Food arrived cold after taking near 50 minutes to arrive.First and last time.

Bang average sadly. 45min wait for food from order (with no warning), and when it arrived both meals were just ok Afraid won't be back.

Apparently a new manager and new head chef resulted in our first impression of having a meal here being dire and we won’t be back. Not only were the portions tiny,, the flavour was at best mediocre and then the chef forgot a key component of two of our meals that was clearly stated on the menu, when asked if we enjoyed the meal we said about the component and he made some excuse ( the manager) that it was because it was a vegan meal, we pointed out that it was stated on the menu? He went to investigate only to tell us that yes we were right, the chef was new so that was the excuse. I said that wasn’t really good enough and he said well I’ve dealt with it. He offered no compensation or alternative and had a bad attitude. As we were still hungry we asked for dessert but when ordering we’re told they had sold out. We were going to order more drinks but instead without a dessert we decided to go elsewhere. Other customers around us were complaining also. All in all a very bad experience which we will not repeat. Had the manager been more caring or offered some sort of goodwill gesture we may have stayed and this review may have had a slightly better rating but he didn’t seem to care about future customers. A bad move!

Very busy place throughout the day / evening, staff very friendly , food good , our dog Ash the pooch loved going in the pub too

We arrived at our reservation time; however, our table was not ready and we had to stand (with toddlers) at a very hot and cramped bar while waiting. Then we were seated, there were no high chairs (as requested) and no space for two high chairs as we had a table with booth seats. Two of us requested the trio roasts; they had no beef, and no stuffing, so we were offered extra meat and pigs in blankets, which was fine. However when the food arrived the Yorkshire puddings were burnt to a crisp, there was 0.5 of a burnt carrot and 0.5 of a burnt parsnip, and the taste was lacking in the meat, I couldn’t tell what was pork and what was turkey it was that dry, overall it was very very disappointing. Another of us ordered the bacon and cheese beef burger, which arrived with no bacon and no cheese, and cremated beef patties. I would not recommend this pub to anybody. The waitresses were trying their best, but they were obviously overworked and underpaid, and didn’t have much time to tend to every patron. Will not be returning.

Sadly, a tepid welcome being told to sit wherever we wanted within the bar area. We sat down and realised that we didn’t have menus. Collected them from the bar. Went to order. 3 beers had run out. We were told with no apology that there wasn’t any steak pie or roasts, very take it or leave it. We ordered two teas which were tepid and when we mentioned this to one of the bar staff, the response was ‘oh’. When we were asked how the meals were we said that they were ok, but only that and we weren’t very impressed. There was no response at all. We said that we wanted to split the bill. This proved very difficult, many sighs, no apologies and eventually I just said I’d pay it all and we’d sort it out later. We received no thanks, no enjoy your evening. Such a shame as we’d had a good meal previously, but the complete lack of concern, customer service and indifference on top of tepid tea, restricted menu and disappointing meals, means we probably won’t return.

Pub was quite busy, with drinkers. Atmosphere was good, got shown to our table. Young girl took our order for drinks, then took our food order. We didn't wait too long for food. Hubby had a mixed grill, I had steak pie. Food was tasty, hot and presented well. Staff were friendly and curtious. We also got 30% of our mains which is a bonus.

Delicious food and beautifully presented. Always first class. Lady serving was so friendly and welcoming ensuring we had the best experience, made our day more enjoyable. Same lady served us New Year’s Eve and again ensured we had and enjoyable experience, lady called Maria

Good food, just a little pricey

I was really very disappointed with the Sunday roast this time, after having had an enjoyable meal there about 6 months ago. All four of us had the beef and although the meat was fine the service was very slow, with no explanation, and when the food was served, about 45 minutes after we arrived, the vegetables were thoroughly overcooked and the Yorkshire puddings tough. We'd planned to have desserts but the long wait for the main course meant we really couldn't afford another possible long wait for that to be served. The beer choice was also disappointingly limited, with only one cask beer available and the only bottled IPA on the menu unavailable. The toilets also need attention, quite tatty and generally grubby in comparison to the restaurant itself. The curling notice on the back of the toilet door about 'raising the bar' was barely hanging on with overused sellotape. I'm afraid we won't be rushing back. Didn't pay attention to what/ whether vegetarian options available but we were asked about any dietary restrictions and I spotted at least one notice in the wall to let staff know if any applied.

This must be one of the worst lunches we’ve had this year. Service was very poor. We waited over an hour for food to appear. There were two starters on the menu, one was off. Two of the beers were not available. The sea bass bore no resemblance to the menu description. Portion size was abysmal. No prawn sauce. When we arrived we were warned that there was only one chef working and there would be a delay but not told how long. This establishment needs to improve dramatically before we would contemplate returning.

We recently held a Christmas meal for a party of 47 at The Green Dragon, and it was an absolutely fantastic experience! From start to finish, everything was handled beautifully. The festive set menu was well-organized, and the food was delicious. Everyone in our group thoroughly enjoyed their meals, which were served promptly and with care. The staff were incredibly hardworking and went above and beyond to ensure our large party was well taken care of, accommodating us with efficiency and a smile. The highlight of the evening was the quiz afterward, which added an extra layer of fun and entertainment to the night. It was well-planned and kept everyone engaged, making it a truly memorable event. A huge thank you to the team at The Green Dragon for their outstanding hospitality. We wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it for large gatherings or festive celebrations. Well done!

Went for a family Boxing Day lunch. The place wasn't packed to capacity but we still had a wait of over 85 minutes before the starters arrived. The main courses were a wait of over 35 minutes despite chasing the waiter, and when the food finally arrived, some of the orders were not what we had ordered. The quality of the food was disappointing and was not value for money, and to make matters worse some of the meals were lukewarm. The staff never came to ask how our food was and didnt seem to care, this was probably due to them being kept busy chasing other tables late or incorrect orders. We were only told when we asked for the bill that the head chef had phoned in sick which has caused the problems. To be fair they didn't charge us for the wine that we had ordered, but that didn't compensate for a ruined festive family occasion. We certainly won't be returning anytime soon.

I love coming here as it is my local and dog friendly, but on this occasion (and it has happened before) service was just incredibly slow especially given how few diners there were in that evening. The food also came out tepid in most cases. If there was a problem with the kitchen we should have been at least warned. Thankfully it was good company and that helped paper over the cracks in our experience.

Excellent family lunch with delicious food - refreshing drinks and lovely friendly staff

Just got back from a Xmas dinner and I have to say it was superb, for both the food as well as the service. I hope they do it again next year and are able to meet the same standards as today, as we would definitely go again for a Xmas dinner.

Called this morning with a party of 20 swansea fans on the way to hull and we were mist impressed with the breakfast and service

No wine glasses, had to have red wine from a prosecco glass - its Christmas!! Food was cold and very late arriving. 3 of us eating but one got served well before the other 2. Plates left on our table after we had finished. Weren't cleared away for 30 minutes. The same sub standard quality and service we have come to expect from this underwhelming pub.

Came in here for a wine and a bit of lunch, loved the atmosphere and the fact wile could bring our little doggo in. Cute corner with dog treats and water bowls :)

Lovely welcome from the staff. Unfortunately we were their over an hour before our preordered meals came out, and there was a big gap between starters and mains. We had booked the festive menu but no Christmas music playing or crackers on the table like we've had previously.

Went for Sunday lunch with friends following a lovely walk. Waited nearly 1 hour for our food,after going to the bar to ask where our lunch was, we where told it was being plated, food arrived Luke warm to cold, not much food, possibly been plated ages ago and someone forgot to serve. Also our friend went to the bar for a drink and was covered in ice, clothing soaked, no apology or offer to dry out. No one asked how our food was, didn't seem interested. Will not be going again.

I was so disappointed with my recent visit. Id booked a table for food with a friend for her birthday after our walk and was ready for a hearty meal when most main meals are £15+ you expect a decent amount of nicely cooked food. We ordered the 'chicken kebabs' and "halloumi kebabs' when they came it was actually a kebab..just one skewer...on my halloumi kebab there was only 3 pieces of halloumi....on the chicken kebabs there was 2 pieces of chicken and 2 pieces of chorizo. The menu mentioned feta but there was no sign of it...the chips were really nice but I'm amazed at the cost and quality of the food.

Great village pub which allows muddy paws and boots

We were visiting the area due to a vet appointment and needed somewhere to bide our time. The Green Dragon was recommended to us and we found it easily a short drive from Brough. The breakfast is amazing but what struck us was the welcome! So friendly and happy to chat with us, took my mind off my dogs operation for a while! We returned later for a coffee and pudding and sat by the fire surrounded by Christmas decorations. We highly recommend this pub, its location in a beautiful village with its church and moat and very much a Jane Austin feel to the village. But mostly the warmest welcome, fabulous food and its historic connection to the infamous highwayman Dick Turpin!!

Arrived at the green dragon to hopefully enjoy a very nice Sunday lunch. Looking at the menu and not sure which meat to order, I went for the trio of roasts. Food arrived approx 25 minutes later, full plate of Beef, Pork and Turkey together with a very good selection of vegetables and roast potatoes. Disappointingly no stuffing or horseradish sauce, when I queried this I was told they had run out of stuffing 😤. Not quite sure who is responsible but surely you shouldn't run out of a vital item at 1.30pm. Nevertheless the meal was fabulous and definitely value for money at 17.99. Would highly recommend the Sunday lunch but please remember to ask if they still have the stuffing available to avoid disappointment.

Pub was freezing half the people in the pub had a coat on !! 1/5 of menu not available sold out so had too make do with a burger with disappointing fries you can get from a fast food outlet

We booked to stay the night on Friday 15th November. The room was very comfortable and good value. We also ate and the food was of very good quality and also very good value. I wholeheartedly recommend and we will definitely stay again.

The last 2 visits regarding food have only got 2 to 3 green blobs from me but the meal i had on Sunday was absolutely delicious. I don't like veg at all ( sorry) mother who will be turning in her grave but that wasn't a problem. Extra spuds with a rather large extra Yorkshire pudding went onto my lovely Pork Sunday Dinner. All the staff were extremely nice, so my faith in the Green Dragon has been restored. Well done.

Evening meal with the family, food really nice & good service 🥂

Lovely, poular pub with good food and very nice atmosphere. This is not cheap microwaved run of the mill food. It's restaurant quality at a fair price. Massive range of beers and spirits to suit all. Highly recommended.

We booked a room for one night to attend a funeral. We were able to book in earlier than stated so we could change and get changed. This was immensely helpful after our long journey. On the evening we booked a table for 3. A very reasonable wait for food to arrive.The food was absolutely delicious. It Did not taste processed or preheated but looked and tasted like real homemade well prepared home cooked food. All the staff were friendly helpful and made us feel very welcome. The following morning we had a full cooked breakfast. It was amazing! Not you bog standard greasy spoon type cafe food. Lovely presentation. Amazing bacon, real meaty slices. Everything was perfect. Again we were made to feel welcome and waited on very well. An added bonus was the pub was fully dog friendly as we had our dog with us. The room was clean, comfortable and very quite. We thoroughly enjoyed every minute of our stay.

Quite empty, food was good, but a bit slow considering so few in pub.

Came in for breakfast this morning and the poached eggs were the best I’ve ever had. Credit to the chef and also Leanne for looking after me!

Excellent service and superb sunday lunch

Love coming to this pub after doing the Welton walk. Cosy inside for when it’s cold and plenty of seating outside for when it’s nice. Their food is lovely and the prices aren’t too bad for a village pub either!

Met by a very friendly and welcoming couple of ladies and made to feel very welcome. Excellent full English Breakfast and an excellent price.

Came for Sunday lunch. Very easy to book a table on-line. Food was superb. Excellent atmosphere, no canned music. Service was excellent. Will definitely come again if in the area.

6 of us visited on Monday. Appallingly food & very expensive. We did complain but staff weren’t interested whilst friendly poorly trained & managed. Such a shame as a lovely pub & location

As a reply to the question to please explain my 1 star:-. I have been twice in the last month. Once for a meal- booked for 7 people- Sun early evening. The table was only set for 6. A few foods were not available- specifically roast potatoes were not available for the Sunday roast! 2nd drinks ordered which took a long time to come- by the time they came my drink was empty- it was 3/4's full when we ordered. After my one drink order was taken My husband could see my drink being made. It was ready waiting at the bar to be collected for 10 mins or more. He had to ask for it to be brought to the table - despite the host being stood at the lecton (pretty much next to the drink) doing nothing. A few wanted deserts but no one came so they decided not to bother. We could have asked but no one was about to ask. We would have bought another round of drinks but as service was so slow we didn't bother. The next time we came for drinks for 2, sat outside Sun afternoon. We used the QSR to order drinks (sign suggested it was quick and promoted this use) but we waited 15 mins and had to collect from the bar - and the ticket was still waiting to be done. I would suggest that you staff appropriately, or have cover for unexpected absence. I would also suggest when staff are leaving a table have a glance about rather than just walk back with a 'blinkered' view, this would enable a customer to ask for something. The pub is lovely, has a great atmosphere but service is very poor. It is not the staff's fault, better training seems needed and adequate staffing. I don't post negative reviews without thought and consideration. To me, it seems very profit led at the expense of the customer.

Lunch menu poor 3 for lunch all had complaints regarding presentation and standard of food served. Raised concern with waitress who tried to down play concerns. Eventually took some back to chef to show poor standard. She never returned! Tables were sticky ? Not clean. Generally the bar area looked a bit scruffy and floors dirty and untidy. Would definitely not recommend or return. The response to this review is a joke. If you can't work out how to improve then you are doomed if the poor standard continues.

Really disappointing food, service and atmosphere! We used to go to this pub all the time as a family when we were younger and decided we would try it again. What a big mistake! We were sat at our table which wasn’t even set and no menus provided….we waited, and waited….still nobody appeared. I got up to find menus and gave to my family…still nobody came over. There was a very grumpy looking waitress folding napkins who could quite clearly see us but continued to ignore us. So I went to ask her about table service and someone else came over. We felt like we were a nuisance. Finally order was taken but 30 mins after we sat down our drinks arrived…then when our food arrived most of it was cold like it had been sat waiting to be run out. We ordered a steak medium rare but it was well done. We didn’t dare ask to change it as it would take too long and no doubt staff annoyed if we asked. The awful waitress who had ignored us slammed all our plates down and didn’t even check if we needed anything or if we were ok! We had to ask for sauces which she also slammed down on the table. Seriously do NOT go here! The only decent staff member was the bloke on shift who was very apologetic! Issues for me here is that they were understaffed and poorly managed! Having been a restaurant manager myself I could see that the staff on shift were not trained and hence it was like a sinking ship! It’s such a shame as it used to be a great pub! We won’t be going back here ever again! The only decent they did was give us a discount on our meals due to our dissatisfaction!

A very disappointing dining experience. Service appalling and the food quality average at best. If you have any level of cooking experience you could make a better job at home. Avoid the Green Dragon! Save your money for somewhere better.

An enjoyable evening with good food and pleasant staff.

Booked a table for 4 and one 2 year old. Table was not ready, no menus given. Given adult cutlery for 2 year old. Waited 1 hour 20 minutes for food. Noticed people who came in after us being served before us. Food ok but expensive for what it was.

Extremely charming, country pub with a real warm and friendly atmosphere. Some interesting heritage! Service was quick from the staff and our food was perfect, best Sunday lunch we have had for a long time, would highly recommend to anyone. Cracking pint of cask ale too!

Excellent in every respect - a perfect pub restaurant in a traditional historic inn set in the heart of a beautiful village!

Not as good as it used to be. Absolutely filthy, everything was sticky. Had to sit looking at soiled curtains next to my face whilst I ate, while my partner had to look down the top of a radiator which was level with the table top next to the plates, thick in hair and dust (see all of my photos). Had reserved a table but the hostess just pointed me in the general direction and I had to guess which table was ours. Had to ask for cutlery after food had came which still had food on from previous customer. Table wasn’t wiped down prior to us being seated. We’ve been visiting this pub for years and it’s gone downhill. Such a prominent location, it’s crying out for some TLC. Could be a great place again, just needs a deep clean and more staff.

Booked a table to then wait over an hour for food, the table of six ordered food that came with mixed quality and portion sizes, not enough cutlery, staff bordering on rude and aggressive towards customers, plates not cleared away, desserts of sub standard quality for the price charged. Overall poor, would not recommend to anyone, and certainly will not be placing guests in the B and B part again.

I thought the Wine at £9.50 a glass was outrageous it wasn't any better in taste than a £7.30 bottle of Malbec from most Supermarkets ,also the bar and table were sticky and needed a wash with hot water

Not a great re visit, only came for a chilled easy meal on a friday night, after a long day working, no big expectations. The pub is in a great location and looks great Upon arrival they were unable to find my booking. We ordered food at 7.10pm and a starter did come ok although the portions are nothing to take your breath away, then we waited and waited to a point at 8:30 i had to recheck the main was still due. After a “its just being plated” a further 10 minutes and a cold £16 microwave lasagne turned up. My suspicious side would say they forgot the order. My partner ate whilst a very apologetic lady resolved the matter with another, but by 9pm for a Lasagne and a quiet quick bite to eat the evening is done. They did give us a free drink and refund the Lasagne which whilst appreciated, just offset my 30% off voucher i forgot to use, but you can eat anywhere locally and cold food aside, 90 mins for a £16 lasagna, burnt oven tasting garlic roll and Rocket doesn't really tempt me back on any front. Plenty of others seemed happy so maybe a one off, my partner’s food was ok, other than the wait, but nothing to write home about sadly.. sorry

We had booked a room overnight and arrived in the evening. The staff were all very helpful and sorted us a table out for a meal which was really good. We enjoyed taking part in the weekly quiz and happily came last!! Accommodation was comfortable and a lovely breakfast served in the morning. Hope to visit again and thanks to all the staff who were all friendly throughout our visit.

Seat in corner ok. Too many dogs in the way. Missing items from menu and looked at like an alien when I requested common bar snacks e.g. peanuts and crisps! Can’t recommend steak and ale pie as they had none!

Stayed here for the first time and it will definitely be the last!! Entered the room to find hair around the bathroom (had to clean it myself before it could be used) No toilet roll Toilet dirty Sink blocked pulled the plug out and it was full of soap scum 🤮 Bottom shower head didn't work at all Bed very uncomfortable Wasn't a clean room at all Left my "clean room on the door handle" before we went out come back to find dirty marks on the duvet cover No milk or tea bags topped up or clean towels Breakfast wasn't great at all toast wasn't even toasted beans cold bacon black egg white was totally over done wouldn't recommend to anyone sadly

Went here to have an afternoon meal. Well we certainly will not be returning for another meal we had a disappointing experience from start to finish. Presentation of the food was poor and we commented about the quality and presentation we were told this was done to Marsdens speck. I never took photos of the starters but I wished I had especially the prawn cocktail which came in a blue pot dish consisting of some baby gem lettuce a few prawns a small piece of lemon and faintly toasted white bread. We ordered pan fried chicken for our main Well yet again more disappointment 3 small pieces of chicken, potatoes that I think had been reheated ( not fresh) see photos read description and find the veg listed different on the plate (not informed when ordering) also spot the chorizo as for the sauce the taste lingered well into the evening not something I wanted to keep tasting. A very disappointing afternoon at my sons expense. I do feel sorry for the staff who have to put up with customer complaints they handled our views very gracefully but could only keep repeating this is the way Marsden breweries want things doing. They did actually take the cost of the prawn cocktail on the final bill. When decided our next afternoon treat I will be checking things twice especially the brewery so as not to repeat the same experience.

I have just left the green dragon My room was number 6 Broken shower,rust running down wall in bathroom, badly cracked sink.no hot water yesterday ceilings cracked side of door broken and left half repaired . I could go on and on I told manager she understood and is aware I was given full refund I felt sorry for her. DONT GO

Not been here for a good while due to previous bad experience! Decided to give it another try as the location & the pub are lovely! Sorry today that’s as far as it goes, the food was so disappointing and not worth the money! Prawn cocktail starter was very small for nearly £8 and served with the most dry bread!! The Cheese Pie which was asked for with a salad instead of potatoes & veg was a joke for nearly £17.00 with a pile of lettuce and again very disappointing. Needless to say this is my view on the food and I feel it’s such a shame

Shocking. Went for lunch in the sun on Friday. Ordered 2 steak sandwiches @£11.50 each and 1 was inedible as just a mass of gristle. Place was empty and judging by the poor choice of lunch options and the standard of the food it will stay like this.

Booked online and also got 30% discount voucher. Our very nice waitress Megan served us very well. Food was very good and we both enjoyed it.

On arrival we were shown to our table we were not given any menus or asked if we wanted a drink 10 minutes went by and I asked if we ordered at the bar and was told someone would be over in a minute 15 minutes later someone came over to take our order and I said a menu would be nice to see what we wanted I don’t expect to be waiting 50 minutes before ordering and definitely don’t expect to be served my meal 75 mins after booking table service

Went here recently with family, some really nice food served in a very cozy little pub setting. Starters came promptly and were just the right size and tasted very nice with the only issue coming from the fact that a lot of them were served in small bowls, making it hard to cut pieces if it was needed (like with the Arancini as shown). Mains were also very good, family really loved the Lasagna on offer, the Sausages and mash was also pretty good though I could have done with a tiny bit more mash and overall a tiny bit more seasoning across the whole dish. Overall a nice family meal out with only a few seasoning issues in the way of a full 5 stars.

Friendly, warm welcome as always. Jon and the team made us feel like nothing was too much trouble. Food was really nice and great atmosphere. Be back soon!

Main course not so good . Dessert was fab . But great friendly service from both the Manager and Maria made it a enjoyable afternoon.
