Green Dragon in East Riding of Yorkshire

A wonderful two course meal at lunch today. Great service and great food. Two courses for £15.50 is great value. The pub is welcoming and great to see so many walkers and dogs. Thank you to all who work there. Returned on Friday 11th April. We stopped off on our walk from Elloughton. Great sandwiches and we loved the triple cooked chips.

My partner and I stayed for 2 nights, our room was lovely and cosy. We loved having the pub on the doorstep. The staff were really friendly. Our breakfasts were so good and fresh! Thankyou 😊

We booked a table here for 5 adults and one child for Sunday April 6th when we arrived we were told that they wasn't serving Sunday dinners because they had been busy and also we got told we would have to wait for 45mins before we could order because the staff kitchen staff I presume was having a 45min break, there wasn't really much on the menu what we wanted as we thought we were going to get a Sunday lunch it's the first time we have been here and probably the last 😔 the staff who served the meal were very nice but we were really disappointed with our visit

Lovely friendly pub and was served by Leanne and Maria. Very well mannered and great sense of humour. Food was served within 20 mins of ordering, piping hot and delicious!! Great prices as we had the two courses for £16.95 each which was great value. Could have sat all day in this lovely welcoming pub! Thank you x

Visited on a busy Friday night with a friend. We ordered roughly at the same time but separately. My friends food arrived after an hour- not ideal but they were very busy! My food however still hadn’t arrived after 2 hours, and I was alone as other people were complaining saying the same at the bar! Overheard the bar staff saying the manager had gone into the kitchen to start cooking! We ended up leaving at 9.15 with a full refund as I was tired, hungry and fed up of waiting by this point!

Food was excellent thanks to new chefs

Simple - it took 45 mins to get our starter, another 45 mins to get our main course after having to chase things up with staff, ordered sweet and coffee, coffee took 15 mins to come and after 20 mins further wait we cancelled our order for the puddings. Importantly - there was no communication from staff about the delays, when we raised concerns there was no real effort to build back our confidence in the establishment and then to repeat the issues after concerns had been raised is inexcusable. No real customer service ethic was apparent. We'd visited for my husbands 62 birthday, with the whole family, therefore the bill was well over £200. We also used to visit regularly but will give the place a rest now. This pub has a massive amount of competition in this locality (west Hull villages). If it continues providing the service standards outlined here it'll be lucky to remain profitable.

Had a Sunday turkey lunch. Everything was absolutely fantastic. The food was hot and well presented. Will definitely be back.

We visited as a party of four adults on a Friday evening at 18:45. This was our first visit. The waitress was lovely but had to explain that many of the dishes weren't available. It was obvious she felt embarrassed about this, which was understandable as quiet a lot was missing. We all chose to eat from the '£31 for three courses' menu, which although good value was very limited due to the unavailable dishes. The sticky chicken starter was superb and we would have happily had a larger portion as a main course. As it was, three of us opted for the sea bass which wasn't great. Our remaining diner opted for steak, which looked good. The sea bass had a flabby, soft skin which should be beautifully crisp. The whole dish was covered in a non descript white sauce which spoilt the flavour of everything. Dessert was pleasant; 3 cherry and almond crumbles and a salted caramel sundae. We couldn't identify cherry or almond in the crumble but there was a large quantity of apple. It was pleasant but not what we expected. All in all we were left underwhelmed. We liked the place and would return for drinks but definitely not food

Not good. Busy pub not coping with the demand. Went on a Sunday evening and half the menu had run out. The chicken schnitzel, one of the few things that was available, came out without any side salad, although we did get some when we asked. The burger was quite nice to be fair, but I wanted a steak. I don’t know if it’s a supply issue or a management issue, but anyway, this meal was super disappointing. It costs a lot to go out to eat these days and I have buyers remorse.

Unfortunately 1 star is the least I can give. Gastropub menu and prices but Weatherspoons food!!! Staff ambivalent and blamed it all on Marstons quality and pricing. Absolute disgrace to the hospitality industry.....give it a wide berth!!

The service was good and the staff were attentive, helpful and friendly however some of the food that came out particularly the mash and veg with the pies was only lukewarm and the amount of gravy that was supplied was very small. We asked for more gravy and we were given another very small bowl. So we were rather underwhelmed particularly given the costs of each dish

Visited 3 months ago and the pub was in disarray with no heat in the rooms and the kitchen was closed due to no chefs. Pleased to advise the pub was back to normal with good food served quickly in a friendly manner and the pub looked clean again.

No Sunday Beef or Pork roasts available at 2pm on a Sunday. 40min wait for food. Starters forgotten and didn't arrive. Very poor.

Food was amazing, my steak was cooked to perfection, I think they may be a new chef, food tasted a lot better then recent visits

The place was lovely and staff were incredible but my partner paid £30 for a steak, some chips and some sauce on the side. I had a burger and some chips for £17.50 again nice but just so expensive for what it was. That’s the only issue I had with the place

We arrived at 7.15pm and noticed that the restaurant and bar area were not as busy as usual. After ordering our food and drink we expected to receive the meal within a reasonable time. Our meals (we both had chicken and chorizo flatbreads (the menu called these "Signature Flatbreads") finally arrived after one hour of waiting. I am not sure why it took so long as there was not a lot of activity in and out of the kitchen area. When we started to eat the meal we noticed that the chicken was not cooked correctly, and on some pieces of the chicken it was raw. We called the waitress over and told her that the chicken was not cooked. She just looked at us and the meal with a blank expression. We explained again that we couldnt eat it as the chicken was uncooked. The meals were taken away. We expected the waitress to come back and explain what was happening and an apology. After 10 or 15 minutes wait we called over another waiter and asked him to find out what was happening with our meal. He went to the kitchen to check and returned to tell us that a replacement was being prepared. We asked how long it will be as we didn't want to wait another hour. He informed us that it was on the grill cooking. After a further 20-25 minutes the meal arrived. After over 90 minutes since arriving we finally got our meal. At least the chicken was cooked this time (although the order was not quite right... we both asked for fries but only one meal had them... this was corrected). The waiter asked us if we wanted another drink on the house and apologised for the meal. We have visited the restaurant many times before for a meal and the food has always been good. However this time the food was appalling as was the service. We wont be coming back and would prefer to travel a bit further for a decent meal and service.

We have been coming to the Green Dragon on a regular basis for quite a while (although this was the first visit this year……. However it will be our last! The pub was not as busy as usual , yet we had to wait almost an hour for our food to arrive. When it arrived (we both had ordered chicken and chorizo skewers on a flat bread) the chicken was not cooked (one piece was raw at the sides). We told the waitress who just looked at us and the meal with a blank expression. We explained that we couldn’t eat it so she took the dishes away. We didn’t see her again. After ten minutes we asked what was happening. A further twenty minutes later we got our meals. The chicken was cooked okay this time. One of the staff did apologise and offered us a free drink. I doubt we will ret!

This was our second visit for food as we have recently moved into the area. Our first visit was for Sunday lunch and this time a midweek lunch. Both times we have thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience from the warm friendly welcome through to the excellent food. Everything is first rate and we will definitely be going again.

Visited after work for drinks and got peckish so ordered the new garlic mushroom starter. There’s the option to have it with or without chorizo, I had it without, and even with gluten free bread which is great as I’m a coeliac! The mushrooms were delicious in a creamy, cheesy sauce. Definitely hit the spot! Was served by Beth who was very attentive and polite.

I stayed here for a week for work and I found the full experience really good , clean rooms , friendly staff and there was a good selection on the menu to choose from . I Would recommend the Green Dragon to friends and family visiting the area

I recently visited green dragon for a meal with my family, a few hours later it became very apparent that the food I had, had in fact given me food poisoning.

The welcome was lovely and we were seated to the table we booked promptly. The pub was very busy but this didn't affect the service. The food was well presented and tasty we had the three meat Sunday roast which was delicious. Thank you

Very busy place throughout the day / evening, staff very friendly , food good , our dog Ash the pooch loved going in the pub too

Apparently a new manager and new head chef resulted in our first impression of having a meal here being dire and we won’t be back. Not only were the portions tiny,, the flavour was at best mediocre and then the chef forgot a key component of two of our meals that was clearly stated on the menu, when asked if we enjoyed the meal we said about the component and he made some excuse ( the manager) that it was because it was a vegan meal, we pointed out that it was stated on the menu? He went to investigate only to tell us that yes we were right, the chef was new so that was the excuse. I said that wasn’t really good enough and he said well I’ve dealt with it. He offered no compensation or alternative and had a bad attitude. As we were still hungry we asked for dessert but when ordering we’re told they had sold out. We were going to order more drinks but instead without a dessert we decided to go elsewhere. Other customers around us were complaining also. All in all a very bad experience which we will not repeat. Had the manager been more caring or offered some sort of goodwill gesture we may have stayed and this review may have had a slightly better rating but he didn’t seem to care about future customers. A bad move!

We arrived at our reservation time; however, our table was not ready and we had to stand (with toddlers) at a very hot and cramped bar while waiting. Then we were seated, there were no high chairs (as requested) and no space for two high chairs as we had a table with booth seats. Two of us requested the trio roasts; they had no beef, and no stuffing, so we were offered extra meat and pigs in blankets, which was fine. However when the food arrived the Yorkshire puddings were burnt to a crisp, there was 0.5 of a burnt carrot and 0.5 of a burnt parsnip, and the taste was lacking in the meat, I couldn’t tell what was pork and what was turkey it was that dry, overall it was very very disappointing. Another of us ordered the bacon and cheese beef burger, which arrived with no bacon and no cheese, and cremated beef patties. I would not recommend this pub to anybody. The waitresses were trying their best, but they were obviously overworked and underpaid, and didn’t have much time to tend to every patron. Will not be returning.

Sadly, a tepid welcome being told to sit wherever we wanted within the bar area. We sat down and realised that we didn’t have menus. Collected them from the bar. Went to order. 3 beers had run out. We were told with no apology that there wasn’t any steak pie or roasts, very take it or leave it. We ordered two teas which were tepid and when we mentioned this to one of the bar staff, the response was ‘oh’. When we were asked how the meals were we said that they were ok, but only that and we weren’t very impressed. There was no response at all. We said that we wanted to split the bill. This proved very difficult, many sighs, no apologies and eventually I just said I’d pay it all and we’d sort it out later. We received no thanks, no enjoy your evening. Such a shame as we’d had a good meal previously, but the complete lack of concern, customer service and indifference on top of tepid tea, restricted menu and disappointing meals, means we probably won’t return.

Pub was quite busy, with drinkers. Atmosphere was good, got shown to our table. Young girl took our order for drinks, then took our food order. We didn't wait too long for food. Hubby had a mixed grill, I had steak pie. Food was tasty, hot and presented well. Staff were friendly and curtious. We also got 30% of our mains which is a bonus.

Delicious food and beautifully presented. Always first class. Lady serving was so friendly and welcoming ensuring we had the best experience, made our day more enjoyable. Same lady served us New Year’s Eve and again ensured we had and enjoyable experience, lady called Maria

Good food, just a little pricey

I was really very disappointed with the Sunday roast this time, after having had an enjoyable meal there about 6 months ago. All four of us had the beef and although the meat was fine the service was very slow, with no explanation, and when the food was served, about 45 minutes after we arrived, the vegetables were thoroughly overcooked and the Yorkshire puddings tough. We'd planned to have desserts but the long wait for the main course meant we really couldn't afford another possible long wait for that to be served. The beer choice was also disappointingly limited, with only one cask beer available and the only bottled IPA on the menu unavailable. The toilets also need attention, quite tatty and generally grubby in comparison to the restaurant itself. The curling notice on the back of the toilet door about 'raising the bar' was barely hanging on with overused sellotape. I'm afraid we won't be rushing back. Didn't pay attention to what/ whether vegetarian options available but we were asked about any dietary restrictions and I spotted at least one notice in the wall to let staff know if any applied.

This must be one of the worst lunches we’ve had this year. Service was very poor. We waited over an hour for food to appear. There were two starters on the menu, one was off. Two of the beers were not available. The sea bass bore no resemblance to the menu description. Portion size was abysmal. No prawn sauce. When we arrived we were warned that there was only one chef working and there would be a delay but not told how long. This establishment needs to improve dramatically before we would contemplate returning.

We recently held a Christmas meal for a party of 47 at The Green Dragon, and it was an absolutely fantastic experience! From start to finish, everything was handled beautifully. The festive set menu was well-organized, and the food was delicious. Everyone in our group thoroughly enjoyed their meals, which were served promptly and with care. The staff were incredibly hardworking and went above and beyond to ensure our large party was well taken care of, accommodating us with efficiency and a smile. The highlight of the evening was the quiz afterward, which added an extra layer of fun and entertainment to the night. It was well-planned and kept everyone engaged, making it a truly memorable event. A huge thank you to the team at The Green Dragon for their outstanding hospitality. We wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it for large gatherings or festive celebrations. Well done!

Went for a family Boxing Day lunch. The place wasn't packed to capacity but we still had a wait of over 85 minutes before the starters arrived. The main courses were a wait of over 35 minutes despite chasing the waiter, and when the food finally arrived, some of the orders were not what we had ordered. The quality of the food was disappointing and was not value for money, and to make matters worse some of the meals were lukewarm. The staff never came to ask how our food was and didnt seem to care, this was probably due to them being kept busy chasing other tables late or incorrect orders. We were only told when we asked for the bill that the head chef had phoned in sick which has caused the problems. To be fair they didn't charge us for the wine that we had ordered, but that didn't compensate for a ruined festive family occasion. We certainly won't be returning anytime soon.

I love coming here as it is my local and dog friendly, but on this occasion (and it has happened before) service was just incredibly slow especially given how few diners there were in that evening. The food also came out tepid in most cases. If there was a problem with the kitchen we should have been at least warned. Thankfully it was good company and that helped paper over the cracks in our experience.

Excellent family lunch with delicious food - refreshing drinks and lovely friendly staff

Just got back from a Xmas dinner and I have to say it was superb, for both the food as well as the service. I hope they do it again next year and are able to meet the same standards as today, as we would definitely go again for a Xmas dinner.

Called this morning with a party of 20 swansea fans on the way to hull and we were mist impressed with the breakfast and service

No wine glasses, had to have red wine from a prosecco glass - its Christmas!! Food was cold and very late arriving. 3 of us eating but one got served well before the other 2. Plates left on our table after we had finished. Weren't cleared away for 30 minutes. The same sub standard quality and service we have come to expect from this underwhelming pub.

Came in here for a wine and a bit of lunch, loved the atmosphere and the fact wile could bring our little doggo in. Cute corner with dog treats and water bowls :)

Lovely welcome from the staff. Unfortunately we were their over an hour before our preordered meals came out, and there was a big gap between starters and mains. We had booked the festive menu but no Christmas music playing or crackers on the table like we've had previously.

Went for Sunday lunch with friends following a lovely walk. Waited nearly 1 hour for our food,after going to the bar to ask where our lunch was, we where told it was being plated, food arrived Luke warm to cold, not much food, possibly been plated ages ago and someone forgot to serve. Also our friend went to the bar for a drink and was covered in ice, clothing soaked, no apology or offer to dry out. No one asked how our food was, didn't seem interested. Will not be going again.

I was so disappointed with my recent visit. Id booked a table for food with a friend for her birthday after our walk and was ready for a hearty meal when most main meals are £15+ you expect a decent amount of nicely cooked food. We ordered the 'chicken kebabs' and "halloumi kebabs' when they came it was actually a kebab..just one skewer...on my halloumi kebab there was only 3 pieces of halloumi....on the chicken kebabs there was 2 pieces of chicken and 2 pieces of chorizo. The menu mentioned feta but there was no sign of it...the chips were really nice but I'm amazed at the cost and quality of the food.

Great village pub which allows muddy paws and boots

We were visiting the area due to a vet appointment and needed somewhere to bide our time. The Green Dragon was recommended to us and we found it easily a short drive from Brough. The breakfast is amazing but what struck us was the welcome! So friendly and happy to chat with us, took my mind off my dogs operation for a while! We returned later for a coffee and pudding and sat by the fire surrounded by Christmas decorations. We highly recommend this pub, its location in a beautiful village with its church and moat and very much a Jane Austin feel to the village. But mostly the warmest welcome, fabulous food and its historic connection to the infamous highwayman Dick Turpin!!

Arrived at the green dragon to hopefully enjoy a very nice Sunday lunch. Looking at the menu and not sure which meat to order, I went for the trio of roasts. Food arrived approx 25 minutes later, full plate of Beef, Pork and Turkey together with a very good selection of vegetables and roast potatoes. Disappointingly no stuffing or horseradish sauce, when I queried this I was told they had run out of stuffing 😤. Not quite sure who is responsible but surely you shouldn't run out of a vital item at 1.30pm. Nevertheless the meal was fabulous and definitely value for money at 17.99. Would highly recommend the Sunday lunch but please remember to ask if they still have the stuffing available to avoid disappointment.

Pub was freezing half the people in the pub had a coat on !! 1/5 of menu not available sold out so had too make do with a burger with disappointing fries you can get from a fast food outlet

We booked to stay the night on Friday 15th November. The room was very comfortable and good value. We also ate and the food was of very good quality and also very good value. I wholeheartedly recommend and we will definitely stay again.

The last 2 visits regarding food have only got 2 to 3 green blobs from me but the meal i had on Sunday was absolutely delicious. I don't like veg at all ( sorry) mother who will be turning in her grave but that wasn't a problem. Extra spuds with a rather large extra Yorkshire pudding went onto my lovely Pork Sunday Dinner. All the staff were extremely nice, so my faith in the Green Dragon has been restored. Well done.

Lovely, poular pub with good food and very nice atmosphere. This is not cheap microwaved run of the mill food. It's restaurant quality at a fair price. Massive range of beers and spirits to suit all. Highly recommended.

We booked a room for one night to attend a funeral. We were able to book in earlier than stated so we could change and get changed. This was immensely helpful after our long journey. On the evening we booked a table for 3. A very reasonable wait for food to arrive.The food was absolutely delicious. It Did not taste processed or preheated but looked and tasted like real homemade well prepared home cooked food. All the staff were friendly helpful and made us feel very welcome. The following morning we had a full cooked breakfast. It was amazing! Not you bog standard greasy spoon type cafe food. Lovely presentation. Amazing bacon, real meaty slices. Everything was perfect. Again we were made to feel welcome and waited on very well. An added bonus was the pub was fully dog friendly as we had our dog with us. The room was clean, comfortable and very quite. We thoroughly enjoyed every minute of our stay.

Love coming to this pub after doing the Welton walk. Cosy inside for when it’s cold and plenty of seating outside for when it’s nice. Their food is lovely and the prices aren’t too bad for a village pub either!

Met by a very friendly and welcoming couple of ladies and made to feel very welcome. Excellent full English Breakfast and an excellent price.

Came for Sunday lunch. Very easy to book a table on-line. Food was superb. Excellent atmosphere, no canned music. Service was excellent. Will definitely come again if in the area.

As a reply to the question to please explain my 1 star:-. I have been twice in the last month. Once for a meal- booked for 7 people- Sun early evening. The table was only set for 6. A few foods were not available- specifically roast potatoes were not available for the Sunday roast! 2nd drinks ordered which took a long time to come- by the time they came my drink was empty- it was 3/4's full when we ordered. After my one drink order was taken My husband could see my drink being made. It was ready waiting at the bar to be collected for 10 mins or more. He had to ask for it to be brought to the table - despite the host being stood at the lecton (pretty much next to the drink) doing nothing. A few wanted deserts but no one came so they decided not to bother. We could have asked but no one was about to ask. We would have bought another round of drinks but as service was so slow we didn't bother. The next time we came for drinks for 2, sat outside Sun afternoon. We used the QSR to order drinks (sign suggested it was quick and promoted this use) but we waited 15 mins and had to collect from the bar - and the ticket was still waiting to be done. I would suggest that you staff appropriately, or have cover for unexpected absence. I would also suggest when staff are leaving a table have a glance about rather than just walk back with a 'blinkered' view, this would enable a customer to ask for something. The pub is lovely, has a great atmosphere but service is very poor. It is not the staff's fault, better training seems needed and adequate staffing. I don't post negative reviews without thought and consideration. To me, it seems very profit led at the expense of the customer.

Really disappointing food, service and atmosphere! We used to go to this pub all the time as a family when we were younger and decided we would try it again. What a big mistake! We were sat at our table which wasn’t even set and no menus provided….we waited, and waited….still nobody appeared. I got up to find menus and gave to my family…still nobody came over. There was a very grumpy looking waitress folding napkins who could quite clearly see us but continued to ignore us. So I went to ask her about table service and someone else came over. We felt like we were a nuisance. Finally order was taken but 30 mins after we sat down our drinks arrived…then when our food arrived most of it was cold like it had been sat waiting to be run out. We ordered a steak medium rare but it was well done. We didn’t dare ask to change it as it would take too long and no doubt staff annoyed if we asked. The awful waitress who had ignored us slammed all our plates down and didn’t even check if we needed anything or if we were ok! We had to ask for sauces which she also slammed down on the table. Seriously do NOT go here! The only decent staff member was the bloke on shift who was very apologetic! Issues for me here is that they were understaffed and poorly managed! Having been a restaurant manager myself I could see that the staff on shift were not trained and hence it was like a sinking ship! It’s such a shame as it used to be a great pub! We won’t be going back here ever again! The only decent they did was give us a discount on our meals due to our dissatisfaction!

Lunch menu poor 3 for lunch all had complaints regarding presentation and standard of food served. Raised concern with waitress who tried to down play concerns. Eventually took some back to chef to show poor standard. She never returned! Tables were sticky ? Not clean. Generally the bar area looked a bit scruffy and floors dirty and untidy. Would definitely not recommend or return. The response to this review is a joke. If you can't work out how to improve then you are doomed if the poor standard continues.
