The Half Moon Inn in East Riding of Yorkshire

We come here as a family quite a lot as it is local to us. Whilst the food is always consistently nice, it’s never outstanding. It’s pub grub done well. The last two times we have been, we have taken our dog too, which is great for us as they have the Tap Room which accepts dogs. On both occasions the room was cold, so much so, I had to leave my coat on. Also on both occasions the music being played into the room, as what I imagine is supposed to be quiet “background music” has been too loud, and in my opinion, inappropriate for a relaxing Sunday lunch. A mix of loudly played Radiohead, The Darkness, U2 and Blur is maybe a bit “heavy” to have as background music. For those wondering, I do actually like those bands, but it didn’t create a very “chilled”, “relaxing” or “background music” atmosphere.

Lovely food, polite staff, nice atmosphere and nice pub in general. Would definitely come back again if we are in the area.

Been to half moon a fair few times now, but after last time, I would never go back, I ordered a pie for £16, which consisted of 6-7 oven chips and a small amount of veg, and a pie that just wasn’t up to standard, when I asked for a price reduction, not a refund in anyway, the manager was very unhelpful and refused to be cooperative in anyway, and indirectly told me that I must by lying because he’d tried the “batch” made pie a couple of days previous, meaning my opinion wasn’t relevant, the pie tasted of fish and the pastry was undercooked, i was extremely receptacle and polite, just a shame the manager couldn’t copy that, very disappointing for such a lovely pub

Atmosphere and staff are lovely but food is not good value for money. Actually left upset that I'd paid nearly 100£ for the food here and had to go home and make dinner. The roast dinner is so bland, the gravy has a burnt flavour, aneamic roast potatoes. Thai green curry is a child size portion for £14. Overall, I would not go again for food but nice place for drinks.

The food was plentiful, tasty and hot.

Lovely meal steak and ale pie was delicious as were all the meals we had. Very friendly staff. Good value for money. Nice garden to sit out in. All in all great. Thanks Will definitely return

2 of us booked as I heard it was nice and was really looking forward to trying here. We had 3 courses each and I was starving, my first 2 courses were fine, good pub grub. I ordered the sweet off the specials and unfortunately it was off, rancidly off. When they put it in front of me I could smell a horrible smell, I honestly didn’t think it would be the sweet so decided to try it, I had to spit it out. I could only describe the taste and smell as out of date cottage cheese and that is being polite. I did make the owner/manager aware and he took it away. He came back to say he had tasted it and it was fine, I explained it really wasn’t and even the smell was stomach wrenching but he continued to dispute this. His attitude wasn’t nice if I am honest. I was polite and discreet. Although he did not charge for the sweet I would suggest that maybe how he deals with customers and how he makes them feel should be addressed. I never, ever complain but when something is as off as this was I really do not expect the manager/owner to come out seem argumentative and then say there was nothing wrong with this. I just hope the sweet was taken straight off the menu as would have made someone ill. Such a shame as I left feeling very disappointed and I accept mistakes are made but due to the attitude I won’t be back nor recommend here due to how it was dealt with.

Slow service, mediocre food, short measures on the beer

Even though our food choice was pre-booked, it still took 45 minutes for it to arrive at the table. The pub was not all that busy.

Went for the singer tonight and it was cancelled. Such a shame

Stopped off to get a drink whilst out on a walk. Staff was polite but unaccomadating when we wanted to take drinks outside onto benches. Nice place with good atmosphere. Didn't eat so can't comment

Good pub grub and a good selection of drinks, busy with plenty of diners even just after opening at 5pm, a decent car park and plenty of parking on the surrounding streets. Prices are fair and service excellent.

Saturday lunchtime family meal. Pre ordered the food which was good quality, hearty pub grub. Staff were polite and helpful. Not very busy so not much atmosphere but that was probably due to the timing.

Went for the Tuesday quiz, the pub was full and had a great atmosphere. We have eaten here often and the food is always excellent and the service is always friendly and fast. You just can't beat a well run independent local pub!

Always a lovely meal at the Half Moon. Myself and my boyfriend have been there several times as a couple and also with a group of friends. There is always lots of choice on the menu. The food and drink are served quickly and you always get a good standard. We like the choice of red wine available there too. This is a regular venue for us and it will continue to be so. Highly recommend pub food.

The Half Moon is a large traditional pub in the middle of the village. There is a large, comfortable lounge and a separate bar that is dog friendly. There is a wide variety of beers, lagers, and cider, including two hand pulled cask conditioned real ales both in excellent condition when I called in. The staff are very friendly and welcoming. A nice village pub.

Friendly service, nice atmosphere and really good food. Pie of the day was really good. Good value as well. Enjoyed the choice of music (80's). Would definitely visit again

Ate here today with our children, the food was nice but both adult and child portions were quite small. The service was really friendly and efficient and the venue was clean and modern for a country pub. There were only three tables eating and one table, a middle aged couple, were sat playing video clips repeatedly on full volume over the pub’s background music which was clearly upsetting us and the other table in there and the staff did nothing. I think the staff should have asked them to turn it down as it was clearly a nuisance (but I accept not their fault). I would eat here again if passing as food was nice.

First visit… very expensive for basic food and the drinks are stupid prices £7.20 for a glass of red wine wow….,..cheaper and much better places to visit and better quality.

Staff are always really friendly, the food is good but standard, doesn't have a decent range/style I'd choose. The alcohol has been decent here in the past and a good range although didn't have the drinks on the menu in stock.

Have been a few times now as its our new local. The food is excellent, and reasonably priced. Good range of drinks to match. We usually go in for a lunch-time meal - often book a table in advance but there's always space for walk ups.

Good choice menu, fast service. The food was plentiful. Cooked to perfection. Staff very attentive and menu knowledgeable Highly recommended.

The wife and I went there on , April. We had excellent meals and the lady's that served us were very attentive, pleasant, and done their work as if they actually wanted to be there. I actually spoke to the manager and told him that is staff were a credit to him. He himself was a very approachable. 100%good.

Table booked 12:15. Got there 12:00. Drinks and food order taken but it was 1 hr 30 mins before food arrived. Disappointing when we could see other tables arrive after us, get their food and finish it before ours arrived. Nobody updated us unless we asked. Food was ok. 4 very small roast potatoes felt stingy for a Sunday roast. Wouldn’t come again on basis of that visit.

Family meal 10 of us visited on a Sunday for the first time. The set up was brilliant with them checking our pre orders before cooking incase of any changes. Food was lovely and hot and very reasonably priced. Desserts were also very good and service across the board was great. We were never rushed and had plenty of tike to sit and talk before leaving. We will definitely be back.

Hello everyone Called in here for an evening meal. as we entered the lounge area we was greeted with have you booked, not good evening can we help. Anyway the young assistant gave us a table and brought us a menu. My wife selected the 10oz gammon, I ordered the cheese burger with fries. In a short while the food arrived. It was served hot, my wife's meal was very well presented, she enjoyed the food although the gammon was a little undercooked. The burger meal looked boring, very pale looking fries, the burger was very nice, but I couldn't taste cheese, it was so thin. No one came back to us to ask if everything was ok and when we had finished our meal no one came to even offer us the sweet menu or bring us the bill. We had to go to the bar to pay, again the bar staff were very polite. This was a typical pub meal, the place lacked atmosphere. I wouldn't say this was good value for money and I wouldn't go back. The BeechTree is far better food, better value for money and a better atmosphere.

Nice lunch (roast dinner in a large Yorkshire pud) with friends. Seems to be working reduced hours and saving on heating which is perhaps understandable at the moment. Beer pricey by local standards

Popped in mid week after a walk at approx 1pm. The menu has some great options, but today, I went for the half-moon brunch. Washed down with a couple of pints of Landlord beer. Fantastic

Slightly disappointed in my steak and ale stew with a lid . Tasted ok but as I said stew with a small lid. Pie's should have a pastry top sides and base.

Arrived very hungry after a very busy Sunday morning...we were told there was no room at the inn, even tho at least half of the tables were unoccupied....wouldn't entertain us at all.I believe it was because we turned up in a transit van and didn't fit the landlords idea of ideal customers. I wonder how different things would have been had I turned up in my range rover fully suited. Believe me, every one IS NOT WELCOME here. One has to fit the profile

three couples,starters and main courses all cooked and delivered on time ,service for drinks excellent,great little pub,we are going to try the outside new garden area in summer.

Having lived here for several years, I've never been in the Half Moon and I'm quite amazed! The staff here are so polite, friendly and they seem to just work well together. The food is really lovely and even the kids plates were completely empty! Dessert was equally nice and enjoyed by all five in our family group. I'm quite annoyed at myself after visiting tonight for not having been here sooner! Thank you to all staff for the lovely atmosphere, service and quality of food 😊 we had a lovely family meal and will help back again soon.

Moved to the area this weekend, no time to cook, decided to go for a Sunday lunch with the family. Very impressed from start to finish - All waiting staff were great, nice interior, friendly atmosphere c served quickly, not a long wait for the food and most important of all, every meal was fantastic and ridiculously good value. Will definitely be returning!

Often go for Sunday lunch. Service can be a bit slow when busy, but in general it's pretty good, and staff are always polite. Cannot really comment on much of the menu, it's we just stick to the Sunday Roast (usually one beef, one turkey), and that is always good. Rest of the menu looks fine, as does the food when it passes, and never heard anyone complaining Would advise booking ahead, as can get busy (as mentioned above)

The young man who waited on us couldn't have been more professional or efficient. Well done you! Take a look above your table and you'll see cobwebs hanging from the lights, thick dust on the cables leading to the bulbs, totally un acceptable in a food house. Look further around the room and you see cob webs near the extractor that look like something from a Halloween event. Take a trip to the gents toilet and you'll find the one and only cubical locked with an out of order sign, not good if you have a medical need. The food was 6/10. What appeared to be 'aunt Bessies' frozen roast potatoes, bland vegetables lacking in attention, a lick of butter on the carrots to give them an appeal would be good. The 'new' side order of cauliflower cheese should be re worded as cauliflower in white sauce - taste the product team... It needs CHEESE. Would we visit again? Doubtful :-(

At last, I have found a wonderful Steak and Kidney Pie! Succulent beef, chunky kidney and puff pastry! Simply delicious. This is a great pub with home cooked food - well worth a visit

Enjoyed a brilliant evening with family (11 in all) with very enjoyable food. The food is always excellent - well done chefs - and the staff friendly. Thoroughly recommend.

Really friendly atmosphere staff were very polite and helpful the food was really tasty it was cosy warm and welcoming I would highly recommend and I will be returning again soon.

We fancied a ride out so booked sunday lunch when we arrived meet by landlord impressed by the place spotless and tables all totally distanced all staff have face covering mportant in theses covide times which some places seem to have forgotten. Both meals were excellent the lamb was delicious. Wine was reasonably priced We have booked again for next Sunday as felt really safe

The best lasagne I have had in a pub. The gammon my husband had must have been1/2 to 3/4 thick. All food nicely presented and served. Will definitely go again and highly recommend it.
