Enjoyed our Sunday lunch only downside was the beef was a bit anemic no taste and the gravy a bit watery. But hey the chap is doing his best beef should have been cooked in gravy mix

The pub is quite small but they managed to accommodate 21 of us for Sunday dinner with no problem. The food was delicious, with decent portions .The choice of meat (chicken, pork or beef, or a slice of all 3) was preordered to save time, presumably because we were such a big group. The staff were all friendly, and if you're in Stokesley one Sunday, and are looking for somewhere for a nice dinner, I would highly recommend the Spread Eagle.

While fulfilling the role of a friendly town centre pub, they unfortunately also host the noisiest of parties in their beer garden, overlooking the meandering stream in the quietest part of the town. Totally out of character with the loveliness of Stokesley, caring nothing for their neighbours for half a mile around; mindless "music" blaring out unceasingly until very late. It's like a single smoker in the room of non-smokers - everyone has to share it. We all appreciate that they had a hard time during lock-down. But so did we all.

Came in today about half three with my wife and asked wether they were still serving Sunday dinners we were told yes not a problem and we were quickly seated and drinks and order taken by a very kind server. Our food didn't take very long but once it arrived it was stone cold and quite frankly inedible. We told the server who was very apologetic and swiftly took our plates away, we waited about ten minutes for our food to be brought back this time a bit hotter but not much, the server then apologised again and asked us if we needed anything else. I would return simply because of the service and with the hope that next time the food would be actually edible as we have heard good things about this pub. All in all quite dissapointed as we aren't local so travelled quite a way.

On route to our holiday destination in north Yorkshire we stopped off in Stokesley to find somewhwere to have lunch. The first place we tried, a large hotel come pub, was closed for the day so we wandered a little further and spotted this little pub, 'The Spread Eagle'. This turned out to be a 'proper' little town pub with a dining area and we iemediatly recieved a warm welcome from the lady at the bar so we thought we would give it a try. Wow! were we pleased we did. The food was excellent. There were four of us, two couples, and I chose a Gammon Steak, my colleague had the home made Rabbit Pie, and the ladies both opted for the Parmasan Chicken dish. Well, when the food came we could not believe the size of the portions. I struggled to finish my Gammon but did so with relish, my colleague devoured his Rabbit Pie declaring the best he had ever tasted, and both our wives agreed that they had never had a chicken dish as different and tasty as the 'Parmasan Chicken'. They both declared that they could only manage to eat half the portion at which point the Chef, who happened to be passing our table, told us it was not a problem as he would give us doggy bags to take with us. He took the plates away and came back shortly with two individually packed bags containg the remainder of the chicken. Our wives subsequently used them for another meal a couple of days later declaring the chicken still very tasty. All the staff were freindly, the service very good, and the food excellent. The only thing we missed was the delightful desserts because we were too full to eat any more.

My wife and I (an elderly couple) popped in here for a midweek lunch on our way to Whitby. The pub is basic but has recently been refurbished and it is one of those places where the locals stop and stare when a stranger enters which can be somewhat intimidating, especially when most of them are elderly gents out for a lunchtime drink. However, don't let this put you off because the food we ordered was made on site and was excellent by pub grub standard and the staff and locals were very friendly once they realised we meant them no harm! And, let's not forget the beer since this is a pub after all. Excellent selection and good quality. Many thanks to the staff. So, remember, don't judge a book by it's cover,

We came by this pub after trying many others finding all of them fully booked and we were very hungry; it was a bad idea to settle for this place. First of all, a father dropped his child's dinner on the floor and on a dirty pub chair and the father placed it back on the plate for the child to eat. A member of staff was aware this had happened and did not offer to replace the poor child's food. After this, I ordered the chicken curry which on arrival appeared rather sad and when tasted was probably the blandest curry I had tasted (worse than a school dinner) followed by a grey hair within it accompanied by rice compared to mush. My mum had a burger which was slightly burnt and my step dad had a Yorkshire pudding filled with mincemeat which looked disgusting and majorly miserable. The only thing we seemed to be looking forward to were some classic pub desserts but when we came to order them they were all unavailable as everything was apparently gone by 8:30pm. Overall, quite a poor experience and would not recommend, we will not be returning.

Traditional Sunday lunches, generous portions and friendly local staff. I generally cook my own but it is a lot of work with few people to help so it is a treat to come here occasionally. Fairly wheel chair friendly if you book in advance but the loos are a bit problematic due to the layout. Having said this the building is over 200 years old so there is little scope for stuctural changes and staff and punters are more than willing to provide assistance. In the summer there is a lovely riverside beer garden where we have all gotten pleasantly squiffy in the sunshine. My one bone of contention is that we are in Yorkshire so please leave the Aunt Bessies in the fridge and try cooking your own Yorkshire puds!!!

Visited here with a relative for lunch and left very disappointed. I had the Steak Pie. It was warm, what there was of it. It was an infant sized portion along with the tiny amount of veg. It was very dry and the chips were seemingly oven chips over done in a deep fat fryer. My relative had the fish and chips, the chips were obviously as bad as mine. The fish was tiny and dark brown. It was well over fried and was like a crisp. These two meals were ordered from the larger appetite menu. I'd hate to see how small a serving would appear had we ordered from the smaller appetite section. The food was delivered to the table and nobody came to ask how the food was till 20 minutes later. The worst thing was, I paid for the food whilst ordering from the bar, had I not, I wouldn't of paid a penny. I shouldn't of eaten it, but I didn't want to mess my elderly relative about whilst looking for somewhere else to eat. I will just never return to this pub. 2 bad meals, 2 pints of Beer and 2 pints of Lemonade. £36. Terrible!!!!

We happened on this pub whilst looking for (a rather late) Lunch. From the outside it was not particularly inviting. However, we decide to give it a try. As elsewhere reported, the interior is very 'old world' with a number of small tables and benches. It's not the type of place to go to for a special celebration! We ordered food, it did not take too long to arrive and we were pleasantly surprised at the large portions served. The Steak pie covered half of the plate and was very satisfying. The Fish and Chips were very good. We much enjoyed our lunch which we considered excellent value.

After a family meal we went for a drink in the Spread EagleOlder bar maid was rude and abrupt In addition despite the fact that their was several of us obviously waiting to be served , when a local customer came to the bar, clearly local as she addressed him by his first name , she ignored us and served him.All of us noticed thisWe didn't feel welcome

Note been here for a long time but dropped in for a pint before lunch at Chapters. Service was good as were the beers. Need to come back for a night out at some point.

I guess this is a 'free House' from the range of ales that it sells and the number of 'guest' beers on tap. Friendly service, reasonable prices, no rowdy large screen television - a percvect old-style pub.

We went for a lovely walk along the river and noticed people sitting in the beer garden opposite so we thought we would call in for some lunch if our dogs were allowed. They were welcomed in with a big bowl of water which is just what they needed. The beer garden is a sun trap which we loved and they also have sheltered tables if you prefer to be outside but not in the sun. Sitting on the table at the back you are next to the river and it's nice to relax and listen to the water and ducks.Lunch was fantastic and excellent value for money and all fresh, however next time we visit I think I will share the baggette and chips as it was very filling. The staff were helpful and friendly even though they were extremely busy. All in all great location, great food and great staff. We will certainly return.

once again Spring is here and demands our return to this cosy gem of a pub.Food is of the first order and good value.Paula is attentive and helpful. Cheltenham festival racing was on while we were there but the regulars turned the pre-match waffle down so we ate in comfort.See you in the Autumn for a return visit.

Visited as a small group for Sunday lunch. Our group had a couple of young children in pushchairs but staff were incredibly accommodating. All in all this was just a very nice place. Staff really friendly and attentive, environment itself very pleasant (same can be said for the visiting local patrons).Food enjoyable, honest, home cooked and also very reasonably priced.Unlikely to win any awards for glamour or Michelin-style food, but none of this matters one bit when an establishment is run in such a friendly and personable manner such as this. Would definitely visit again.

After spending several dry weeks in "Al Rehab", (the hotel bar in Saudi), at 5pm the Pork scratchings and chips have washed down nicely with a couple of side orders of Pedigree. Glad to be back.

My earlier review mentioned Sarah as friendly, she has been superseded by a similar friendly person in the shape of Paula.Same good food at a reasonable price, will be calling again in the spring!

We found this friendly pub by chance as we were walking through Stokesley at a very busy time with the fair in the market square. The bar staff were most helpful and the food was pretty good too. Our dogs settled right in immediately so we were able to enjoy a lovely meal out. Thanks.

En-route home and ready for something to eat this Sunday, we sopped off in Stokesley and found the Spread Eagle Inn close to where we parked the car. A lively little pub full of locals. some drinking and some eating. We ordered a main course Sunday roast as we only wanted one course and it was truly delightful. Great friendly service and would recommend.

Living locally we use Thomas The Baker fairly often and find their rolls tasty and good value for money- their Wensleydale Cheese and chutney roll is my favourite. Staff are friendly. Would recommend.

Excellent cafe. Steak nights on Friday each month were rather special. Fabulous breakfast and cafe. Brilliant locally sourced and home made produce. Well run and fabulous venue. Will be missed

Lovely carvery meal at Arcadia near Stokesley today. Unfortunately the inner automatic door remained open so when the outer door opened everyone in the lower floor area was subjected to cold air from outside. The two automatic doors are supposed to create an airlock to minimise heat loss so this needs fixing asap.

Not a bad place to eat for a cheap meal, staff friendly, prices good, but toilets 4 miles away and tables beyond sticky.
