Food was tasty. However the crusted cod ordered by 2 of our party was served with a very meagre amount of tiny pieces of crispy potatoes. It was like 3 chips chopped up. I pointed this out to the girl serving as it was more like a starter. She took it back to the kitchen and quickly returned to say chef was making some more. I had to laugh and I think even the serving girl was embarrassed when she brought me a tiny bowl you’d normally get mayo/ketchup in with another very meagre portion of potato pieces! Also it was meant to be served with creamed leeks and there must have been a leek shortage too! Saying that the other 2 party members had significantly larger portions, a gammon and a sizzler. When the plates were cleared I also informed the guy of the issue with the potatoes served with the cod. He asked the other person if hers was the same and she had said she wasn’t bothered by the small portion, she does not have much appetite and often has a starter instead of main. It’s a shame I came home hungry and I’m not a big eater myself. I’d consider going again but if you’re hungry give the crusted cod a miss! Edit 22/10/24. The owner rang me last week to discuss and apologise. He told me he would be speaking to the manager and would get back to me.

Lovely pub, great decor and friendly service. Have been visiting family in the area for over 20 years in Low Worsall area. I have fond memories of this place, with many pints and meals, including a reception just before my wedding at All Saints church next door in 2009. However, after our first visit in over five years, we were disappointed with the choice of beers available - no local beers on tap and limited selection. After visiting from Australia, disappointed to see two taps dedicated to Fosters (no we don’t drink it down under). This was a shame, especially given the great breweries in the area.

Unable to rate the food as we didn’t actually get served any! It’s disappointing to have to leave a poor review but today’s experience sadly warrants it. We booked a table for Sunday lunch at 3pm. We did arrive 5 mins late due to a traffic incident on our way there. We were shown to a dark dismal table away from any other diners and close to the main entrance so we asked if we could be moved to another table in the main area with other people which they agreed to. We got our own drinks at the bar whilst they set the table. Once we were seated we were given the menus and told someone would be with us shortly to take our order. We asked one member of staff a question about the menu and she came back immediately with an answer. We thought this would then lead to someone coming to take our order but it didn’t. We waited 35 mins without one person approaching our table. During that time period serving staff came into the area to clear tables and bring food to other customers on numerous occasions and we tried to make eye contact to no avail and no one asked if our order had been taken. We were in clear sight of staff we had spoken to earlier who were stood behind the bar and yet they seemed oblivious to us sat there waiting. Two members of staff at various times were also engaged in a conversation with a female on the table immediately behind us about her coming to work there - in our opinion that conversation shouldn’t have taken so long if at all when you have diners waiting to be served. One staff member spent some time taping up what we can only assume was a trip hazard on the stairs leading up to where our table was. Diners were completely bemused by this and the loud noise. At 40 minutes waiting we made the decision to ring a pub/restaurant closer to home and book a table there. A lady sat near us said she worked in hospitality and was appalled at the service (or lack of in this case) we had received. We did ask to speak to the Manager to let him know why we were leaving and also that we wouldn’t be paying for the 2 drinks which we had hardly touched anyway. To be fair to the Manager he was very apologetic and quite embarrassed. He did offer us a half price meal and immediate service but by that time we were just ready to leave. The place was practically empty anyway so no atmosphere. We are not sure if this was just a one off bad day they were experiencing as the staff seemed harassed but from our perspective the service was really very poor. We decided to eat there due to the really good reviews about the food we had read so it was very disappointing. There needs to be someone overseeing the restaurant area at all times so that customers aren’t ignored/left unattended. It shouldn’t be up to diners to approach waiting staff to make them aware they haven’t had their order taken. We also think some members of staff need further customer service training as their attitude once made aware of the oversight was very poor. Not left us with a good impression sadly.

Well what can i say. I dine around in various restaurants but this place is my favourite. It was closed for a short while last year and having had the time at long last to visit i was not disappointed. The food is excellent. The man serving us the other Friday was perfect in every way. He did his job with such enthusiasm and dedication that he deserves an award. The two of us had a starter, cheesy garlic bread, mains was mushroom tagliatelle with added chicken and a delicious house burger and we both had the gorgeous tasting strawberry cheesecake served in a cute small milk bottle type glass. Such a lovely place to dine. Will be returning again soon.

Just been for Sunday Lunch and couldn’t be more disappointed. I’ve been coming here since I was a young child and that’s the worst it’s been. The starter was supposed to be a salad with no salad in sight. I was given a starter knife to cut beef and had to ask for a proper knife. My partner was not impressed with his dry chicken breast. No stuffing with the Sunday lunches. We were only asked if we wanted a drink once and it’s also quite patronising asking if you want the red or orange coloured drink 🙃 the toilets were soaking with toilet water so I’ve come out covered in toilet water. We left feeling not full at all after a starter and main and we definitely were not staying for dessert.

What a delightful find . We did a surprise visit from Dorset to Kirklevington for my Aunty’s 80 th birthday and decided to pop out for supper . We booked a table and arrived at this lovely pub . How could it be empty on a Saturday night ? Come on people of Yarm use it or lose it !! The staff Matthew, Skye,Shonee and the chef were amazing. All five of us , four not local , tried our first ever chicken Parmesan . WOW it was delicious, the wedges were scrummy too and the side salad beautifully dressed . We almost cleared our plates but the portions were so generous we didn’t quite manage. The wine was good and very reasonably priced compared to what we are used to paying at home . We will be back on our next visit so please people of the north east try this lovely place , support new local businesses……… or lose it !

Sunday lunch for 10..no bread rolls no bread and butter....soup and prawn cocktails served with dry melba toast no glazed parsnips no glazed carrots no stuffing...we did eventually get some almost raw stuffing... no cauliflower cheese..no chicken...the beef we requested without gravy came with gravy and was unfortunately the last of any meat....so one of the party had no sunday lunch at all....not that they were missing much....this member of the party got steak and chips some time after the rest of us finished eating what we did get....the man who was in charge told us it was all complementary....then it seemed he didn't have the authority to say that and it wasn't....not sure if they offer apple sauce with the pork or horseradish with the beef...would be a good idea... most places do...a portion of pigs in blankets seemed to be one and a half..very bizarre that ....the fire needs some attention.....its a health hazzard ...as we were covered in ash ...and at one time coughing and choking with the amount of smoke coming into the room...not good when two of the party have respiratory problems. .we didn't bother with dessert and decided that enough was enough....all in all a memorable 70th birthday lunch.....am extremely disappointed...and as my lungs feel on fire suspect it will be several weeks before i am fit enough to go anywhere for lunch

Poor service and poor food tonight. Never been before and won’t be going back for a while. The staff seemed nice people and I’m sure they are. Felt like they have their hands tied by the employer. Poor quality ingredients, poor standards in kitchen. Fryers clearly not cleaned properly for a while and poor quality food served. I don’t usually complain or leave a bad review. I just don’t go back. On this occasion I complained, won’t go back in a hurry and unfortunately feel strong enough to leave a bad review. Visited the ship over a year ago with family and friends and it was amazing however this time it was dreadful in all honesty. I ordered the 10oz sirloin steak which cost £24, the steak was completely tasteless and you could tell no seasoning was used when cooking, the only flavour on the steak was from the burn marks off of the griddle pan, the only way to get flavour on the steak was to cover it in salt and pepper and pour the whole contents of the Diane sauce onto it. Id expect this type of steak to be served to me at a cheap chain restaurant at half the price, the £24 price tag is completely unjustified when the chef can’t even season the meat with the bare minimum of salt and pepper. My partner had ordered a half parmo which cost just under £11, the overall taste wasn’t actually that bad however it was really small and had a total of 3 pieces if pepperoni and 4 jalopeno slices. I’d of said it was closer to a child’s portion and definitely wasn’t worth the price. For drinks I’d ordered a pint of birra moretti and a fosters, the moretti was £6.20 which is very steep for the vast majority of pubs in the teeside area or even the north east for that matter, you could clearly tell there was something off with either the barrel or taps as it had a weird aftertaste. The fosters was £4.80 which again is very steep considering it’s one of the cheapest beers in most other pubs. Overall the food and drinks were very disappointing for the price, the food and drinks menu is tiny compared to what it used to be and the portions are considerably smaller as well yet the prices have stayed the same or at least very similar. I think you’d be better off going to a hungry horse or Greene king or just about any other pub in the teeside area as they would be cheaper and the food would be better. The new ownership need to make some big changes asap as this place was renowned for its lovely food and atmosphere. Finally To top it all off when I went to pay I got sprayed all over my full upper body from the bad birra moretti tap as the bar man was pouring a drink and I received no apology. I won’t be returning again and feel my £70 was completely wasted tonight, I’ll stick to the usuals next time such as the apple tree, prickly pear and olivellos in Middlesbrough

My sister & I were very much looking forward to having Sunday lunch here, at The Ship. Being our first visit since reopening our expectations were high. How disappointed we were. We were greeted with paper menus & told that there was no Nut Roast as it hadn't been delivered that morning & so there was no vegetarian dish only vegetables. Being pescatarian we decided to settle with starters & a dessert. After 15 mins with no one coming to take our orders we went to the bar & ordered our drinks. Finally a waiter came & we ordered 2 prawn cocktails. After another lengthy wait they arrived, prawns on top of lettuce, nothing else, seved with 2 halves of cheap white supermarket bread. So unappetising that we decided to leave. We explained the situation to the waiter at the bar, that we were very disappointed & wouldn't be stopping. We were asked if we'd eaten the starters - obviously ready to charge us!! There was no apology, sympathy or interest. We will not be returning. I would also add that it was very cold with no evidence of any heating being on. On our way home we stopped at the Durham Lane Fisheries & enjoyed some excellent fish & chips served by the lovely new owners - so we didn't starve!

So disappointed! Can only think it must have been taken over as definitely not how it used to be. Arrived early Friday evening and it was relatively quiet. Shown to a table and the table top was sticky with a crumpled paper menu on it. Asked for two drinks of which the Diet Coke had to be sent back as it was flat. Asked for a second drink which was served from a carton. Waited an hour for 2 main meals to be served and when they came we wished they hadn’t. Totally beige parmo meal. No salad garnish just potato wedges and chicken parmo. I thought it was an impossibility to ruin a parmo but the cook here managed it! It just left you with the taste of grease. Left the majority of it and didn’t want to even bring it back for the dog🙄 Couldn’t get out of there quick enough and am now on first name terms with a bottle of Gaviscon 😬

Myself and my husband visited the Ship Inn for dinner this evening and have been left very disappointed. When we arrived, the pub was very quiet - there must have only been a maximum of 3 other tables in use, this probably should have been a warning sign to us. To my frustration, Dining as a couple (in a somewhat empty restaurant) we were seated next to the loudest, rowdiest family with two small children and we were put on a table which may as well have been on the main road outside of the pub. There was much better places we could have been seated if a little thought had gone into it by the staff that perhaps a couple may want a quieter place to eat and enjoy the evening. Before visiting the pub, we looked at them menu online as we both fancied a proper dinner with veg and gravy... Great news for us as there was a lovely sounding slow-cooked beef-brisket on the menu so we booked our table. When we actually looked at the menu on the table, the beef brisket was nowhere to be seen and when we asked about this we were told the website menu was a "winter menu" ... well we are almost in July now so I would expect a "winter menu" to have been replaced by a spring/summer menu on the website by now. So we relooked at the menu and I decided to go for the pie of the day, as it came with veg and gravy so hopefully it would satisfy my craving for a proper dinner. My husband decided to go for the parmo loaded with bbq brisket only to both be told when ordering that neither of those dishes were available. Begrudgingly we then both ordered the original parmos. When the food arrived, it was disappointing to see there was not one piece of salad/garnish on the plate, literally just parmo and chips. The chicken on the parmo was poor and I found several veiny black bits in it. The parmo was also tasteless, dry and I'd go as far to say the worst parmo I've ever had. When asked "is everything ok?" the lady had left before I even had chance look at her and say I was disappointed. For £14 each, we felt robbed! We will not be returning. It is such a shame because previously we have had many nice meals at this pub but it seems there has been a change in ownership/chef as the food and overall experience was poor.

Booked a table for tonight (9th June), for 8 people for my mams birthday. We looked up the menu online for an idea of menu, a couple (including the birthday girl), had heart set on the braised beef, one on the steak, myself and 1 others on the sizzling stir fry. When we got there, there was no braised beef or steak on menu, so they decided on the Thai curry, so we ordered, only for them to come back and say they couldn’t do curry as they didn’t have the vegetables, so they then decided on the sizzling stir fry (that was 4 stir fry’s), only for them to come back and say they couldn’t do the stir fry’s as they had no vegetables! So we then had to find somewhere else to go where they actually had some food to serve. Very poor, when we had travelled from Middlesbrough to get there, spoilt my mams birthday. Felt sorry for the young staff who had to keep coming to tell us they didn’t have our meals, they couldn’t have been more apologetic, not their fault, managements fault, absolute atrocious, and will never be returning!

Takings the dogs places can often be a worry but she sorted water for them without us needing to ask, she accommodated a fussy meal request and was generally lovely - thank you. I’ve seen a few negative reviews on here lately but that hasn’t been my experience today. Thanks to Leanne too.

Very much a restaurant based pub, not a pub based restaurant. Nice menu. Take a coat, a little cold.

Good food. Good menu, including veggie versions. Nice pub. Reasonable prices (In this inflation market) Good selection of drinks available. ( NOT a pub for drinkers). More a restaurant than pub.

Nice setting shame about the food seemed like sauce was out of a jar chicken seemed compressed. No apology when mentioned. Will never go back.

On a positive, the setting was comfortable with a modern interior and it has good space for parking. However, the food we ordered was inedible slop - it was clearly pre-packed chicken with sauce from a jar. The rice was microwave packet rice and the cup of tea was made with a cheap teabag. Disappointing as the place has the potential to be so much better. The service was shocking - when we informed the women when paying the bill she didn’t have the decency to apologise that we hadn’t eaten any of our meals and still expected full payment. She even had the cheek to say we had given her 50p short of cash! Until a chef and staff with customer care is employed here, I would certainly avoid or you will leave feeling hungry and disheartened.

Having lived locally for many year before moving away The Ship has always been a firm family favorite for a pub meal, however when we returned on Saturday evening we were all left feeling pretty underwhelmed. On arrival we were informed that a number of items from the menu were no longer available, this continued when we were asked if we wanted to pudding. The menu itself we felt was quite reduced with no specials and nothing aside from typical pub food, fish and chips, gammon, burgers, I make a note of this because this hasn’t always been the case. The pudding menu in our opinion was very limited with only 4 available choices, again non of which grabbed our attention. Staff were polite but not overly friendly as they had been previously and didn’t create any atmosphere or enjoyment with their interactions with us. Service was timely and staff were attempted despite their communication being very transactional. A waitress approached our table with a drink non of us had ordered, when we informed her of this she walked away without comment, we later discovered the drink had been added to our bill, without our knowledge. Some friends always dinned at The Ship on Saturday evening and in discussion the following day also commented that they had been left feeling disappointed with the experience they had had, we won’t be hurrying back.

Good service, good portion of food. Reasonable price. I ordered the chicken breast in a Diane sauce. It was okay. Chips could be crispier, Diane sauce had a slight taste of mustard. They provided ketchup, mayonnaise and tartare sauce.

Lovely pub meal at the ship at low worsall. Pub was nicely decorated, chairs comfy. Multiple eating areas, we were tucked away in a little corner, no other diners near us and it was a little gloomy and cold! The food was really good, limited veggie choice though curry or Mediterranean tart. The tart was exceptional though, so good even the pastry was really good. My friend had the gammon, she said it was gorgeous and huge a portion. Value for money was excellent.

Visited for a family meal. Overall, a highly enjoyable experience was had by all. We were seated at a large table in comfortable surroundings. The staff were friendly and attentive at all times. The service was prompt and efficient with limited waiting time. I opted for the Southern Fried Chicken Strips as a starter, which were crispy and packed full of flavour. Then, despite usually opting for fish fingers 😉 I choose the Hawaiian Parmo for main course, which was succulent and extremely tasty. I couldn't really fault the food at all and the company was pretty good too.

Very sub-par. Not offered drinks/wine menus at our tables, and not told what the Pie of the day was. Had a Hawaiian parmo. Very average at best.... No crispyness to the bread crumbs. No salad with the parmo - just chips and garlic. You have to pay another £3.50 if you want salad with it. A bit off when you are already paying £15.50! It's normally a given that PARMOS com with chips and salad.

This is the worse I've ever seen in a jd Wetherspoons nearly every table littered with old dirty plates bar full of glasses to wash and 30 mins wait on food only 2 on bar definitely not recommend

Reserved a table online for a small family reunion. Clearly a popular spot and there were a lot of people milling around outside and drinking outside the pubs on the main street. Service inside was good and there was a good choice of food which was very tasty. Sadly there was a large group of well watered men booked onto the table next to us, in the area by the bar, which completely spoilt the last half of our meal as we simply couldn't hear each other talking. It was a real shame that staff didn't consider putting us in the other part of the restaurant where there were several empty tables all evening, or relocating us for the last part of our meal when it would have been obvious we could no longer converse or hear. .... this would have made all the difference. (It would have been awkward having to ask to be moved ... but care from front of house staff could have carefully relocated us.)

Good value Sunday Lunch with all the usual trimmings, Pork was good and a piece of crackling, 2 Yorkshire puddings, nice cauliflower cheese and swede mash, The rest was the usual veg you get with a Sunday lunch, Plates were hot which is a good sign, A very good sticky toffee pudding and custard, Toilet are very clean, 2 good guest Ales, bonus for us ale drinkers as we all don't drink Lager or cider, Return, definitely.
