First time visiting this pub today. Myself, my sister and family had been to trek up Roseberry Topping, which was to celebrate and concrete my sisters end of cancer treatment and getting back to feeling better again. The staff in this pub were absolutely wonderful, they were so friendly, warm, kind and caring. The food just put the icing on the cake, the parmo was one of the nicest I've had before ☺️ The perfect end to a very wonderful and memorable day. Thank you again to the staff working this afternoon. I'm sure you know who you are ☺️ absolutely beautiful people!

We booked online for a Dog Friendly table and it was very simple. This is the first time we have visited here in over 20 years. The service was excellent and the food was very good. Good selectikn on the Menu. The dog menu is funny and the doggy bowl of sausages was vast. All in all excellent. We will be back...

Booked table online, staff were very welcoming on entry and was sat away from main restaurant area as my dog was with me, following this I felt forgotten and rarely saw anyone to take order or any other requests, apart from this the food was exceptional and a very nice establishment...I would definitely return in the future

I highly recommend the wonderful Royal Oak in beautiful Great Ayton. It's a lovely local family run establishment, with Simon & Katy Fletch at the helm. Not only is the food excellent & the staff attentive, they can arrange an amazing party too! With a private function room upstairs or for larger gatherings, Simon will give you use of the main restaurant instead - if you have a larger group of people. As it was my 50th Birthday, I wanted a gathering of family & friends with one main requirement - a retro buffet! Simon & his team excelled themselves. The vol-au-vents, renouned Petches pies, quiches, sandwiches, sausages rolls & chips were gorgeous. Food was automatically topped up when required. Anthony & Angela ensured everything ran seamlessly. Plus they will cater for any special dietary needs. If you are planning a party, gathering or event I would contact The Royal Oak and chat your plans through with them - they offer great value food packages which you can tailor to suit your palate & purse strings. A personal Thank You from me to all the Staff involved in my party (including the behind the scenes chef's!)

We were delighted with our overnight stay at the Royal Oak. Arrived about 4:30 to be greeted cheerily and efficiently. Shown to a lovely smart comfy room which was nice and light and airy. Dinner was great...food fabulous. We then got fresh milk for our room too...nothing was too much trouble. Breakfast the following day was huge and great quality...so we made up a bacon sandwich (having been given foil to wrap it in). A great stay

Sunday lunch. The vegetables and beef were fine, though my 'full' meal had the same amount of beef as the small meal my mother had. Very disappointing Yorkshire pudding, only one each and tough and overdone. Had much better meal in the past but that was some years ago.

The Royal Oak in Great Ayton is a great dog friendly choice for an afternoon pint, a home made meal from the menu or maybe even stayover in one of the high end spacious rooms. A well stocked bar, and plenty of tables all around and outside in the beer garden. With quiz nights and grill nights on weekly. My room had an En suite wlth an overhead shower. The plug sockets by the bed had USB in them. The towels were lovely and soft and so was the bed. Theres a TV on the wall and tea and coffee making facillities for a morning brew.

Turned up as a group of 15 on a Saturday afternoon without booking ( we were out for a walk and decided to pop in) . The restaurant staff ( two ladies and a man ) were lovely and seated us quickly. The food came quickly which was great given there were so many of us and we hadn’t booked. The food was absolutely delicious, piping hot and the portions were large . The ladies were chatty and helped us with directions back to our accommodation. Real shame that the man behind the bar was quite rude, seemed really cross that we’d turned up to spend money in his pub! Fortunately his colleagues were extremely friendly and welcoming and we had a lovely lunch. Thank you for squeezing us in !

So after a brisk walk along the River Leven, the Royal Oak offered a great choice on their menu, all food being “ home cooked”. We would recommend the fish & chips, accompanied with homemade tartar sauce & mushy or garden peas, and the home made pie of the day,( this day it was chicken & mushroom ) and homemade gravy! With mashed potato and garden peas. Sadly my Hot Shot Parmo was not up to it's usual standard. For £2.50 extra (extortionate) my pepperoni was just chucked on top (Normally under the cheese), there were a couple of random chilli's on there as well, but NO SIGN of any Japapeno . Was big though. Very disapointing experience!. After a lovely weekend in York I wanted to treat my grandparents to a Sunday dinner in a traditional pub. On first impressions don’t get me wrong the atmosphere was nice and the decor was lovely. When seated however we where squeezed onto a small table despite it not being too busy. When ordering we found many of the options we fancied where unavailable despite only being 6pm. We all decided to have a beef dinner. When it arrived I noticed that I was missing a Yorkshire pudding compared to everyone else. I assumed it had accidentally been missed or knocked off however when I asked the waiter he told me that they had ran out of Yorkshire puddings !. When digging in to our dinner we all noticed that the dinner was cold, the beef was so tough you couldn’t cut it and the carrots had not been cooked. Don’t get me wrong the waiter was lovely and to be honest I felt sorry for him as it was only himself and another man running the pub who where both ran off their feet. When notifying him of our disappointment he did offer us a discount and was very apologetic. I understand businesses can be understaffed however this was a very disappointing way to end our lovely weekend in York.

The Buck is a large hotel/pub on the way into the village with a nice position by the stream side. From a design and decor perspective it is pretty much the norm for modern pubsand although it seems to target diners as the main market, there is enough space to cater for people who just want a drink. On a Monday evening it was pretty quiet when we were in and the service was pleasant, as were our drinks.
