Not the nicest of welcomes I've had walking into a pub. Asked to see the food menu and virtually thrown at us whilst we sat for drinks. Asked if we were OK to have just drinks, she told us to go next door and find a bar stool. I'm not sure I'd return to give you my money!!

Upon fishing a lovely walk around Roseberry Topping, me and my 3 sisters were on the hunt for a good meal to refuel before driving the hour journey back home. A quick Google search lead us a few minutes down the road to this little gem of a place. First impressions were that it was a very welcoming cosy and friendly place very traditional, the staff were amazing, very accommodating and thankfully didn't mind we were a wee bit muddy from the walk 🙏 hot drinks brought straight out to us. We weren't waiting very long before our breakfasts were brought out , and they were delicious very good quality ingredients and you could tell everything was cooked fresh and was full of flavour, I must give a big shout out to the black pudding it was the best I've had ( tasted and looked home made) we were all very impressed and cleaned our plates leaving feeling very full and satisfied, if I was in the area again I would 100% be eating here again.

Booked for 4pm. Arrived around 3.30pm, seated straight away by a friendly and welcoming waiter. We were able to order straight away and drinks arrived promptly, shortly followed by our Sunday lunch. Our pooch was catered for also with his own meal served with ours (£4.50 for doggy meal). Atmosphere lovely as always, food delicious 😋 pork crackling especially so. I had the trio of meats, my mam went for beef dinner and with a bottle of red and a coffee thrown in the whole bill came to £62.30 (I believe). Which I'd say is value for money given the quality of service the food and general ambience.

Traditional Yorkshire pub in the center of a lovely village. Beautiful room furnished in a modern country style and immaculate newly refurbished shower room. Delicious food! We had dinner and breakfast and the ingredients were all quality and cooked to perfection. The sausage, bacon and black pudding come from the butcher next door and the eggs are really fresh. For starters we had the ham hock terrine with piccalilli and thd seafood cocktail, very generous portions. Lots of smoked salmon, crayfish tails and smoked macrel on the seafood cocktail. Can recommend the lasagne, the parmos and the chips are proper chips, yummy. We tried a bailies creme brulee and a lemon and Berry delicious, both scrumptious. The bar has a great selection of beers, lagers, gins & wines and gas a real fire. The staff are all really friendly and attentive. Love this pub and can't wait to return.

Location is fine unless walking the Cleveland Way. The road down from the trail is quite busy and cars driving SO fast. Get a taxi if possible. Royal Oak staff knew a local guy, who he kindly called to take us back to the trail the next day for 10£. Our room had exhaust fan underneath room so we had to shut windows or smell fish oil all night, but there was a fan for the heatwave.

Not great unfortunately. Firstly the positives. The service was great. Very friendly and efficient. The pub is nice with a cosy setting. Was fairly busy too but this didn't affect the efficiency. We visited here for friends for a Sunday lunch. The food was fairly disappointing especially for what we paid. The trio of meats, there was hardly of that. A very minimal portion of veg came out separately. The quality of food was average at best. Roast potatoes a little underdone.

Great local pub. However, it is not very clean, and even though dogs are allowed in the bar area, find some locals use this as their drinking hole to fall down drunk, and staff still serve drinks. Found this unpleasant and, a local drunken woman annoying. Food not great.

I went to the Royal Oak busy place, never been before we were looking foreword to it. I had a parmo, poor and flat about 2mm cheese on top it looked like Someone had sat on it. I paid for a large portion this was just a normal size one from anywhere else. The salad was poor, and the chips like I’ve never seen before, white scrappy soft/hard. A few years ago I knew a chef who worked in this pub, he was really good and his specialty was cheese cake. I had not seen him for a few years and hoped he still worked there, so I ordered the chef special cheesecake I was getting exited, until I got my cheesecake, it was so poor and flat I would say about 8mm from bottom to top. I knew then he did not work here. My granddaughter could have done a better cheesecake obviously the chef must be on furlough. Never again it was so flat flat flat and the price was extortionist so glad for the government 10.00 off each person

First day of the Government's scheme for up to half price meals. We made a big saving on full price, as did many others - the place was nearly full at 6pm. The food was good, but service very poor. We'd been there an hour when we got our food, and were on our second drink. We asked for a dessert menu, but no one came to take our order so rather than prolong the frustration, we went to the till and paid - no one brought the bill to our table when we asked for it. It's not as if they were short staffed - there were a lot of waiting staff, but they weren't being managed.

Came in to the pub after booking for 4 and a baby.We were seated fairly quickly as we were early for our dinner, our baby was a little tired so was very restless which made the experience bad for us. The place was fairly busy but not packed out the service was slow, took around 20 mins before we had to ask someone for drinks then we decided we better just order food too. The drinks took ages to come but the food arrived quickly which was good, the food was ok nothing special the meat was lovely everything else lacked flavour and the gravy was way too watery. There was an old couple who kept making snide remarks about my son who was clearly distressed and had been taken out of the pub by 3 of us to pacify him. We overheard her rude comments complaining about him crying (babies dont cry in her house obviously) and the whole situation left a bitter taste in our mouths, we probably won't return.

Went for a Sunday lunch visit after noy going for many years. The place has changed considerably in that time and I do not think to the better. The pub has 2 entrances and diners are requested to use the right hand entrance which leads in to a bar area where you go to request a table for lunch. I was asked to follow a waiter and after walking all the way through the rear of the pub and past the dining room we ended back at a table next door to the bar area at the opposite side of the pub and about 14 feet from the other front door entrance!! All the tables on offer seem to be very close together and everywhere to the rear of the pub lacks any lightness due to there being no windows to brighten the surroundings. Regrettably I found the food to be only average and was really not excited with the experience

Visited the Royal Oak while staying in a lodge at Angrove Country Park early January & after reading the reviews on TA. We'd walked through the village earlier in the day & popped in to book a table as we were advised that it's a popular night. We could not fault any part of our evening - especially the very amicable service provided by Mike through to the quality of the drinks and meal itself. We both had rump steak, served with chunky chips mushroom & tomato - we swapped the salad for vegetables. The steaks were cooked perfectly and went down very well with the house red (normally priced £16.95). All of this for just £25 for the two meals & bottle of wine!!! Don't know how they do it?Will definitely return on our next visit to the area 10/10

the meal was okay, value for money. however the slow service let the experience down. It was almost like we did not exist with staff passing us constantly. The ultimate was 30 mins + waiting for desert and coffee. My wife had to ask a passing waitress where our desert and coffee was. She checked and found the male waiter/manager who took our order had put it on the bill but (somehow) it had not been served! she said we could have the coffee free when we finally got it. the male waiter/manager sheepishly came over and apologised saying a computer glitch had caused the delay and the coffee would be taken off the bill (whoopee). this still does not explain why staff passed us several times over the half hour and did not ask if everything was okay, this is normal practise in any restaurant. and no, it was not busy. we had our new years evening meal here, that was busy.

Called tea time on a sunday for late lunch with visiting family. The sunday lunch was average, and we thought expensive. We asked if it was possible to have more carrots as certain members of party didn't eat the other veg. This was no problem to them and supplied free of charge, thank you. Service was very slow ( there was only 3 tables in) hence the little one started to get a bit agitated. Sweets took an age to arrive, I'm sorry to say the millionaire sundae was in the most uneatable, ice cream was ok but the shortbread was harder than concrete dont know what they had done with it.
