Went for lunch today during Burger and Pie Week. We had a venison burger and a turkey burger, both were delicious. Great service from the young bartender. We heard her telling other guests she was only 16 but she was so confident and welcoming, even gave us a little taste of the cider before we ordered. Only room for improvement is that it was a little chilly, maybe light that lovely fire on a grey October day.

Came in for Sunday roast and food was 10/10, best roast we have had for quite a while. What lacked was the service. We booked for 3pm and whilst we appreciate we entered at a busy time wrapping up peak time, service received wasn’t great from the off. One particular server seemed to be in quite a mood and was remarkably blunt “no” when we asked questions about getting some extra yorkshires (which we were a bit surprised the pork meal didn’t come with, but our fault for not reading the menu properly!) Plus someone seemed to think it was a great idea to loudly polish/sort out the cutlery at the bar, which was right next to our table, making conversation quite difficult and picked up by all 4 members of our party. Shame as food was amazing and would go back, but service lacked. 3pm bookings just as important as 12pm as all paying the same!

Visited Taylors on a drizzly Sunday with my Mum and some friends. We had the delicious Sunday Roast. I went for Beef with all the trimmings. Opted for the Lemon Meringue pie for dessert! Amazing! Great value for money £22.00 for two courses. Friendly staff and cosy atmosphere. Super Gluten Free Menu! Would definitely return when we're in Tavistock again.

Beautiful place and restaurant. The only issue is, when choosing a piece of steak, we were told that the only way chef would cook it, is the only way chef would eat it. Which meant rare. I don’t like rare, and my husband hates it. We came to a compromise. Unfortunately when served, it wasn’t rare, it was raw. This cost £100! I just wish that I had been served food that I enjoyed eating. Unfortunately I won’t return. We have supported this establishment and the chef, but we felt that we just weren’t listened to. Indeed we were told next time the chef would only cook to his desire for each cut. It’s a bit of a liberty, especially when you try to support local. Maybe listen to your customers.

Scrumptious💕good to warm your heart had the most fabulous evening last night. The food was simply outstanding. The wines were supplied by Sovereign Wines…delicious. Gorgeous meat from Palmers the butcher. Dartmoor Ice-cream and Flapjackery added to our delicious desserts and Pettifours. 43 people dined and received exemplary service and outstanding food. As a fundraiser we raised a good sum of money for The Tavistock Foodbank. As a community group we totalled £3915 so far for charitable causes. As a community group we enjoyed great company in a fabulous local restaurant serving delicious local food supplied by local businesses. What more could we ask for! Thank you Mike Palmer and your amazing team. Give this new business a chance and spend an evening here you won’t regret it for a moment. 43 the best food we have enjoyed in a long time. Great venue for Christmas parties and any functions for up to 50 people.

Dear [Restaurant Management], I have been a loyal patron of the Horn of Plenty for the past 20 years, making it a tradition to dine at your establishment during my annual October visit to Cornwall. I have always cherished my experiences, which have consistently been a highlight of my trips. However, my recent visit in 2024 left me disappointed and saddened. Firstly, the new decor, with its dull and somber wall colors, lacks the warmth and elegance that I used to associate with the restaurant. The ambiance now feels flat and uninviting, which is a stark contrast to the vibrant and welcoming atmosphere I’ve enjoyed in the past. Secondly, the quality of service has noticeably declined. Staff seemed inattentive, and the overall service felt lackluster compared to previous years. I’ve come to expect a high level of hospitality, and unfortunately, that standard was not met. Regarding the menu, I was surprised by the limited options available. As a long-time guest, I have always appreciated the variety and creativity of your offerings. This year, however, I found myself having to order two chicken-based dishes for both my starter and main, as the fish option was underwhelming and did not meet the quality I’ve come to expect. The flavors were not as memorable, and it felt as though the culinary experience had taken a step back. Furthermore, the prices do not seem justified given the reduced quality and variety. It is disheartening to say that I will not be returning, as the Horn of Plenty no longer feels like the special place it once was. I hope you take this feedback constructively, as it comes from someone who has truly valued your establishment over the years. Thank you for taking the time to consider my comments, and I hope the Horn of Plenty can once again reclaim its status as a cherished gem. Warm regards, Norma Tako

Went here for a weekday birthday treat, wasn’t disappointed. It’s a lovely quaint old pub, the owner is very friendly and the food is excellent. And the night we were there there was ladies morris dancing in the street outside, which added to the atmosphere. The half duck is amazing, never had so much meat on a duck (owner said they’re locally reared), so nice, worth going back just for that dish. Will be back soon.

VERY SLOW SERVICE Waited over an hour for food when only 3 other people in there. Half the meals were not cooked 100% or were over cooked. What was cooked properly was tasty and enjoyable. A mixed review really and not as good as we expected.
