This is an absolute gem! Beautifully situated in a lovely Dartmoor village. The staff are friendly and helpful, there's a great selection of local ales and ciders in the bar - we had an excellent local cider with a wonderful dinner. The quality and presentation of the food is excellent. We stayed overnight in a lovely, comfy room and had a great breakfast too. If you're travelling with a dog the Globe is very dog friendly, with a doggie bed, bowls and even a jar of doggie treats.

One bar was noisy and one quiet. We chose the quiet smaller bar which was very comfortable and restaurant like. We both ate slow cooked lamb which was in a good sauce and fell off the bone easily. I had toffee pudding which i didn’t enjoy much and my wife had a creme brule she liked. With a soft drink and a pint of beer the bill came to £75.00. I preferred the Chagford Inn but this was an acceptable alternative of fairly similar standard.

Stayed at the globe for 1 night, we've been here a few times now. The room was fantastic (very comfy bed) and the service was great, really friendly staff behind the bar and at breakfast. Have to give a shout out as well for the really good vegetarian options on the menu, hard to get sometimes anywhere in Devon.

We found ourselves in Chagford for a while and after a walk came into the bar initially just for a drink. However the aroma of the Sunday lunch was too enticing for us to resist! Two of us had roast beef and one the pork. Each of them absolutely delicious and beautifully cooked. I particularly enjoyed the pork as it was soft and tender, and in lieu of apple sauce there was a baked apple, which was new to me and totally delicious. It's a dog friendly bar and the staff were happy to welcome our rather nervous dog with treats and a welcome smile. I wholeheartedly recommend the Globe Inn for a warm welcome and friendly atmosphere. A traditional pub with amazing food.

What a place! We love Chagford and this was our first overnight stay at The Globe Inn. The service was faultless, the food was top tier and the locals were so warm and lovely. The room was spacious, spotlessly clean and welcoming and the upstairs cinema room is also a real treat. We've already booked to stay again in August. A MUST visit if you're in the area.

We came for a family Sunday lunch with a good friend joining us there. The food was excellent and we were told the kitchen benefits from chefs who between them have training at the Ritz and the Savoy and who focus on traditional food cooked well. The two 80+ year olds in our party ordered a small size roast lamb, which was still pretty generously sized, and we two had the standard roast (a beef and a meltingly tender pot-roast lamb). The meat was absolutely delicious, the vegetables cooked to perfection. We only just managed to squeeze in a bread-and-butter pudding and a sticky toffee pudding between the four of us, also delicious. The service as excellent too: friendly, polite, good humoured and attentive without making us feel rushed. We enjoyed the food souch we came back for dinner for the last night of our stay in Chagford

Booked with a few hours notice for a table of three on a Friday evening which they accommodated. The pub is lovely, cosy and clearly very popular. Staff are extremely friendly and welcoming. We were a little disappointed when shown to our seats that we were told they had only a restricted menu due to deliveries not arriving. I struggled to choose from the limited menu being vegetarian. It would have been helpful to have been told this when we phoned up to make the reservation. My daughter and I chose a starter as our main and to be fair, it was nicely presented and tasted lovely. It just would have been nice to have more choice. We will definitely go back if we were visiting the area as clearly the pub is doing all the right things. It was just unfortunate the evening that we went, it had a small menu choice.

A friendly welcome was a good start with well kept Dartmoor ales. We only wanted a snack and being older find one baguette between us is enough especially as they are served with chips and a good portion of salad. Two side plates came without us asking. I have never been treated as badly by an establishment before. A group of 4 of us arrived at the pre-booked time and ordered drinks at the bar before our meal. The man that served us was very rude and off hand. He didn’t seem to care that we had travelled to the place especially to eat and drink in their establishment. We were told that there was a wait for food and that we should come back later if we were interested. But I then explained that we had booked a table for 4 at 7:00 pm…. I didn’t matted he said / it would be at least 8:45 pm before they could take an order. We left and went next door to another restaurant and sat outside in their courtyard. Why allow bookings and then not honour them ? Why treat customers like second rate citizens ? Why sell us drinks and then say you can’t take food orders ? I’m sorry - I don’t like leaving poor reviews, but others need to be aware just in case they also travel a distance and then end up being let down & disappointed. I will never return.

We returned to our room and tried again, but lady in charge said no. As staying in hotel we were both upset. We are older people that are very polite so went to another restaurant. Quite upsetting. Very busy and popular I think, so to be fair to them they have a lot of hard work. I don’t normally leave review, this is first, but saw others were not happy with service as well so left review.

When we arrived on Sunday evening for a meal the pub was practically empty. Greeted by a rude older male member of staff, who told us to sit down and he will bring menus. We sat outside in the small garden through the back of the pub. After several card games (around 20 minutes) no one arrived with the menus so one of our friends went to get some. They asked the same man, who gave them the menus and at the time asked if there were any dietary requirements. One of the party was a vegetarian so the friend said this to which the staff member replied “that’s not a requirement that’s just a lifestyle” loudly to the whole pub (all 6 or so customers) and then to be told there’s no vegetarian options available. The member of the party came back to tell us. As my partner (the vegetarian) had no options, other than maybe order some chips, we decided to try a different pub. As we were going to leave the man came over and asked for drink orders, we politely said that there was no options so we will have to try else where, to which he replied "right" and walked off. We ended up next door at the Three Crowns and had much better service, and more choices.

Pre booked and informed staff we had two dogs. Arrived slightly early in pub area and spoke to a local who liked dogs and others commented on how nice the two cooker spaniels were. Moved to another area for meal and one dog made a bit of noise - staff immediately asked if they could be quiet. After a couple of minutes and having ordered drinks, one dog barked slightly and staff told us that people in bar area were complaining about the noise and could we leave the dogs in our car. After asking for a sensible explanation which was not forthcoming the staff asked us to leave. We always use dog friendly establishments and have never had this type of treatment and would not expect it. This was the final night of our 40th wedding anniversary holiday your hospitality was much appreciated, not.

Before our long weekend to Chagford it became apparent you do need to book if eating out. As such on the day of our arrival we popped into the Globe as we walked past to see if they had a table that evening. We were informed they could fit us in at 20:45, no probs.Table was ready in the bar and we were asked for drinks and offered the short menu. The Steak and Ale pie looked tempting but we were concerned it might be too much as we'd had a late lunch. The pleasant young lady who served us informed us it was not too big but very tasty and "a proper pie, not just with a lid on top"!We were sold and both ordered the pie and we were sooo glad we did it was delicious, perfect shortcrust pastry, crammed with tender chunks of steak and the gravy that came with it; I could have drank a pint of!We opted for dauphinoise potato which were a bit too soft for my liking but that didn't detract from the pie.Until then the best pie I had eaten was as a Corporate Guest at a Queens Park Rangers match where the Executive Chef was Anton Mosimann (Google him). The Globe's pie is up there with a kitchen that is/was overseen by a Michelin Starred chef. Enough said!!So if the Globe makes their own pies, very well done. If they buy them in, don't ever be tempted to use another supplier!!

We had a very enjoyable 2 night stay.Mary and Graham were excellent hosts. The bed was comfortable, bathrooms clean. No bath just a shower but ok for 2 nights..( I love a soak after a long walk)Staff were all very jolly and friendly.Very nice food / Continental breakfast.Castle Drogo very close by and lots of great woods and walks.Terrific place for walkers, hikers mountain bikers...Nice atmosphere overall. The village is pretty with quirky old fashioned shops and other pubs and Inns...Church bells were lovely for us but might not be if you had a young baby.Parking only a short walk up the hill.No lift, so stairs it is to the room.

We very much had a nightmare evening here: We were 5 minutes late, rang ahead to let them know, and they told us they were giving away our table because they were busy. When we arrived the place was empty, and our table was free. The older woman then started to have a go at the person in our group who had made the booking, who was nearly in tears because of her. We were told we could either order starters, or mains, not both, and when we asked why we were treated with passive aggressiveness, and the older woman walked out of the room whilst talking to us. We had multiple drinks arrive tasting like chemicals that we had to send back. the younger members of staff who served us at different points in the night were lovely. All the meat-eaters really enjoyed their food, the veggie options were okay... but very big. We had two coeliacs (including myself), staff seemed very unsure as to what on the menu contained allergens. I ended up having THE WORST REACTION I'VE HAD IN YEARS from a 'gluten-free' dish. The older woman was entirely unsympathetic and made me feel guilty for how my body was reacting. Overall, we left feeling very put out, and I lost 2 days of my holiday recovering from this meal. I've never been to a meal where staff had made multiple customers cry before

Again, limited menu. What we had was nice and plenty of it. Much better atmosphere sitting outside on the road or in the grounds of the church listening to the local band playing.

Stopped for a family lunch, 2 adults and 2 children (and a cocker spaniel). The food was first class at no more than average pub food prices. Fresh, very tasty, well presented, couldn’t fault it. Service was also excellent, and the place had a great feel about it.I’d highly recommend this for a hearty pub lunch/ dinner. Hats off to the owners & staff.

A nice venue with a friendly feel that failed to live up to expectations.A fairly indifferent meal of a rather dry meat pie chosen from a very sparse menu choice (for those of us who still like meat on the menu). The real downer on the evening however came when the landlord asked if we would like dessert - My simple request for a 'floating' coffee was geeted with a very curt "NO"! Such rudeness makes me wonder if he shouldn't be looking for alternative employment

We enjoyed 3 really good suppers including a delicious Sunday roast. We were staying in a lovely Airbnb cottage a few steps away and loved the convenience. We found the young staff very attentive and helpful. The food was of a very high standard at very reasonable prices. We will certainly be returning perhaps for a winter B&B break .

Awesome atmosphere with a fire place. Gets busy in evenings so don’t forget to book your table as hotel guests have dinner in the restaurant too. Wide vegetarian and gluten free selection, GF beer available too! They don’t include service into the bill but a high tip is well deserved.

We were staying nearby at another inn for three nights, but ate at the Globe for two of them, partly because we favoured the menu, but as our first night in Chagford was a Sunday, they were doing an evening roast. We both had the roast beef which melted in the mouth, the roast potatoes were so tasty and a nice variety of vegetables which were cooked just right and al dente, we couldn't fault it. We returned the second night where I had crispy squid and whitebait in panko as I only needed a starter sized meal, and hubby had ham and chicken pie, again, both meals faultless. Eating there is highly recommended if staying in Chagford

The Globe Inn is one of my regular haunts. Graham and Mary run a good pub / restaurant / hotel and are involved in a lot of community events from Chagfilm annually to the monthly open mike nights.

Went for lunch today during Burger and Pie Week. We had a venison burger and a turkey burger, both were delicious. Great service from the young bartender. We heard her telling other guests she was only 16 but she was so confident and welcoming, even gave us a little taste of the cider before we ordered. Only room for improvement is that it was a little chilly, maybe light that lovely fire on a grey October day.
