Recent drove past this pub and it looked worth a visit so walked down to it today from Drewsteignton and so pleased we did. Fantastic pub, lovely fire, great beer/cider and really friendly barman and locals, what's not to like. Would definitely recommend to anyone in the area but please note they don't open til 4pm. Also a massive thanks to the owners for saving this amazing pub xx

Please update your website!!!! Still no food, even without a working kitchen I’m sure they could provide charcuterie or cheese boards, I can only imagine that the locals keep this place open, I do applaud the owners for keeping the place running but I think they could try harder, but times are tough.

We have driven past this Dartmoor gem on many, many occasions but had never stopped here because it was always closed when we come past. It doesn't open until 4 pm. This time we were at the right time and were glad we did stop. The interior is traditional moor style and has not been given a trendy makeover unsuitable for the venue as so many other pubs have been. The bar staff were very friendly as was the group of locals and we were directed to the rear beer garden which is delightfully wild, though a little steep for those who might not be as able as they once were. Most importantly we sampled a pint of very well-kept and cool Teignworthy Neap-tide bitter. The price was also a very welcome surprise. Now we know what to expect we will try and keep the Sandy Park on our list of regular haunts when we are next in their neck of the woods. Well done. They do not serve food at the moment .

Utterly splendid establishment featuring the entire spectrum of interesting rogues, eccentric legends and stalwart cohorts, set amongst a backdrop of cosy euphonious ambience and canine companionship. The fire is always on and the beer uniformly excellent. I will however comment on the fact the owner is rather lazy and has for three years neglected to update the online presence of this establishment to report the fact there is no longer food served at the Sandy Park. If beer and good company is something you enjoy - these delightful people will be more than happy to share an evening with you. If you're hungry however, have a drink here anyway. Why waste a perfectly good evening eating food when you could spend it having an existential crisis with several brand-new best friends? PS, there's also no rooms - another thing the surprisingly technically inept owner hasn't scrubbed from the interwebs... We all have our foibles I guess.

After my last review,i thought it would be the end for this pub, but, hurrah! and I'm eating Humble Pie now, it's back. Same old pub, but the warmth and welcome is back again, good beer, very nice wine and the most simplest of menus, pies and fries, what more could you ask for, certainly filling for all the walking to do in the area! A big 'Thank you!' goes out to the fabulous barman, who is wonderfully polite, cheerful, and helpful, i wanted a couple of champagne glasses to take out to our rental cottage to toast my husband's 70th birthday and I couldn't any anywhere, but he gave me a couple for free, most kind of him and now our Pol Rodger will taste better because of him. We popped in this pub for a drink and something to eat whilst we were staying in the area. We had read good reviews about it and weren't disappointed. Although on a cold wet Monday Evening in December, we were warmly welcomed, it was great to see the open fire lit and lucky enough to meet the owners who told us the story of them saving it from possible de-licensing. Well, we wish them all the best, these pubs are getting fewer and far between in this country and without people such as them, we won't have the traditional pub where you can have a good pint and simple but flavoursome food. Good luck in your venture we will be back when next in the area.

There's a new chef on the block by the name of Alex Millage and he can certainly pack flavour into a vegetable lasagne! Called in on a Sunday lunchtime and were impressed enough with the Leek and Lentil soup and the Garlic Mushrooms in Creamy Sauce to check the evening menu potential for a couple of vegetarians. Spoke to the engaging Alex, sucked our teeth a little at the pronouncement of "Vegetable Lasagne", but learning that he'd roasted the veg, made a roast pepper and tomato sauce (ie some thought and actual cheffing had gone into it) and that it was something of a signature dish for him, we booked up.It was great! And served with a nice salad of peppery dressed leaves with the addition of julienne cucumber sticks and red onion slices that had been lightly pickled. Nice touch and appreciated. We shared a Sticky Toffee Pudding with lots of sauce and cream for which the total bill was about £22 and great value. This is a local's pub some of whom are rather vociferous after a few pints, so not the quietest of places to eat at times, but it's a proper, real pub and we enjoyed our lunch and dinner.

We promised ourselves a return visit and yesterday we returned for lunch. We had not booked but as it was a sunny afternoon and we had our two dogs with us we ate outside. We both ordered the venison and were delighted at the presentation which was beautiful to look at. The venison was perfectly cooked with a sensational sauce and lovely cooked vegetables. We have visited this small pub many times over the years and until recently have been disappointed. It now seems that it has been taken over by a manager or tenant who has been in place for only a few weeks. The change is dramatic. Greated by a friendly welcome, a roaring fire and the promise of a good meal we settled in for lunch. We were not disappointed. The cook manager/landlord is obviously a kean fish chef. The food we chose was simple, well cooked and prepared fresh! No freezer re-heats here it seems. The manageress/ landlady was charming, friendly and eager to please. You have the usual selection of local loudmouths but they appeared friendly and not threatening as so often is the case in small West Country pubs. We have never stayed here so have no idea what the rooms are like but got the feeling that they are popular with people traveling too and from Cornwall and the west of Devon. We got the feeling is was very much more active and pub like in the evenings but as we only stopped for lunch we cannot judge. This is now a place we will visit regularly on our travels westward. We were close to giving it up but the new team have demonstrated an exciting willingness to make a go of this tiny outpost of Chagford and should therefore be supported.

Due to events beyond our control 6 of us arrived in this wonderful part of Devon many hours late, and with no evening meal plans. The hotel we were staying at nearby had finished serving and the kitchen had closed. They suggested we try the Sandy Park Inn. We arrived, read a notice which said dinner until 9pm (it was 8.45pm). One of our party went in and asked politely if there was any chance of dinner. The reply was a very angry "you can't just turn up with 6 people and no booking". The dining room was far less than half full. Our friend said we wouldn't expect the full menu, and apologised for the late hour. After a stunning rant from the staff member he was asked to leave - as our friend got back into the car the staff member was seen physically restraining a very angry looking chef. Just bizarre. You really couldn't make it up. Do not eat here - they do not want customers.

After miles of cars we walked from Castle Drogo through the woods in Dartmoor national park and there is no better place to find if you are a traveler, you hiked a lot and you want to have a real english country pub experience. This pub is really beautiful, there was a fireplace, a local talkative man who paid us a couple of beers and the barmaid, who said recently moved to Devon from Oxford was an amazing worker and girl :).

Went with 4 friends to Sandy Park Inn last Sunday, plus 2 dogs and sat in the snug. The roast lamb was amazing and the best veg ever experienced with a Sunday roast. Generous helpings of everything washed down by some Jail Ale. Perfect.

Sunday Lunch - 6th April 2014 Visited Sandy Park Inn for Sunday Lunch and had a lovely meal. My wife had the roast beef and I had the slow roasted lamb shoulder. Portions were a good size, plenty of vegetables (9 different types!) and our host was very friendly and helpful. For pudding we sampled the apple and plum crumble with custard, which was also very tasty. We followed this with coffee before departing. Service was prompt and the price was very reasonable coming in at £27 for the meal including drinks with the meal and coffees afterwards. The place is quite small and parking is not exactly easy, although there is room for four or five cars directly in front of the Inn. I have no doubt that we will return.

This place is an olde world gem, beautiful food, next to a real fire, comfy seating, great staff. Parking can be tight, but worth the walk. Steaks are excellent and a choice of lounge or dining room to eat.

Comfy, with a cheerful mix of local farmhands and City weekenders. Well-prepared pub food .. sample the lemon tart. The Chagford Well B&B within walking distance makes the good wine list even more enjoyable.

Brilliant room on the first floor - huge soft bed and newly redecorated bathroom. Very friendly staff and accommodating to our late arrival.

Great food, lovely people and drinks are amazingly cheap. £2.50 a pint for a well kept ale must be hard to beat.

My wife and I visited this pub and found it to be a friendly place. The parking is tight but manageable. We had some appetizers and wine and enjoyed them both.

I visited the sandy park twice and all though there was a crowd outside. inside the greating was amazing and the crowd made a fantastic atmosphere one of the best breaks away from home but made to feel very welcome. I would advise a visit just for the experience. You will not forget it.

We've enjoyed this pub on several occasions when staying in Drewsteignton nearby. The beer has invariably been well kept and the staff friendly and helpful.Last night we had a light supper of really delicious, buttery, leek and potato soup served with fresh bread and butter, and a slice of rainbow chard and cream cheese tortilla, with salad leaves which was also very nice indeed. The last time I had leek and potato soup was at Brasserie Blanc which I sent back for being completely flavourless. Not here!Dartmoor Brewery 'Jail Ale' is often on tap at Sandy Park and is a favourite of mine. I ordered a pint, and as the landlord pulled the first drop, he could tell it was nearly finished. Went to change the barrel and pulled a gorgeous frothy pint of ultra fresh ale. Fantastic!Great pub, well cooked and seasoned food and engaging service. Thank you.

Visited this pub with a friend who lives nearby, absolutely awful place. Clearly a very 'locals' pub as we drove passed the following 2 evenings and there were the same loud, crude mouthed people outside shouting and screaming in the street. Felt very sorry for the poor residents in the cottages across the road who must have to put up with that circus act every weekend. We moved inside which was dark, dismal and utterly depressing, no atmosphere whatsoever. Service was lacking friendliness and we weren't made to feel welcome at all. Couldn't wait to leave to be honest!

Found this place when in Oakhampton on a Saturday night and decided to go for take away cod and chips. Staff were friendly, service was good and the food freshly cooked to order. Good portions hot fresh and very tasty. Would certainly recommend it.

Went for lunch today during Burger and Pie Week. We had a venison burger and a turkey burger, both were delicious. Great service from the young bartender. We heard her telling other guests she was only 16 but she was so confident and welcoming, even gave us a little taste of the cider before we ordered. Only room for improvement is that it was a little chilly, maybe light that lovely fire on a grey October day.
