came to Tavistock to attend a military funeral, had a very pleasant stay at the Cornish, very friendly attentive staff . great rooms and food .

Always superb. Always our go to place for dinner with visitors and are never disappointed.

Food was superb, very very tasty - possibly the best vegetarian tart I've ever had - portion size was spot on too, not too much or too little - cannot rate the food enough! Elegantly decorated resturant, whilst maintaining a stylish south west beachy feel - friendly staff, dog friendly, good selection of gins - excellent food!! Didn't stay so can't comment on the rooms.

The pub is lovely and cosy, the food is amazing and the rooms are beautiful! . I have stayed a couple of times now the last being in one of the suite rooms. Proper luxury. Can't wait to come back. Finally the staff are all very friendly and courteous.

Upon arrival to check in for a nights stay we were greeted by a wonderful gentleman named Toshy ( sorry if the spelling is wrong!) We were shown to our room the Stag suite, a stunning room indeed. Later that evening we dined in the restaurant. The food, as always was amazing, simply delicious. In the morning we were greeted again by Toshy for our breakfast. The breakfast was the best we have ever eaten. The yoghurt with granola was amazing as was the cooked breakfast but this was all topped off with the absolutely perfect service by Toshy. This man is a credit to the hospitality industry, a pure delight. If only we could all find such wonderful staff 💕

Popped in for Dinner after an afternoon shopping and we were blown away with the food - just fantastic. The caramelised shallot butter with the house bread was delicious, as was the pate and haddock omelette, by now we'd realised we were in for a treat. Mains of lamb, sea bass and fillet steak were all wonderful, cooked to perfection and supported by sides and jus that added depth to brilliant food. We had to then go for some afters & the sticky toffee pudding and caramel delice did not disappoint. The staff were friendly and attentive, and overall this was one of the best meals we’d had in a very long time – highly recommended.

It is not often I'm impressed to this degree. This is a pub with rooms that is distinctly different. It oozes warmth and cosiness, with a vein of top quality service running right through it and the two are quite intoxicating! We booked late, having returned from Spain and requested a booking for dinner, a room and the ability to bring our small dog. This was seamless and was handled exactly as it should be. We were greeted by smiles and a genuine welcome, nothing fake, nothing too much trouble. Our table was reserved by the fire as requested and an offer of help with our bags. The bar was beautifully run, its tasteful country pub vibe draws you in. The room we stayed in was very well put together, quality bedding, furnishings and muted colours gave an instant relax, toiletries with real essential oils provided, these are locally made and a big difference from off the shelf products provided by even the very best of hotels! No dog bed, cheap dog treats of waste bags were left, which was just refreshing! Not only did this room deliver luxury wise, it was well thought out and 'worked' needless to say it was immaculately clean, The food.....well this was close to perfect, the steak one of the best I have had, cooked exactly right and the sauces were 'clever' rich but not too rich, just delightful! and the onion rings were the best I have tasted . The smoked haddock omelette championed the wonderful quality fish that was used and the vegetable tart was beautifully made with a salad that complimented it perfectly. Breakfast delivers on the same level, too which is rare!! Absolute class act of a gastro pub, thank you for the wonderful experience

Stopped in here for the first time as our bus home to Plymouth was cancelled, Was welcomed by a friendly barman who was happy to provide the gin menu and get us seated, the fire was lit and overall had such a lovely cosy warm atmosphere, if we hadn’t had lunch at spoons a few hours earlier would definitely have eaten here! Defo recommend 🥰

Ideal location parking outside the back great food really good good selection of food we did not stay there but spoke to others that where and they where impressed

On an incredibly rainy day we literally stumbled in here dripping wet. Bar staff attentive, host seated us promptly. The best Sunday lunch we have ever experienced. Simply delicious 😋 I had the beef, my husband had the pork. The best produce showed. An absolute treat. Thank you to the super team.

We only popped into the Cornish Arms for a bite to ear and it was very good,really nice place,good atmosphere ,the staff were very good and waitresses were exceptional and incredibly friendly,highlighting a short but good experience.we would call in again for sure . Thanks Nick , Ania and Nici.Ania has a Dartmoor guiding business and may well introduce Tavistock to her walks.The Cornish Arms would be an ideal place to go for her.

Had a fantastic dinner here. Food was great and the staff were very friendly and accommodating for our dietary requirements. Highly recommend.

Nice fish and chips excellent service

Was recommended by my brother in law who is a chef in Ireland. This is my second visit this year, and my go to now for food when staying in Bideford.

Excellent food, good service and dogs are allowed in the bar dining area. Good selection of dishes and good wine. Located in the city centre of Tavistock. I would advise to book to avoid disappointment.

Absolut zu empfehlen! Wir hatten zwar mit die teuersten Gerichte der Karte, aber das Essen war "absolut Oberklasse!!! Wir hatten als Hauptspeisen: 6oz Rindersteak mit Zwiebeln und gegrilltem Knoblauch und "Fritten". Das gebratene Lendchen mit Rote Bete. Beides war ein absoluter Gaumenschmaus!! Als Nachtisch gab es noch dark chocolate! Auch Geschmackserlebnis der besonderen Art, aber grandios! Der Service war tadellos. Sehr,sehr freundlich und hin und wieder kam immer jemand anderes und hat gefragt ob wir etwas benötigen! Essen gehen der gehobenen Klasse!! "Cornwell,yes"!!!

We had an amazing lunch at the Cornish Arms today. The food was completely delicious and the chef was brilliant at accommodating allergies that we had warned him about. Everything was beautifully presented, the wines by the glass were excellent, the service was attentive and everyone was kind to our dogs. They were also so kind and flexible about us being rather delayed en route. All in all a memorable meal; thank you.

I like the atmosphere, decor and outside area. Nice dogs are welcome. The food is nice but not cheap. There is a lovely menu if you dont want plain food, we only had chips and soup as the prices put off others in the party, but the sizes of portions of both were small. Not a proper sized bowl of soup which was delicious, nor enough to fill you up and the bread burnt and bitter. I feel they work hard on presentation amd all the little posh bits in or on it but fail to give good value for money. We walked out without feeling we had filled the hunger. We aren't greedy but disappointed, nice for a drink though.

Excellent food and service. We had 4 completely different mains which were all superb. One dessert also excellent. Everything was cooked and served to perfection. Not cheap but as the food was so good I think it was worth it. Great ambience. The dog was welcome too in the bar area with treats for her too! I plan to return.

Very good food, good service, really good garden (but no views). 3 starters, 1 main, 2 desserts, drinks & coffees £130. Highly recommend the limited time leek & blue cheese Arancini starter, the ox cheek main, the garlic prawns, and both desserts - the Eccles cake & Cashel blue, and the Chocolate Delice with peanut brittle. Nice staff who were friendly, prompt, and knowledgeable

We didn't eat but was good for a cold pint on a hot day. Viewing the menu we thought it was quite expensive for a pub lunch.

My pork chop served with chip & sauce, no veg or salad was very much over priced at £28.95. When removing the fat & bone quite a small piece of meat was available to eat We waited 50 mins for the meal to be served with no apologies for the delay. Not good value for money for the amount of food served . I won’t be returning to this pub again, prices far to high compared with other up market pubs.

Exactly what a gastro-pub should be. Top notch food and great service, with an informal and relaxed ambience. Had a quite excellent lunch here today, at an extremely fair price. The staff were welcoming, helpful and attentive, and the food really was delicious. Thoroughly recommended if you're visiting Tavistock. (If you live here I'm sure you won't need the recommendation). Top tip - The Mango souffle was divine.

Me and my partner, been there before lovely food, staff nice, what else can tou wish for... we had Sunday lunch, I had small Sunday, and I must say it was a big portion. For the starter was Prawns, which was gorgeous as well.

Slightly up market in terms of price. But definitely worth it for a treat. Went here for my wife's birthday. The food was incredibly well cooked and flavoursome. Lives up to it's reputation.

A top notch gastro pub with a Michelin bib. They have a temptingly varied menu. Portions are on the small side, but the quality is first rate. Prices are on the high side, but you do get a great dining experience. They have rooms too if you are looking to stay in lovely Tavistock. Love to Wander

We ate at The Cornish Arms, fantastic food and excellent service

We where here Yesterday, we ordered a ploughman's sharer for 2 priced at £24.50. This place is NOT value for money! 2 thin slices of Stilton cheese and 4 small salarmi slices for 2 people @ £24.50. When asking about the scotch egg to the manager, we where told, 1 scotch egg is priced at £9.50. Place is a rip off, save your money and stay away!

We only ate at the Cornish Arms. It's one of the few places open between lunch and dinner in Tavistock, which we found surprising. Food and service was lovely.

This is a lovely Restaurant/Pub, great staff, fantastic food and really good beer. My wife and I used this pub both for food and several times just for a drink. They have a lovely beer garden at the rear of the pub, also a restaurant and bar meals and snacks.

Fantastic Pub. Rooms were amazing service was 5 star. The food was Mitchalin standard. All in all a wonderful stay.

We were passing through having spent a hard day's sightseeing. We were made to feel welcome. We ordered supper.Service was good. We ordered a curry and a beefburger. Both were excellent and not overpriced. Thank you!

We booked a table today as we were in the area, I was a little nervous reading some of the reviews but we had a great time, food was spot on and the staff were really friendly. Plenty of available parking and dog friendly too 👌🏻 would definitely come back again

Amazing service and food! Had the pleasure of staying overnight at this superb gastro Inn, received a warm welcome from Steve who showed us to our beautifully appointed room, which was spotless and extremely comfortable. Our meal was simply delicious, every course. Extremely courteous and friendly staff, we will be back!

Really super food, good service at the bar and a great range of wines, beers and spirits. You pay the right price for quality... also has a pleasant patio area at the back.

We visit the Cornish Arms from time to time and it seems to be even better each time. The service is efficient, friendly and thoughtful and seems very natural. The restaurant is comfortable and the tables close together but not cramped. We tend for visit for the Sunday lunch which is delicious: well cooked, well presented and just the right-sized portions. Today we had the pork which has two different cuts both juicy and cooked perfectly. The sides are made and presented beautifully and theres even extra gravy! There’s a wide range of drinks as you’d expect from a pub. Dog-owners are seated in the bar area. The whole experience is just lovely and great value for money.

If you’re ever anywhere near Tavistock in Devon, go to the Cornish Arms in West Street… absolutely superb! My roasted loin of cod with a dill bernaise sauce in a peppercorn bisque was unbelievable and the accompanying chips were possibly the best I’ve ever had! Whilst I can’t personally verify, my wife enthused equally about her fillet of moorland beef! Our main courses were so good, I almost forgot to mention our starters, which were a ham hock scotch egg and a duck liver pate with candied hazelnuts and toasted brioche respectively, both wonderful. They came second in the Gastro Pub Awards this year, but I struggle to believe they didn’t win! And, by the way, the service is also excellent!

Arrived 5mins before open through open door was told in a very condescending manner we’re not open yet. !! Made to feel very uncomfortable. Won’t be returning.

Wow the food was out of this world. Staff so attentive , service great. Can't wait to go again. We only had a main course and coffee but the portions were just the right size.

Beautiful Sunday lunch. We had the roast sirloin with brisket of beef and slow braised ox cheek. Lovely pub, great staff and service, fabulous food. I would highly recommend and we are definitely going back!

Service is always friendly and efficient, food is very good quality. Gastropub menu. It’s often very busy in the evenings and at the end of the week so best to book. We have stayed overnight before and the room was great. Sometimes we’ve just popped in for a drink. Steak was excellent, fish and chips and a very good soufflé for pudding. An excellent local pub

The food we had last night was honestly some of the best food I've ever had. From start to finish we were blown away with the quality and flavour. Even the crockery and tableware compliments the style of the food. We decided to stay to complete the evening and I'm so pleased we did. Beautiful linens and decor. We will definitely be returning and thanks to all staff for an incredible stay.

Had a beautiful Sunday roast lunch, we travelled from Exeter to Tavistock to try the roast and it did not disappoint, we heard it had amazing reviews and we would give it 5/5 too. Everything was full of flavour, loads of pork and beef served, I’d only say it’s a pity the sticky toffee pudding isn’t very photogenic as it looks more like a beef burger, with a roast caramelised parsnip on top and the butterscotch sauce looks like lard, thank goodness it tasted incredible, not bad at all£65 for two courses with 2 cokes. We would definitely return

Easter Sunday lunch. Excellent quality food, friendly staff, great choice of food (not too much as in some places). Not a fan of dogs in where I’m eating, especially when they start to fight! Maybe they’re not allowed in the actual restaurant area, we were in the bar to be fair.

We were staying in the area and went for dinner here. Absolutely fantastic! One of the best fish and chips we ever had. The dessert was delightful. Excellent service, too! We'll certainly come back.

Visited for lunch. Amazing experience. We both had the pulled beef arancini to start. This has an amazing effect on me: it actually lowered my heart rate. Honestly, I felt overcome with a calmness that was beatific. The main course was roast beef/ brisket. Again, amazing. My other half had pork which, by all accounts was fantastic. A large gin and tonic to start. A large glass of montepulciano to accompany the beef and my other half had a beer. £84. Superb

We stayed here for one night and had an evening meal on our way to Cornwall. What a lovely place, the room was so comfortable with a super king size bed and a huge bathroom with walk in shower and a free standing copper bath. We had an evening meal and boy what a real treat that was. My wife had beef brisket and cheese croquettes with Jalapeno mayo, this was rich and tasty. I had a Venison ragu raviolo with parmesan and a bone marrow and parsley sauce which was light but packed a meaty punch. For mains I had Roasted saddleback pork chop with gentlemans relish and hispi cabbage, the pork was so soft and flavoursome, the hispi cabbage had a slight char and was delicious My wife had the Venison loin with beetroot tartar and pommes anna. all wonderfully cooked and sublime I then had a lovely sticky toffee pudding with banoffee icecream, all this was washed down with a lovely Portugese Alvarinho. After a relaxed sleep we were treated to a hearty breakfast all done with the same attention to detail that we had the night before and served by a very pleasant guy. This is definitely a place to recommend if you want a gourmet treat but without all the stuffiness of most high end restaurants

That was some, if not the best food I’ve had in the SW. Just so good. Room was awesome, staff were great. What more can you want.

We booked well in advance, so it’s not as if we were walk in’s. Starter & drinks arrived in good time and were very nice. But then we waited well over 1/2hr for our main course. People around us had received 2 courses during our wait. I’m guessing it was sat on the pass during that that time. I had pork, it wasn’t as good as I’d expected. Carrots were tasteless, pork a little tough. The only star on the plate was the crackling. So disappointed - unlikely to promote or return. When asked if we were happy and I commented that i wasnt, a mere brush off comment of “I’ll inform the chef”. Not good enough folks

You know you are in for a good evening when, instead of trying to flog you a round of drinks before you have barely sat down, the waiter says, 'Here's the menu, you make yourselves comfortable, and I'll be back in a minute or two to see if there is anything you would like.' The three of us had different starters, different main courses and different puddings. Everything was great. Not the cheapest, but a lovely evening.

It was very quiet on arrival, which raised a concern. However, once we got the table and menu from the waitress..... No Problem. Service was fantastic. Food was served fresh, hot, and looked amazing before we touched it. This visit was unplanned, but the next one will be booked in advance as its so good

Food was out of this world and cannot recommend highly enough! The pub itself is beautiful, warm and inviting. The staff friendly and very attentive. I just wished we lived locally...we live nearly 2 hours away....but if we are in the area again,we will definitely be returning! The photos do not do the food justice

Impeccable. The Cornish Arms is a wonderful establishment. I've eaten here a number of times and will always come back for the food, which is always incredible. Having stayed recently, the experience surpassed my high expectations. The team will brighten the dullest of days and the rooms are absolutely on point.

The food is very special at this friendly pub in the centre of Tavistock. All of the courses were of an exceptionally high standard. Far above what you would normally get in a pub. The fish and chips were superb and very different from most restaurant offerings. The cooking team clearly knows what it is doing. Thoroughly deserves its Michelin Bib Gourmand. Highly recommended.

Overnight stay in this lovely friendly pub. Beautiful room with a huge bathroom including a copper bath. Large comfortable bed and lots of lovely finishing touches such as fresh milk for tea/coffee. Didn’t eat here as we went to the ‘sister’ pub The Blacksmiths (fantastic) but came back afterwards for drinks. Group of us sat around two tables enjoying drinks and some laughter while being looked after by the fantastic staff. In fact every member of staff was friendly and helpful. Fab breakfast the following morning. Will definitely return.

Just returned from a one night stay with dinner reservation. while we have dined before we had not stayed, the room was excellent with great touches. The bed was extremely comfortable and we have a great nights sleep. Dinner was excellent loved all the meals we had, I absolutely loved my starter of the onion soup it was fabulous. The best Cornish breakfast as well! Most importantly is the excellent service received by every staff member, It was a wonderful evening and stay! Thank you all x

When you arrive at The Cornish Arms, Tavistock on a busy Saturday evening and realise you managed to book The Cornish Arms in Padstow by mistake (don’t ask!) you could be forgiven in thinking that your Saturday evening was about to go downhill. That was until the legend, Steve managed to squeeze us in to a table in the bar area. What followed was the most delicious meal. Every course was served by friendly staff and presented immaculately. Both of us loved every course. I can’t recommend The Cornish Arms (Tavistock!) enough.

My wife's birthday meal, lovely attentive Staff, wonderful meal, and priced just right. My 7 year old is a huge seafood fan and loves watching Rick Stein programs with us as a family. He was super excited even sucking the prawn heads like he's seen Rick do! We had prawns mackerel pate and deviled liver to start, 2 pondicherry currys, and the lad had the squid, all lovely. I didn't catch the names of our two servers, but they were both lovely and informative, and I would definitely come back. Thank you for all lovely meal.

This place is impeccable! The food is next to none!!! I had the scotch egg for starters the other day and I was blown away by how amazing it was!!! I've never had anything like it in my life! The chef deserves a medal!

A great stay. Lovely rooms with inclusive cooked breakfast of excellent quality. The Inn is central with on site parking. Foofdat lunch or dinner is varied and locally sourced. Highly recommend.

Really beautifully decked out. Fantastic open fire. All the staff were so helpful and efficient. We didn’t eat there but were very tempted when we saw the other patrons dishes turning up - the food looked delicious. We will definitely return . Nice and clean...

New Years Eve meal. I was very surprised to get a table on new years eve as I'd left it late to book somewhere. Was thrilled to get a table and the food and service did not disappoint. I had the pate to start and the chicken curry for my main. Both were lovely, the chicken curry was delicious and one of the best curries I've ever had. I did have a dessert of pear and apple trifle but I really didn't need it as I was full but this was also very good . Service was excellent. Will definitely be back .

Nice place but ridiculously overpriced drinks and arrogant management, nothing special but think they can over charge for drinks as there are few alternatives in Tavistock, go over the road to Wetherspoons, a shame because they accept dogs but have the arrogance of being overpriced and thinking that it's some kind of ' special place but it's not

Firstly the food is absolutely amazing though not cheap. The staff are very polite and can’t do enough to make your dining experience the best it can be. The rooms are so nice especially if you have one of the big rooms with the freestanding baths. Location is fab right in the centre of Tavistock and only a cpl of miles and you are deep on Dartmoor. All in all perfect

Not only is the food faultless (amazing vegan options) the staff know exactly how to make a solo female diner feel safe and welcome. The fire was blazing, the music not too loud, the service considerate and helpful. I really enjoyed my first solo meal...

Very tasty and crispy beer battered haddock, chips and minted mushy peas. However, the sauce provided was not very tasty. I would have preferred tartare sauce. Service was excellent. Staff were friendly. The pub had a cosy ambience.

We went for lunch on a weekday, so the place was not packed and service was prompt and friendly. The fish and chips were excellent. The batter was crispy covering nicely cooked fish. Chips were tasty, mushy peas ok. A family member had the burger...
