Kempley's Catch in West Devon

From review I thought that here is the best fish and chips in town. But that is not truth. Very medium quality and taste. Another place was much better.

I'm all for supporting local businesses and I understand things have gone up, but nearly £4 for a large bag of chips that looks like a small and cold is a joke its daylight robbery, curry sauce is that weak, no flavour and also cold, if you want to buy the kids some chips for tea I would think about doing overtime at work to pay for it, won't be returning as its not the first time. Staff are nice and polite.

Great food and staff fish to die for , can't recommend enough

Got there 10mins before closing and was told whatever i want they will cook it fresh. Only had pie and chips but it was fantastic 😍. Definitely visiting again when I'm working in the area. It's even worth the journey from where I live in Cardiff. Great value as well.

Went to this Chippy based on good reviews given. They were right. The chippy itself is small in a Okehampton back street with a small seating area. It was very busy on arrival, but we can understand why. The Fish & Chips & Scampi & Chips bought were fresh cooked & well cooked & tasted superb. Can thoroughly recommend.

The staff are always very friendly & welcoming here which is lovely and the food is great...especially the fried halloumi YUM! If only the chips were bigger portions, it would have been 5 stars !! 🌟

Live locally, but hadn't been to Kempleys for many years. Really glad i returned. Batter is light and not at all greasy, and the large cod was perfectly cooked. Chips were crispy but fluffy inside. Overall this is really good fish and chips.

Please avoid. The worst fish and chips I've had in 25 years. Go to Graylings instead if you're looking for a chippy in Okehampton. I visited this takeaway for the first time today and I won't be coming back. I ordered x2 haddocks and a large chips for my wife and I to share and it was incredibly disappointing. I was handed 3 hot packages without a bag, nor was I offered one. A bad start, but there was worse to come. The chips were very oily and had an unpleasant earthy taste to them. The fish batter was all stuck to the paper so clearly wasn't cooked with hot enough oil. The flesh of the fish was incredibly dry and bland that even our cat turned her nose up at the haddock. Assuming of course I was actually given haddock. All this for the princely sum of £21. It's not often that I leave a review but this terrible experience warrants one.

Great place to get fish and chips. Lots of choice and all cooked fresh. An added bonus for us northerners was they sold baked beans!

What a great fish & chip shop! Really freshly done lightly battered fish & lovely chips. Very nice staff & eat in for takeaway price. Can’t praise this place highly enough! I hope that the residents of Oakhampton know how lucky they are! I’m not local to the area but visit regularly, & when back again will definitely visit as my fish & chips where the best I’ve had for ages.

Lovely staff and ALWAYS the best chips ever. The test is finding them delicious without adding sauce or extra vinegar. They do delicious curry sauce but I love the taste of their chips so much that I have them just as they are. Even if I am desperately craving chips, if Kempley's isn't open, it's just not worth going elsewhere. Kempley's chips are always worth the wait.

Really shocked to be honest at the size of the large portion of chips. I respect and appreciate that high operating costs are driving retail prices higher, however, there is absolutely no need to reduce the portion size, to that of less than a standard portion equivalent somewhere else. I have never experienced such a poor portion size for price. I can only hope that the young person serving got the portion size wrong, although he confirmed, and charged me for a large portion. The chicken fillet burger was also very thin and far too small for the bap. I have had many fillet burgers (even frozen ones from Iceland) that are far generous. Given the other glowing reviews of this chip shop, I either went in on a "bad day" or I can speculate that portion sizes are the subject of 'shrinkflation'. Luckily, there are a couple more chip shops locally that offer better value for money and as a paying customer I have the privilege of not returning to Kempley's. Very disappointed and underwhelmed. I can stomach higher prices because I understand the challenges that retailers are experiencing, however, I cannot take being blatantly ripped off.

We visited oakhamton park with the kids, and decided we was hungry so went to kempleys. We are from Exeter so have a big choice of fish and chips around our area!! But this place is amazing and beats any place we have been too. The fish is outstanding and I was also shocked how cheap it was to be honest. Really friendly staff who told me they had been there 28 years, and I can see why.

I was stopping locally about two weeks ago and a local person recommended it. I was amazed to find out that eating in prices are the same as the takeaway prices. Ordered standard cod, small chips and a cup of tea. Sat down in the restaurant and had the best I have ever tasted. I’ve had fish n chips in Whitby, Brixham and in the midlands where I live and this is the best I have ever had. Staff were friendly and welcoming. The restaurant is comfortable, clean and nicely furnished.

My husband went to this fish shop 8/12/22 and I had chicken and chips, The chicken potion was disgusting it was dry and inside because it was( well over done)cremated on the outside I had to throw it away with high food prices as they I can’t afford to throw money away, owner wasn’t around because he was poorly…Never again have chicken, I should have taken it back!!!!

Just popped in here for a quick cod and chips after a long day travelling. Good location in centre of Okehampton. They have a small, well kept dining area - after you place your order in the takeaway the very friendly staff bring it round. Tasty and fresh, a good cup of tea too! Only in Okehampton for one night but would definitely come back if I was staying for longer.

I can only give my opinion on the chips from this establishment as they are all I sampled. The title sums it up, today we bought some take away chips and they were awful. The large portion was only the size of standard elsewhere and cost £3.20!!! They were very greasy, pale and flabby..the picture I have attached tells it all. Will never go there again.

Popped in for cod and chips and a coffee on a cold January Saturday afternoon. Was pleasantly surprised to find out you could eat-in for no extra cost which was most welcome considering the cold evening. Good food and service and the eat-in option is a good idea.

We arent big fish n chips eaters, maybe a couple of times each month .... and we were even less so after trying the fish and chip shops here in our nearest town. adequate ... ish .. but a couple of years ago we were in Okehampton at one of the larger supermarkets and afterwards we called at Kempley's Catch for a takeaway... what lovely fish and chips they are ... the staff are always pleasant and usually we are greeted with a "hello Gail" from behind the mask and our order is waiting for us ... lovely people and lovely food ... So now it has become a regular trip up to Okehampton from the Launceston area to visit the supermarket and afterwards call at Kempley's Catch..

Used Kempleys Catch when we were on holiday and staying at a barn conversion in Okehampton It’s down a side street off the high street . It looks like it’s in someone’s house not your usual looking Chip shop. But coming from the Midlands where we think ours are the best I have to say the staff were so friendly and the Fish and Chips were mouthwatering. Big portions and three Fish and Chips came to around £21. Best I’ve eaten in a long while . If your in Okehampton check this establishment out.

오크헴튼에서 가장 좋아하고 자주 가는 피쉬앤 칩스 테이크 아웃. 너무 맛있어서 계속 생각나는 곳이에요. 처음 영국에서 피쉬앤 칩스를 먹는거라면 mushy peas 라고 초록색 콩을 으깨서 만든 소스인데 같아 먹으면 정말 맛있어요 !! 커리소스는 3분카레같은 소스에요. 감자튀김도 바로 튀기고 식초랑 소금이 뿌려져서 너무 맛있어요.오크헴튼에 한국인은 저 혼자지만 혹시나 다른 한국인들이 보신다면 정말 추천드립니다! 이웃들 사이에서도 위생이 청결하고 맛있기로 소문난 곳이에요 !!

My partner and I went in this evening for dinner fish chips and stake and kidney pie and chips, absolutely delicious, staff are very friendly, and the lady behind the counter was just amazing very helpful and understanding, I asked for a mask as I had forgot mine, and she gave us a mask, such a lovely place will defo go back again

Family run, and it shows in the care taken from start to finish. Everything cooked to order, nothing sat for hours in the hot cupboard. Very good range of item on the menu as well.

We went to this chippy on a Friday and we had to wine outside in the rain for over half an hour but we found it fun,A lot of people were moaning. We ordered our food and it was cooked fresh to order, the fish, chips and mushy peas were the bear I’ve had, the only criticism is the gravy as I’m from the north we like our gravy and we found it very watery so we threw the gravy away. But overall great experience

Kempleys Catch has a seating area, chips were good and the fish was great, personally I didn't enjoy the batter.

We pop to Kempley's quite regularly everything that I have tried here has been great it's all cooked fresh the menu is quite extensive and includes vegetarian options which makes a nice change. We usually have take away but have eaten in the restaurant beforeThe staff are so friendly you are made to feel very welcome I would recommend Kempley's to everyone the restaurant is a very good alternative to take away.The chippy is so popular be prepared to queue but believe me it is worth the wait for freshly cooked food and very reasonable prices.
