Just had dinner. So disappointing compared to previous visits (we live next door). Food was uninteresting, service dropped off completely and cost was exorbitant for what we received. Also requests to change or turn off the ghastly wailing music were not responded to promptly. We were 2 of only 6 covers for the whole evening. We did bag the woodburnerside which compensated.

We came here for dinner a couple of months ago and had a lovely time. The food was good, albeit quite expensive and the service was very good. We were the only people in there all evening which was a worrying sign but it was all pretty good! I would go back if in the area, although wouldn't go out of my way to go there.

Pub was very nice and cosy, and the food was decent however the prices and portion sizes were pretty disgusting and felt robbed to be honest. £18 for a beef burger and £9 for a pate starter which was the size of one bite was pretty poor. It is a real shame as the pub itself is amazing and staff were lovely and friendly.

We ate at the Chagford Inn this time last year whilst we were on holiday locally and enjoyed an outstanding meal. So we were really looking forward to our meal there this time around. How disappointed we were. Firstly I would like to say how lovely the front of house staff were. Very friendly and helpful. However the food wasn’t so great. Hake on a stew of chickpeas, chorizo and red peppers sounded delicious. In reality it was as if the chef had just opened a can of chickpeas, added some cubed chorizo and cooked red peppers and thrown them on a plate. Tasteless and watery - quite unpleasant after a few mouthfuls. And the hake was over cooked and dry, heading towards cotton wool texture. My partner ordered the burger which was very dry and overcooked, with fries that weren’t very pleasant either. We didn’t bother to stay for a dessert. Maybe, just maybe, it might have been understandable if the restaurant was super busy but it wasn’t! This is probably the most expensive of the several places to eat in Chagford. Last year it was worth every penny. This year, sadly, not so much.

Smallest meals we have ever been served anywhere and we eat out a lot in expensive tourist places so lots to compare .. pork belly is normally a favourite but was literally around 1 inch by 1 inch ie. 2 small mouthfuls of almost entirely fat accompanied by two small mouthfuls of dauphinoise and half a small carrot a 6 mouthfuls meal in total at the princely sum of £21 for a main course. It took us 5 minutes to eat and the flavours were mediocre so we didn’t even bother to stay for pudding. Even if it had been a starter we would have been thinking it was small but as a main it was disgraceful.. Either they have become greedy since earlier reviews or they thought here are a couple of tourists we can fleece.. Either way we wont be back. I don’t like writing reviews like this but it really was infuriating. We were on one of our regular visits to Chagford .. the farmshop cafe the Folkhouse cafe and the Three Crowns are all excellent options

We have visited Chagford Inn twice now, and both times have been exceptional. They menu is always changing, and what they serve depends purely on what local ingredients they can source that week. The food is local, fresh, full of flavour. We have had the a la carte menu, and also the Sunday lunch. Both times have been equally as good as one another. I really cannot recommend this place enough! The staff are lovely and so attentive. We made a whole day of it and did a lovely walk at fingle bridge and castle drogo, only 15 mins from this gem of a place.

We chose the Chagford Inn from a choice of 4 pubs in the village as it had won some awards. As a vegetarian there was very little choice, I chose ‘ charred cauliflower with butter beans and sundried tomatoes. When it arrived it was as disappointing as it sounded, the size of a starter, a small piece of cauliflower that had no flavour, 3 pieces of tomato and about 8 butter beans , not in a sauce no herbs, no flavour, really disappointing. It wasn’t a coherent dish, and not cheap at £16. My partner had the pork belly dish which he said was not memorable. We won’t be returning , as it was expensive and the food was a real let down.

We stayed the night in the annexe (comfortable, with high quality products provided, and although it was 'room only', there was cereal and fruit available - very much welcomed by hungry walkers. We ate in the restaurant and it was a highlight of our ten-day trip - absolutely superb food. It is very seasonal and dependant on local supply, so the menu probably changes often, but we can heartily recommend their rabbit ravioli, lamb 3 ways and ragu with polenta. The place is family run and you could sense the commitment to making it a success. Wonderful - and I hope they get the Muddy Stilettos award they were nominated for.

Consistent and great! We came last year for a lovely delicious meal and booked again for this holiday, having noticed that it was up for awards, I thought “here we go, awards equal putting the price up “, but so far so good, no major price increase but still amazing quality and deliciousness, pigs head scrumpet, delicious! Venison cooked to perfection and the chocolate/coffee tart was just excellent, I had to have the cheese and that was just fabulous, helford blue, plums with a wonderful spicy French bread, it’s Christmas on a plate! I sincerely hope with all the accolades this place is getting it won’t start pricing itself out of my range. So many restaurants start accumulating awards and the real genuine foodies can’t afford to visit any more. Rant over, but the food here is just so, so good, thanks!

Maybe I should have popped over to the Spar to get some gravy granules?! Come on #chagfordinn - for £19 surely we vegetarians deserve gravy?!

Would like to have been more positive- the imaginative use of local ingredients etc, but it was bit mixed. Bresaola and mussels were terrific. Pigs trotters impressively wobbly but weirdly tasteless. Plaice a bit fluffy and buried under more capers than any human could eat. Better than pub grub but not quite the fine dining they are aiming for, sadly.

We heard her telling other guests she was only 16 but she was so confident and welcoming, even gave us a little taste of the cider before we ordered.
