Excellent food, great service, and a warm, engaging pub. You can bring your well behaved dogs. We come regularly and love it every time.

The best light lunch I've had in a long time!!! Homemade corned Beef on toast, with a perfect fried egg, fabulous. Was quiet when I visited during a week day lunchtime, but a cracking pub that'll I'll definitely check out again one evening. Dog friendly too

Popped in for lunch twice in two weeks while looking at property in the area. I had the mussels and beef brisket, and my husband had beef and polenta and also mussels. The pub is lovely: independent feel, nice decor, great service; and staff also play good, ambient music. Food was all delicious, especially the mussels and wine was excellent too. Had Christmas special menu, the food was sublime! There were 4 of us and not one of us could fault any course. Amazing produce and flavours, this is a ‘must’ destination if you come to Chagford. Cocktails were excellent too!

This is a review of the "Chinn's" restaurant. Our dinner was highlighted by pub-ish ambience and superb service thanks to Jack. House-special olives (large green and black) were followed by shredded corned beef over toast topped with a smiling fried egg. Different and delicious. Overall A++ experience.

My wife's birthday was made extra special - and tasteFull - with a dinner at the "Chinn." Classic British village setting / ambience and local good cheer to match. Catch of the day as fresh as they are caught; the corned beef on toast topped with a fried egg superb. Our host, Jack, was the epitome of cordiality. Extra kudos to whomever prepares the bread -- with just a touch of sweetness. Happy to recommend!

Excellent roast beef Sunday lunch which was amazing value. The venison pie was packed with flavour and dessert was delicious. The service was really friendly and they were very accommodating of our dogs. Will definitely return.

Consistent and great! We came last year for a lovely delicious meal and booked again for this holiday, having noticed that it was up for awards, I thought “here we go, awards equal putting the price up “, but so far so good, no major price increase but still amazing quality and deliciousness, pigs head scrumpet, delicious! Venison cooked to perfection and the chocolate/coffee tart was just excellent, I had to have the cheese and that was just fabulous, helford blue, plums with a wonderful spicy French bread, it’s Christmas on a plate! I sincerely hope with all the accolades this place is getting it won’t start pricing itself out of my range. So many restaurants start accumulating awards and the real genuine foodies can’t afford to visit any more. Rant over, but the food here is just so, so good, thanks!

Had lunch here with my wife. Young lady serving was excellent and very attentive. Best burger I’ve ever had bar none. Wife’s Venison was “melt in mouth good”, and the wines were top notch. With starter, £62 for lunch. Absolute steal for food of this quality with great service. This is on our list of revisits to do. Thanks to you all.

Waited a long time for an average meal. One of the staff members extremely rude, although this was slightly reprieved by a very nice waitress who I think was slightly embarrassed by the whole situation. I'm unlikely to recommend.

As it’s local reputation goes ‘Slow, expensive, but good food’. We had Sunday roast - my husband had the beef, I had the vegetarian option. I was v annoyed that the only gravy available was beef gravy. For goodness sake, how difficult is it to make vegetarian gravy?! Maybe I should have popped over to the Spar to get some gravy granules?! Come on #chagfordinn - for £19 surely we vegetarians deserve gravy?!

Having booked a table for two at 12 o'clock we arrived early at 11.40am. This was not a problem and we were warmly greeted. A good selection of ales and ciders are available. I had the slow cooked belly pork and my husband went for a pea and courgette risotto. The meals arrived promptly and were delicious. The portions were perfect. The roast came with 5 different veg and apple with the pork. All were cooked to perfection. The pork itself melted in the mouth and was the tastiest I can remember eating!

We stayed for one night and it was perfect. Lunch was super delicious, the room rustic,spotlessly clean and very comfortable bed, excellent sleep. Dorothy on front of house was lovely, friendly and welcoming. A quaint and pretty village pub to stay, highly recommended. Chagford is a perfect,small country village/little town in spectacular countryside.

Fresh local food & great service. A family meal with our teenagers. The food beautifully presented and really fresh. They accommodated my vegan/coeliac daughter without fuss. A lively yet welcoming atmosphere on Saturday night, dogs welcome too.

Wonderful food, well cooked with lots of interesting flavours. From the outside it is very unassuming but I would wholeheartedly recommend this as a place to eat.

We stayed in Chagford for a week and ate here several times. Sunday dinner, Fowey mussels and Burgers. I believe the meat is sourced locally and the handmade burgers were fabulous! Great choice of drinks on offer in a cosy setting with a sunny rear garden, very nice 😊

Would like to have been more positive- the imaginative use of local ingredients etc, but it was bit mixed. Bresaola and mussels were terrific. Pigs trotters impressively wobbly but weirdly tasteless. Plaice a bit fluffy and buried under more capers than any human could eat. Better than pub grub but not quite the fine dining they are aiming for, sadly.

Friendly warm country pub with great food. We went here for Sunday roast after a long walk and didn't disappoint. Our dog was well catered for as they came and gave him some biscuits which he was most pleased with! Roast was a decent size with massive Yorkshire puddings and good value. Good selection of drinks at the bar.

Absolutely delicious meal. We read the menu and immediately knew the chef understands food, so we ordered the pigs head terrine to start and then liver and bacon (him) and venison Ragu (me). Both were absolutely delicious, delivered promptly and with friendly service. We followed up with the Rum Baba and Cheese Scone. This is excellent food, well cooked and locally sourced. You will be delighted.

We saw some excellent reviews and had high hopes for our dinner. However the food did disappoint. My husband's sauce was lacking flavour and was a bit watery and my venison Ragu and polenta was massively over seasoned and peppery making it unpleasant to eat. we just felt it was trying to serve up restaurant style food it couldn't deliver on. We did have a second night booked for dinner during our stay locally but decided to cancel

Stopped for lunch while on the road. An unexpectedly delicious lunch! The menu has some Italian influences which are perfectly executed. All the ingredients are local and the plates were carefully thought out, tasty and filling. The meat was tender and melted in your mouth. Our highlights included the hake, braised beef, venison ragù and chocolate delice (pictures below). The service was also warm and welcoming. Not a single complaint- I highly recommend!

Best food in a long time, and coming from London we are quite spoilt, fresh ingredients, friendly service, definitely recommend if in the area. We had the braised beef, hake, burger and venison with polenta, all desserts also great and a fantastic cheese scone.

Lovely, quaint pub with a gourmet menu of deliciousness. Very unassuming and relaxed atmosphere. We came to Chagford for an overnight stay and dinner date. The staff were very welcoming and accomodating throughout. The hotel room was comfortable and nicely done. Would definitely recommend a visit to this place if you are in the area.

A wonderful pub situated within a wonderful village. The atmosphere was calm and the staff, welcoming. The courses were neatly and exquisitely prepared for us at just the right sizes for a three course meal - my favourite being the chocolate torte at the end. I look forward to returning soon!

Went for Sunday Lunch. Interesting menu which regularly changes. Good quantity of food and absolutely amazing flavours. We had the lamb with mint sauce and it was the best mint sauce I have ever tasted. Staff were friendly too. Would recommend and will be back.

Well kept beer, interesting menu with well done takes on standard dishes and good cooking . Venison burger juicy and generous, chicken leek and mushroom pie frvoursome and classy, delicious lemon posset and a fine apricot tart with a local cheese.

We stayed here for 2 nights, was shocked at what we were sleeping on, screws sticking out of the bottom of the bed, no mattress topper, very uncomfortable bed could feel every spring, no pillow case liners which revealed old bobbly pillows, very damp room, not ideal with 2 young children and no breakfast offered, won't be recommending to anyone!

I was hiking the Dartmoor Way and stayed here for one night. The room was great and I had a delicious steak. It was huge, I hadn't looked at the weight when ordering. No room for a dessert. Service was excellent. They don't serve breakfasts, something I hasn't noticed when booking but there is a lovely cafe, Folklore Kitchen just opposite which is great.

Excellent pub. Very nice friendly service and excellent food. We met friends there for lunch. A Hanlon beer was on which was good. Food was a cut above any normal pub grub, really well prepared and presented. Can particularly recommend the beef pie and lemon posset.

Really disappointed, we ordered the beef roast dinner after being recommended and it unfortunately was inedible due to too much aniseed being used with the vegetables and the gravy was extremely bland and thin. Wouldn't recommend coffee from here either as latte came out luke warm...twice and cappacino tasted more like hot milk. Will not be returning.

Jordan, Ollie and the rest of the team went above and beyond for us! Cannot recommend The Chagford Inn enough because of their kindness and care. After telling them we needed a table at short notice, they gladly fitted us in. We also had a toddler coming! As most parents know a meal at 6pm is a real danger ground, but they made a special plate full of snacks ready for our arrival, to keep her happy (and it certainly did!) They also made sure she had the meal she wanted even though tomato pasta was not on the menu! The food was absolutely delicious, I’d have eaten three portions of my mains if I could! The atmosphere lovely and relaxed. It made going out with our family such an enjoyable experience that we cannot thank them enough and are looking forward to the next time!

Lovely clean cosy room, lots of little extras like shampoo and conditioner, local water and my favourite milk left outside the door. Although it’s room only a little breakfast station in the entrance is a nice touch

The food was good but the service was not great. I think the waitresses were quite inexperienced. My sister and I ordered the Dover sole. That was all we got! A fish on a plate. We were not asked if we wanted sides, and the other 2 meals came with a full compliment. The fish was tasty but it would be better to offer sides when the meal is ordered.
