Stayed for New Year 2024-2025. We received a warm and friendly welcome from Adam. We stayed in a standard room which was spacious, had plenty of storage, was quiet, comfortable, good selection of teas/coffees/water and biscuits were provided. During our stay all of the staff provided friendly, professional and genuine service. We enjoyed breakfast, dinner and afternoon sandwiches. The food was of high standard, well presented and good flavours. The old building was charming as was the Church opposite and the town of Chagford. Good base for walking! Would definitely recommend a stay.

A hotel with a bar and a large restaurant. Pleasant enough, rudely modernised ancient building. Food adequate, but overall the Three Crowns lacks genuine local atmosphere. Individual staff are ok, but there's a definite lack of direction and personal involvement in the management style.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ A truly unforgettable Christmas feast! We recently held our company Christmas dinner at the Three Crowns, and it was an absolute triumph. From the moment we arrived, we were greeted with warm smiles and impeccable service. The festive atmosphere was delightful, and the restaurant was beautifully decorated. The food was simply outstanding. Every dish, from the starters to the Christmas crumble, was cooked to perfection. The quality of the ingredients was evident, and the presentation was great. The staff were attentive, friendly, and went above and beyond to ensure we had a memorable evening, especially Adam who pulled it all together. Their exceptional food, outstanding service, and festive charm made our Christmas dinner truly unforgettable.

This is my all time favourite pub and we have been coming here for years, which is why I decided to have my 40th Birthday meal here with my family. Very excited to walk in to my favourite pub & as soon as we got to the desk before any Hello the man (general manager) I am guessing pointed at my super friendly dog.. (which for years we have just walked in to find a seat) "The dog needs to be on a lead" no smile, no 'Hi have you visited us before? As we now do require that all dogs be on a lead.. if you don't mind' noting it was dead.. and got off to a really bad start on my birthday. We put him on a lead and was squished in to a very busy area (I understand you want more dinners, it just didn't feel personal at all) We waited for someone to come over, waited that bit long so I took everyone's drink order, went to the bar to order & was told they will come to us.. back to the table I go & we wait.. and wait then the waitress comes over to take the drinks (she starts off friendly) we order food which was presented lovely and tasted great (my parents roast was Luke warm not hot) but no problem with the food so well done chef. I asked the waitress as she passed for a drink.. after about 10 mins, I thought where's my drink, I looked over at the bar the bar tender had made it, and it was waiting for the waitress to bring it over. I was watching my drink sat on the end of the bar, as the bar tender was very busy serving lots of people. My drink was completely unattended which I didn't like.. I went up to the bar asked if this was for my table, which it was and took it back myself. We also had a pint which the glass smelt of dog 😅 I called the waitress over, explained this too her, she rolled her eyes at me and said "I'll get you another one" no apology... when she returned (and calmed down I guess) she said sorry about that. So far this isnt a great 40th birthday meal it's the first time my parents had been to the pub I constantly go on about over the years. When we finished our food my dad told the waitress we are ready for the cake he had pre ordered over the phone with them, the general manager comes back confused as to what cake!! He had no idea. My dad had confirmed a price, what cake, how big, what he wanted written on it or the plate etc only to have noting!! He offered us dessert free as they had not made the cake. This was not the point I couldn't really put a candle in my crème brûlée and it just finished off the whole experience. It's a new team, your teams have always been so friendly and smiled as a minimum. I don't know if the staff come from a hospitality background or if a Sunday is too much pressure for them? Or if you are not putting on enough staff to deal with all the tables you have squeezed in? Either way you can see from other recent reviews and our experience after coming to your pub for years it isn't working, somethings changed and I feel sad that my cozy pub done me dirty like that 🤪 and I'm not sure I would return after this. So thanks for the memorable 40th birthday meal, it's one I won't forget.

7:05 今87分 My friend and l are local and have been before and always been very impressed, Today though we ordered the Mezze platter for 2 at £36. It came with one bread roll and we had half each but asked if we could have another bread roll in order to finish the food on the board. We were told that that's how it comes but we could buy another roll at £3.50. We declined to pay for another roll so unfortunately couldn't finish the board. We also had 2 prosecco's so we were spending £50 at that point. We would have had either dessert or coffee but the attitude of the gentleman in charge of the restaurant today was very precocious and we were made to feel quite awkward and told they have to make monev on the bread rolls but at £3.50 you can buy a loaf of bread for less and all this because because we asked if we could have a second bread roll!!! Unbelievable. Seriously a sharing board needs a roll each especially for a board costing £36. With that attitude we won’t be back, which is sad,

Came in for Sunday roast and food was 10/10, best roast we have had for quite a while. What lacked was the service. We booked for 3pm and whilst we appreciate we entered at a busy time wrapping up peak time, service received wasn’t great from the off. One particular server seemed to be in quite a mood and was remarkably blunt “no” when we asked questions about getting some extra yorkshires (which we were a bit surprised the pork meal didn’t come with, but our fault for not reading the menu properly!) Plus someone seemed to think it was a great idea to loudly polish/sort out the cutlery at the bar, which was right next to our table, making conversation quite difficult and picked up by all 4 members of our party. Shame as food was amazing and would go back, but service lacked. 3pm bookings just as important as 12pm as all paying the same!

Never felt so unwelcomed in a restaurant ! Had booked the restaurant for 7pm to celebrate a special occasion after driving 300 miles. Were sat down and had to wait about 30mn for someone to come over to take our drinks and food order. This after flagging up to them that no one had come to see us . After 25 mn , drinks still did not arrive so I eventually crossed the room to get some from the bar myself .The rest of the meal was about the same throughout , poor service all along . As to the food itself : it was un-edible : greasy squids to start with followed by a greasy chicken Ceasar salad doused in insipid dressing ... I can cope with bad food but certainly not with table service as bad as this, it simply ruined the whole evening and is appalling . Sadly there were no excuses for it as the restaurant was well staffed and it wasn't super busy .Don't get into the hospitality business if you can't get the basics right !!

My husband and I ordered two sandwiches, we were then given one steak sandwich and I was given a prawn starter. I informed the waitress that I’d ordered a sandwich, she took the food away then brought it back and asked if I wanted that anyway! I said no and then had to 15 to 20 mins to bring out my sandwich (which was average at best). We had no check back and know one cleared our plates. We eventually had to go to reception to ask to pay, I advised I wasn’t happy to pay for the full meal, initially they had excuses prepared as to why I should pay, one of them being that I was told there would be a wait which did not happen. Due this they agreed to comp my meal, I’m shocked this wasn’t offered initially anyway as the mistake was there’s to being with. I do think the staff had assumed we were tourists but unfortunately we are very local and will not be returning. Last bit of feedback I have…train your staff on how to pronounce Korev. Its embarrassing.

What an absolute waste of a 90 mile round trip, do not believe the hype. Dirty menus and average “fryer food”. The lady who served us first was so lovely and welcoming to our dog. The other team member (bloke) was rude and abruptly dismissive. Drinks were sent back twice, given prosecco (flat twice which tasted of vinegar) they then opened a new bottle and no problem, but this FOH team member needs to move on or get some serious customer service training! I’m only leaving this review really because of how rude he was, we didn’t stay for food as planned.

We loved seeing this pub again, and there was a decent crowd for a Tuesday lunchtime. My partner ordered hake with the chowder but when it arrived she wanted my monkfish curry instead. That was fine by me, I never seem to enjoy monkfish, and I thought the hake (which she hadn't so much as prodded with a fork) had a look of succulence about it. We exchanged plates and I was happy at once with the swap. The fish indeed was succulent and there was a little crispness to the skin. With some pepper the chowder was very nice. Following a long flight over and 4-hour drive, the welcome from Three Crowns (specifically Scott) was timed perfectly. Scott and the entire TC team were as pleasantly and professionally guest-anticipatory as you will find at any lodging, anywhere. Our room (21) was both cozy and a bit quirky. The room is at the "end of the line" from boilers and it took some time to get hot water. (Scott and I will always have a healthy disagreement on the definition of "hot" water.) Dining was without question superb - ample breakfast variety and generous portions at dinner. Try the brat bites and if a true carnivore go for the pork-lamb-beef trio. Overall the Three Crowns exceeded expectations; staff the embodiment of "guest, first and foremost" esprit. A+++

The traditional entrance area by a huge stone fire place and the bar. We could have chosen the conservatory section, light and inviting. I must admit that our experience here started with the phone call, Georgia (the manager) was kind and professional and understanding. But also the girls at the bar. Lovely hotel/restaurant/bars. Would not use it if I didn't like it as there is plenty of competition from other places. Staff always pleasant and keen to do their job.

Stayed here for one night in September. It was a really comfortable stay. Since lockdown I have not had any really good pub meals but this was the best Sunday dinner meal I have had for a long, long time. Excellent wine list to boot! Thank you to all the staff for an enjoyable stay. A special thank you to Georgia for returning my charger. ; ) We will definitely be back when we revisit Dartmoor.

Stayed just one night very pleasant we were also blessed with hot weather in October. Sat outside all afternoon and dinner in the conservatory. Food really nice and friendly staff. Just one observation waiters and waitresses when you bring food or drinks to the table take away the previous glasses, we were limited for room on a round table for 4 so was very cluttered and when the cheese board arrived there was no room even then the glassed weren't removed. Small thing I know but the eye is in the detail. We'll be back.

I have emailed the Three Crowns with reference to our awful experience, unfortunately they haven't been bothered to reply to me. I have to agree with another diner who said it feels more like a Wetherspoons (except Wetherspoons staff have good training) Rude Staff (except one of the waitresses) Very rude "Assistant manager" Food mediocre (worst hummus and tzatziki I have ever had) Unhygienic staff practices Sink out of order in the ladies, tap and hand dryer not working in the corridor area Lack of staff training Dirty Menu's Etc Etc Etc Such a shame as I have been going to the Three Crown's for years but I have just had my last visit.

Ordered 2 sandwiches totalling £25 but chef had a emergency and left site. So had to make do with cake and crisps. (At least GF cake was available) Service felt really slow but maybe we were tired and hungry the reception for the hotel rooms seemed to be permanently staffed rather than staff helping out around the pub. Cake was alright 👍

Where to start, absolutely shambolic! Arrived and shown to a superior room off the courtyard. The noise from the massive kitchen extractors was unbearable. Immediately we went back to reception and said we couldn’t stay in that room, terms and conditions shot back at us,...

The restaurant was recommended to me and did not disappoint. First class, friendly service and excellent food. The online menu seemed limited but there were plenty of other options on the specials board.

We went for pizza the 1st evening while camping and then breakfast the following morning. Amazing food at a good fair price, loads of amazing bike gear and bikes. Lovely atmosphere 👌 great staff, everything cooked fresh.

I ordered a large pastie which I paid £4.50 what I got was a small pastie which waisted terrible. How oggy can say they are the best pastie around I don't know they are rubbish. And should be ashamed selling small pastie as a large. You even need to clean up ur shop and stop ur staff from picking there nose wen serving.
