We had been looking forward to coming here for something to eat after visiting in the summer for a drink, and as it was wet and miserable day we were looking forward to a nice roast in a cosy warm Inn. On entering the Inn felt cold and damp with no fire lit, it seemed under staffed and slightly disorganised. Food was average and unfortunately the Yorkshire puddings were burnt, a nice pub spoilt by a lack of attention to detail.

We visited the inn on a Sunday evening for dinner. It is tucked away off the beaten track and you’d never know it was there. We found it by accident and we were so pleased we did! We were only sad that we found it on our last night in Devon. Immediately we were greeted by a smiling Becky and colleagues. The dining area was cosy and had a lovely atmosphere. The menu had a good range of dishes. We started with a few starters and shared them between us. All were delicious. I went for the beef brisket for main, which was the best beef I have ever eaten! It was melt in the mouth and the portion size was so large that I couldn’t eat it all. The boys had the lamb burger and they said it was incredible! We then went for blood orange sorbet to top the meal off. It was perfect. All in all, the food was delicious and the staff were friendly and very accommodating. They are dog friendly too and gave us dog biscuits for the pooch! We would definitely recommend this place 100%. Make sure you find it early in your stay if you are on holiday… you WILL want to go back! Thank you to Becky and the rest of the staff for making it the best meal of our holiday by far!

Omg what an amazing find! I really wish I lived closer. We stopped off for Sunday lunch whilst visiting family. The food was beautiful, the beef was full of flavour 😋. Sat outside which is on the road but it's so quiet it's still lovely. Will definitely visit the next time we're down from Bristol.

Disappointed this time, i have been to this pub on many occasions but i won't be back, i ordered steak and it was hardly edible, i asked for it to be cooked "Medium" and there was no sign of pink, definitely over cooked, i went with friends who had just suffered a bereavement so i didn't feel that i wanted to upset them further by complaining but if i had gone with my husband i would not have paid for the meal there was only us and one other couple in the whole pub which for a Saturday night is poor, maybe that should have told us something

I’ve known this pub for a long time but this was the first visit for several years. I really wanted to give more than 3 stars because the service was outstanding and the food was pretty good but there were just a couple of points that let it down for me. Firstly, there are several different dining areas - the bar seemed warm a friendly with chatter and music playing, the room at the end is full of character and decorated prettily with fairy lights and a comfortable seating area, however, we were put into the middle room. It was pretty cold and empty, smelled of damp and devoid of atmosphere. I was with my 85 year old mum and she was really too cold to enjoy her meal. The food was generally very good, fresh and beautifully presented. Only point here is to maybe go a bit lighter on the pesto in the chicken dish. It was served with spring greens and mashed potatoes but it was impossible to taste either of them as the pesto dressing was a bit overpowering.

We LOVED this place! Very friendly welcome to ourselves and our dogs. Four of us in total, 2 had the “chicken special”..delicious! 2 had the BEST Ploughman’s we have ever been served. Loved the place, the landlord…so helpful. The chef was great, came and said hello. Would recommend this place to anyone. We were I sitting the nearby Buckland Abbey. Thank you for a really lovely lunch!

So I stumbled upon this pub whilst I was out running, it’s on the fringes of Dartmoor tucked in a valley, in a place called Milton Combe. The pub it self has a lot of history and has a pretty cool/quaint set up Before we get started on the food, the staff were friendly, polite and seemed really nice. Ok, so I went with my mates and we all ordered a roast beef or pork. It was £22, which is probably a bit more than your usual roast in and around Plymouth/Dartmoor however this roast was banging The meat seasoned to perfection and falling apart in your mouth. The cauliflower cheese, second to none. Dunking the pork crackling in the left overs of the cauliflower cheese … that’s what Sundays are made for. Me and my mates were super hungry, I think we could have done with a bit more of everything on the plate BUT we do eat a lot more than the average human. I’ll leave a pic so you can decide, but all 4 of us will defo go back. Well done chef and team

We booked two nights at the pub because we liked the area. The room was clean and presented well. The shower was excellent and clean. The area is great for nature watchers with dogs. The estuary is close, as is the moor. This is a proper English pub with locals and their dogs filling one of the rooms. It has traditional beams and stone floor. Breakfast was a full one and was good. However, I had the mussels (moules frites), these were the best I have ever had. The sauce was just wonderful, and the chef came out and talked us through how to make it. Chips were up to par. No its not perfect, the roads are flippin narrow. It is however everything I would want from a pub and lodgings.

We had 2 nights' excellent accommodation here and enjoyed breakfast and dinner in the restaurant. Fiona provided "bespoke" breakfast and shared a chat. All staff were welcoming, friendly and gave exemplary service. Such a trusting proprietor (Martin), too; we did not have to pay the bill until all services had been provided. Approach lanes are narrow, but that's what gives charm to the location, and the hamlet is pretty for an evening walk. Good car park too.

We went here for Sunday lunch about two months ago, a big roaring fire and a wonderful welcome, the food was superb and we enjoyed it immensely. Last week we returned on a week day, the welcome was still nice but there must have been a different chef as the fish and chips were awful. The chips were so overcooked (they tasted warmed up) they were very brown and most of mine seemed to be scrapings as they were just hard bits. The fish was OK but the peas were practically raw. When the waitress asked if everything was OK I told her the peas weren't cooked and she just said "oh sorry". What's the point of asking if when you complain nothing is done. So very mixed feelings - although it's a wonderful olde worlde pub, which you don't get many of these days, don't have the fish and chips!

Lovely pub with a wonderful atmosphere. The landlord could not have been more kind and accommodating. The staff were really efficient and friendly. Sadly, the meal let it down. The meat was delicious but the roast potatoes had a kind of leathery and very tough texture and I understand the fish was very dry and tasteless. From reading the reviews, it seems that the food is a little hit and miss here. As I say, lovely pub - hoping that the next time we go, the food will be a hit. Thanks for all the rest though.

Who'd have thought it.....would be so disappointing. Waited an hour for dinner to arrive after the order had been taken. Crispy beer battered cod wasn't. Batter was soggy. Chips were standard frozen chips. Garden peas instead of mushy peas, and no sign of the curry sauce that was included on the menu. Creamy mushroom with broccoli spaghetti wasn't either. Pasta was dry, and overcooked. No broccoli. Not even a sniff. The dish had obviously been microwaved. Wasnt ecpecting cordon bleu, but an effort would have been good. But there was plenty of banter going on in the kitchen...sadly just not much cooking.

We were really looking forward to this meal after a 15 mile walk. However the Bengali prawn starter was something you could buy from Iceland frozen food. The main Persian chicken flatbread tasted of nothing other than the Siracha sauce it came with. The skinny fries well let’s just say MacDonalds fries are better. Seriously this is not food cooked by a chef who is capable or potentially with the budget to cook from scratch. We decided not to go go for dessert cut our losses. We really wanted this to be good but sadly it totally missed the mark.

Just had a very good evening meal, we had been there before and found the food to be disappointing but on hearing the pub had recently changes hands decided to return, we were greeted by very friendly staff and were all extremely pleased with the quality of the food. Not the easiest places to get to but well worth the effort.

We went here for a lunch on a Friday recently, and we had a homemade burger, fish and chips between us. The pub is lovely well decorated and in keeping with the 16th century, the staff were also lovely and great service.

Had an evening meal here. The village is very quaint. A hidden gem with a great pub. The food was tasty and the staff welcoming. It should be noted that once on the road leading to the pub it is quite steep for walking albeit not to long. Still worth a visit

Our favourite landlady and chef have moved on and the replacements (temporary?) are not up to the same standard. The kids voted it the worse Sunday roast they have ever had.

Fantastic 500 year old inn in a lovely village, visited for a meal with my wife and a friend. The staff were very friendly and the food was great. Atmosphere in the pub was good and the patrons welcoming.

The venue is very good and an atmospheric old pub. However a very long wait for a mediocre meal when the pub was almost empty...and poor quality wine . Very very disappointing.

We took my brother and his wife here for lunch. Unfortunately, as there wasn't a great deal of choice that appealed to my wife who has a very small appetite, and thought the beef a bit too rare for her taste. However, they were able to cater for my sister-in-law who is lactate intolerant. It is a lovely old 16th century inn and well worth a visit if you can manage the narrow roads into the village.

Stayed here for the Easter weekend and could not fault it. Rooms are lovely, food amazing and Olivia and Darren are simply brilliant. They will be sadly missed and are a credit to the pub. Go and visit quickly before they leave!! (Oh and have the scrambled eggs for breakfast - nicest ones I’ve ever had)!

The restaurant was recommended to me and did not disappoint. First class, friendly service and excellent food. The online menu seemed limited but there were plenty of other options on the specials board.

We went for pizza the 1st evening while camping and then breakfast the following morning. Amazing food at a good fair price, loads of amazing bike gear and bikes. Lovely atmosphere 👌 great staff, everything cooked fresh.
