This place is amazing. We popped in for a drink when we were staying in lifton and the atmosphere was lovely, so we decided to book a table for dinner the following night. We were so glad we did as the food was exceptional. I had the Gado Gado salad, followed with the Venison vindaloo special. My hubby had spring rolls followed with beef bourguignon pie special. The food was delicious, the service was perfect and it was an all round great evening.

Placed order in the morning for takeaway dinner. Having never eaten here but wanting to support local businesses during this difficult time, we was NOT disappointed! Fish was one of the best I’ve eaten. Batter was so light and no grease. Cod was perfectly cooked and so tasty. Scampi was delicious. Very fresh tasting. But the most tastiest was the burger. Smelt, looked and tasted amazing. This may have been our first visit here but definitely not our last! We’re all looking forward to burger Wednesday (even with our full bellies) and looking forward to full opening to book a table. Well done lifton hall chef

We were staying locally and booked for dinner on our first night. We enjoyed the food and the staff were very friendly and helpful in these strange Covid times that we booked for a further two evenings. Went there for Sunday Lunch while staying in the area and really happy that we did. All staff were efficient, welcoming and friendly. This is down to good management I’m sure. All up-to-date C-19 precautions were strictly adhered to and tables cleaned.I had the nutroast which was home made and delicious and my husband had the pan fried chicken. It was all freshly cooked and so we had to wait but I prefer that actually. I was even tempted into a dessert as the trifle looked so amazing and it was! I rarely succumb to a second course but could not resist! Toilets were very clean and fresh looking with a one way system in place and sanitiser too. I loved the hanging baskets outside the doorway and the whole place had a cared for feel. Well done Lifton Hall! I would love to return one day when in the area.

We were staying in Lifton and decided to pop in for a drink and something to eat. Not exactly a warm welcome which was surprising as we were the only ones in the place! God knows how many takeaways my misspent life has led me to eat. But without doubt the one I had last Saturday was one of the very best ever! Saturday is pop-up night and this time it was a thai-based menu.Chicken & Turkey meatballs were nicely seasoned and full of flavour. White fish Thai Green Curry was wonderful. Perfectly cooked fish (and generous) and beautifully spiced. The noodle and crunchy salad with a peanut sauce was if anything, even better. Fresh tasting with a burst of heat. The meal also included prawn crackers; spring rolls and lovely fragrant rice. It was all truly a triumph. A real feast. Perfectly balanced, delicate yet full of flavour, spicy but short, sharp and precise. Outstanding! and well done to Robert & Richard for well-organised collection service and superb food.

Lovely place for lunch or dinner. Will definitely come here again. Great choice of vegetarian options. The onion and vegetable Bhajee wrap was delicious as was the vegetable curry and chilli although the chilli wasn’t very spicy. Food was good and hot, staff were very friendly, accommodating and down to earth. If you have fussy kids, make sure you ask what’s in the wrap. The salad in our other son’s very tasty chicken wrap was delicious but he is quite fussy and ditched it! They would have made it with just lettuce, but I got to eat it instead!

We went to meet family for lunch b4 Christmas. I had fish cakes, sadly wasnt a fan. They were pretty tasteless. Others had them mind, and enjoyed them. The kids meals were very good value, esp the size of the ice cream scoops! The reason for the 4 stars are the farm shop pies! We took a steak and ale home for tea and were soooo happy! It was gorgeous, loads of gravy too! Highly recommended. Unfortunately for me, the restaurant let itself down this time.....

Birthday afternoon tea for my sister-in-law, a different selection of savoury from the norm including small cups of tomato and bean soup, duck spring roll with hoisin sauce and a selection sandwiches. Sweets consisted of mango mousse with fruit compote, shortbread, cakes, lemon meringue tarts and of course fresh scones with jam and clotted cream with plenty of tea. OMG think the scones had just come out of the oven light as a feather on the inside and crisp on the outside. The Lemon tarts and the are tart were fantastic with the sweet crisp meringue on the top to counter the lemon sharpness. Well done Lifton Hall Hotel

Had the five course taster menu on the first night as part of a dinner, bed and breakfast deal. Absolutely first class - every course had a lovely twist to it, and there is obviously a commitment to using the best ingredients. Every one of us returned sparkling clean plates to the kitchen - clear demonstration that the food was enjoyed. Having seen the menu and specials board we decided to eat in the hotel again on our second night - something we ordinarily would never do in an attempt to try different places. So glad we did - again, a menu with plenty of variety from the more traditional to the more adventurous - never seen Bobotee (South African cottage pie) on a menu before - and everything stunning. The chef clearly uses the best ingredients and then caters for a wide range of tastes. One of our best meals of all time. Have to mention the really friendly staff too - they were rushed off their feet both nights (a packed restaurant and bar on a midweek - a very good sign), but always were friendly, chatty and clearly happy in their job. First class.

The advantage of driving yourself when vacationing is that you can take spontaneous side excursions. And so we got off of the A30 and drove through Lifton in the early afternoon. Since we hadn't had lunch yet we kept our eye out for a promising pub, and we came across Lifton Hall. Sooooo glad we did! Super hospital barkeep (great pours...) and a wonderful mid-day meal. We were given this as a Christmas present & didn't get round to it until March. Had been for evening meals here before but this was a new experience at this venue. Have had this in 4 or 5 otter places & can honestly say this was the best. Amuse-bouche size serving of soup, ham & salad roll, cheese & cucumber sandwich, piping hot spring roll. The ubiquitous scone, jam & cream. Good homemade scones & generous portions of jam & cream. Mini-Mississippi mud pies, brownies, lemon drizzle cake & shot glasses containing lemon pannacotta topped with forest fruits. Extra tea to drink if required. Our combined age is 150 & we just don't have the capacity to do it justice - the leftovers were packed up for us to take home. So go after a long walk when you're really hungry.

We are regular visitors to Lifton Hall restaurant and attend many of their themed food evenings. The two gentlemen who own it are very hands on in the business so this and their carefully picked team ensures a high quality all round. Our recent visit for the Indonesian food night was brilliant. Beef Rendang (curry) was the star dish accompanied by sesame noodle salad, chicken satay, nasi goreng and a steamed vegetable salad with peanuts. One of the owners is the main chef and plans and researches the menu ably assisted by a second skilled chef. The menu is a set menu with the option of adding a dessert later. The food is tailored to any guest but those who wish to pick from the main menu instead can do so. We took the 'taster' menu (also part of the deal) which consisted of 5 smallish courses (but sufficient). We thought that the wine was rather expensive at £24 for a house wine.Nice surroundings with tables well spread. Good service.

We had a lovely meal here in the restaurant, but it was very quiet & not the cheapest place to eat. the staff were very nice & the menu was ok even though there was not massive choice !!!

Visited here on recommendation of our neighbours. Regular themed evenings are put on with different styles of cuisine from other countries. We attended a Greek night and as the chef is Greek it was exquisitely authentic but not the standard tourist fare. There is a set price menu which is discounted if you join the club (free of charge). Starters and mains were standard with a choice of dessert. Beers, wine, coffees etc. available as extras as this is also a hotel. Good parking and toilet facilities with a location just off the A30 in the pleasant village of Lifton. Will be going regularly.

I visited the Lifton Hall Hotel this evening with my husband and son. We opted to leave the dog at home, but they are welcome in the bar. The bar area was full so we sat in the hotel dining room. Service was very good and the staff friendly. We had pork stroganoff, spiced prawn platter and ravioli. All dishes were delicious, the portion size was fine for us, but if you are very hungry you may want a starter. I had a mini desert with coffee for afters. The warm brownie and clotted cream was a delicious combination. A lovely meal and we would definitely return if in the area again.

The food was incredible. I would return just to eat here again. Portion size was good without being excessive.

Enjoyed the variety offered for each course and the dessert was changed to suit dietary need. Served by pleasant staff who balanced our service with a large family group and others who were also dining.

We ate here on consecutive nights on a short stay: the food is really good, I had pork stroganoff one night and fried Ling the next; both puddings - a wonderful pavlova and apple and cherry crumble, were great. Good Devon Otter and Cornish Tribune on tap. Great service (we are in the bar, though there us a restaurant area too) and a really nice vibe, everyone seemed to know each other.

We went for pizza the 1st evening while camping and then breakfast the following morning. Amazing food at a good fair price, loads of amazing bike gear and bikes. Lovely atmosphere 👌 great staff, everything cooked fresh.

Came in for Sunday roast and food was 10/10, best roast we have had for quite a while. What lacked was the service. We booked for 3pm and whilst we appreciate we entered at a busy time wrapping up peak time, service received wasn’t great from the off. One particular server seemed to be in quite a mood and was remarkably blunt “no” when we asked questions about getting some extra yorkshires (which we were a bit surprised the pork meal didn’t come with, but our fault for not reading the menu properly!) Plus someone seemed to think it was a great idea to loudly polish/sort out the cutlery at the bar, which was right next to our table, making conversation quite difficult and picked up by all 4 members of our party. Shame as food was amazing and would go back, but service lacked. 3pm bookings just as important as 12pm as all paying the same!

Beautiful place and restaurant. The only issue is, when choosing a piece of steak, we were told that the only way chef would cook it, is the only way chef would eat it. Which meant rare. I don’t like rare, and my husband hates it. We came to a compromise. Unfortunately when served, it wasn’t rare, it was raw. This cost £100! I just wish that I had been served food that I enjoyed eating. Unfortunately I won’t return. We have supported this establishment and the chef, but we felt that we just weren’t listened to. Indeed we were told next time the chef would only cook to his desire for each cut. It’s a bit of a liberty, especially when you try to support local. Maybe listen to your customers.
