10 of us called into the Walkhampton Inn after a walk on the Moor. It was warm and welcoming, with good beers and a good menu. We all ordered a lunch, there was no waiting. Good pub fare, great pies, fish and chips etc. We all enjoyed our meal and I shall be returning.

Having had a pleasant lunch here during the Summer, we decided to invite friends to eat here with us tonight. Big mistake. We all chose the fish and chips - we felt unanimously the menu was limited aside from burgers or pies. The fish was cooked OK, just OK, chips were dry and overly fried, more frazzled bits than chips. Peas were very dry. Overall the meal was edible but beyond disappointing. Despite booking in advance we were seated at a table cheek to jowl with a rowdy group of men with intermittent vile smelling guts. There was also an overhelming stink of BO permeating the eating area. There were various vacant tables in a quieter area more appropriate for couples but these seemed to be out of bounds. The waitress referred to us all night as "you guys" which was irritating. With such small portions at overly inflated prices we definitely will not return. We left £100 lighter feeling we'd been had.

We live in the next village and are regular customers here. Today was very disappointing. Yes, we know it’s half term and that’s why we booked. We still waited an hour for our lunch which is not acceptable. The pleasant young man behind the bar was rushed off his feet and more staff are needed. He apologised for the long wait. I understand they had walk in customers (tables of 6), to be expected at half term surely? Hard to turn customers away but the situation needs to be managed. Welcome them and inform them they may need to wait for food as others have booked. Remember it’s the locals who keep you going outside of the school holidays. We have other good pubs locally.

Really excellent lunch - 2 x homemade pies and 1 x ham egg and chips. All first class. Service was v pleasant and quick. We walked from Princetown along the old railway line to Walkhampton (you come off onto a country road for the last mile). We stopped for a look round Walkhampton Church on the way. We were well fueled after lunch for the walk back to Princetown (about 2 hrs ).

Absolutely fabulous. Popped in for a quick pint in the middle of a long walk around the foothills of Dartmoor. Arrived late lunchtime. A selection of 9 still ciders - brilliant. Lots of other drinks available, I didn't eat but heard at least 3 customers say the food was excellent when they went to settle their tab. Very friendly welcome, all in all a brilliant experience - I will most certainly be back.

If you won't a fantastic place to stay with lovely and comfortable accommodation, Great Breakfast, really good freshly prepared food, this is the place for you and yours. The food really is Top Notch. Great Welcome from this Family Run establishment and the whole team here are really welcoming and can't do enough for you to make your visit pleasant and enjoy able, always with a big smile. My wife and l have been Staying here since the current owners took over this establishment. It's taken a lot of work and Development over the years we have been visiting and even Duering the extensive improvement we have have always enjoyed our stays. Appart from other odd times of year we have chosen to spend the last four Christmass here even excepting the 400 miles we have to travel. I have travelled extensively and stayed at a whole range of accommodation and this is certainly the top of my list. Before l retired I owned and run a number of successful establishments for over 25 years. I am currently writing a book on this industry and this will certainly include a list of preferred places to Stay, Eat and Socialise. The Walkhamton Inn will most certainly find it's place within its pages. Location is also worth a note, However there is so much information about the Walkhamton Inn, the Village of Walkhamton it's self and the serounding area of Dartmoor can be found on the Internet etc, so l will leave you to do your own reaserch on these.

Popped in for a drink and a look at the place as we been told it was very good and had a real fire. All true! Plus the staff were very nice. We decided to look at the menu but didn’t really want a meal. But after the lady told us it was home made curry week, I decided to try the dirty curry fries with my pint. The mrs had pulled pork fries. £11 each which is a bit pricey but we expected it to be quite decent after all the good reviews. My mrs enjoyed her pulled pork but my Phall curry fries were quite mild , more like a madras tbh. Also we both agree there were very few fries for £11 each. It was like a starter . I told the waitress the curry was nothing like a phall and she said she would inform the chef. Disappointed! So a pint, a soft drink and two small dirty fries was £30. Nice place but probably won’t return. I think the chef needs to try a phall at an Indian restaurant.

Went for lunch today during Burger and Pie Week. We had a venison burger and a turkey burger, both were delicious. Great service from the young bartender. We heard her telling other guests she was only 16 but she was so confident and welcoming, even gave us a little taste of the cider before we ordered. Only room for improvement is that it was a little chilly, maybe light that lovely fire on a grey October day.

The room was good, needed some repairs but is an old building, The mattress was very uncomfortable though. The breakfast was very good, we were then asked how long we were going to be before we checked out, which seemed a bit odd as it was 9am and checkout was before 11am. Food was good but definitely room for improvement in other areas.

Stayed here for a little weekend away from the kids. Lovely quirky little place with all the properly historical features of an old pub with the wonky floors and wooden beams. Room was clean and nicely decorated with good selection of tea/coffee bits. Bed was comfortable and huge with a big walk in rainfall shower too in the en-suite. All the staff have been really friendly, welcoming and helpful. The barmaid and the waitresses at dinner were all chatty and smiley. Considering we stuck a pin in a map to choose where we were going, we got very lucky with this little gem! Our meal was excellent, steak was perfectly cooked, my husband said his pie was delicious and the ginger sponge was very strongly flavoured (but in a good way!). Very disappointing, the service was poor, from ordering our food it took over an hour before we received our meals whilst other customers who ordered after us got there’s first. Then we ordered the 4oz burger topped with bbq pulled chicken, this came out asa chicken burger, no onion rings which others had and the chicken burger and bun were burnt. We also had the coronation chicken pie, the pastry on this was also burnt so it couldn’t be finished. I had the suet pie which was fine apart from the peas were under cooked and cold. We just eat what we could as we’d already been there so long. Not once did any member of the waiting staff ask if our food was ok and after finishing we were left sat waiting and in end went to the bar to pay. Again we weren’t asked about the meal almost like they knew it wasn’t up to standard…. That said I’ve been here before when it’s been busier and couldn’t fault it. Such a shame.

We went for a meal with another family of four and between us we had our four children with us. The landlord spent the whole evening publicly berating and telling off the barmaid who was working very hard single-handedly to serve a very busy bar. On two occasions he was having a go at her when she was trying to serve us and she looked so embarrassed. She was actually doing NOTHING wrong and doing a great job when the shift was clearly under-staffed. Towards the end of the evening, the landlord sat down and started drinking heavily with his mates and playing a game at the table. He was shouting out and swearing (F***) constantly. To say we were horrified would be an understatement. When our friend went to order a drink from the bar, right beside where the landlord was sat, there was nobody to serve. The landlord carried out on drinking, playing, shouting and swearing with his mates instead of serving his customer. I’ve never witnessed such appalling behaviour from a landlord and certainly won’t be returning again!

We live about half an hour away and have only recently come across the Walkhampton Inn, and what a find! Each visit has us singing the pub's praises on the drive home - warm welcome, really really good pub food, swift service and hardworking staff....

Stopped by for a spot of lunch on my birthday today. Fantastic garden out the back, staff always incredibly friendly, service was quick and easy. Ales went down a treat in the sunshine.

We’ve been to the Walkhampton Inn twice in a couple of weeks. Choice of meals is really good . Both visits were delightful, food was amazing and filling, very reasonably priced. Staff really friendly and atmosphere is very quaint. Def recommend. Only downside is limited...

Nice warm pub, hidden away in tiny village off the beaten track with difficult parking, but worth it. Good service. Good prices compared to other pubs locally. Crab salad was tasty, also halloumi fries.

Booked table for 2 earlier same day. Even though pub was busy, this was not a problem!Excellent choice of lagers, ales and ciders.Meals were tasty, although I wish I’d gone for the Steak and Ale pie (my wife had that) - by all accounts, it was fab!Overall, a warm, welcoming pub/restaurant where the service and food were good. We’ll definitely be back!!

Visited to meet up with old friends. Excellt all round. Really friendly, helpful staff, couldn't fault them in any way at all Excellent range of decent ciders. As a coeliac, my meal of choice wasn't suitable but there were others that were, just me being fussy. All in all, a local pub run the way it should be. Welcoming, friendly and helpful staff. Great ciders, yummy looking good. Will return very soon - just keep The General cider in stock please!

We stumbled upon this pub whilst visiting Dartmoor. So glad we did! The waitress was so friendly and welcoming. She mentioned they had some home made pies and we were sold. They were delicious, full of meat and the pastry was spot on. We’ve worked out the pub is 30 mins from us in Cornwall and even though it’s further than we’d normally drive for lunch we have to make an exception for this place. So, as the title of this review says, we’ll be back! Oh and the beer selections are great too which was an added bonus!

What a lovely pub at the heart of the village. A cosy 16th century with a wood-burning fire. The landlady creates a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Highly recommended.

Went for dinner with the family and friends and we were all extremely impressed. The service was excellent. From entering to leaving, everyone was great, everyone was friendly and couldn't do enough to make sure we were well looked after. The food was fantastic, every dish from the childrens to adults, starters, mains and desert was amazing. Well presented, cooked to perfection and extremely tasty. We'll definitely go back when in the area again and would highly recommend going there.

Very friendly staff, they allowed me to wait inside for someone even though they were closing. Lovely selection of beers, the crisp cider was perfect after a long day. Will definitely be back soon.
