Went for lunch today during Burger and Pie Week. We had a venison burger and a turkey burger, both were delicious. Great service from the young bartender. We heard her telling other guests she was only 16 but she was so confident and welcoming, even gave us a little taste of the cider before we ordered. Only room for improvement is that it was a little chilly, maybe light that lovely fire on a grey October day.

Good, but it could be better. Stayed the night here. The food was really good but no idea if they have a dessert menu as we weren't offered any and then we were rushed off the table. The room was good, needed some repairs but is an old building, The mattress was very uncomfortable though. The breakfast was very good, we were then asked how long we were going to be before we checked out, which seemed a bit odd as it was 9am and checkout was before 11am. Food was good but definitely room for improvement in other areas.

Stayed here for a little weekend away from the kids. Lovely quirky little place with all the properly historical features of an old pub with the wonky floors and wooden beams. Room was clean and nicely decorated with good selection of tea/coffee bits. Bed was comfortable and huge with a big walk in rainfall shower too in the en-suite. All the staff have been really friendly, welcoming and helpful. The barmaid and the waitresses at dinner were all chatty and smiley. Considering we stuck a pin in a map to choose where we were going, we got very lucky with this little gem! Our meal was excellent, steak was perfectly cooked, my husband said his pie was delicious and the ginger sponge was very strongly flavoured (but in a good way!). Brilliant little place to stay and eat whilst exploring Dartmoor, will definitely be recommending to friends.

We booked a 3 night stay here and checked out after 1 night. The rain was literally pouring in one corner o the room and it smelled rancid... which we found was due to a disgusting old towel being used to catch the water! The manager came and looked, seemed quite disinterested and told us it should stop raining soon so not to worry. Hallways were scruffy and dirty. On the positive side, the breakfast was quite nice. Absolutely don't stay here !

Finally dropped in over a couple of lunchtimes midweek after discovering the pub online some months ago. Great rustic no frills old pub with a nice menu at very reasonable prices. The service was great altho I was disappointed with the food I had a burger off the specials board and the cheese burger fries in fairness the burger was ok missing the horse radish but it was ok the fries on the other hand where soggy and tasteless we ordered pudding after and I ordered apple crumble with custard and out came possibly the smallest jug of custard not even enough to cover the crumble most disappointed

Very disappointing, the service was poor, from ordering our food it took over an hour before we received our meals whilst other customers who ordered after us got there’s first. Then we ordered the 4oz burger topped with bbq pulled chicken, this came out asa chicken burger, no onion rings which others had and the chicken burger and bun were burnt. We also had the coronation chicken pie, the pastry on this was also burnt so it couldn’t be finished. I had the suet pie which was fine apart from the peas were under cooked and cold. We just eat what we could as we’d already been there so long. Not once did any member of the waiting staff ask if our food was ok and after finishing we were left sat waiting and in end went to the bar to pay. Again we weren’t asked about the meal almost like they knew it wasn’t up to standard…. That said I’ve been here before when it’s been busier and couldn’t fault it. Such a shame.

Went for food and we were really disappointed. The chips were inedible as they were so overcooked, the pie was inedible as the pastry was rock hard and the mash was bland and powdery. When we went to pay we were ts we had to pay for it as there was nothing wrong with food, other than the pie being a bit overdone, but the inside was fine, Apparently this is how they serve their chips...burnt and potato-less! But apparently noone else complains about the chips, so that's ok!! Yum!! Enjoy folks!

We went for a meal with another family of four and between us we had our four children with us. The landlord spent the whole evening publicly berating and telling off the barmaid who was working very hard single-handedly to serve a very busy bar. On two occasions he was having a go at her when she was trying to serve us and she looked so embarrassed. She was actually doing NOTHING wrong and doing a great job when the shift was clearly under-staffed. Towards the end of the evening, the landlord sat down and started drinking heavily with his mates and playing a game at the table. He was shouting out and swearing (F***) constantly. To say we were horrified would be an understatement. When our friend went to order a drink from the bar, right beside where the landlord was sat, there was nobody to serve. The landlord carried out on drinking, playing, shouting and swearing with his mates instead of serving his customer. I’ve never witnessed such appalling behaviour from a landlord and certainly won’t be returning again!

Food was dreadful, had fish and chips, chips were not chips but fries and even then it was the dregs of the bottom of the fryer, all of it greasy and unpalatable. Had a couple of scoops of ice cream after to try and sweeten the grease taste. I think it had gone by it’s use by date, it definitely tasted strange! I did not eat it all, my partner then tried it & did not finish it either. The next day followed a high fever, chills, sweats & a very very upset stomach. Ruined our last two days of our holiday. Will never come here again. NOT recommended!

Our first venture for lunch post the latest lockdown. We chose the very busy Walkhampton Inn. Despite how busy it was we were welcomed as soon as we arrived and shown a table by the very attentive staff. Whilst it was a very sunny day there was a strong easterly wind. Our request to move tables was swiftly accommodated. The staff (despite being as busy as they were), repeatedly called at our table to check that all was okay and that we had all that we required. There was a good selection of real ales and lagers. The atmosphere was great with a mix of ages in the pub garden and all the tables full. I alone had a starter (Whitebait). Our mains consisted of two steaks and a Fish and Chips. The food was plentiful and of excellent quality. I requested a rare steak and it was perfect. The chips (triple cooked) were super ("best Ive had for a long time " quoted Mother in Law). Make sure that you are hungry should you go as the portions are generous. The set up was very 'Covid compliant' with distancing, checking in etc. Overall a great experience. My only disappointment was having to leave. Excellent value for money with a starter, three main meals and drinks at less than £70.

Fabulous landlord , doing up this really nice old pub. Garden is great with lots of tables and chairs , takeaway menu including absolutely delicious pies during lockdown . Have eaten here two or three times , bit out of the way, but worth searching for . Pub was shut for three years and now coming back to life - deserves to do very well !!

We had take away delivery to a friend's house. Normally take away can take the edge off fantastic cooking but not this time. I must say hats off to a wonderful chef. The pies and the burgers are world class. I'm serious. If you are nearby actually no matter how far away you are. Make the trip. Super pub.

We stumbled across this pub but found that it had a really charming and friendly local pub atmosphere which we really miss and such a relief to rediscover. The staff were absolutely wonderful and we thoroughly enjoyed our visit.

Found this place when in Oakhampton on a Saturday night and decided to go for take away cod and chips. Staff were friendly, service was good and the food freshly cooked to order. Good portions hot fresh and very tasty. Would certainly recommend it.

Excellent pub. Fantastic service and made to feel welcome. Beer was on great form (tavistock brewery) and the food was brilliant. Simply a 5 star pub, highly recommended.

Highly recommended, staff are friendly/efficient, plenty of room upstairs if full downstairs. And most in important, v.clean. 👏

An excellent small, friendly pub, much frequented by locals. Please note there is no food available other than a range of crisps etc.
