Had an evening meal here heard good things about it. The service was great altho I was disappointed with the food I had a burger off the specials board and the cheese burger fries in fairness the burger was ok missing the horse radish but it was ok the fries on the other hand where soggy and tasteless we ordered pudding after and I ordered apple crumble with custard and out came possibly the smallest jug of custard not even enough to cover the crumble most disappointed

I have been coming back to stay here on business for the last 5 months.. The very fact I have been coming back and bringing colleagues to stay here also means that I LOVE this place 17th century charm meets fab chef with a talent for the best comfort food in town and very cosy rooms. Family run it has all the boxes ticked, friendly staff, dog friendly and everyone is made to feel welcome. Breakfast is a treat if you have a big appetite ahead of all the beautiful walks Dartmoor has to offer. Freshly made, local produce cooked to your liking there is a host of options available. Highly recommend for people with dogs as there is easy access to the outside for those middle of the night comfort breaks! I cant fault this gem and will be definitely coming back - Thankyou everyone at the Walkhampton for looking after me and my little dog over the last few moths!

Don’t be tempted by ‘pie week’. I arrived at 1830 on a Wednesday booking to see that 80% of their menu was unavailable and one of my table members had to take the next day off due to food poisoning. After ringing the establishment to report this back, I was met with a very unenthusiastic apology and general disinterest. Quite a shame

Very disappointing, the service was poor, from ordering our food it took over an hour before we received our meals whilst other customers who ordered after us got there’s first. Then we ordered the 4oz burger topped with bbq pulled chicken, this came out asa chicken burger, no onion rings which others had and the chicken burger and bun were burnt. We also had the coronation chicken pie, the pastry on this was also burnt so it couldn’t be finished. I had the suet pie which was fine apart from the peas were under cooked and cold. We just eat what we could as we’d already been there so long. Not once did any member of the waiting staff ask if our food was ok and after finishing we were left sat waiting and in end went to the bar to pay. Again we weren’t asked about the meal almost like they knew it wasn’t up to standard…. That said I’ve been here before when it’s been busier and couldn’t fault it. Such a shame.

Went for food and we were really disappointed. The chips were inedible as they were so overcooked, the pie was inedible as the pastry was rock hard and the mash was bland and powdery. When we went to pay we were ts we had to pay for it as there was nothing wrong with food, other than the pie being a bit overdone, but the inside was fine, Apparently this is how they serve their chips...burnt and potato-less! But apparently noone else complains about the chips, so that's ok!! Yum!! Enjoy folks!

We went for a meal with another family of four and between us we had our four children with us. The landlord spent the whole evening publicly berating and telling off the barmaid who was working very hard single-handedly to serve a very busy bar. On two occasions he was having a go at her when she was trying to serve us and she looked so embarrassed. She was actually doing NOTHING wrong and doing a great job when the shift was clearly under-staffed. Towards the end of the evening, the landlord sat down and started drinking heavily with his mates and playing a game at the table. He was shouting out and swearing (F***) constantly. To say we were horrified would be an understatement. When our friend went to order a drink from the bar, right beside where the landlord was sat, there was nobody to serve. The landlord carried out on drinking, playing, shouting and swearing with his mates instead of serving his customer. I’ve never witnessed such appalling behaviour from a landlord and certainly won’t be returning again!

Food was dreadful, had fish and chips, chips were not chips but fries and even then it was the dregs of the bottom of the fryer, all of it greasy and unpalatable. Had a couple of scoops of ice cream after to try and sweeten the grease taste. I think it had gone by it’s use by date, it definitely tasted strange! I did not eat it all, my partner then tried it & did not finish it either. The next day followed a high fever, chills, sweats & a very very upset stomach. Ruined our last two days of our holiday. Will never come here again. NOT recommended!

Our first venture for lunch post the latest lockdown. We chose the very busy Walkhampton Inn. Despite how busy it was we were welcomed as soon as we arrived and shown a table by the very attentive staff. Whilst it was a very sunny day there was a strong easterly wind. Our request to move tables was swiftly accommodated. The staff (despite being as busy as they were), repeatedly called at our table to check that all was okay and that we had all that we required. There was a good selection of real ales and lagers. The atmosphere was great with a mix of ages in the pub garden and all the tables full. I alone had a starter (Whitebait). Our mains consisted of two steaks and a Fish and Chips. The food was plentiful and of excellent quality. I requested a rare steak and it was perfect. The chips (triple cooked) were super ("best Ive had for a long time " quoted Mother in Law). Make sure that you are hungry should you go as the portions are generous. The set up was very 'Covid compliant' with distancing, checking in etc. Overall a great experience. My only disappointment was having to leave. Excellent value for money with a starter, three main meals and drinks at less than £70.

I had baked Camembert as a starter and then home made pork and mustard pie as a main along with an excellent ale. The portions were very good and I could not have fitted in a dessert.I noticed in one review that they complained that their meal was served in takeaway boxes, however this was not the case for me. Everything was served excellently including the coffee. The WiFi was good, and thank you to the bar man for noticing I was struggling to get a signal. The only downside was the rather annoying, boring, loud student on a nearby table of 6 who continued to spout off about how clever he was, and how much he knew, or probably doesn’t know.....I trust that he took note of the high quality of food and service provided by the staff, and managed to compliment them when he left.Well recommended - so long as Mr Knowitalll isn’t there!

We booked for 2 nights but felt unable to stay after one. The place is not finished. Building and decorating stuff everywhere. Bare light (wires visible) in bathroom. No locks on toilet doors, including public loos. One light switch hanging off the wall. Glasses used by builders-- or someone-- lying around in guest areas. Fecal stains from previous guests in the en suite toilet. Mould on the walls. Damp bubbling the paintwork. Spiders' webs and live spiders in the corners. Out of date marmalade stored on the stairs ("No, we wouldn't serve it") alongside a jar of theatrical list chemicals. I felt invisible in the bar-- "table service only" seeming to be the same as "table service possible". Bar staff stuck bare fingers in used glasses to carry them (in pandemic) and then served food and drinks without washing or sanitising hands. Enjoy everyone else's saliva seemed to be the order of the day. Food was over-seasoned and over-cooked. Toilet was dirty in ensuite when we arrived and the "unisex" (ie the gents) had no loo paper or soap. For women, this means drip-dry before dinner. This, as I say, was a pub having paying guests and serving food and drink at a time of emerging from pandemic restrictions. I did not feel particularly safe eating there. I cannot think that any positive review is an honest one.

Though the outside tables were well spread out and were cleaned between customers, the staff were not using any face PPE. Our only criticism is that the food came out in takeaway boxes and wooden cutlery... Still very tasty!

We had a takeaway from the Walkhampton Inn for Father's Day yesterday (our first since lockdown began) and by golly it was good. The steak and kidney pudding was superb, the oxtail and black pudding pie was divine, the chips were excellent and it was all washed down with a lovely porter. The staff were pleasant and helpful and maintained social distance. This pub is a gem and is trying really hard to provide a good service under coronavirus restrictions. It deserves our support – and if last night was anything to go by I guarantee you will enjoy the benefits of supporting it.

Turned up and there was a mix up with our booking which was dealt with efficiently and with no fuss. Thank you.2 small fish and chips and 2 pies were ordered. The fish and chips were really good. Fish tasted fresh and batter was crispy and not greasy. Portion size was perfect. The 2 pies were short crust all round (not a stew with a lid) and were cleared off the plates with enthusiasm. They were proper pies! Chips were skin on and tasted nice.Staff were knowledgeable and friendly.Thank you for a lovely evening.

Great pub, cosy and friendly. Food is very tasty (the pies are amazing!) and plentiful and a good selection of drinks at the bar. Dogs very welcome, we have visited a few times and it never disappoints. Parking limited at the pub due to its centre of the village location but parking is available around the village itself. A definite recommend if you are visiting the beauty of Dartmoor.

Have visited this place about 5 or 6 times now being impressed with the food each and every time, unfortunately the service has let the overall experience down with a rude member of staff manning the bar with an obnoxious attitude and poor behaviour, I suspect down to a mix of poor training and an unhappiness with the job, it is a shame as the food is great but sadly let down by this factor, the last time I visited I was greeted with a very unfriendly welcome combined with an unfriendly goodbye.

A lovely warm friendly local pub. We felt very welcomed and the service was good. Typical pub fare and nice selection of local gin and beers. Nice open fire. A pub that deserves a visit - even if it’s just to take part in the ice cream challenge!

Five of us called into this pub last night. It was very quiet but we were given a warm welcome and were very impressed. We used to visit the pub years ago and were sorry when it closed. It deserves to flourish and we shall certainly call again.

After a period of closure I had not been to this nice old pub for some years. I was greeted by the enthusiastic landlord and enjoyed some excellent fish and chips and some Cornish beer.

Visited the pub as we were staying in the area. Dog friendly and we were made to feel very welcome. Food was excellent and good value. I had the steak and blue cheese suet pudding and my wife had sausage with bubble and squeak. Both good home cooked food. Pity it was the last night of our holiday otherwise we would have visited again
