Have stayed in Port Isaac many times over the past 10 years and we love it. Reason for a 3 star is down to the unpredictability of the Golden Lion. We have had some good experiences in the past but more recently not very good. It is a very popular place and consequently gets very busy. However people are allowed to sit at the bar which means it gets very crowded. A couple of times we went there was a guy sitting right in the middle of the bar with a dog on a lead who which made it really difficult to get anywhere near the bar. Only having one member of staff in the bar also meant it took ages to get served. Wobbly tables in the downstairs eating area that could do with a good clean. Not sure they wipe them down after people have eaten. We left without eating or drinking twice when we were down this year and went over to Motes instead where we received a much more professional and warm welcome - no matter how busy.

A superb spot for a pub. Beautiful surroundings and views. Lots of walks to enjoy. The pub itself is clean with plenty of room for multiple groups. It provides a thoughtful welcome to families, ramblers and particularly dog walkers. There are boot scrappers at the door and dog water bowls at every table outside. There is a good selection of drinks including beer direct from the barrels - all well kept. The food is well presented and quickly prepared. Staffing is to an appropriate level and they are friendly, swift and helpful. Pricing is about where I would expect it to be for such a popular establishment. One of my favourites.

we ordered masala fish in nan with a side salad and fries which were cold and rubbery on arrival. It took over 2 and a half hours to receive our food and that includes SEVERAL calls. We have previously had problems but gave them the benefit of the doubt. We won't be requiring their service any longer and I would urge anyone to look for a take -a -away that actually provides good service and BETTER food.

Absolutely diabolical service and food quality. Menu offered ‘seasonal veg’ with pie of the day. Turned out seasonal meant frozen carrots, broccoli and cauliflower all of which were disgustingly cold, soggy and tasteless. Disappointing given that fresh carrots, broccoli and cauliflower are so easy to cook, store and source at this time of year. Anyone who calls themselves a chef and cooks frozen veg needs to return to catering college or give up. The pie crust was very hard, too - again, probably although I’m not certain, pre-frozen. No one came to check whether we were satisfied with our meal, so I took the plates to the bar and complained. The bar staff member said ‘I’ll let chef know” but didn’t even offer us a cup of tea as recompense. Whole atmosphere was cold and inattentive… definitely wouldn’t recommend and won’t be back, despite the fact we live in cornwall

Boxing Day lunch for the family, the thought of all the work catering for all, meant a look around. Masons Arms immediately came to mind and we were not disappointed. Easy to book and all ready on our arrival. Terry, Chris, Michelle and Miles went out of their way to make it a special occasion. Starts out in timely manner, carvery was absolutely spot on and deserts. Looked after perfectly and a Fantastic price. Same again for next year I think !!

For a Christmas Day meal the place lacked a festive atmosphere with normal music playing and sky sports news on the TV. Communication about how long food would take was slow, had to ask for plates to be cleared after sitting there if over 30 mins, staff looked harassed and stressed. Have eaten out for Christmas Day in previous years at other locations and this was extremely disappointing and I would not recommend or go again.

We had a lovely family New Years Eve at the Apple Tree. Very busy but staff pulled out all the stops & couldn't do enough for us. Friendly & attentative. We had a lovely pub classics meal (baked camembert, chicken schnitzel & beef & ale pie all to be recommended). The NYE party was in full swing & 3 generations of us dancing together was great fun! A great place to spend NYE with family. Thankyou!
