They were able to accommodate us at short notice. Service was friendly and laid back. Food was very enjoyable. Nice big portions. My two friends had the pork belly and asked for more gravy. A minute later they had a large gravy boat to share. They were both very happy. So good we booked for the following night.

A beautiful pub located in Dartmouth. It is small, with only about 7 tables, and I was very lucky to nab a table so that I could order some food. Only one member of staff working one small bar so you have to be patient as she also has to go up and down the stairs for the food. A good selection of food available and as this is a CAMRA pub you have a good selection of real ales as well. I ordered the Hunters Chicken and had some Reverend James ale whilst I waited for my food. It’s a very friendly pub with an open fire, original beams and very dog friendly. My food arrived and I was very happy with how it looked. I was blown away by how it tasted and loved every single bite of it. The chicken was amazing, the bacon and sauce enhanced everything and I cleared that plate of food. Please remember that this is a very small pub, so like I did, give up your table once you have eaten and stand by the bar to enjoy the lovely atmosphere of the place and let someone else enjoy it as well. Highly recommend The Cherub.

Sometimes the best places are the ones that don't go looking to be the best. This is not a gasto, food-based establishment that wants to impress all that passes through it's doors. It's friendly, cosy, small and is also a pub for the locals. We walked in, the fire was lit, the ale selection was great and it was 50p off for any Camra members. As we sipped our beverages, the place became full with drinkers, tourists and locals all together enjoying the historic charm and friendly vibes!

Very charming old pub in a building to be believed, is the oldest building in Dartmouth ( about 1380) . tiny restaurant and kitchen on the first floor. The food was very good, service very attentive, despite there was lots to do . To us it seemed family- run by 3 generations. working and maintaining such a locality is a true challenge and deserves highest appreciation.

Been here many times. Booked Sunday lunch but contacted two days before to say Sunday lunch not available as too busy. Went to see and told only plastic 'glasses' even though we were inside but a couple of locals had real glasses. Pub was nearly empty. Ordered food but two 'home made' pies were obviously commercial, and the Pasta bake was inedible. The cook agreed the pasta was inedible and we got a refund. We go four or five times a year, but not again

Lovely friendly Manager / Chef (Trish) came to say Hi and give a doggy biscuit or 3. Ordered the Steak pie which was delicious. Nothing left on the plate in the end. Chips, pie peas and gravy of the specials board was amazing. I can't recommend the Cherub enough.

We were a large-ish group and did arrive 20 minutes late, but to be greeted by a rather surly woman saying "another 10 minutes and she'd have closed the kitchen", didn't make for a welcome atmosphere. Waitress upstairs saved the game by being much friendlier. The food was ok, but not great with the exception of the chips which were perfect. Crispy on the outside, light and fluffy on the inside. I'd return, but only if I've tried everywhere else and really needed chips!

We came here again for New Year’s Eve as we had such a fabulous time two years ago. We got our seats at 6pm as we knew it was going to be busy. We spent a lot of money near on £200 between us. The music as great and it comes to 11:15 and a bell rings. We assumed it was getting ready for count down but no. It was last orders!! We had to be out by 11:30pm! At no point did they mention that they would be closing early. Worse than that, I wrote to them via messenger as to why they closed early only to be lied to that they have always closed at 11:30. Two years ago, we were there till gone 1am and have videos of it. Totally ruined our night. Beautiful pub but totally let us down.

We were recommended the Cherub as a good venue for my birthday. It's a lovely old pub, but I guess staff shortages may have affected the service standards. The food we ordered was not cooked to acceptable standards, steak fast cooked and burnt on one side, and the T Bone pork chop was very tough. So maybe not the usual chef in service. Serving hatch populated by waitresses who were discussing personal stuff loudly. Access to the dining area is by a steep set of winding stairs that are not suitable for people with physical disabilities. No information about access is published. Staff were very polite and helpful. Lovely pub and good but limited range of ales .

Just went to the pub following a nice evening in Dartmouth. We are local to the south west and appreciate the stress locals can feel during holiday season. That said, the bar lady was extremely rude and not what we would expect from someone in the hospitality industry. We thought we’d try out this beautiful old historical pub and loved the character and obvious history of the place. After having successful lunches and dinners around the town over the first few days of our break in Dartmouth, we thought we’d give it a go. I’m sorry to say it was a complete disappointment. The food is reheated, cheap rubbish and does not do the establishment proud in the slightest. We struggled to enjoy it and we were starving, even the condiments are disgusting. What annoyed me was that prices were on par with others around there that were far, far superior. Such a shame as we really wanted to enjoy it, but sadly next time we come we will it avoid like the plague.

The place looked appealing, photos suggested a lovely pub. Quite busy when I and friends visited. Told in no uncertain terms that no one is allowed upstairs, that they weren't doing food and generally hostile greeting, when all we were doing was taking a look to see if there was any extra seating available. Didn't stay to spend our money, plenty of other places in town to enjoy. Dismal.

Sign outside today said open at 12:30. Walked through town and up the hill with my elderly mother who walks with a frame, looked inside to be told "not open yet" then a staff member collected the sign and amended it to "open at 1pm". Several people were waiting outside for it to open. Staff unwelcoming and clearly poorly organised. Was looking forward to seeing inside the building but had to go elsewhere. We then turned up for steak night, we waited at the bar while the bar man was serving someone, he then told us to go upstairs to our table, we went upstairs and were told the kitchen had closed. We asked for the manager to give us a ring and wanted our deposit back as when you pay a deposit you should be served. No phone call the next day, rang the pub and the woman said I had misheard and it must of been too noisey when there was no one in there. I have good hearing so this was definately not the case. We then had to go elsewhere for tea! What an absolute scam. Definately wouldn’t not recommend.

Went to 'The Cherub Inn', as my dad wanted a jacket potato lunch. Was met with a very unwelcoming bar staff member, who was abupt to my parents for just asking for a menu. The downstairs area was not clean and not well kept either, so I checked the upstairs and saw available tables. I was then told off by the staff member for going upstairs. I apologised to the barmaid, but couldn't tell it was not allowed, as there was no sign saying no entry for upstairs. Myself and my mother felt uncomfortable and wanted to leave. As we left, I heard a sarcastically said "bye" as we walked out (I can't say whether or not it was the bar staff member or the few people that were in there who said it). Currently sitting in The Royal Castle Hotel and have been better treated by the staff. In short, the best thing about 'The Cherub Inn' was the exit to get out.

Barmaid should rethink her career more hostility than hospitality. Stood at bar whilst she was engrossed with her friends/family, didnt acknowledge anybody once, they kissed goodbye then turned her back to clear tables, wasn't busy and just a "be right with you" would have been enough.
