Nice vegan pizza with aubergine and pesto. I hope there were more vegan options. Servers were smiley and kind. However the cleanliness could be improved. There was some liquid on one corner of our table when we arrived. Our plates weren’t super clean (we found a rice on one ‘clean’ plate).

Delicious, affordable, and good service. What more could you want?

The food was excellent. They obviously have a great chef, but they are being completely let down by the service and front of house team.

Great menú with a good variety of options for tapas style eating. The burger was great but the bread to meat ratio was a bit off, recommend making their buns a bit smaller or the patties bigger! Otherwise lovely, the calamari with yuzu salad was delish

If you don't mind eating off your neighbours plate this is a great place. But tables are too close! Food good, portions probably too large so lots of waste? or doggy bags.

Really disappointed with the food, price and service. We all ordered pizzas and we all left at least a quarter. The bases were 100% bought in pre-formed and were no better than frozen supermarket ones with that sweet, dry, biscuits consistency. Very poor when you are paying top prices. The waiting staff were efficient but not in the least bit interested - just going through the motions really. We won't be returning.

Great food, nice hustle and bustle atmosphere. The staff were very attentive and the drinks were fab. 10/10 would go again!

We arrived on time and were served very promptly by lovely waitress. Unfortunately, the order was misplaced. we waited ages, then only two of three meals turned up. Two of us ate together and we had finished by the the time the other turned up. When our food arrived we had no cutlery. We had to attract a waitress that took time and even more time before cutlery arrived by which time our food had gone warm. Ordered extra Mushrooms at £1.50 on one pizza and got one mushroom!! Shame lovely staff but not enough of them and very disorganised. Would not return.

I was glad to get a table as we hadn’t booked. Tried the alcohol free beer on draught but didn’t like it so swapped it for a zero Guinness and was fully expecting to pay for it as it was just my preference but they took it off the bill. Service was nice, atmosphere was good and the calamari was great

£22 for a burger? I’d happily pay if it was a good smash burger! But it wasn’t! Preformed from the cash and carry! Cheep mayonnaise from cash and Carry. At this price make your own it’s easy and tastier. The salmon was frozen and the miso sauce was awful! Badly seasoned and skimped on the rice! Why skimp on rice?. Disappointed with the quality overall! Staff happy and helpful. Not good overall.

Very expensive £11 for a butternut squash soup £6 for a bowl of chips £20 for what was in essence a fish finger roll and dont even think about having a drink .Very cramped seating and nothing notable about the place with run of the mill food and service I would never even think about visiting again

Lovely looking venue , but ordered pizza , asked for it to be well done and crispy , it came it was only crispy on the very edge, soggy the rest of it , true pizzas aren’t lukewarm that .

Was my partner’s birthday so we visited for some food and both had the burgers. Buns were okay but the patties were bland and the gherkins overpoweringly salty. £4 for 300ml of coke feels like a robbery. Both of us had stomach pains later into the evening and leading one of us to becoming ill. Never going back

Rumour could be so much better. It’s obviously popular but I’m not sure why. The food is very overpriced. £9 for a pudding! Just not worth it.

We had the specials and a very reasonably priced bottle of Spanish white wine. A delicious fish stew, cooked perfectly, with large plump mussels and prawns and a panko crumbed chicken burger. Good service and a very enjoyable lunch.

Been visiting Rumour for many years and seen many changes, however after last nights experience I won’t be rushing back. We ordered 5 pizzas, one being a gluten free, vegetarian pizza. When the orders arrived it turned out that the pizza was not gluten free. It was returned to the kitchen and we waited patiently for a replacement, which eventually arrived. Gluten free base - yes, vegetarian - no!!! By this time my poor friend was hungry (watching the rest of the table tuck into their dinner) and pretty fed up!! She decided to settle for a soup, surely this would be ok. And yes it was but it still took a while to arrive at the table. We got a minimal apology from the young waitress, who looked like it was her first shift but not a peep from a senior or a manager. My friend did get her soup FOC but….. What a shame - we won’t be rushing back. 😔

Went here for lunch it was lovely we both had burgers one veggie one meat both really tasty. Service was lovely attentive without out overdoing it. It was busy so a good atmosphere and really warm.

Really poor pizza, cheapest was margherita at £14. Need to make an effort with homemade dough and balances seasoning to get away with charging that kind of money.

Lovely place, lovely staff, sadly, dreadful food. I had the flat iron steak, came with very nice French fries, rocket that was, ahem, ‘drizzled’ with a balsamic glaze, read soaked! I asked for my steak to be medium rare, it came pretty much uncooked. I would normally have fillet or sirloin rare but this was raw. Sent it back, came back cooked medium, was tough, fatty and I left most of it. Came with a peppercorn sauce which was okay. I asked if there was some Dijon mustard, the young person serving our table was unfamiliar with it, I suggested it was slightly less yellow than English mustard, joking about the horrid brown stuff that used to serve as ‘French’ mustard only to end up with, yup, the horrid brown stuff. My wife ordered the jerk pork cheeks, they were tender, served with rice but had never been near some jerk seasoning. My wife had a nice negroni and we shared a bottle of Malbec. I pointed out how bad my meal had been, made no difference to the bill, couldn’t be bothered to argue, just meant no tip, which I felt bad about as all the staff had been lovely. They had also run out of vodka which meant half the cocktails were off! All in all, nice place for a drink and the small plates looked nice but probably wouldn’t go back.

Very disappointing! I ordered steak which unfortunately was very tough, only to find the replacement even worse! I tried a third meal, a pork dish on the specials menu. Unfortunately this was very bland and had no flavour. Such a shame as we have been to Rumours many times. Unfortunately the past three times we have been very disappointed with the menu and the lack of taste. Previously we had the special burger and again no flavour. Maybe the chef needs to look into adding a little seasoning to his dishes. Staff were friendly and as usual the atmosphere was lovely.

A definite go to place in Totnes - this was my latest visit and as ever the food, drinks and service were of the highest quality, as it was on my first visit back along and every time since - highly recommended!

Nice decor, friendly staff but not much initiative. Highly priced food that is very average. The burger was not particularly exciting for the cost of it. Double patty with a bit of cheese, guerkins and some sort of sweet and sour sauce they use for the pork ribs. Not hugely impressed.

Our go to lunch spot in Totnes. Gluten free options are great (the pizzas are brilliant, far better than I can do at home) but the surcharge for gf is a tiny bit much. Love the place though!

Had lunch here today with a friend, used to visit a few years ago but then moved out of the area… firstly the welcome and service were both excellent… the scallop dish with toasted sourdough was the star of my lunch… the herby, garlicky sauce was beautiful… I wish I’d ordered another portion for my main course.. please ask the chef to never change this dish 💕

Absolutely terrible burger … massive bun, 2 small patties, no cheese and 2 big gherkins!! Fries were cold. It was replaced with a pizza which I ate alone as my husband had finished his meal. I have lived in Totnes for 13 years and am moving away soon and this was our last visit to a much loved restaurant. It was my 62nd birthday and I was so disappointed.

Fantastic pizzas, amongst the best we've ever eaten. Great service and music was mercifully quiet. This restaurant is deservedly popular so you will need to book.

Has to be one of my top places to get a pizza. Their garlic mayo dip is so sooo good with the pizza but there’s been several times we’ve come in and they don’t have any or they only give a tiny pot for £2. Service is okay, they always seem busy when we come in and every time they’ve forgotten something that we’ve ordered. Other than that, it’s a great place.

The staff were very accommodating as we didn’t have a reservation. We really enjoyed the food. The pizza with gluten free base was very tasty. Excellent salad and chips. Would recommend.

We stood at an almost empty bar for almost TEN minutes before even being acknowledged! We were not the only people being completely ignored; one couple asked ‘is there any chance of a pizza?’ to be told..’we will get to you when we can!’ - ultimately, they of course left! Shambles of a business, obviously run by amateurs with no idea of what customer service is all about! For the record, when they EVENTUALLY decided to serve us a drink, it tasted off and flat! Well worth the wait…..Not!

Visited Rumour during a visit to Totnes. I had the Miso Salmon. Fantastic meal. Relaxed atmosphere and friendly staff. Highly recommend.

Couldn’t fault the service. We had our dinner at the bar and had great conversation with the bar staff. The pizzas are epic and some of the best I have outside of Italy.

We were down in Totnes for the weekend and ventured out on early on a Friday evening. We hadn't booked anywhere but liked the look of Rumour on the main high street. We were welcomed in, easily accommodated and liked the relaxed atmosphere inside. We went for a shared pizza, chips & a side salad. The 'chips' and salad arrived and looked great - the chips were actually large potato wedges and fantastic! The pizza arrived and we both thought was one of the best we've ever tasted. So fresh and good quality. Don't know about the other food on the menu but from our experience I'd be optimistic. Friendly service too, we'll definitely return when in the area again.

Normally my go to place to eat in Totnes. The food is aways great. The chicken wings are the best! I've never had a bad meal here. The food is always fresh and tasty. The venue itself is relaxed and the staff are always lovely.

Food is very good but service this evening was incredibly slow! Came in after a party without a reservation and was served 45 minutes after that party. I'm exhausted just thinking about it. What a let down!

Excellent experience, really good food, great service. My wife and I booked by phone as the online booking service stated there was no tables. Always worth a quick phone call and we are glad we did, we had a lovely evening and would definitely go back when we visit Totnes in the future.

Absolutely wonderful food and service. The staff were so friendly and accommodating and the food was top notch! The restaurant was buzzing and it had a great atmosphere. They were turning people away due to it being fully booked and this was on a Tuesday night, so I would recommend booking. We will definitely be coming here again the next time we visit Totnes.

A couple of vegan dishes on the menu which is always good. We ordered the pizza and Katsu cauliflower dish. Whilst the pizza was ok, the cauliflower was lovely....wish we had ordered 2 of them. The service was friendly and quick and the restaurant was very pleasant. We would come back.

This was the second time our party of five (two boys) ate lunch in two weeks. The menu is diverse and accommodating. The boys enjoyed pizza and chips. The ladies had fresh scallops and ordered more! I had tabouli, and it was terrific. The servers are prompt and competent, and I can see the chef keeping a watchful eye. Excellent quality in a classic Totnes funky environment.

A nice enough place, and I enjoyed the food. It's just a pity they put so much emphasis on lager and modern IPA drinkers at the expense of the more mature beer drinkers. If you like ales, this is not the place for you.

I've seen rumour wine go through many incarnations in the past 40 or so years.....the present owners seem to me have rekindled the atmosphere I remember from years ago.....the guys and girls who work front of house and the talented chefs in the kitchen give me hope that once again rumour wine bar is back on track. Naturally, prices are a bit higher (confusingly with the price of their beers) , but otherwise the food is great and consistent......I recommend it.

First visit here and loved it. Had the rumour burger which was delicious and the girl that served us was lovely. Will be back, thank you!

I visited Rumours with my sister in law. We had pre booked a table. We arrived slightly early. Not a problem. Met with a lovely welcome. The table was perfectly situated. We both decided on pizza. Absolutely delicious 😋 😍. We both commented on how good the pizzas were. Extremely filling! Service was on point. Prompt, polite, and efficient. Good beer and wine. Could not fault in any way. Will definitely return ❤️

Ate here twice during my stay in Totnes. They had very good pizzas with lovely wine selection. First night I got the olives and the little pig, second night was the halloumi fries and a chef's special pizza. Prices were reasonable.

They knowingly use mozzarella containing animal rennet but claim that it is vegetarian. Came here for pizza. My partner is vegetarian so we asked staff if the mozzarella on their pizzas is vegetarian as the menu claims it to be, and was assured emphatically that it is. It was then revealed to contain animal rennet (obviously not remotely vegetarian). We received no apology for this. My partner ordered a salad instead. We politely raised this issue with management who were rude and unsympathetic. It’s pretty disgraceful to be advertising food as vegetarian when it isn’t. You’d expect restaurants today to be more on the ball with this, especially in Totnes where there is an above average number of vegetarians and vegans. I emailed the owner to share our experience and suggest they switch to a vegetarian mozzarella or change the menu to reflect that their pizzas are not vegetarian friendly. Their response was: "We are not a vegetarian or vegan restaurant." They went on to explain that most vegetarians would be happy to eat cheese with animal rennet in it, which is a ridiculous assumption to make. Some of the worst service I've received from a restaurant. We won't be going back. EDIT: thought I'd add a screenshot of the restaurant's response to my review. Professional.

Just had the chef special pizza. OMG it was probably the best pizza I have ever had. Must have been a whole bulb of roasted garlic and half a jar of sun dried tomatoes on my pizza 😋🤤

One of our favourite places to go once in a while. It's always a very popular venue in Totnes. It can get quite cozy at very busy times. Best to probably book a table in advance if possible as it is popular.

We stopped of for an impromptu lunch and what a great treat it was. Staff were delightfully helpful and cheerful. Dog friendly. A rustic table top added to a modern and yet conventional decor and atmosphere. This is an 'oik' free place and long may it stay that way. Quiet and reserved with quick and polite service. A bowl of the most wonderfully soft and large Gordal olives and a wild mushroom and ham pizza to share with a side of chilli pineapple - (yes you read it correctly and it was divine). No time pressure and all in all a deserved five stars across to board. Toilets.goid. I will be back.

I have been in the UK for 8 years, and this was the best pizza I have had! The staff were extremely accommodating as we arrived before they started food, they made sure we had a table and were all super friendly!

Chef needs customer service training shouting at customers in the middle of the restaurant. Horrible. the rest of the staff were nice.

Rumours is very nice but the photos are of a Artesian chocolate company which j must say is excellent prices good and delicious chocs and some are vegan ( plus j love the name 😆)

Beautiful food and the set of the bar and eating area is lovely. We had a very warm and friendly waitress and it was quick service once they took our order. Did take a while to get a drink which is the only reason for 4 star service. Really enjoyed it.

I absolutely loved the Rumour Burger! It had pure meat that wasn't greasy at all. The bread had a seedy texture that added an extra layer. The chips were perfectly cooked too. On top of that, the service was fast and the staff made me feel welcome. Overall, it was an amazing dining experience!

If you’re in the area this place is an absolute must! Food is some of the best we‘ve had in a very long time. We had the Korean chicken wings, baked feta and scallops to start, followed by the veal burger with manchego and seafood chowder. As well as the excellent food the staff are extremely friendly and helpful. Keep up the excellence team, we’ll be back in the summer when we get married in Totnes.

Really great restaurant, had the pizza with aubergine and cauliflower katsu for main and both were fantastic, lots of great vegetarian options. Our dessert was the strawberry and vanilla creme brûlée and it was one of the best desserts I’ve ever eaten, amazing. Staff were super friendly, drinks selection was very good.
