We are really sad to see this wonderful pub go downhill so fast. We have been visiting Polruan twice a year for the past 25 years with the Lugger Inn always being a brilliant and intrinsic part of our holiday. This year the bar area was chilly, the staff were uninterested and the welcoming log fires all closed off. We did not book for our early evening meal but with 11 empty tables we thought ordering food would not be a problem. We were advised that they were fully booked but we could order from the takeaway menu. We duly did this but had to leave our table in an empty pub to sit outside on the quay side to eat our food in the cold to then return to our table back in the pub to finish our drinks (absolutely ridiculous). The food and portions were of dubious quality. Very sad to say they score just one star from us. Please bring back roaring log fires, welcoming staff, eating in the bar area and a warm cosy atmosphere.

Ok, so lovely pub, very friendly and helpful bar staff, brilliant that they offer take away food for when people turn up last minute who fancy a bite to eat .... it's just a shame that bite might not be to everyone's taste. Some might enjoy this food more than others but to me it was just lacking flavour. I've no desire to tarnish this place as there was nothing specifically to criticise, but sadly nothing to praise either. Hope your experience differs. Fyi, we had the 4oz burger, moving mountains burger, cheesy fries and truffle mac and cheese, £32 ish including a pint of coke

We had a meal at The Lugger tonight (25 Sept) and were served by Max. A very personable young man who was working on his own in both the bar and restaurant. There were already 5 tables in use in the restaurant when we arrived. He dealt with everyone efficiently and in a timely manner. We were not left waiting for long for our drinks or food. By the way, the food was good too!

Didnt eat here but it’s a great little pub in Polruan to enjoy some local beer or cider before getting the ferry back to Fowey. Nice and traditional inside without being too rustic. Only downside is no outside space but that seems at a premium in and around Fowey!

What I hate about The Lugger is their inconsistency - one minute the advertise they do takeaways and you can eat in the bar area without booking. They next minute you go in early on a Friday evening when most tables in the bar are empty and they have made a decision to do no takeaways, or walk-in food. They never advertise these decisions in advance and change their minds all the time. Previously I have checked at lunch time and been assured I can get a takeaway that evening, give in at 6pm and told no! When it is empty and the kitchen staff aren't busy refusing to do a takeaway for 1 is just very poor service.

We called in for a pint having caught the ferry over from Fowey. A really warm welcome from the landlord and a fine selection of local beers to choose from. The menu looked superb, and although we didn't eat I did catch sight of dishes being taken to diners and the food looked delicious. The upper seating area is so well presented and cosy with a great view of the harbour. Will definitely make a point of eating here next time. The pub is also only a very short walk from the castle ruins. Definitely well worth calling into this lovely old pub.

After visiting this pub regularly for the last fifteen years we were sad and disappointed on this latest visit for drinks. The bar area was dirty, tables unwiped, unwashed glasses all over the bar despite the bar area not being busy . We were horrified to see staff consuming sandwiches, eating cupcakes and chips which they were dipping in mayo whilst serving customers with no evidence of handwashing whatsoever. What a poor reflection on this once lovely pub. Let’s hope the owners are able to get some adequate training in soon and things will improve.

Worst food we have had in Cornwall. Not organised, gave multiple orders to the wrong people. Who then opened them and could have done anything to them. Took them back and redistributed. Great place to stay in Cornwall. The room looks recently decorated and was very clean. The terrace outside was a great place to sit and drink coffee and watch the sun set. The inn is close to the ferry to Fowey. The car park is up a steep hill but a quick trip down when you first arrive. The roads to Polruan are very narrow and it might make sense for you to park in Fowey and take a ferry over. One recomendation: check to see what the check out process is when you check in. No one was there to check me out.

We went for a drink here, though it's a nice enough place inside, a pint, 2 fruit juices and 3 packets of crisps cost over £17!!!! We later ordered 2 large fish & chips for takeaway. We love the Lugger in Polruan, especially its ever-present, smiling, helpful bar lady, but cannot mislead. It's great as a pub or for a takeaway tea, and invaluable for its frozen ready meals for the newly arrived, but disappointing as a restaurant. Our evening food, for the price, ranged from quite good to quite disappointing. The fish curry particularly was a slurry of coconut milk with four prawns and three chunks of haddock (for £23). The chicken burger was "unspectacular" and the pork belly dreary. Only the fish and chips had a rave review from our party of four. It was very busy, and a former employee in for a drink was drafted to help serve, and couldn't keep the orders straight. Unfortunately it's the only evening meal in town...

Impossible to book a table via their telephone booking system. It starts by taking you through a series of questions answered by your keypad then says- sorry we cannot book your table please phone this alternative number. You proceed to phone the alternative only to get the same message although it then states you are being referred to the staff, then cuts you off. So I then phoned again and left a message. 4 days later still not had a return phone call. I would not usually leave such a bad report for this type of thing, however for them not to even call me back is appalling. Maybe they don’t need the business!!

Location just on Polruan quay is great, with easy access across the water by frequent small boat passenger ferry to Fowey. South West Coat Path goes directly in both directions, so easy for walking. Eat in on one evening (Sunday). No issues, we both had catch of the day which was a generous and just correctly cooked (not over) thick pollock fillet.

This is a very old pub so not a fancy place but the welcome was warm to both humans and dog. We had varied reactions to our food. The burger was nothing special but the curry was good and the roast beef delicious although sadly they had no Yorkshire pudding. Churros were cooked in too hot oil and there was a faint taste of fish. The staff were lovely but there were not enough of them and so service was very slow. Our meal was spoilt by people at the next table who seemed determined to find fault with everything. The staff dealt calmly and politely with them. Friendly, great setting and decent pub food. We didn’t stray from pub classics and what we had was as good as you would expect. However the whole experience was marred by the smell of cooking fat that seemed to resonate through the place, to the extent I probably wouldn’t go back. Perhaps it was where we were sitting but we were not far from the bar in the central part.

I haven't been to a restaurant where the Chef visits the cash and carry when there are reservations and customers have to wait for him to return. May be as a result service was rushed as my seafood platter was a disaster. Fish over cooked, mussels that resembled peanuts, not worth what I paid. Shame as it's a fab location.
