Student pub, with friendly staff, but poor decor and no atmosphere. Chain pub menu with nothing interesting and nothing at all for my gluten free daughter. It is a pity as a lovely location, just poor management!

Excellent food, many types of beer. Friendly staff and a pleasant, relaxed atmosphere. Highly recommended!

Great service lovely food and beer

I often visit the Royal Oak due to its great beer garden and brilliant hospitality. I recently visited the beer garden however I unknowingly left my wallet behind. The staff member Lia went above and beyond to try and reconnect me with my wallet. Due to the great service of the staff I have my wallet back in perfect condition. Will always be a returning customer, thank you again Lia.

We called in at The Royal Oak around 4.30 on a sunny Friday after spending an afternoon on Gloucester Road. The female member of staff approached us refusing to even look in our direction, I said "Hi" and was given a scowl in return. As you can see from photo my pint of Coke was as short as the bar staff.....shame as the beer garden was perfect on a sunny afternoon.

Been coming here for a few years, by far the best pub in horfield and Bristol in general!! Everyone here is so welcoming and smiley, the food is brilliant and the drinks even better. And even better they have student discount !!

What a gem hidden in plain sight! An impulsive visit for a wholesome meal. We had an awesome lunch with really tasty food and fantastic friendly service. Great prices too. Loved the huge beer garden out the back. Will definitely be back.

I've been coming here for quiet sometime as it's local. Never had a bad experience, the beer and pints are good. My dog loves rolling around on the astro turf out the back. It's his favourite pub by far.

Fantastic pub, new manager Becca is a delight as is the team, Zoe was fab & whenever I'm in the area I'll stop in for a pint, (or coffee if it's a little early) perhaps enjoy a nice burger and chips if I'm hungry. Busy but great atmosphere for rovers matches, bar copes well though. Oh and the gardens nice, perfect for a summer pint

Great pub serving great food. Friendly staff and a very warm welcome. Child friendly and nice and clean. They have a pool table and take cash, so that's a bonus. Look forward to trying their Sunday roast 😋. The food we had was amazing so will be back for sure.

Fantastic pub, great range of drinks and the staff are always welcoming and friendly. The manager Becca (?!) is always around and always upbeat and enthusiastic. We have been several times and it is always an enjoyable experience.

Fantastic pub with a great vibe. Good selection of drinks, we had an aspalls and a lager. I had the vegan burger and my partner had the mixed grill. All really good food and great value. The staff made us free el really welcome and the manager was just charming! We will definitely be back again soon.

Had a roast dinner here, it didn’t taste bad but the potatoes and the yorkshires didn’t seem freshly made. gave it a 4 star for the fact that you can have unlimited trimmings like roast potatoes and yorkshire puddings to fill you up and the nice lady serving us gave us extra plate fulls in the middle of the table. unfortunately only got a very small bit of meat with the dinner but with the extra trimmings it kind of makes up for it.

The best Sunday Roast I’ve ever had. My sister thought the same. We were absolutely blown away by how delicious every single aspect of the lunch was and huge portion for a really reasonable price. Service from the lads working was also really good, efficient and friendly. Lovely pub too in a nice location, loads of TVs too so can imagine it’ll be a good place to watch the 6 nations. Will 100% be back.

Great first experience. I was most impressed by the January £5 meal options. I wasn't expecting much for that price however, I had the chicken wrap with chips, it was absolutely amazing! Everything about it was fresh and a first class quality.

Went to have food and drink with my wife and son before he went back to uni. The table reserved for us was directly under a loud speaker making it impossible to hear anything. We asked if we could move and was told to help ourselves. We moved but couldn't find anywhere where the music wasn't blasting out. People on other tables were shouting their conversations so they could hear each other. The volume on the music then went a little bit louder so we left without eating. I will not be going to that place again. Dissatisfied doesn't even cover it.

Came in here with some friends at the weekend and we had a lovely time. The atmosphere was great and the pints were of high quality. Special thanks to Teddy who looked after us throughout our time there and was very accommodating to us all. Will definitely return.

To be honest I have had better pie and mash. Was lacking seasoning big time and the gravy was bisto!Veg was carrots parsnips and red onion. Mash was not creamy and was a bit dry really

Dropped in for lunch and a couple of drinks before shopping. Good range of wines, beers, ciders and lagers. I had the Proper Job which was well kept, clear and delicious. The food was tasty and filling (Hunters Chicken). All in all, really well run pub and one we go back to when we're in that part of the Gloucester Road.

I rarely leave bad reviews but this restaurant was completely unacceptable. Firstly, drinks were forgotten, then it took over an hour to receive our roast. During this time there was no apology and no acknowledgement. When receiving our food, there again was no apology, no one came to check if the food was ok. They didn’t even ask how it was when was received our bill. They took off the service charge, but think that’s acceptable? The staff have zero customer service. The whole place needs a shake up.

I called here with a friend on a Friday night in November and quiet early and had a very nice meal - food was nice and just the right portion size - this was my first visit here and I have lived in Bristol for ages but it has always had a good reputation and I was not disappointed - keep up the good work

Worst Sunday roast I have ever had. Do not come here for a roast. The veg is all boiled to oblivion and bland, and comes with a tiny amount of overcooked meat with roast potatoes the size of sauté potatoes. Presented awfully like a school dinner, except a school dinner roast has more flavour! Avoid at all costs. Only redeeming factor was the good service and kind staff. Really expected more from this pub having come here many times for drinks before.

This is the worst roast dinner i have ever had !!! We turned up on time to a very cold pub, not a great start. Ordered the roast dinners at 1:15 (they opened at 12pm) for them to say they had ran out of turkey which three out of us six wanted ?? Chose pork and paid and then was told there was an hour wait so we sat in the cold pud for an hour and finally out slop was served! Veg was not just under cooked was not cooked shocking !! Not much meat on plate no stuffing it was horrendous, complained and got refund and left never to return !!!!

This place is comically bad. We went in on a Sunday and the football was playing. Fair enough. After waiting 25 minutes in what was supposed to be a queue, finally got served. It seemed like the pub may have been understaffed which is again, fair enough. We ordered two pints of half orange juice half lemonade, Korean chicken skewers and a plate of chips. After waiting nearly 50 minutes, the chicken looked anemic and was served with an inedible 'korean sauce' and raw green pepper. (No sign of the green salad). The chips weren't actually too bad, until I decided to pour vinegar on them. The vinegar bottle was filled to the brim with dead fruit flies which covered my chips. Then to top it off the drinks were clearly made with stale orange juice. At that point we just had to laugh at how much of a clown show the actual afternoon was. I kindly received a refund for my chips, my partner left that disgrace of a plate at the table and we left. I think it is safe to say that we will never ever return.

Avoid this pub unless you want a vey diaspointing sunday lunch,it looks nothing like the photos,be warned. This was by far the worst sunday lunch i have ever eaten.The potatoes were tiny like childrens roasts and hard, very small amout of meat made to look larger by hiding packet mash under it. The veg which was alo a childs portion came from a packet and was hard and uncooked. Crackling the size of a toothpick seriously bad, tasteless gravy, the peas were edible. anad all this for 15 quid???

Came specifically for the kids play area which is sadly no longer there. Disappointing roast.

Such a disappointing roast. Hand carved sirloin was incredibly thinly, machine sliced topside or similar. Every item appeared to be reheated frozen food. The mushroom wellington was a very pale looking pasty.

I have eaten here previously about two years ago many times and the food was excellent but sad to say I was disappointed today. Starters of goujon chicken and garlic mushrooms ( sauce served in a plastic tub) felt and tasted straight out of Iceland. My husbands main of steak was good but my chicken tikka masalla was pathetic. 5 perfectly square bits of chicken in a watery sauce and too much rice and the smallest shop bought naan I have ever seen. I had asked for the duck which they were out of and then cheese and crackers which was off. Am currently sat here looking at a table of leftovers which has been sat there for an hour... staff polite though and place clean.

Took two friends there for a mid day meal. Sad to say we were the only people there, please support your local pub !!!! No loud music so great to be able to enjoy conversation. Excellent, reasonably priced pub food, my steak and salad were very good, all prepared to order and fresh. Good , friendly service and somewhere a woman on her own could safely visit. I will certainly be back. A change from the ridiculously expensive Glos Road Cafes.
