Full lulas breakfast was bacon cooked like cardboard, over cook sausages, snotty fried egg , cold beans , tiny amount of mushrooms, and half a tomato. Served with the smallest slice of very hard sourdough toast. To be fair the server brought more bacon when I ask , which was a selection of under and over cooked slices . No one asked how the food was ?!? We sat with dirty plates in front of us Until we left ! Never again! Shame , as it’s on our doorstep!

Came here for a family sunday lunch. The place has a nice coastal vibe with great views over the dunes to the sea. But the food was dreadful, the roasts were served on cold plates covered in gelatinous, tasteless gravy, the brisket was burnt and you can get a better yorkshire pudding from Lidl. I had the fish and chips, its hard to do badly but the chef pulled it off. One of us had the chowder, it was thin and had barely any seafood in it, the waitress gave us a knife and fork to eat it with. Whoever is managing this place should be ashamed of themselves, its chaotic and theres no attention to details. There were no drinks menus on the tables and not enough cutlery, the water dispensers were empty. To cap it off there was a Jack Johnson tribute act making the most of his moment in the spotlight, too loud and intrusive making conversation difficult. This place could be a real gem but needs serious changes.

Firstly it's called Lula not Rockpool! We ordered 2 x Dogs i.e. Hotdogs 🌭 one Vegan £12 one Meat £13 both advertised with fried onions served in a brioche and fries... sounded good! We received them without onions! No brioche! It's just a basic hotdog roll! Sausage basic vegan! Meat one, okay, chips were fine! No cutlery! No napkins! Mayo bottles all empty, took one back to the waitress she placed it back on the side table for the next customer to use, lol... A waste of our hard earned money would never use this place again!!! A joke!!!

Sunday lunch took 1hr 35 mins to arrive from time of ordering! Looked like the Lula manager/owner was eating Sunday lunch with friends and family and having all the attention from staff. At no point did any member of staff apologise for the wait or update us until many tables were all quizzing where their food was…. We were told there maybe a 40 minute wait but it was ridiculous! Place was really shabby inside… dirty walls, stacks and stacks of dirty glasses in the coffee making area and literally hardly anyone working there… To give the chef their due… when the food did arrive the Sunday roast was AMAZING! great flavour combinations. Some of the sauces for the roast were served in naff cardboard pots… for the look of the place this felt cheap. Live singer outside was great… Lula management sort it out…. You’ve got a great location and a chef that can cook amazing food… but the rest is pants….

This is the second parking ticket I ve received from Rockpool car park. The first one was when the machine wasn't working and now more recently I received another fine despite paying for parking. Even if you pay for a ticket, if the registration number is not recognised by the machine on exit you will get a £100 ticket from Amtrac. Amtrac don't send the initial parking letter, only the Reminder so this means you cannot appeal within the 14 days. It's basically a scam. Rockpool need to take responsibility for their parking. I paid £200 for a £100 meal.

Went to sample the ribs. These were well cooked but could have had some more sauce. At £14 with coleslaw but no side OK. BUT£13 for a glass of wine means we will not be going again. (£6 for beer). You also have to pay for the car park and claim back. Left in the dark absolutely no lighting of the car park which is full of potholes and puddles. Don't know how this can survive the winter financially without emets to rip off

For a ''Karen's Diner' attitude in Cornwall, Lulas offers the charm and personality of a St Ives seagull charging you tourist prices for the pleasure. What was a local gem is now dirty and overpriced with staff who acted as if they did not want to be there. Every sticky table and surface had dirty plates and glasses piled high Seriously, just skip it until they sort it out. So much wasted potential.

We arrived at 8PM on a Monday in August and asked if we could order food for takeaway. I was told food will only be served if you have booked a table. I wasn't sure how this was relevant as I wanted a takeaway but anyhow I queried if I could book a table on the spot and then order food. I was told the table cannot be booked now and they don't have any availability.....The place was virtually empty but somehow they don't have any availability 🤔 I have seen many "candy shops" in London which don't sell an ounce of candy.. this place gave me the same vibes when I was told there is no availability in a restaurant that is almost empty. Won't be returning anytime soon.

Not a great experience on Friday night, 9th Aug. Food was ok, chips pretty cold, pasta under the hot lamp probably too long. Service was pretty bad, no one seemed overly interested, no one checked on the food to see if everything ok and no one cleared plates. It wasn't overly busy but they may have been short staffed? Won't rush back for food. It's a shame as there is loads of potential and it's a great location. Good live music and wine nice and cold.

Where do I start! On arrival the place wasn’t too busy but tables were overflowing with dirty crockery. A guy who appeared to be the owner, spent much of his time tending to the table umbrellas rather than helping staff to empty tables. At this point he appeared happy to engage in conversation about LULAs and its relocation. Despite there being plenty of staff, they were stressed and unfriendly. Non of the staff were telling the customers the price of the bill and were just presenting the card readers. I heard a few customers questioning the prices. When ordering food, customers weren’t told to collect their cutlery so when food finally arrived they were then instructed to collect cutlery themselves from the bar area. The cutlery trays were among a mountain of dirty crockery. Our food arrived cold so I returned it to the bar area. I had to speak to 4 staff members to arrange a refund. At no point did any staff member ask me what the problem was, offer to rectify the problem or apologise. I spoke to the guy who appeared to be the owner but he was very uninterested and unhelpful. He was happy to engage with customers that were complimentary but faced with a complaint was a different story completely. A front of house is really missing. We live locally and appreciate summer can get busy, this shouldn’t result in poor service. We were frequent visitors to LULA’s when it was situated in Hayle but it seems that since it has been relocated to larger premises it has lost its love. We have visited LULAs 3 times since relocation and each time have come away disappointed, sadly we won’t be visiting again.

We were very much looking forward to our family get together at The Rockpool. I'm afraid to say it was a real disappointment. There was no table service which for a beach bar is acceptable albeit annoying but given this you do need to get the basics right. The food was so sporadic in its arrival that several of our party had finished before others were served. The Sunday menu was limited. There didn't appear to be any senior leadership of a young team and upon paying the team at the bar had no idea how to calculate the split of the bill. In the end I had to explain how the total needed to be split. Such a shame because the location is amazing and the potential huge.

I visited today with a friend for lunch. We both left very disappointed and even disgusted. We were not greeted as we arrived and we asked where we could sit and then where we could find menus. The whole place was dirty, tables filthy, cobwebs all over the ceiling. I decided against ordering food from the kitchen and just had one of the cakes from the counter. My friend just ordered a portion of chips, these were brought to the table without any cutlery or offer of sauces, she went up and asked for some salt and vinegar and sauces. I had to go up and ask for some sugar for my coffee and then for a spoon to stir it with. We just left like we were an inconvenience for being there. I definitely won’t be returning or recommending and I’d advise others to avoid.

Gorgeous location that we visited after a surf lesson. The food didn’t take long to arrive but when it did it wasn’t great. I'd been wanting to visit Lula shack for a year since we found it last year and it was closed down, it looked amazing online, when we found that it was back open we decided we'd visit. To be honest though it didn't live up to how the social media pages bigged it up, food was just your standard type you could cook at home, hot drinks were cold and it was cramped inside. The waitresses looked like they didn't want to be there. Parted with near on £75 for 2 adults and 2 kids, one main meal each and a drink each. And the burgers don't come with chips which you think would be standard, I'd read a few bad reviews and kinda wish I'd taken those on board.

This place needs a visit from a Scottish celeb chef but I suspect even he would struggle to sort the problems. Uninterested, non communicative staff who quite obviously don't want to be there. Small portions are their speciality. I waited 5 to 6 minutes on arrival before anyone acknowledged me. Wasn't shown to our table, which was pre- booked. No one explained we had to order at the bar, no one brought us a menu. We arrived at 7pm food arrived at 8pm. It was almost thrown on to the table. The chowder was supposed to be a main at £15.50. With 2 prawns, 4 mussels and a cream sauce it would have made a passable starter at 6 quid. At 8.45 the dishes were cleared by a member of staff who said nothing, didn't ask if we had finished or if everything was satisfactory. We asked to see the dessert menu but were told the kitchen had closed some time ago. The hours of opening are clearly displayed as 9pm. If it was up to me we would not have paid more than half of the £180 bill for 5 people. Absolutely appalling. We won't be back.

In a sense I feel bad for rating it only a two star, but it is necessary given the experience had today. To clarify, the food is really top tier, and my partner and I have eaten here last year, and I had an amazing sea food mac and cheese, and my partner had an incredible pulled pork hot dog but it is the fact we were unable to order food at all due to miscommunication on serving times. No complaints about the food whatsoever. However, arriving at 5:25pm and approaching the bar, we were told that food had stopped being served (Tuesday night, kitchen supposed to close at 6 according to the website). The waitress serving told us that the kitchen had stopped serving food from 5. Although we had only half an hour to spare from when we got there until food had stopped serving (according to the website), it felt a little dishonest of the staff to tell us that the kitchen was closed at 5. Not a major issue we can go and get food from elsewhere, but in future if possible, can you change your timings of kitchen closure to 5pm if that was what it was meant to be and state that online?

Came here on New Years day with friends and family. Ordered the crispy bacon and cheese skins salad. The food came out promptly, however was very underwhelming. The topping had just been plonked on the top of the potato and warmed through. No crispy skins and no salad!? In the end we had to ask two separate members of staff where the salad was, each giving puzzled looks.. Eventually a bowl of very unappetizing past it's best salad was presented to us. (I'm assuming to be shared between two) by this time the potatoes were cold as it had taken so long. With the member of staff saying that usually it doesn't come with salad so they were unaware. (Some form of apology!?) With uneaten plates. (Luckily the other half of the party ordered chips,so we were able to eat some of theirs! We went up to pay and told the staff how disappointed we were with X2 of the meals. Nothing was done to rectify the issue, nor an apology given. We were told they would pass the feedback onto the kitchen. We understand it's New Year Day and staffing was probably limited, however the food really was poor at best. Please run a limited menu next time and better still train your staff and chef on the menu. If you can't deliver, stick to just chips and coffee! Luckily the coffee was decent. We'll give this place a miss in future.

Only downside, it was busy and they struggled with the service. Food was 1+ hour (told it was going to be 40 mins) but it was spot on when it came out. The service was good and friendly despit being slightly overwhelmed. They could have been better accommodating to our family with young children, especially with such a long wait. Had to get our own high chair, serving glass cups standard plates and cutlery to a 1 year even though we found children's cutlery on the side with the sauces and napkins. Not reading the signals of a hungry toddler etc... Was also told no need to book on the phone and was lucky to get a table when we arrived. Then the table was given away to another family when I got my son out of the car, was all a bit chaotic.

After being a fan of Lula's Shack on they estuary in Hayle, we thought we'd try the Rockpool for Sunday lunch and boy are we glad we did. The plate with your protein arrives (I had the pork belly & the wife had the Brisket), and you think that's not enough, then the veggies arrive, and again you think I'm not sure that's enough. Boy how wrong were we. The food is really really good, the roasted beetroot was something new to me, and a revelation indeed. The Pork and the Brisket was beautifully cooked, I could have eaten the meal again and again apart from the fact I was so full. Couldn't even fit in a desert. The live music was very very good, such a change from background music from a speaker. Such a great little place. Can't wait to see what the big secret news is to replace the old Shack. Lula's at the rockpool, or Lula's anywhere don't hesitate to book a table or drop in, you wont be disappointed by the food in anyway.

It's difficult to know how to rate Lula at the Rockpool. The food was great, we had the Prawn PoBoy, Spicy wings and Pulled pork with chips. All excellent and up to the standard we've had before. The service was good and the staff were friendly. However, it was all ruined by the 'entertainment' if I have to listen to Bruce Springsteen and Bob Marley being massacred then you could have the decency to do it quietly, without a PA. We would have moved but the outer bar was freezing cold.

Great place but you run the risk of getting a huge parking fine from a corrupt parking company. Got a fine for parking there despite paying for a ticket. Won appeal as I kept the kept the ticket. Then got another one for the day later, again I had a valid ticket.

1st time visiting after Lula had moved from Hayle and we were not disappointed! Great selection of food, especially seafood and a huge selection of beer. We were met with friendly service and the decor looks very clean, tidy and modern. Definitely recommend the Lula Seafood chowder and the Lobster Mac & Cheese. Will definitely be returning!

Slightly disappointed. Having eaten at the original lulas I was excited to eat here. Food was not on par with original and the ribs although tasty weren't the best. The staff not very friendly and seem more bothered about hanging around with their friends/partners who on both occasions I visited are sat at a big table near the bar. Definitely does not have the original lulas vibe. Sorry.

We turned up just after midday after a dog walk hoping for a sunday roast. We were not disappointed, asked if we had booked which we hadn't! We were taken to a table in the main restaurant and our dogs were welcomed to. Having been before in the summer and had a lovely time we were excited to try the roast with a creole twist. While we waited we were entertained by a singer who was so chilled I felt I could spend the day there. The roast was simply lovely, and a really nice change to the usual, thoroughly enjoyed by us both and plenty. We would definitely go back, lucky we are local! The girls were all so lovely front of house, it cant be ready in such a busy popular location.

A welcome beacon at the end of a very blustery wet walk. Staff are welcoming and friendly and it is clear it is frequented by locals regularly. We only had snacks but the food we had was delicious.

We came here for lunch recently. The staff were very nice although the meal was not very good for £20 per person would consider coming again.

Issued with a £100 fine for overstaying a paid parking session in the Rockpool's car park by a few minutes. Our toddler was having a meltdown. Car park was 3/4 empty at the time. Appeal rejected. Disgraceful. Avoid these profiteers!

Thought we'd have Sunday lunch, booked and went. The following has to be viewed with the knowledge that we went after 2pm. So... my beef roast (fancy oriental marinade etc) was appalling, actually dried up, I have never sent food back before, and the replacement wasn't much better, but too hungry to ask for another dish. If what you have to serve isn't up to scratch don't serve it, tell me it's finished. My wife's wasn't much better. We went for lunch the following day with friends, one who has played at their other restaurants, and it wasn't much better. My friend's chowder, he's allergic to gluten, was sloppy and served with a bit of sliced bread. All round all of our food was unsatisfactory and the staff don't seem to know anything about food or proper service and the one behind the bar/till couldn't be bothered to raise a smile of welcome or even apologise for our experience. We have eaten well at their other restaurants, sufficient to return time & again, and unless this place has a thorough shake up we will not be going again, what the chef (f there is one) was thinking sending that food out is beyond me. I can only think that the rave reviews were written by friends or were given a free lunch. I really regret writing this and I could have written more in the same vein.

Ordered coffee from disinterested bar staff who then forgot to get it made. 20 mins later, after getting little response from original server, one of their colleagues got us sorted. Coffee was OK at best. Shame, amazing location and looks like it would have a good evening vibe.

Great location here to stop for food and drink. Stunning views. A little expensive but worth it in the sunny weather. Did not find the staff very welcoming instead were focused on letting people know that they need to buy a parking ticket within 10 minutes as the car park was owned by someone else. ANPR camera for the parking. Cash or card payment accepted. Don’t be fooled by the Maryland cookies on the bar at £1 each…

Third visit in as many months, this time for Sunday lunch with family. Everything six stars. Staff were fast to get our drinks, and our food was out in 15 minutes. Four amazing roast dinners with plenty of food. We were also impressed with the huge dish of roasted vegetables. More than enough. We left feeling happy and satisfied and surprised at how cheap it was! And without exaggeration all four of us commented it was one of the best Sunday roasts we’d had in a long while. Really happy. Thank you.

We went for Sunday lunch. Had been regular customers at Lulas north quay and so disappointed when it closed. Didn’t have high hopes for Lula kitchen at rock pool but it was AMAZING. We had Sunday roasts which were lush and drinks & desserts. Music by @wavemachine was lovely too. Highly recommend and will be back.

Last week my wife and I were driving from Newquay to St Ives via Hayle and we stopped to have a late lunch at the Rockpool. My wife went to pay for the parking and I went in to the restaurant to see if they had a table for two and were still serving lunch as it was about 2.20pm. I was told we could eat but the waiting time would be about 40 minutes. My wife and I were both very hungry and there was nowhere nearby where we could eat so we decided to take the table. The menu looked very good and we did wait a long time but the spicy calmari and clam chowder were very good. As we were continuing to wait my wife went back out to the car park to pay for another hours parking as our original hour was about to run out. We did this knowing that the restaurant would reimburse the £3 car parking fees on showing the tickets when paying the restaurant bill. This we did and departed. Just over a week later I have received a parking penalty from a company that manages the car park called ARMTRAC SECURITY. I am angry that we are being told we did not pay for parking when my wife went and paid TWICE during our stay and the restaurant even reimbursed us for the car par fees. But what angers me even more is that there are very clear notices outside the restaurant which claim that the restaurant has nothing to do with the car park and the ARMTRAC who manage it. However in preparation for me contesting the penalty I have discovered that the landowner of the car park is The Sandsifter Hotel. Guess what: the Rockpool used to be the Sandsifter Hotel so ARMTRAC are administering the car park on behalf of Rockpool. how disingenious to say they have nothing to do with the the car park. When I phoned the management of Rockpool today to ask who the landowner was the duty manager said she was not aware of who the landowner was and advised me to look on the UK land registry which I did. If ARMTRAC reject my appeal then my lunch at Rockpool would have cost me £150. Never again.

Was looking for a new place for breakfast and was quite disappointed with the choices and portion size. I ordered pancakes and it was 3 small pancakes for £8, looked more like a child’s portion and the mushrooms on toast seemed more like soup. It’s a shame as it’s a great location and looks great inside and a bonus being dog friendly but a revised menu would be great.
