Popped in for Sunday lunch over the bank holiday weekend. It was very busy and we were told we would have 30/45 mins wait for the food. we sat in the restaurant in a pleasant atmosphere having a drink, my husband was happy enough having a pint of Tribute ale, which he hasn’t been able to source in Devon recently. It wasn’t long before we were served an excellent beef dinner and pork dinner with all the trimmings including cauliflower cheese which normally costs extra in other places, we chose a small meal. I’m so glad we did. It was a real struggle to finish. Excellent food and a lovely clean pleasant atmosphere. We will definitely be coming again, with friends next time.

Popped in for a few drinks and food with friends. The last time we visited was around 7 years ago when we first moved to Buckfast and we did not enjoy it, but now with new management it's totally changed, it's welcoming, friendly and the food was great. Absolutely wonderful stay! The staff couldn’t have been more attentive! The room was clean & modern with one of the most comfortable beds; only reason for the 4 star was due to the size of the bathroom. With that being said, the food was gorgeous, breakfast lunch & dinner! All in all an amazing stay; a larger portion of that down to the staff! Highly recommended to all!

Stopped off for a drink after walking the local woodland. Lovely, friendly staff, great location right on the river, can imagine it would be lovely on a warm summer evening. The pub itself was lovely. Ended up having a simple brie and cheese baguette, but it was lovely served with a side salad and crisps. Would highly recommend a visit 😊 Can't comment on the rooms as we didn't stay but if the pub itself is anything to go by I wouldn't hesitate to book a room.

Wow, such a lovely evening out! The recent refurbishment has really worked well. It’s a lovely place, great atmosphere and looks amazing. Friendly, chilled chats with the chef and new landlord too. The food does not disappoint - one steak and one chicken dish from the specials menu - both really good flavour - so we polished them off. Nice bottle of red to help them slide down and then a good coffee. Very reasonable too.

My daughter and I arrived just after 6pm and checked into our room, then went straight to the bar for a pre-dinner and drink. The food was a good standard but the service was poor. I had to go up to the bar to order a drink. We then went back to our room and my daughter had a shower only to find a ladybug infestation on the ceiling and some dropping to the floor. I had to go down to reception in my pyjamas as there was no way of contacting reception from our room. I had to walk through the restaurant and bar to speak to someone. After a brief chat amongst the staff a strange man offered to ‘vacuum up the ladybugs’. I declined this offer and asked for another room. The only room available for my adult daughter and myself was a very small and shabby double room. Having no other choice we went to bed. There was no apology for putting us in a bug infested room and no offer of compensation or refund for transferring us to an inferior room to the one we paid for. The whole experience was unpleasant and we would definitely not go back there again.

Visited again with two of us, the burgers were great. The gluten free burger meal also tasted great, however I've been ill for the rest of the day how I'd get if I've had wheat. Either the gluten free burger meal isn't gluten free, or the fryer for the chips has had something gluten based in it.

My initial impression was good. We checked in to the room without fuss. The person at the bar helped us with this and was very efficient and friendly. She remembered me making the booking by phone. The room was actually quite pleasant and so for the initial check in and the room, and a decent beer by the river this place recovered a star from all the others that it lost from this point on. We had booked a table for dinner when we booked the room. It was Sunday and the restaurant only had pizza on (but claimed GF was available for my wife). Then when we went in to eat, we were told we didn't have a booking and they had insufficient pizza bases. So we were directed around to one of the other places around the corner to eat. The Greene King is a dangerous walk on the side of the road and is pretty limited on options, especially after a busy Sunday. But we ate. After walking back to the Abbey Inn, we went to go in the door by the road, which our key was supposed to open. Turned the key and it broke off in the lock. No, I didn't force it, it just failed like a really cheap piece of metal. On going in, a little peaved, the woman behind the bar who couldn't seat us for our meal was really incredibly rude about the key and kept repeating "they'll charge you for it", not what I expected. Maybe an apology for my inconvenience was what I was hoping for. So once she let us into our room we stayed in until breakfast. We wedged a magazine in the door to go down to breakfast, as we had no key and didn't dare bother them to unlock the door again. At breakfast we asked for the halloumi veggie breakfast. "They haven't delivered the halloumi", we were told. Ok, do it without. It made for a basic breakfast with a single slice of toast, a cooked tomato, some beans and an egg. When we'd packed and came down to check out, I commented that we didn't have a key to return. I was told "I take it you are still refusing to pay for the key and lock". My response was "I am disappointed I have to refuse to pay. I have an expectation to turn a key and have it unlock the door, not break off in my hand". The exchange continued along the same lines at which point I left. Beware if you stay here that the management appears to expect you to pay for any issues related to failures of their property, cheap fittings or potential lack of maintenance. Your dining reservations may disappear. And if something does go wrong then expect aggressiveness rather than customer service. If the management chooses to respond to this message I'm sure you'll hear that everything was my fault. From which, reader, you are welcome to judge for yourself whether to visit.

As it was a lovely day we stopped in after a visit to the Beautiful Buckfast Abbey. We sat outside with our drinks and couldn’t help noticing how badly run down the pub looks, it looks so grimy with no love or care given to appearances, flower boxes were left rotting and falling apart and old trellis left to rot. I’m sure the last time we stopped here it was much tidier than it appears to be now. Thankfully we ate at Buckfast Abbey!

We stayed over night on our journey up north. It is a beautiful inn on the river the staff are very welcoming, and the bar and downstairs is lovely. On a hot day it would be beautiful to sit by the river and have a few drinks. We don’t know what the evening meals are like as we were informed on arrival that the chef hadn’t turned up so they weren’t doing food and were given some other places to go.The room we had was small an the mat you are given to put your feet on to get out of the shower was paper. When I ran the cold tap to brush my teeth it ran warm, just like the warm tap. The shower if you had thick long hair you would be in trouble as it runs very slowly. There is no plug that you can plug a hair dryer in that is near the only mirror in the room. The TV decided to start flashing at 3 o’clock in the morning the only way we could stop it was by pulling the plug out. The lady and gentleman doing breakfast were great and the food was lovely.

The staff were wonderful throughout, very friendly, welcoming and tried to make up for what the landlords/owners lacked. The Inn is in a lovely location next to a river and views of fields and hills. This is where the compliments stop, now for the real feedback directed at the brewery that own the Inn and they begin with "R". They are letting the staff down in a major way, lack of support, investment and infrastructure repairs. Our room (Kingfisher) overlooks the river and hills, view was nice but the room is very tired, the furniture is dated and needs urgent replacement. As for the bathroom, the picture shows the ceiling extractor fan in a bad way and that is because when it rains the water drips and is collected by the container which is also shown via the picture. This problem was apparently reported months ago and nothing has been done!! Food, forget it............. The menu is very basic indeed, the picture of a chef in whites on the webpage is not as it is, way off it!! Half of the menu was not available even though it was Easter weekend when you'd expect a full menu. The pictures show 2 meals costing £15 each, scampi and a rock hard pie. Go and eat elsewhere is my advice and I think other customers did, unless you like chips, beans, hard pies or pizza. As I mentioned, the staff are being let down by the brewery and they are fed up making excuses for them. Certainly not worth the money

I would not recommend anyone to stay at here as we ended up sleeping on the floor. My family Booked on the 17 March to stay here on the 25th November 2023. After receiving the confirmation which wasn't correct we contacted the Inn numerous times to confirm the 2 rooms we had booked and the amount of people in our booking. i called the property 2 weeks before arrival to check this was all correct and they assured me this was. On arrival we was informed that they had a booking for 3 rooms instead of 2 which costed more than we could afford and was asked to split the 2 children up in different rooms. We stated numerous of times this wasn't our error and wanted to cancel the booking but the Inn stated we would have to pay full price for all 3 rooms even though we only booked 2 rooms. The Inn suggested that they make a bed on the floor for the 2 toddlers due to not having cot beds available for them. When we got to the room there was a small double bed and on the floor was 4 pillows along with 2 sheets and 1 duvet to make a bed which was horrific. Myself and my partner stayed on the floor instead of the toddlers due to this being very uncomfortable and not suitable for them. The Inn Manager was trying to be as attentive and accommodating as possible however the owners was very unaccommodating and had no consideration to the situation or sympathy we was put in even though this wasn't our error. i asked to speak to the owner on numerous of occasions and they would not speak to me just stated this is the case and we had to pay either way. I HOPE THIS NEVER HAPPENS TO ANYONE ELSE.

Lunch on our way to Cornwall. Very disappointed in the pork pate, loads of pate served with one slice of toasted white bread from a regular sliced loaf. Very mediocre. Husband had the whitebait which was good. Very limited choice for lunch. Beautiful setting but the food used to be so much better.

Staff are really nice here. It's a beautiful place that's right to next to the river lovely to sit outside when it's sunny. Good choice of drinks and the food here is really nice and a decent price. Staff are very lovely to talk to and i have never had any issues here.

Nice location sited besides the river. Friendly staff. Close by A38 but not close enough to hear traffic. Near the Abbey. Clean bedroom, although needs a bit of maintenance. Dining / breakfast room needs to be more thorough on cleaning especially dead bugs on window sills.Couple of seats could be reupholstered. Good selection for breakfast. Inside and outside seating areas

Great place to stay. Right on the edge of the River Dart. It was lovely and relaxing to sit out with a glass of wine with a great view. We had lovely evening meals and there was a large choice for breakfast. Staff were very friendly and helpful.

Stopped here overnight on the way to Cornwall. Idyllic location on the river. Very nice room with river view. We had our evening meal and breakfast on the outside terrace overlooking the river. Food is excellent. Breakfast is cooked to order which is a nice change from the usual buffet other establishments have. Staff were very friendly and helpful. I have no hesitation in highly recommending the Abbey Inn.

Great location and food was very nice - we stopped for lunch on the way to Cornwall. A bit cold in the pub and a little lacking in ambience. Maybe it's been de-pubbed just a bit too much? A fire going and more lights on might have been in order on that chilly spring day. Couldn't fault the staff though - they were brilliant 👏. Didn't see the rooms.

We've just returned from a 2 night stay at the Cromwell arms. We were visiting friends and it happened to be the Green Man Festival on on the Saturday and it was a lovely thing to see. We had the family room right upstairs in the eaves. We had a meal in there with our friends on the Saturday evening all went for the Ribeye steak at £23.95 we thought what a bargain well what can we say absolutely delicious so tasty we went for the port and stilton sauce and if I was forced to say anything that you would change I would say the sauce could've been thicker very runny but don't let that put you off it was delicious. We also had breakfast in the hotel and one thing we were really impressed with it was piping piping hot so much so you could see the steam coming off the breakfasts. Very friendly and accommodating staff and we would definitely stay here again love love loved it

Was recommended this pub by a colleague so went for lunch with my daughter and her boyfriend. The photo on the website shows Cod and chips but the menu was plaice and chips and looked a bit overcooked though they said it was nice. I ordered lasagne which I'm sure said that it was " Aberdeen Angus " though there didn't appear to be much meat in it only sauce and mushrooms . It was nice but not what we expected especially for the price. Desserts however were lovely. The view is also good but the paint peeling off the walls in the restaurant..not so good .
