We have visited for food twice. In summer when our group of four visited, we had no issues at all. The food was lovely, service was fine, and the baked potato was fine for the allergy in the group. Visited again with two of us, the burgers were great. The gluten free burger meal also tasted great, however I've been ill for the rest of the day how I'd get if I've had wheat. Either the gluten free burger meal isn't gluten free, or the fryer for the chips has had something gluten based in it.

Lovely prawn starter, juicy prawns and so tasty, followed by John Dory fish which was delicious and perfectly cooked, with beautifully cooked baby potatoes with fresh carrots and broccoli 🥦 perfectly cooked (not too ‘Al dente’ but not too soft, just right), good wholesome fresh simple food.

Wonderful B&B venue, located by the River Dart, with lovely staff, and very reasonably priced. We had the only spacious twin room - the other 7 rooms offer double & single alternatives, and the price includes a sumptuous breakfast (incl. hot/cooked options – full English, vegetarian, porridge, etc, plus a selection of cereals, fruit juices, yoghurt, toast and tea/coffee). Really well worth the visit, and highly recommended. And literally less than 5 mins drive down the road to Buckfast Abbey.

So I walked in off the street at about 22.00 hrs and asked if there was a room available and I was greeted with a big smile. After a few taps on the keyboard it was confirmed that there was availability I was promptly show to my room which was very clean and comfortable which was all I needed. On going back downstairs the land lady asked if I had eaten and as it was late offered to make me a sandwich if I was hungry how nice is that. I had a good night's sleep then it was down to breakfast which was again served promptly cereals, fruit juice, tea coffee, and a good cooked menu which I went for the full English and again very good quality. I certainly will not hesitate to go back if I find myself working that way again.

We had a room with a bay window looking over the river dart. We could see kingfishers and dippers , which was wonderful. The inn is a little dated. Our bathroom was very small. The quilt was in a very bad condition. ( We only noticed this when we stripped the bed before we left) NO FOOD IN THE EVENINGS. We were very surprised to find the inn had no chef or food on offers in the evening, after a busy day out you don't feel like going out again but we had no choice. Nice to see fire advice in different languages. There didn't seem to be many staff. Full English Breakfast was nice , hot with pleasant staff. Apparently the whole place is due for renovation soon. I am once renovated it will be great as the location is fantastic and very close to Buckfast abbey.

Great, great. I love this place so much. The room is very comfortable, especially the sheets and quilts. They are warm and soft. The bathroom is very clean. Every place is spotless. The sofa is also very soft. It makes me feel like I am back at home. And sleeping at night listening to the gurgling water outside the window is so comfortable, is there any natural ASMR! Breakfast deserves a mention! I actually have a day where I think British breakfast is delicious😭The bacon and eggs are so delicious, ah, I’m dying. All in all, this is really a good place with great value for money. I love it so much. It's really too far away from me, otherwise I would still want to go there again

My initial impression was good. We checked in to the room without fuss. The person at the bar helped us with this and was very efficient and friendly. She remembered me making the booking by phone. The room was actually quite pleasant and so for the initial check in and the room, and a decent beer by the river this place recovered a star from all the others that it lost from this point on. We had booked a table for dinner when we booked the room. It was Sunday and the restaurant only had pizza on (but claimed GF was available for my wife). Then when we went in to eat, we were told we didn't have a booking and they had insufficient pizza bases. So we were directed around to one of the other places around the corner to eat. The Greene King is a dangerous walk on the side of the road and is pretty limited on options, especially after a busy Sunday. But we ate. After walking back to the Abbey Inn, we went to go in the door by the road, which our key was supposed to open. Turned the key and it broke off in the lock. No, I didn't force it, it just failed like a really cheap piece of metal. On going in, a little peaved, the woman behind the bar who couldn't seat us for our meal was really incredibly rude about the key and kept repeating "they'll charge you for it", not what I expected. Maybe an apology for my inconvenience was what I was hoping for. So once she let us into our room we stayed in until breakfast. We wedged a magazine in the door to go down to breakfast, as we had no key and didn't dare bother them to unlock the door again. At breakfast we asked for the halloumi veggie breakfast. "They haven't delivered the halloumi", we were told. Ok, do it without. It made for a basic breakfast with a single slice of toast, a cooked tomato, some beans and an egg. When we'd packed and came down to check out, I commented that we didn't have a key to return. I was told "I take it you are still refusing to pay for the key and lock". My response was "I am disappointed I have to refuse to pay. I have an expectation to turn a key and have it unlock the door, not break off in my hand". The exchange continued along the same lines at which point I left. Beware if you stay here that the management appears to expect you to pay for any issues related to failures of their property, cheap fittings or potential lack of maintenance. Your dining reservations may disappear. And if something does go wrong then expect aggressiveness rather than customer service. If the management chooses to respond to this message I'm sure you'll hear that everything was my fault. From which, reader, you are welcome to judge for yourself whether to visit.

As it was a lovely day we stopped in after a visit to the Beautiful Buckfast Abbey. We sat outside with our drinks and couldn’t help noticing how badly run down the pub looks, it looks so grimy with no love or care given to appearances, flower boxes were left rotting and falling apart and old trellis left to rot. I’m sure the last time we stopped here it was much tidier than it appears to be now. Thankfully we ate at Buckfast Abbey!

We stayed over night on our journey up north. It is a beautiful inn on the river the staff are very welcoming, and the bar and downstairs is lovely. On a hot day it would be beautiful to sit by the river and have a few drinks. We don’t know what the evening meals are like as we were informed on arrival that the chef hadn’t turned up so they weren’t doing food and were given some other places to go.The room we had was small an the mat you are given to put your feet on to get out of the shower was paper. When I ran the cold tap to brush my teeth it ran warm, just like the warm tap. The shower if you had thick long hair you would be in trouble as it runs very slowly. There is no plug that you can plug a hair dryer in that is near the only mirror in the room. The TV decided to start flashing at 3 o’clock in the morning the only way we could stop it was by pulling the plug out. The lady and gentleman doing breakfast were great and the food was lovely.

The staff were wonderful throughout, very friendly, welcoming and tried to make up for what the landlords/owners lacked. The Inn is in a lovely location next to a river and views of fields and hills. This is where the compliments stop, now for the real feedback directed at the brewery that own the Inn and they begin with "R". They are letting the staff down in a major way, lack of support, investment and infrastructure repairs. Our room (Kingfisher) overlooks the river and hills, view was nice but the room is very tired, the furniture is dated and needs urgent replacement. As for the bathroom, the picture shows the ceiling extractor fan in a bad way and that is because when it rains the water drips and is collected by the container which is also shown via the picture. This problem was apparently reported months ago and nothing has been done!! Food, forget it............. The menu is very basic indeed, the picture of a chef in whites on the webpage is not as it is, way off it!! Half of the menu was not available even though it was Easter weekend when you'd expect a full menu. The pictures show 2 meals costing £15 each, scampi and a rock hard pie. Go and eat elsewhere is my advice and I think other customers did, unless you like chips, beans, hard pies or pizza. As I mentioned, the staff are being let down by the brewery and they are fed up making excuses for them. Certainly not worth the money

Over the last few months I have visited The Abbey Inn 4 times, as I've been working in the area. It is positioned right next to the River Dart. It's really relaxing, sleeping to the sound of the river flowing. I have not had an evening meal there, as they do not serve food on a Monday night. The breakfast though is really nice, cooked to order. A stay at the Inn is really great value at £55 for bed & breakfast. The service is great and really friendly.

Lovely convenient location for a one night stay following a trip on the polar express. Evening meal was really nice and a well presented breakfast the next morning. Staff were very helpful and attentive. Thank you! The accommodation needs some tending as it’s a tad shabby. We had a leak in our bathroom ceiling causing a puddle on the floor and there was a very pungent smell of drains on the landing. Was woken at 3:30 by men swearing loudly in a room near by, that went on for some time. (Not that this can be helped) All in all tho for what we paid for 3 rooms it wasn’t too bad. Would I stay here again? Probably not. Would I eat here again? Definitely.

Carinissima locanda con ampio parcheggio. Personale gentilissimo e disponibile. Consigliato. ----------- Very nice inn with ample parking. Very kind and helpful staff. Unfortunately it was not possible to have dinner but if you want you can find some snacks at the bar. The room was small but with a view of the river. A little inconvenient to use the kettle because the socket was only on the floor but you can organize yourself. I would not recommend anyone to stay at here as we ended up sleeping on the floor. My family Booked on the 17 March to stay here on the 25th November 2023. After receiving the confirmation which wasn't correct we contacted the Inn numerous times to confirm the 2 rooms we had booked and the amount of people in our booking. i called the property 2 weeks before arrival to check this was all correct and they assured me this was. On arrival we was informed that they had a booking for 3 rooms instead of 2 which costed more than we could afford and was asked to split the 2 children up in different rooms. We stated numerous of times this wasn't our error and wanted to cancel the booking but the Inn stated we would have to pay full price for all 3 rooms even though we only booked 2 rooms. The Inn suggested that they make a bed on the floor for the 2 toddlers due to not having cot beds available for them. When we got to the room there was a small double bed and on the floor was 4 pillows along with 2 sheets and 1 duvet to make a bed which was horrific. Myself and my partner stayed on the floor instead of the toddlers due to this being very uncomfortable and not suitable for them. The Inn Manager was trying to be as attentive and accommodating as possible however the owners was very unaccommodating and had no consideration to the situation or sympathy we was put in even though this wasn't our error. i asked to speak to the owner on numerous of occasions and they would not speak to me just stated this is the case and we had to pay either way. I HOPE THIS NEVER HAPPENS TO ANYONE ELSE.

We really enjoyed our stay, December visit , tied in with going to the polar express. Very quaint hotel, our room had a lovely view of the river. Staff all extremely friendly, food as very nice, and a real cosey feel. :)

Amazing birthday break. What can I say, exceptional place to stay!! If you’re looking for a cosy, warm and friendly trip away then The Abbey Inn is the place to go. The staff are beyond friendly and helpful, we needed a cab into town for a show and the owner kindly arranged this for us. The food is amazing, fresh home cooked food, some of the best I’ve eaten. The sausages are out of this world and the ox tongue was superb. The cosy setting with fireplace was a perfect end to our evening with drinks, beautiful views of the river dart, especially from our room. Cannot wait to return in the summer, highly recommend. Big thank you to Phil, Kelly, and all the staff for making our stay so pleasurable and memorable. Look forward to seeing you next year.

Beautiful location and warm friendly welcome. Upon our arrival through no fault of the establishment there was an issue with our booking. (We had used a well known booking website who had failed to pass on our booking details fully). The lady at the inn was most helpful in helping us solve the issue with the booking company and was most accomodating, going well above and beyond, and paying particular attention to minimise any upset for our young child who was looking forwards to her trip on the polar express. ( We thank you greatly for this). The view from the room was beautiful with the river dart tumbling past the window. Breakfast in the morning was in my opinion brilliant.....great quality food and drink, tasted amazing and was served with a smile and once again effort was made to include our child.....this makes such a positive difference. I look forwards to being able to return and enjoy a drink on the river bank in hopefully warmer drier times. Thanks again for being so welcoming and understanding. We look forwards to returning.

My family and I went for dinner at the Abbey Inn earlier today, we are vegetarian and there were only had two different options for ‘vegetarian food’. I went to the bar to order the vegetarian roast dinner, I even asked the lady serving me if the gravy was vegetarian before I ordered and she said it doesn’t come with gravy, it comes with ‘some sort of sauce instead’ so we ordered that. 50 minutes had passed until our food came and when the roast came we tucked into it. A few bites into the meal I remembered what the member of staff had said to me about there being sauce instead of gravy so we stopped eating and went up to the bar again to be told that the gravy was definitely NOT vegetarian and it was made out of bone broth and that shouldn’t have been served with cabbage roast. Obviously at this point I’m feeling sick and upset, meat eaters may not understand this but as a vegetarian this is a heartbreaking thing to hear. When you are going out to eat with special dietary requirements, you should be able to trust what the menu says. It is negligence. Not to mention this ‘vegetarian’ roast dinner consisted of half a cabbage, one carrot, 3 potato’s and a parsnip for £12 each. Disgusting. You are our local place to eat and we would never come here again.

Not to impressed unfortunately. The slope down to the pub did seem pretty dangerous. It was also cold in the pub when we sat down and the baby high chair needed a good wipe over before using. The staff were nice and attentive but what we thought was complimentary ice cream for our daughter was included on the bill for £3 which was disappointing. The food was nice but portions were pretty small. The cider on tap was very nice though.

My only real issue here is the access, I went with my elderly parents and my dad is in a wheelchair. Shocking access really, steep decline going in which isn’t particularly level underfoot. Food was ok, hummus however tasted like it had been in a blander. Staff, service and pizzas were great though.

Wow! A great tapas style section on the menu and loads of choice for vegans! I was expecting to have chips and a salad and instead absolutely pigged out on delicious vegan goodies. Plenty of choice for my omnivorous husband too!

Our fourth visit to this inn but it will be our last! As we waited to book in for the night we were not even acknowledged, the staff walked round us like we were part of the furniture. The food used to be fantastic but is now based on a menu largely consisting of burgers and pizza with portion sizes (for what we ordered) not consistent with the price. We explained we needed to leave at 7am for a three hour drive and were told a cold breakfast would be available; this didn’t happen so we left very hungry and disappointed! The staff need to up their game! We were particularly disappointed as had such a warm welcome and positive experience last time.

A friend brought me here for lunch on a lovely sunny day, having a meal by a flowing river. What a treat! Tribute was good but lamb koftas were so much better. A great out door treat!

Stopped in for a late lunch at 2pm, having been let down elsewhere. So glad we did! BBQ dirty fries and a spicy pizza washed down with a pint, by the river. Friendly staff in a very pleasant location.

Can’t fault anything! The service was great and they were very welcoming. There were three of us in our party, and we all enjoyed what we ordered very much. So much so, if we lived closer, we’d definitely come again. I don’t eat puddings, but chose to have one, and glad I did, it was lovely. All three of us have left happy and full. It’s a lovely place, in a great setting, would recommend to anyone who is in the area.

Wow, what a difference. Our last visit was disappointing, apparently the pub was about to be taken over by new management, and it was all a bit sad. Reading recent encouraging reviews we booked for Sunday lunch, and what a treat. Now I'm a fussy so-and-so when it comes to a roast dinner, and we were not disappointed. The staff are lovely, the meal was well cooked, piping hot and plenty of it. Exactly as it should be. Would heartily recommend.

9 of us and a dog booked in for Sunday dinner as we had come down to visit. We first went here in 2014 it was nice then and lovely this time. The Sunday dinners were huge but sooo nice & the dog 🐶 had hers in a bowl at no extra charge and for a Staffordshire bull terrier she done the only thing ate it all with a smiley face.

I rarely write reviews these days but I just had the worst meal I’ve had for a very long time. Vegetables re-heated from the day before and tasteless everything else is not what I was expecting for £19. To make matters worse, the white wine was almost undrinkable.
