We have been attending The Mount for our family Christmas dinner for 15 years (minus Covid) as it is down the road for our Grandmother who is not very mobile. Today the service was exceptionally poor. We had to attend the bar for all our drinks, they refused table service despite the restaurant being full and us having pre ordered all our food. They did not check on how our food was until we had finished the meal. The mains were all tepid or cold. We asked for one very cold burger to be heated up. It was clearly just microwaved as the bread returned very dried out and the burger was still warm at best. Furthermore, 40 minutes after we had finished our mains, we had 5 dessert menus dumped on the table with no word informing us that dessert was also to be ordered at the bar. When we complained the staff were shocked that we asked for money off the bill at the end and spoke rudely to us. Extremely disappointed and despite the view being nice there seems to be a complete lack of care in the service and the food nowadays. Don’t bother coming.

Honestly, the most disappointing dining experience we've ever had, the staff were indifferent, our food was ice cold and when confronted about the standard of service they were dismissive and accusatory. The Mount has had a terminal decline from which I fear it won't recover....nor does it deserve to.

I rarely write reviews these days but I just had the worst meal I’ve had for a very long time. Vegetables re-heated from the day before and tasteless everything else is not what I was expecting for £19. To make matters worse, the white wine was almost undrinkable.

We visited this for Sunday lunch as a family of 5. We booked a table in the morning and explained we had an Autistic teenager with us and they were more than happy to accommodate us. Even put us in a quieter area. We had 2 Adult carveries and 1 Child Carvery which were absolutely delicious. They even accommodated for my Autistic son who only wanted a plain burger and when the meal was delivered the member of staff placed the food near his tablet to try not to disturb him. All Staff was very friendly. Will definitely recommend to any friends or family that come to visit the area.

1st time visit, but very disappointed with the carvery. All food was cold, and tasteless, I asked for steak knives, just so I could cut the beef, to eat, as it was so tough!. I hope the meal will improve, as the staff were great, and the restaurant location was lovely

Been here a few times when here on holiday, the past I've enjoyed but today we had the carvery and I have to say it was terrible. My friends beef was still dripping with blood, roast potatoes were more like boiled! Not roasted at all. Veg very hard. I had beef and gammon, gammon was fatty and the beef was too, very hard to cut. Not enough veg choices either. Gravy was like water, far too runny! It was all edible but the roasts were perfect before, why change what isn't broken? My children had meals from the menu and they looked perfect. Would eat here again but definitely not a carvery. Change it back I say!

We were not asked by anybody if we had any allergies!!! We asked for a glass of water 3 times so one of us could take our medication. I ended up going to the bar myself. This pub is a must visit if you’re in this area. From the front it is deceptive as it looks like any other period building of that type - but that hides the secret behind. To the rear the land steeply drops away and you realise that the pub is perched on a cliff top. This gives stunning views right across the Exe estuary and along the south Devon coast. The restaurant area takes full advantage of this with large picture windows where you can drink - and drink in - the view. We had an evening meal which came quickly and was good in quality. You pay a little more which is typical of venues at seaside resorts but it wasn’t commercial or touristy in feel. The staff were friendly too and made a point of allowing us to order extra drinks and stay, even thought they were closing a little earlier than usual to celebrate a long serving member of staff’s leaving. A place we will definitely use again.

He said “that’s fine but you’ll have to wait a few minutes for your drinks as I’m busy. Sat at our table at 6.55 and a waitress said “that Table’s booked”. We confirmed it was booked for us. However no menus brought over. So we got them ourselves. All in all we felt like invisible guests to the point I was ignored when I went up to the bar to complain. My daughter and I arrived just after 6pm and checked into our room, then went straight to the bar for a pre-dinner and drink. The food was a good standard but the service was poor. I had to go up to the bar to order a drink. We then went back to our room and my daughter had a shower only to find a ladybug infestation on the ceiling and some dropping to the floor. I had to go down to reception in my pyjamas as there was no way of contacting reception from our room. I had to walk through the restaurant and bar to speak to someone. After a brief chat amongst the staff a strange man offered to ‘vacuum up the ladybugs’. I declined this offer and asked for another room. The only room available for my adult daughter and myself was a very small and shabby double room. Having no other choice we went to bed. There was no apology for putting us in a bug infested room and no offer of compensation or refund for transferring us to an inferior room to the one we paid for. The whole experience was unpleasant and we would definitely not go back there again.
