The Mount Pleasant Inn in Teignbridge

I rarely write reviews these days but I just had the worst meal I’ve had for a very long time. Vegetables re-heated from the day before and tasteless everything else is not what I was expecting for £19. To make matters worse, the white wine was almost undrinkable.

We visited this for Sunday lunch as a family of 5. We booked a table in the morning and explained we had an Autistic teenager with us and they were more than happy to accommodate us. Even put us in a quieter area. We had 2 Adult carveries and 1 Child Carvery which were absolutely delicious. They even accommodated for my Autistic son who only wanted a plain burger and when the meal was delivered the member of staff placed the food near his tablet to try not to disturb him. All Staff was very friendly. Will definitely recommend to any friends or family that come to visit the area.

The Sunday carvery was well- organised and the food was good.There was a reasonable selection of vegetables.Our only complaint was that the meal was only lukewarm when we got it ,and the gravy was too thin.

Potatoes that were hard and white, meant to be roasted but looked like boiled. Tasteless cauliflower cheese, no cheese flavour just white sauce. Beef tough, gravy watery. A really poor show. Maybe stick to pub grub!

1st time visit, but very disappointed with the carvery. All food was cold, and tasteless, I asked for steak knives, just so I could cut the beef, to eat, as it was so tough!. I hope the meal will improve, as the staff were great, and the restaurant location was lovely

Been here a few times when here on holiday, the past I've enjoyed but today we had the carvery and I have to say it was terrible. My friends beef was still dripping with blood, roast potatoes were more like boiled! Not roasted at all. Veg very hard. I had beef and gammon, gammon was fatty and the beef was too, very hard to cut. Not enough veg choices either. Gravy was like water, far too runny! It was all edible but the roasts were perfect before, why change what isn't broken? My children had meals from the menu and they looked perfect. Would eat here again but definitely not a carvery. Change it back I say!

We were not asked by anybody if we had any allergies!!! We asked for a glass of water 3 times so one of us could take our medication. I ended up going to the bar myself. Food was very average, my mash was lumpy.Also our experience was marred by yapping dog's, could not hear ourselves speak.They should have been asked to take them out.I love animals, but not when I am eating.

Had dinner here last night and the food has improved dramatically since the last time we visited last year. Our three course meal was gorgeous and the potion sizes are brilliant. The staff are all lovely and the views are stunning. We will definitely be back again and will also recommend it to anyone who will listen!

Great service, they we're very patient with my friends rottweiler. The food was really tasty and plenty of it.

We went for something to Eat and Drink with members of my family down on holiday. The Food we ordered was really nice. The service was also Friendly and Professional. I can't leave a report on the rooms because I didn't even know that they had any. So until next time. Bye for now.👍👍😀😀

Excellent location looking out over Dawlish Warren. Not over priced at all and the food was great. Staff are friendly and knew the area well.

Had dinner here twice, both times excellent

Last week we came down to Mount Pleasant inn for breakfast. The lady who was working there was amazing. There was 13 of us that turned up and it was not a problem. I am coeliac and gluten free options where not a problem, they could cater for me and it was no issue at all. There was plenty of food and it was very tasty. The views were just as grand, viewing out to the warren was second to none, thanks for having us!!

Food was beautiful, hubby had the last portion of chicken curry when we visited and said it was beautiful. I had the home made breaded mushrooms as a starter and they were very yummy and opted for the smaller plate option which certainly wasn't small. Food came out quickly but the extra service was a bit lacking. Fantastic view if you have a window seat.

Great food with a great view. Had the steak and ale pie and it was lovely. Nice view of Dawlish Warren sea front.

Amazing views of Dawlish Warren from this pub. Was lovely to relax after a walk looking out to sea.

Had baked brie, with crispy bread and onion chutney to share with my mum and it was so good!! Portion was a really good size and price was very reasonable. Definitely go again

I'm pleased to say since I last visited the mount pleasant inn has been taken over by new owners. What a difference the food was exceptional and the staff amazing. Will definitely be going back when next there

Had to wait over half an hour for our food.Waitresses standing around chatting.Had to go up to bar for more drinks as nobody came to ask if we wanted anything else.Had to ask for a desert menu as they had taken them away and then had to go up to bar to order dessert as nobody came to take my order.This is our worst visit to this place.

Been to this pub/restaurant many a time as was living local and always been ok but this visit it was obvious it had changed hands as the food and service was excellent. now I am in north Devon and visiting so unfortunately won’t use that often but highly recommend

Even after a few years it's still a very nice pub with a really great view and atmosphere (pleasant background music); From 2-5 p.m. At least there are “Lite bites/Sanwiches”; Toilets are a bit "spread out", parking space is sufficient for normal crowds - the only "shortcoming": no WiFi...

This pub is a must visit if you’re in this area. From the front it is deceptive as it looks like any other period building of that type - but that hides the secret behind. To the rear the land steeply drops away and you realise that the pub is perched on a cliff top. This gives stunning views right across the Exe estuary and along the south Devon coast. The restaurant area takes full advantage of this with large picture windows where you can drink - and drink in - the view. We had an evening meal which came quickly and was good in quality. You pay a little more which is typical of venues at seaside resorts but it wasn’t commercial or touristy in feel. The staff were friendly too and made a point of allowing us to order extra drinks and stay, even thought they were closing a little earlier than usual to celebrate a long serving member of staff’s leaving. A place we will definitely use again.

Popped in on a Wednesday afternoon for some lunch only to find food wasn't being served till 530pm. Lovely views while we had a drink and went elsewhere for food.

Really poor quality overpriced food. The portions were small and resembled frozen supermarket produce. The only nice thing was the view. Will not be returning.

We went for lunch. Lovely views but that’s about it. Ham salad sandwich (no salad) , the chips were burnt and tasted inedible. The cheese sandwich was grated cheddar and prawns were frozen prawns not fresh. Poor quality, staff not interested, we won’t return.

There was ten of us the service was good food was nice but I wish pubs would go back to real chips I stead of frozen

Booked a table for 7pm and arrived early so told barman we would like a drink on the patio before sitting down to eat. He said “that’s fine but you’ll have to wait a few minutes for your drinks as I’m busy. Sat at our table at 6.55 and a waitress said “that Table’s booked”. We confirmed it was booked for us. However no menus brought over. So we got them ourselves. All in all we felt like invisible guests to the point I was ignored when I went up to the bar to complain. The staff are miserable and don’t appear to be happy. Food was ok but overpriced. Won’t be returning although we had planned a Sunday roast but will go elsewhere.

Spotted this place on the way down to Dawlish Warren Beach and wanted to give it a go. A lovely looking pub that proudly shows its charm and history as well as its amazing views from the tables overlooking the beach and funfair. The service was great considering the number of us as well as kids and two dogs and were more than accommodating. Really enjoyed our food as well with lots of options and pretty good value. A lovely place to have a drink or a meal and watch the sun and sea.

Menu very small now, portion size is small and prices gone up too expensive!! Been going there for years and sadly won’t be going again now it’s all changed!

This is my families go to restaurant for special occasions. The food is well priced and tasty. You are always guaranteed good service.

Average food, small portions. Ordered spaghetti Bolognese and had to pay extra for a sprinkling of cheese lol. The view is great but we won't be going back.

Only visited the restaurant. Ordered the surf and turf, medium rare. Got a well done steak, had it returned and as second attempt received a steak grey on the outside and raw on the inside. Clearly a cold steak that was undercooked and not seared. If you can’t cook a steak then you have no business in a kitchen. It got taken off the bill but I would’ve preferred to get a proper meal.

Old fashioned. Not welcoming to families, outdoor area awful given the spectacular views.

Absolutely brilliant first class

Very disappointed with our meals. Not the quality we expected. Cold plates, dried up veg and tough steak. Didn't complain but it wasn't up to the standard we expect in a pub in Devon.

Came today 5th May 2024 We found this place last year look.at my other review .12 months on what has happened 2 stars given was for view and waiting staff same lady from last year .food barely warm.hardly and meat on my chicken one potato's greasy .don't want to.carry on saw its changed owners I will not return shame it was so good last year we ate there 2 times in the week as well not this year sorry .if manger or owner is looking get it sorted

We ate here 2 nights in a row whilst staying in the area. Dog friendly, the views are amazing, staff were very friendly and the food was lovely. Would definitely recommend.

Went there for the lamb chops and the beef borderlais only to find the menu has changed but not in their website. Seems it's chips and pizza now we settled for the steak and ale pie which was bland not even as good as a pukka very over priced won't be going there again after 18 years. It felt like they wanted us to leave as we were the only ones there bar one man it was only 9 o'clock.

Lovely location and friendly staff. I would highly recommend a coffee stop here to enjoy the beauty of Dawlish Warren.

Popped into the Mount Pleasant, loved the food, immaculate service and they made sure they gave my Sons teddy some food. Dogs are welcome to and they even made a fuss out ours and brought her a sausage. Everything was clean and well presented. The staff were lovely, especially MEL who couldn’t have done more to make us feel welcome. The view is awesome as we were looking at the “angry sea” while in the warm eating out all you can eat breakfast. Our only complaint is we had never found this place until the last day. We will be back someday though 🤩

We always visit when on holiday. Our dog is always welcome & the food is always good. The view from the restaurant is amazing.

Just been served the saddest looking new potatoes that have clearly been microwaved several times…shame as the sea bass had clearly had effort put into sauce and presentation …spoiled our meals so we won’t be back(local and hungry)

I had mixed grill but I found the chips were over cooked the rest of the food was excellent

A lovely location with parking. Lots of spaces including an outside area. The views over Dawlish Warren are the best. A large range of meals is available and our tasted fantastic. Nice and friendly staff making it a Pleasant place to go. Be aware the menu is now very much different from my original review.

Visited the Mount Pleasant Inn just after 4.30pm this afternoon. The service was very good and the lady who served me was polite & helpful. The beer was excellent and my wife and I thoroughly enjoyed the experience.🍻🤔🍺🍺👍

I was needing to meet a friend in this location, and I wanted a pub that did good food and had parking and this fitted the bill. I was impressed with the lovely views from the windows . The staff are friendly and accommodating as we got there prior to food being served and drinks were served immediately. I had grilled steak in a ciabatta with chips and a salad garnish. I really enjoyed it. The steak melted in your mouth. My friend had the soup which looked delicious and was delicious. It was served with two types of bread rolls and with three pats of butter. Usually at other places I have to ask for extra butter, but this was sufficient. Very reasonably priced. Would come again and will as I’m in the area once a week

We just went for a meal before Christmas. Service was a bit slow bearing in mind it was very quiet and the meal wasn't as good as I'd hoped.

Great pub with plenty of space for large groups. We had Sunday lunch with 10 of us. The service was friendly and efficient. The food plentiful and tasty. The garden burger (vegetarian) was different from the usual with lots of different vegetables used. We had huge helpings of beef in the Sunday roast which satisfied the huge appetites of our teenage grandsons! Relaxed atmosphere where we could eat and chat in comfort.

We've been there a couple of times and the food has been really good... We go to really good, ( pricey ), good and awful eateries ( awful by accident) but today I had the steak & ale pie and I can honestly say the pastry on that pie was was fantastic. Great proper British fare with great views and smashing beer. ... Go there, you know it makes sense 😋

A group of seven of us had two evenings at the Mount Pleasant in the past week. (Went here twice last year) Excellent service and first class food. See you all again next year!!!

Lovely food with great scenery to overlook the coastline. Service was rapid and the food was the normal good food for everyone.

Fantastic food, view and service. Really some of the best pub food you can get. Dog likes it too which is handy. The misses was happy too - which is no small thing these days! Worth it just to stop her moaning for 5 minutes!! Ha ☺️

Loved this pub. Food excellent and reasonably priced. Staff really friendly and efficient. I'd suggest booking if you want a table with a sea view. Dress is casual and it's equally nice to just have a drink as comfortable and relaxed. Nice terrace with lovely views of the sea.

Expensive for drinks and food, not a great deal of choices

Beautiful inn with lovely views available from the restaurant. We found the food to be delicious with very ample servings. Service was great, very friendly approachable staff. Nice bar area to relax after meal and pool table available as well . No complaints at all. Easy walk for us from Lady’s Mile Holiday Park but plenty of parking if need. Would suggest you book.. very popular. Not cheap but felt price was reasonable for the experience. Highly recommend

Half the menu was off. What was available was served in small portions. Especially the chicken supreme. Big plates small portions. Won’t be back any time soon.

Хотя это была середина недели, но было довольно многолюдно.К сожалению, нам не достался столик у окна и мы не смогли насладиться прекрасным видом. Но мы в полной мере насладились кухней! Был очень хороший выбор блюд как в меню, так и от шефа в этот день. Всё было очень вкусно! Остались очень довольны!

Disgraceful service . On holiday so popped in for a meal with daughter and grandson,immediately took us to another room as children weren't allowed in main part. I was fine with that but they put us in a corner away from anyone although only one other table was in use.asked if we could move so we could have a view and was told no. So obviously we left. Disgusted in the way we were treated.so if anyone's hoping to go for a meal with children expect to be put right out the way from anyone else
