Popped in for a drink and Wow! This pub has been very tastefully modernised, stylish but subtle from every aspect. Too much to explain, go se for yourself. There is also a games room and garden. Drinks were reasonably priced.

It might be that I'm getting on, but even being a little deaf, this place was musically very noisy - there was nowhere to escape it.

We hired the hall above the pub for a family party, the manageress Cat went out of her way to help us organise it and kept in contact with us in the months before the date. She organised the disco for us and helped with the organisation of the room. The party was a great success and my family had a great time. The room is small but ok for a family gathering I wholeheartedly recommend this venue .

Sunday lunch early January 2017. The Jolly Abbot has always been known for decent food and we hadn't been for quite a while so it was time to give it a try again. The carvery is a relatively recent innovation and we had the first one of the new year. Two sizes, standard and large... £6.95 and £8.95. We had large. It was excellent. Good amount of meat offered and the veg was fresh and hot and tasty (I think the veg might have been cooked with a bit of salt already added so don't add more unless you taste it first.... but that's not a complaint). Gravy was nice and there were the usual sauces. The staff generally, and Charles, the fella doing the carving, were very polite and welcoming. There was a real log fire in the grate making for a pleasant atmosphere. Music not too loud. Parking nearby in the Magistrates car park. Free on Sundays. The price is OK seeing as the meat serving was good, and it was good quality meat too, plus the presentation was good. Any more expensive than that and you might possibly think twice so hopefully it won't creep up over time. By comparison the Sunday lunch at Finlake is more expensive and no better, (and has cold plates) whereas the Sunday lunch over the road at the Union is cheaper and still of a very respectable quality, and the Linney at Coffinswell is currently £9.95 but is famously well regarded and always busy so I'd say I'd be very happy indeed to return to the Jolly Abbot but there are many other places in fierce competition. The Jolly Abbot certainly gets my recommendation and I'd be very happy to take anyone there knowing it would be good. Thanks.

No recomiendo este pub ya que no te decepcionará. La única decoración comentarios negativos hablar (es un antiguo pub).

We went to The Jolly Abbot today for Sunday carvery. We thoroughly enjoyed it. The food was freshly cooked with a selection of vegetables and 3 choices of meat. Finished off with an excellent dessert, it was a good treat for my husband's birthday. Everyone was given a warm welcome and the atmosphere in this pub was great. I would recommend that you book a table in advance.

The forty-mile round trip to Newton Abbot, so that my wife can visit the Roman dress shop, has, for me, the consolation of visiting one of the many local taverns for lunch. Today, it was 'The Jolly Abbot' - a seventeenth century coaching inn - run by Sid & his wife Cat with her brother working, very effectively, in the kitchen.Only one real ale on draught but, as that was Tribute, there was no objection to that. We decided on the small breakfast which was perfectly presented as a minor feast on a slate- delicious grub. A lovely, clean, welcoming pub with lovely people behind (and in front of) the bar. We'll be back.

What a lovely pub, authentic Tudor interior with a great menu and knowledgeable chef, proper English food locally sourced. One of the best meal experiences in Newton Abbot. Also great selection of real ales, highly recommend!

Me and my partner were out shopping and decided to pop in and try out the food. The menu was very limited (mainly burgers) and was of an ok standard. The food was served on slates which is a little bit too pompous for the type of pub it actually is. Dark interior that is very outdated. The whole place would benefit from some natural light! The music was so loud we could hardly talk and the chef doubled as the barman.

Had previously had an amazing meal in this pub so decided to give it a visit in the evening. We happened to pick an Evening they were holding a charity event for a local cancer Hospice. The landlord was very welcoming and the atmosphere was brilliant. We ended up staying for the whole evening. Will definitely be going back for food and another night. Best pub in Newton Abbot.

Called in for a quiet drink and couldn't wait to leave; the welcome was warm and the beer was okay but you couldn't get away from the noise: the customers who were eating were shouting to make themselves heard: speakers were everywhere. In an attempt to get away I went into the back bar but, alas, there was both TV on and music. Perhaps it's an age thing but is it too much to ask to have a pint without being deafened ?

We don't know the town at all and were very hungry -we stopped here just because it was close to town. We received an amazing welcome and were fed incredibly well for a great price. Not only that, but care and attention was given to the presentation of the food. We would definitely go back for more!

We enjoyed an office outing at the Jolly Abbot and Sid and Charles ensured an enjoyable evening.Having pre-booked as a group we were offered an extended menu and my steak was cooked to perfection. The menu majors on burgers with a large range to choose from. These are very tasty.Accompanied by a few pints of Tribute and Proper Job we had an excellent evening.

Group booking of 8 people so we were asked to prebook our meals to ensure all would be prepared when we arrived. Charles, the chef, greeted us on our arrival and made sure we had all arrived before he started cooking our meals. Every meal was cooked to perfection and all 8 of us were very happy with what was put before us, well done Charles. The pub specialises in real ale and once again we could not fault the quality. Bar staff were friendly and helpful and overall we had a wonderful evening.

My partner and I have visited the Jolly Abbot on two occasions now and on both occasions were made to feel very welcome by the landlady. On both occasions my partner had the lamb and mint burger, which was very nice. I also had the lamb and mint burger, I have had the same burger and a cheese sandwich on the second visit which was fresh and very tastyThe chef came and chatted with us for ten minutes or soThe landlady provided our dog with a bowl of water without being asked. The welcome of both of the mentioned staff ensures our custom in the near future

Found this place by chance today. Unassuming from the outside. Warm and friendly staff. When the gammon and chips turned up OMG! We were not expecting such a high standard of locally sourced food. They've only been serving food for 6 weeks!! Menu wasn't massive, but if the standard of this dish transfers to everything you won't be disappointed . HMF family, one of ours is the head chef (RLC vet) so if your passing it's so worth finding a parking space.

The Jolly Abbot has been under new management since December 2015. The changes in the pub are plain to see and the new Landlord and Landlady have presented a warm, welcoming environment to have a quiet during the day and lively entertainment at the weekends. Soon to be putting on food, the Jolly Abbot will be aiming to regenerate it's previous good food reputation and put this lovely pub firmly back on the map as a must visit place.

Teignmouth has more than its fair share of boozers, really good to see when many pubs are closing down. This is a no-nonsense pub, right on the harbourside (and I mean RIGHT on the harbourside!). Bet it's lovely to sit outside on a sunny day. We were there on a rainy February night, and there was a band just warming up ready to play. Friendly bar staff. Cheap drinks.

Went here for a few drinks when visiting Teignmouth. As far as wetherspoons go this was a pretty good one. Great location quite near to the train station too. The locals were all really friendly and chatty. Was pretty clean and toilets well kept. Didn't have to wait very long to be served (using the app).
