I went to the navy today for a roast beef and it was absolutely delicious! Everything was cooked to perfection, the beef melted in my mouth and the potatoes were gorgeous. Definitely one of the best roasts I've had. 100% worth trying you won't be disappointed. Lots of drinks available huge variety of soft and alcoholic. Staff are exceptional.

It is a great place for a drink, friendly staff, and a great pint. I never tried the food,but what I saw looked good. The atmosphere is friendly and relaxed. Especially if your ex navy personnel.

The beating heart of the Barbican at a weekend. A great place to have a few pints, enjoy live music or watch the footy if you’re there in the afternoon.

Brilliant staff really good food was worth every penny

Visited this on a late friday evening, and the place was very lively with a bizarre but entertaining singer. Good atmosphere and very friendly bar.

A definite haven in a storm (the weather was dreadful!). We had a great meal the upstairs dining room. A good pub menu and good choice of drinks.

My wife Debbie and I visited on a very beautiful Tuesday morning. Plymouth was buzzing and full of holiday makers. So we thought we would try somewhere new to eat on the Barbican. On entry it was wonderful and cool and spotlessly clean. We were greeted by the friendly manager and ordered two ice cold lagers. We then chose two cod,chips and mushy peas with tartare sauce. I thought as I was hungry I would also order a feta salad expecting a nice small side salad. How stunned was I when the food arrived. We had two huge pieces of lightly battered cod on beautiful homemade chips, with a huge feta salad amazingly presented with various lettuce, cucumber, tomato and sun dried tomatoes. It also contained various nuts black and green olives, gherkins and beautiful edible flowers. A lovely looking masterpiece. The food was delicious, however as I didn’t expect huge portions the salad was only half eaten. Sorry. Although I was asked if I wanted it packed up to take home. A nice touch. I was so full that I was gutted I couldn’t try some lovely sounding desserts. This is a wonderful place to eat with extremely good food at amazing prices when you consider the costs of same items at other establishments. I would honestly recommend the navy inn to anyone wanting very nice home cooked food at a great price. Thanks chef 👍 back soon for those desserts.

Excellent pub lunch from the day’s special menu: cod and sea bass fishcakes served with chips, coleslaw and chutney. Perfectly cooked and presented by friendly staff. Highly recommend.

All 3 meals exceeded our expectations. My gammon came with crispy homemade onion rings and proper chips- not frozen ones, very rare! The fish was perfect too- soft , flaky white fish with tasty crispy batter (definitely battered by hand not bought in frozen). The burger was also hand made , meaty and very tasty indeed. All 3 generously portioned meals and 3 cokes came to less than £43. Excellent value for money.

Our daughter was very upset about sitting in the chair. The landlady came over and cheered her up. The drinks were nice. The food was lovely. We have a very lively experience we will be coming back for sure. Thank you to all the staff

The Navy always surprises me how much fun can be had there. My recent visit had an excellent chap as musical entertainment that had the whole place groovin-on-down - always great fun :-)

Comfortable, good amount of seating. Had a problem with my drink and they replaced it with an apology quickly and politely. Not bad pricing for a round to be fair and the music playing was a really good variety of mainly rock from Pink Floyd to Green Day! Odd toilet layout it had to be said - but clean and all in working order. I'd drink in here again..a good mix of people by the looks... From students to locals. Nice place.

Quite on the day we went. Looks like it's busy in the evening/weekends. Had the 2x£18:00 menu, very nice home made lasagna and a good home made beef burger propper grilled, fresh clodslaw

We, two couples went here to watch the England v Fiji rugby game. We lost the rugby which was rubbish but the Navy Arms is a great pub to visit. Ginette the landlady is wonderful and her staff are spot with the service in this very busy pub under Ginettes leadership. Would highly recommend the Navy Arms.

Very pleasant staff and the meal was lovely

Service was rude! Had a woman who was in charge, let them know the coke was flat and they just snapped back saying it wasn’t. Everyone who I was with also agreed but the woman was having none of it. I can see from other reviews that this has happened before.

Excellent pub, not cheap but where is now? Very nice food,2 meals for £18 good value. Lovely friendly staff, brilliant friendly atmosphere. My " local" whenever im in town.

Lovely spot on the barbican, large space good for a meeting point. It is central to the barbican area and hard to miss.

Shame the barman was more interested in his girlfriend than serving the public.

Servizio pessimo, cameriere scortese. Ho chiesto un gin tonic e mi hanno servito un bicchiere che si usa di solito per l'acqua con poco gin e tutta soda. Neanche mi hanno chiesto se volevo la tonica a parte. Per un pub è grave, per uno che sta a Plymouth ancora di più!!!!!

Popped in for lunch and had lovely fish and chips it is right on the quay just opposite the aquarium

Wonderful lil pub right next to the water. Staff are lovely and helpful. A lot of seemingly retired or otherwise unemployed patrons of questionable sobriety for a Monday afternoon, all of which I was envious of.

Great location and a nice relaxed atmosphere but... I got served a flat pint after having a few really good ones. It was clear to me that the gas had went off and needed changing but the staff were having none of it. They did change my pint, but for another flat one. I suggested again that the gas had ran out and needed changed. The bar tender who was clearly in charge at the time was having none of it and poured my already flat pint into another glass. I'd had a really nice afternoon but this put a dampener on it. I know my beer. I know how taps, lines and barrels work. I know what was going on. Bar staff should know how it all works. Poor show guys.

Absolute sweat box on a Saturday night and don't get me started on the toilets. Could you consider investing in Air Conditioning?

We come to Plymouth once a year and for the last few years came across lunch here. It does not disappoint at all. The husband, who does not like chips, ate all of them, stating they were the best chips he had ever had. He had Ham, Eggs and Chips and said it was lovely, and I had Chilli, Rice and Garlic Bread and it was really lovely. Always consistently good, nice clean pub, with friendly staff. Look forward to our next visit.

I went with my sister-in-law one lunch time, the dinners had bigger portions which was a bit too much for my small appetite but never less very satisfying and tasty. Staff were very polite and friendly. And as soon as we walked in we could smell how fresh and clean it was a very pleasant atmosphere too. Will definately come again

Always welcome atmosphere, good beer, and exceptional , amazing value food. Special of pork chop with roast veg and red wine gravy particularly good. Home cooked chips amazing.!

My husband and I were told we could only have plastic glasses which was absolutely fine, however the landlady was giving her special friends glasses, not right and not really fair

Always liked the navy before. But drinks in plastic cups and pervey middle aged men mostly in the bar is pretty off putting. Don't take women in here you end up swinging

Have been going in the Navy Inn for a number of years, always seems to be reasonably busy which is a good sign, it's now known as a bit of a 'lobsters' pub (I use that term in the 18th century military meaning).

Great pub, friendly atmosphere & staff. Great to see it still had a pool table away from the main bar. Enjoyed the live music, space to dance. Would recommend for a night out on the barbican. We went to other venues, they all lacked the same atmosphere.

Called in for drinks and the place was extremely busy which I think was due to live football. Large selection of drinks and a great atmosphere.

We came across this pub after visiting the aquarium and were really glad we did. Really impressed with the food and drinks, fairly priced. We’ll be going there again the next time we’re in Plymouth.

Went to go in for dinner just now but changed our minds when we saw staff sat right by the door smoking. Would have had to walk through a cloud of their smoke to get in. Not very nice experience!

The Manageress charges me GBP34.45 for a pint of Foster's....then throws me out when I point out her error and ask for a refund in cash!!! Are you kidding!!! Maybe she was hoping I was just passing through and wouldn't notice the error until I was back in Australia!!! DON'T GO THERE!!!
