The Woodside in Plymouth

It's not a fair review as I only visited once so I got the impression of a locals place, which is not a bad thing however old hotel banqueting chairs and expensive lager is not really appealing.

Lovely pub with some live music

Good place to watch football if you don't want a massive crowded pub. Sears there. Ideal formi day night football. Mainly a "locals" type clientele and a minimal amount of students use it. Quiz night one evening. All good.

Proper chirpy staff, nice neck oil, and real nice atmosphere. Top pub

Had my mums wake in here last Friday. Great Little pub and they put a lovely spread on. Staff were very helpful, friendly and polite. Reasonable prices too, all in all a very pleasant experience. Thank you all for making it a great day.

A lovely bar on the outskirts of the city... Like all pubs these days, they are struggling to fill it and subsequently they don't stock real ales... Which is a shame

Always a nice pint served by friendly staff. Sport shown on various tv's around premises. Dog friendly, pool table, a typical county feel pub in the city centre. Lovely 🍺👍

Outdoor seating area, pool, local events such as music, DJ booth, quiz, raffles etc. Seems like a great bar, it's cheap too which makes all that much better. £3.50 a pint. Friendly staff and good atmosphere. Dog friendly. Can't comment on the food but worth a visit if you're in the area for a few scoops

Popped in for an afternoon pint. Was lovely out on the decking.

Was recommended to go here as I was looking for somewhere to eat, walked down and told they got no kitchen at present but looking into it. Didn't stay for a drink as main reason for going was a meal

I can't comment on the food as I didn't purchase any, but I can comment on the cider. It was £3.50 a pint for a brand called orchard and it was lovely. It's definitely worth a visit as there's also an outdoor seating area.

There is now a nice menu and the bar staff are very friendly. they've got a pool table and live entertainment. They even have a happy hour so there is very nice priced drinks. [Edit] we just went for a roast beef dinner for mother's Day and it was fantastic. Each plate had a great big Yorkshire pudding on it and there was a separate side of cauliflower cheese and broccoli. The extra gravy boat was a welcome addition.

Jenny the landlady has got to be the worst I have ever come across. She needs to remember she is just the landlady of a declining pub and not the Queen of England. Her gob and attitude compliments her sour face immensely.

A popular local pub ,tucked away off a major shopping street in the Bretonside area of Plymouth. Very popular for Sunday lunches, the roasts are well worth tackling, huge platefulls with a great variety of veg and meat .

We had a fantastic christmas dinner in the woodside 23rd december 2022 .....the food was excellent and the staff brilliant ...i would highly reccomend this lovely pub and restaurant to anyone looking for a pleasant time out and great food

Having lived across the park for 17 years we’ve seen a fair few people take the pub over. We’ve always supported the woody, but have avoided it for a few years until today!! What a pleasant surprise. We decided to give it a try for Sunday lunch. Staff all very nice (chef even said hello and asked how our food was). Great big traditional roast for only £9.95. We will certainly be returning!!

Despite the pub being extremely busy due to a Xmas party, Jennie and her staff were excellent in their service on both sides of the bar, noone was left waiting to be served for long. Was a bit wary of returning to our old school pub because of the previous landlord but needn't have worried as the present team were brilliant. Thanks Jennie, all 15 of us had a great evening and we look forward to using your pub again in the new year.

Very friendly and welcoming staff

When I moved to area about 2 years the people in the Pub and Restaurantwere great, mostly locals and Keith was running a tight ship, no nonsense bar, no anti social behaviour, it was great. Since he left it has gone to ruin, not one of the new Managers have had control of their patrons and just keep feeding them more and more alcohol and then anti social behaviour kicks in. I wonder if we will ever have decent Managers in there again, I sure hope so, a bit of peace and quiet and good music would be great.

Popped in for a drink Saturday night, really good atmosphere and DJ playing great music.

Decent enough boozer, cheap pints

I was told this was a rough pub, but I went for a couple of pints on a Sunday afternoon. Friendly staff and managed to walk in on happy hour which made the pints really cheap. Good atmosphere and looks recently refurbished.

I Really enjoyed Music and Drink

The establishment had just opened and we had some temporary tech issues, but the gent there passed the time with humour and next thing I'm playing pool and enjoying some free tunes on the jukebox Noice 😘👌

Nice little pub good atmosphere. Food is good and reasonable prices. Only thing I hate is pool table there and not enough space to play as tables and chairs around and it's not big enough really for a pool table where it is

Early evening & we were served Doom Bar which was off.....not just on the turn, practically vinegar. A formerly cracking pub which seems to be going downhill fast. Staff frequently seem completely indifferent.

They shouldn't advertise karaoki night, when only one guy was singing and wouldn't let go of the Mike, and he sung songs suitable for a funeral all night. Staff brill though.

Went in for a few drinks Gor there land Lord very rude and drunk couldn't believe it charged not just us but another couple way two much and when asked for a price list he refused to give us one safe to say will not be visiting this pub again I think he needs help with his drinking

Woodside a pub that i don't go to much I suppose other people would like it especially if it is there local pub.

As per the title, the pints were cracking. Rounds of Doom Bar and Amstel were expertly pulled. That being said the music was diabolical. I cannot stress this enough, the volume was inexplicably high and short of quality. This is a Fundamental issue.

.BPretty good atmosphere, but i had a pint of Dombar, and it tasted a bit stale.

Went in for some food whilst waiting to go in the passport office. Nice friendly staff, food was ok, would definitely go back if am that way again.

Great pub, great bar staff. Good place too watch sports. Good food. Only problem is the landlord is rude to customers. Seems to close the bar when he feels like it. Closed it at half time of the liverpool/Chelsea game. Also didn't seem to have enough change in the till and even took money out of a box on a shelf and even his own pocket. He seems out of his depth.. Great pub though.

Nice quiz night on a Tuesday 9pm

Firstly i would like to add this is not a review on the staff or the people that drink here this is soley on the guy in charge . Tonight i witnessed the landlord as i first walked in eyeing himself up in the coffee machine picking his spots on his face he then proceeded to wipe his bloody fingers on the heineken tap absolitley disgusting healt risk to any punter drinking that leaves me wondering what am i drinking . I dont wish to caise trouble to the staff who have been lovely so far but are abused by him from what i hear . Will not drink another pint in here ever . P.s a friend bought me my drink i still will not drink it vile . After posting this i have told staff and they have removed beer taps and washed them to make sure they are cleansed . Once again the staff are not the issue here .

A group of colleagues opted to go the Woodside for their Christmas meal. Being really boring I opted for Prawn Cocktail, Roast Turkey and Treacle Tart. Given the price I wasn't expecting anything earth shattering just good pub food, something I have had at The Woodside in the past. So Prawn Cocktail, Prawns + Lettuce is not a prawn cocktail. No Marie Rose sauce included maybe this was extra. An oversight which I was willing to overlook, at least the prawns were defrosted(see later). The Turkey roast consisted of the following, 2 slices of sandwich turkey covered in gravy as if that hid the fact there had been no roasting here. They were tastless and had a very unpleasant texture. 1 small pig in blanket that had been cremated till it was crispy, enough said. 2 small frozen roast potatoes, it wouldn't have been so bad if they where Auntie Bessie’s but these were obviously cheap knock offs that had so many eyes they could have out stared my cat. Ate one left the other. As if to make up for this there was a small amount of what I presume was mashed potato, or should I say instant smash(I didn't know they still made the stuff) because that is the texture and flavour it had. Parsnip - nowhere to be found on my plate, this may have been a good thing. Brussel sprouts, apparently these were nice according to others, I can take them or leave them. Red Cabbage - This was overcooked to mush. A few carrot batons, they passed muster just. Then came the pudding, mine was supposed to be treacle tart, what I got was treacle sponge pudding with a dollop of ice cream. The sponge pudding was nice but then I am a sugar fiend. The ice cream was obviously cheap and rubbish. Others had Profiteroles, they weren’t defrosted which is a bit of a problem. That was it not good enough by anyone’s standards. Even the chef was apparently embarrassed to send it out, some of the others returned it and asked for alternatives. It is a shame because apparently last year the team went and had a lovely meal. The pub has apparently been taken over by Heineken and has a new manager, my advice stop serving food because this was embarrassing. To quote “We think that Heineken stands for a set of values rather than a set of words, and I think people will see that," says Heineken USA Chief Marketing Officer Jonnie Cahill. Well this meal shows the values, I am not sure they are the ones you want.

Enjoyed my couple pints, great atmosphere

We were staying just round the corner for a weekend Royal Naval reunion and chances on the Woodside on Friday night. We were looking for a quiet nightcap and found it. A very pleasant way to pass an hour. One of our number went in for breakfast the following morning and said it was excellent. Sunday arrived and we all (7 of us) wanted a good Sunday lunch so we decided to give the Woodside another go. The barman explained they were open until 5 as they were closing for a week for maintenance and refurbishment but here was a full menu and Sunday roast on offer. Seven roast dinners were ordered and duly arrived. Roast beef and all the trimmings plus extra gravy. The whole meal was excellent. The beef was beautifully cooked, lean and tender and the vegetables varied and properly cooked (no chef a’la ping apparent at all!!). We followed with apple and cinnamon crumble tarts and custard - home made and lovely. This pub is a little hidden gem and we look forward to returning on our next trip.

We had a meal here to celebrate my son's graduation last night. The bartender/waiter/ complete allrounder was under immense pressure on his own doing EVERYTHING but managed it with absolute calm professionalism and charm. Good meals and atmosphere.
