The best restaurants serving British food in South West

Limited food selection on Sunday, but the food is well cooked and the servings are large. The tap selection is excellent with cask ales and local ciders. The inside temperature is warm but not oppressive. The only downside is the common fishy smell found in English pubs, due to either poor ventilation or stale beer.

Lovely country pub with classic pub food. Dog friendly and perfect for a post dog walk lunch and drink!

Came here to meet some friends for lunch and we had reserved a table before hand. We all had something different from the main menu and it arrived fairly quickly and all our party enjoyed the food they had ordered. The staff were very polite and efficient on taking the food and drinks orders. Thank you will come again

Overpriced average food. Poor grumpy service.

My disappointment of The Elm Tree closing has been relieved a small amount in finding out both the Head Chef Emma and Paul Clark have moved down the road to Salt in Portland so I do not have to go far for an amazing meal now

Arrived at 2pm looking for lunch. It said on the board outside that food would be served until 2:30pm, but it was obvious when we started looking at menus that the staff were not keen on us ordering. Ok I kinda get that as it was just after Xmas and everyone has had enough and just wants to go home…What was more concerning was when we asked if the soup was vegan we got the answer “can’t guarantee it”. In my opinion if you don’t know what’s in the food you are serving you shouldn’t be serving it! My wife is vegan as a preference but for those whom have very strict dietary requirements you would expect better these days. So we made do with a beer and a packet of crisps each. To be fair the beer was fine and reasonably priced but would never go back. I guess it is more of a drinking pub than somewhere you would go to eat.

Lively pub with good food and beer. The fresh fish and chips were very good.

Great welcome from the staff here at this small village pub. We weren’t expecting such great tasting food & it exceeded our expectations. Friendly village pub, no frills but the core of the pub is definitely worth recommending & supporting their noticeable efforts. Dog friendly.

Lovely locals pub. Dog friendly. Staff are very helpful and attentive. Food is excellent. Great atmosphere (not like the modern so called pubs). 100% recommendation for The Green Dragon.

Our second visit for lunch, cheerful and helpful staff who always make you feel welcome. Plenty of choice on the menu, very reasonably priced and generous portion sizes. If you are looking for traditional food, value for money in a homely venue then this is the place for you. Looking forward to our next visit.

Great pint(s). Great pub. Great staff. A group of us spent a couple of nights here over New Year. I wish it was my local. Until next year....
