We'd tried a few pubs for Sunday lunch on our way back from Kidderminster, and all were too busy. Then, as we joined the A417, we saw a sign saying Highwayman Inn, next turn...so we followed it. Boy, are we pleased we did! A beautiful pub with really friendly staff, and a great atmosphere with everyone talking and laughing. Proper home cooked food, which was plentiful and delicious. It's exactly as pubs should be. Good beer, great food, and a welcoming atmosphere. If you're in the area, this pub is a must. You won't be disappointed.

I went with 2 friends for Sunday lunch, the food was good, the roast potatoes were a bit disappointing, they tasted like they were pre cooked and warmed up, which was a shame. The staff were very friendly and the pub/ restaurant was atmospheric, just a shame about the potatoes.

Everything was basically as expected EXCEPT for the food. We left somewhat disappointed. Not convinced the Highwayman Burger was 8oz in weight, but it was very tasty. My wife and daughter had the Bacon and Brie baguettes, they said tasty and baguettes were fresh. The 3 of us were very disappointed with the "skin on" chips - they were obviously made from very old potatoes, with a lot of unpleasant marks and did not look as if they had been well washed! Definitely need to change whoever supplies the chips. Service was good but a little slow.

I’m autistic and very fussy with what I eat. Ordered a burger (generally a safe food), got a pile of mincemeat that was still pink in places in a burger bun. I couldn’t pick it up. Without mince falling out. Eventually I complained because I couldn’t eat it. Got told that’s how the chef makes them. Said I would just eat the chips because I was on a time limit and didn’t want to order a new meal. Come the end of the meal, the manager refused to take it off the bill. She offered it half price because I ate the rest of the meal (chips) - I asked if a portion of chips was £8. She told me not to order a burger because she once ordered something with ricotta cheese when she hadn’t tried ricotta before and didn’t like it….(yes, I’m so unfamiliar with burgers, that I, a person who eats like a 5 year old chose to order one for the first time in a place I’ve only been once before) In the end we paid half price and I Left shaking and in tears, couldn’t even finish my drink. We Will never go there again. (Also the chips were overcooked. And the other person eating with me left her chicken). Clearly not a place relying on returning trade. I’ve never had to argue with someone about what constitutes a burger before!

Fantastic lunch experience, only spoiled by a scene caused by an entitled group of "customers" who felt it was okay to set up their own picnic after buying a drink whilst the kitchen was still open. Fair play to the landlady who was the epitome of polite trying to deal with these idiots. Unfortunately you run into these types of people from time to time, the entitled "we can do what we like and you should all be thinking yourselves lucky to be in our presence and breath the same air we do." Not a very nice snapshot of humanity tbh. Looking forward to returning again for some more excellent food. Oh, and your playlist rocked 😉😁😁🙏

We arrived as 3 couples and bought 2 rounds of drinks. This came to over £60. They were quiet with a few ‘locals’ in. We decided to sit outside due to exceptional weather. We had some sandwiches with us and saw no harm in eating them. A female staff member immediately and rudely took issue with this and asked us to stop eating our own food. The pub was quiet and due to close for the afternoon within the hour. We would have had another round but decided our money was not welcome.

Came and had a few drinks and a meal while enjoying the sun. Staff were accommodating and very friendly. Unfortunately for them we had to witness other customers give the staff grief and take advantage of the lovely outdoor setting. I have to say the friendly landlady dealt with the situation admirably. After having a group of about 6 “customers” come outside and with their drinks and set up their own personal picnic while the pub was still serving food for another whole hour. When the landlady reasonably asked them to stop (as who would come to a food led pub and decide it was appropriate to eat their own food) they argued with her saying that because they had purchased a drink it was reasonable to eat their own food. After the scene they had caused the landlady came over and apologised for the disturbance to our afternoon. However, the tables were clean and well looked after with gorgeous and bright hanging baskets. Big praise to the landlady for her amazing pub just a shame some customers take advantage.

This was our first visit to The Highwayman for Sunday lunch. The welcome was lovely and warm and we're made to feel welcome straight away. There was a good choice of meats for our roasts as well as a selection of other foods We both chose the lamb and it was delicious, with a good selection of veg that really did have that 'home cooked' taste and to see Syrup Sponge and custard on the menu was a hark back to comfort food of my childhood. And it was delicious. We'll be back 👍

A disappointing lunch to say the least. The reviews all seemed in order and gave the Highwayman a 4/5 star review but this couldn’t have been further from the truth. It’s as if the food offering is a throw back to 30 years ago, just like the decor. The meat was difficult to determine what meat you were eating, the roast potatoes cold or at best lukewarm. The gravy tasteless and the veg soggy from spending too long in boiling water. The service was also poor with little warmth and empathy for the clientele. It was a big disappointment and I couldn’t recommend it to any one and will not be going back. It’s not cheap and there are better options all around the county that offer better service, better food at a similar price points.

The Highwayman Inn is my favourite pub that does food in Gloucestershire. The ambience and history of the place is breath taking. Its got a proper olde worlde atmosphere with something to suit any palate on the menu and the presentation of your meal is restaurant standard too. The staff are really welcoming and the screen showing the Specials is just mouth watering ! I genuinely can't wait for my next visit. I would recommend you using a Sat Nav or looking at a map before you visit if you're not 100% sure of how to get there though, as although I've been several times before I don't drive so don't make the best navigator and we took a wrong turn and ended up in a traffic jam with all the Christmas drivers going visiting on the A417, which was pretty stressful ! We had booked our table for 1pm, then amended it to half 12 as we thought we were running early, but ended up not arriving til 1:40pm and the staff could not have been more understanding and laid back about it in the circumstances! I had Chicken Tartaflette, my boyfriend opted for Chicken Kiev & my Dad has his all time favourite of Lamb's Liver and we all enjoyed our food immensely. They also do one of my favourite ciders, Stowford Press on tap. Would highly recommend this good value, wonderful, fascinating and cosy venue to friends and family, and anyone reading this review. It was my turn to choose the venue so I started to look at somewhere accessible as one drives from West London, I drive from Devon and the third drives from the opposite side of Gloucester. I was finding it difficult to find a pub with consistently good reviews and The Highwayman stood out as having very good recent reviews so as it's been a long time since 2019 I thought we'd give it a go. We were not disappointed. All 6 of us thoroughly enjoyed our food which a lot of it was home produced. Anything less than 5/10 I write about, anything over 8/10 I write about; assume everywhere else is in the middle of the scale. We were at the Highwayman recently, for the first time. It's a beautiful 13th century natural Cotswold stone building which keeps the interior cool when it's hot outside. Inside among the period features the dining areas are set in very pleasant surroundings. The service was very good, many places forget the importance of a clean glass, cutlery and table. The Highwayman scored well for cleanliness. Many places are abandoning traditional menus in favour of a more Brasserie style, particularly in and around Cirencester. I was relieved the Highwayman's menu is a little more traditionally well presented with lots of options. Also taking into account some dietary requirements. I ordered a Highwayman burger and asked for a Gluten Free (GF) bun. When it came to the table I also got GF onion rings. I appreciated the effort and common sense. Whilst on the subject of GF, I asked for a GF lager, but they didn't have any. So if I would change anything then I would've liked to have had a GF lager option which I hope they introduce in future as the demand for GF and other specialised dietary requirements are climbing. I also hope they explore others like tomato, egg and milk a bit more. Large portion sizes, the Highwayman burger must be 3 inches thick, so the quality and value match the taste & presentation. The background music was subtle, not overpowering. What they do, they do excellently.... 10/10

We called in for lunch en route to South Cerney, traditional pub with quality food and friendly staff. Lots of drinks to choose from but i was driving, well worth a visit

Excellent friendly and welcoming service in this old inn. The food was good and a wide choice of typical pub food. There is a lot of character in the pub but I think it is well overdue for a refurbishment.

Looking for somewhere to stop for lunch and saw the Highwayman Inn sign on the side of the carriageway. What a find, warm welcome on arrival, friendly and interactive staff. The food was amazing and there was plenty of it - as you can see by the pictures. If you’re passing a must visit, you won’t be disappointed

First time back after recent refurbishment. Thursday lunchtime and not overly busy. Very few staff on duty. Those who were there, were rushed off their feet. Disappointed to see that some popular items have been taken off the menu. That said, our meal was hot and plentiful. This place is a magnetic for those who want feeding in a good environment. Service levels need to be upped.

We reserved a table in the restaurant for our wedding anniversary. The location is great. Very pretty establishment. Lots of outdoor seating. The staff were excellent. Good prompt service. Good menu content. Excellent food. Terrific value 👏 We would return.

Walked two hours to this pub to find it boarded up and closed. No notice on the website, and no update on Google. Even called and not so much as an answerphone message. Appalling.

Great service considering how short staffed and busy it was, and the food was fab! Slightly irritated by some unnecessarily loud guests, but that wasn’t the fault of the staff, and they didn’t stay too late.
