The Priory Inn in Cotswold

Stopped off with my brother on my way home to Winchester after visiting my sister in Dursley. This is our second visit and we were again delighted with the hospitality- delicious food and wonderful friendly staff. Only wish I lived nearer.

I live locally and had no idea this Hotel had new owners! I went for lunch last Saturday and it was amazing, again today for Sunday Lunch! The food, staff, service and literally everything about it is exceptional. Can’t recommend it enough!

I don’t tend to write reviews but felt compelled to after such an amazing roast with friends this weekend. A cosy pub, really friendly and attentive staff, reasonably priced and the best roast I’ve had in a long time - highly recommended after a long walk at the arboretum.

Lovely food. Amazing centre pieces.

I booked the priory as we were visiting Highgrove gardens and the national arboretum nearby. It is in a great location in Tetbury and has a decent sized car park. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. Our room was a twin room, it was a good size and nice and clean, the shower was great and a good temperature. I ate in the restaurant the first night and was hesitant about dining alone but the staff were super friendly and put me at ease offering me a table away from the busy side of the restaurant. The food was superb, I’m usually a fast eater but I took my time and savoured every mouthful as it was so delicious (I had the beef brisket, if it’s on the menu, I suggest you try it), I was enjoying myself so much I ordered a pudding, so as to extend the experience, again the staff were very obliging by delaying my pudding order to give me time to digest. Breakfast was great too, the only downside was despite there only being two tables of guests in the restaurant for breakfast at the time we went, we were sat next to each other and the other table was a large loud table, making conversation at our table difficult. That said I would definitely recommend the priory and if I was in the area again I would definitely return.

What a fabulous find! We were warmly greeted even though we had not booked, the staff were friendly and helpful. Our Sunday roast was delicious- my companion was thrilled with his GF Yorkshire pudding and delicious dessert. I think having Australian staff added to our enjoyment. Would strongly recommend a meal here!

This Priory Inn in Tetbury is quite exceptional. The ambience,the efficient, friendly staff, the food ,all are to be commended. . Rooms are comfortable and well equipped. Obviously managers are doing a great job. Just got to recommend this as a top spot in charming Tetbury. I

TLDR; Amazing food, Amazing service. I've just come back from having food at The Priory. I was blown away by the super friendly and efficient service, and the food was spot on. I had BBQ ribs which is a favourite of mine, and these were the best I've had in 20 years. The ribs were really meaty and decent size, and were served with a well balanced BBQ sauce that was just sweet enough, fruity and tangy but not hot. Orders were taken quickly, the food arrived soon after and when we'd finished we were able to get the bill and pay with almost no delay; this part of the service is so often under prioritised. All the staff were very friendly and helpful - we felt most welcome. What's not to like? :)

We had a lovely meal at The Priority tonight. We had the wagu burger, the chicken pie and the mushroom gnocci. It was all absolutely gorgeous. It really was. 10 out of 10 for taste and quality of the food. The service was very good and genuine. We will definitely be back.

I stayed here as I was at a wedding near by. I cannot fault this hotel at all and I thoroughly enjoyed my stay. The breakfast was fantastic and the staff were very lovely. When we arrived, we were welcomed and shown to our room. We missed the kitchen being open for an evening meal by about 10 minutes to which they still accommodated for us and cooked which was brilliant. I would definitely stay here again, plus the area of Tetbury is beautiful!

What a fab hotel , very friendly staff , rooms were lovely , comfortable . The only very small down side I could say , if you have a disability ( my dad is amputee ) who can manage stairs a bit , but needs a walk in shower , there are no bedrooms on ground floor that have this facility , they only have baths . Also no shower chair for showering , which was on we brought our own but not everyone can . My parents had a lush room no faults just hard to go up and down the stairs . Our room was delayed in check in but the very very lovely manager gave us a complimentary breakfast as an apology , and we were going to a wedding evening and the chef cooked our food before opening time , which were very grateful. Defo go back there again lovely little quiet town and food out of this world to be honest the menu was amazing . We had a first class stay at The Priory Inn. The staff could not have been more friendly or helpful. As it was a Sunday evening the bar was shut but we had received an email letting us know and suggesting other places to eat. The room was clean and comfortable and the cooked breakfast was delicious and gluten free was catered for. Really, top marks all round. Thank you for a great experience.

Found this hotel by chance , and when I enquired as to vacancies Natalie in reception was very friendly, she treated my wife and me as if we were old friends Natalie was always smiling and most helpful in informing me of sites of interest around Tetbury, The staff were most polite and the food was FIRST CLASS this is an Inn you must visit if in Tetbury, Thanks to all the staff for making my wife and i most welcome.

I spent 4 nights at The Priory Inn during July and had a superb stay. The welcome and checking in was perfect and I was made to feel welcome immediately. Early morning starts for me meant I was unable to have breakfst at the hotel, but I was able to eat in the restaurant each night where the food was lovely along with perfect service. It was very nice to sit in the lovely outside area and enjoy a drink or two, again with perfect service. Thanks Natalie and Matthew, I had a really great stay and please pass on my thanks to all your team for making my stay so nice and comfortable. I've already booked for next year, so its a 5 Star "highly recommended" from me. Thanks

I really enjoyed my chicken burger last night. It was Georgous especially the kimchi. My complements to matt and the team. Staff are always pleasant and polite and also there is a great atmosphere.

When in Tetbury just get in here and prepare to be impressed!

We had not planned our visit but as guests from The Netherlands we had a very tasty lunch. Perfect hostess and service. Our dog wants to return because he was welcomed as king Charles (Skot)

A very well presented dining experience. The service is attentive, the menu is extensive and the food is of good quality. The dining room is light and airy, tables not too close together & you are not hurried. A definite repeat experience.

Second stay here, great base for exploring this part of the Cotswolds. Food is excellent and the team are lovely and look after everyone well. Already booked another stay for a concert at Westonbirt.

Stayed at the Priory overnight BH Sunday (which unsurprisingly was the busiest day of the year so far) as part of a large family gathering before a wedding. I cannot speak highly enough of the service we received from Natalie and Matt. From the initial booking and arrangements over the phone, through check in and a superb evening meal, we were made to feel very welcome. It actually felt as if we were visiting old friends. I rarely write reviews but just occasionally you come across somewhere that deserves a shout out and the Priory Inn was certainly one of them. We will certainly be looking to visit again. Staff very friendly. Restaurant noisy lots of children running around.It was half term. However the criticism we have is we booked this restaurant because of good reviews but also because they advertise home made chips. We are fed up in the UK of being served frozen chips . Often spoiling a meal. However there home made chips were tasteless and looked as if instead of being fried in something with flavour had been put in an oven. Not resembling home made chips in any shape or form. Why in this country cannot chefs and cooks make chips ?

We had lunch here on 2024/4/19. The food was good and the staff at the bar were very pleasant, and appeared proud to tell us that they worked for Arkell's and gave us some details of the brewery's pubs and their geographical extent; all while they were busy attending to a double birthday party. Five stars.

We popped in for an afternoon drink whilst spending the weekend in Tetbury. We liked the vibe so much that we booked a table for dinner and weren't let down. All three courses we each had were great, lovely wine and above all, the friendliest, warmest service we've received in a while - notably from the manager. Highly recommend The Priory Inn

Superb meal, great price, service every thing we wanted for our last meal in Tetbury. The restaurant was spacious, good menu with plenty of choice.

Met friends for a Sunday lunch . Food was excellent and great value. However what made it exceptional was the superb and friendly service from every staff member . Will be going back .

Lunch here with our vegetarian daughter and vegan boyfriend and my husband and I who are not. Staff clearly run off their feet Sunday lunchtime but still managed timely and cheerful service. No one was massively hungry so we didn't test the menu to the maximum. We had the smoked mackerel pate which was served with salad and the - now obligatory, sourdough toast. Very pleasant. No vegan starters so the younger two had olives and bread. Main courses were two nut roasts and two tagines. And just coffees after. All good. One negative which isn't that uncommon when meals are served in cast iron dishes - the staff warn you not to touch the dishes as they are very hot. I'd say that actually, you could get quite a nasty burn if you accidently touched it. And the downside of this is that unless you have an asbestos mouth, you'll be sitting there for about 15 minutes before you can attempt your food - as I did.

we were visiting Tetbury for the day on Monday 8 April and looking for somewhere for lunch. We ordered 3 dishes off the small plates menu, soused herring potato salad, Portobello mushroom with black cheddar rarebit, and loaded potato skins with pulled pork mozzarella and hoi sin were absolutely exceptional both in flavour and presentation. there were many other interesting dishes we could have chosen We look forward to our next visit as I would travel again to Tetbury primarily to eat here again. we are even considering an overnight stay as it seemed such a lovely place.

We came away to The Priory for a 2 night break with friends midweek. The food was superb - they have a great chef! I had sticky ribs the first night and hake the second. Both were beautifully cooked and served. The meals were all served together which is often not the case when you are a table of 8. The service throughout the hotel and restaurant was exemplary. The only thing that needs a bit of attention are the bathrooms. The rooms have been upgraded and are lovely but the bathrooms do need to now be upgraded too. I appreciate that this is expensive but it’s the only thing that lets this great place down tbh. We overall had a super time and nothing was too much trouble.

Mum and I loved it here. The atmosphere was cosy, the staff were very friendly and we enjoyed a relaxing afternoon by the fire. I've just spent another lovely afternoon here with my friends. We had lunch together and again the atmosphere, service and food were lovely. I would definitely recommend coming here for lunch. I had a 'small plate' meal which was just the right amount for me but I'd you have a bigger appetite just as chips or go for a 'large plate' meal.

We booked at the last minute and where not disappoined . the meal was wonderful the service was first class!! the young staff were smiles and could not do enough they were a delight and had wonderful customer service skills well trained . Thamk you all for the wonderful evening.

Now run by Arkells of Swindon. Good food at reasonable prices. Recently changed the management team and things are on the up. Busy and also support local community organisations.

Had a great stay, the rooms were clean and nicely decorated. The beds were comfy. We had everything we needed. The staff were all very friendly and the service was excellent. We met up with family & friends and they too were impressed and said they would stay here and recommend to friends. It's walking distance to the high street, we had parking for our car were we would maybe struggle to park in the town. walking distance to The royal Oak, were we had a meal and we walked to The Snooty Fox for drinks. We will definitely stay here again and we will definitely recommend to others. Location is brilliant. Big thank you to Natalie, Rob & all the team.

It was clear from our one night stay that Matt and Natalie Starkey lovingly run The Priory with a warm and passionate team of staff who make you feel like a special guest. Their team were very attentive, helping us carry our luggage to our room, making us feel relaxed and welcomed and fitted us in to an already busy dinner sitting. Natalie was very hands on and greeted us personally at our dinner and breakfast table, making sure we had a fantastic experience. This is a hotel stay that we will remember and we would love to come again in the near future

Wow! You will not be disappointed! The pub/restaurant is gorgeous inside, open fire, wooden beams, good atmosphere & the food… well that is brilliant! We stayed at the managed house & had breakfast but you can read the review on that on the hotel page. My partner & I had 3 courses each. I had the Patê to start, & he had the Gambas. The portions are great for a starter, and then the mains! Oh my! I had the brisket & it literally melted in my mouth! My partner had one of the specials which was pheasant Kiev - he said he was the best meal he has had for a long while! We both gave it a little while before ordering puddings but again the portions are generous. We had a lovely meal & will definitely be back for more!

I booked to stay for my husbands birthday for 1 night as we’d been curious for some time. The experience didn’t disappoint! Tetbury was perfect although could have done without the rainy weather lol the service was my absolute favourite throughout the stay I wish I could remember their name as I’m writing this quite late but the manager was incredible. Dinner was 5 stars. We had the home made chicken leak and ham pie. This thing was huge and so hearty. We ate sat next to an open fire which had been well thought out by the bar manager. Phenomenal service! We called them on the day we were going to book and they were instantly so nice. From the moment we arrived Natalie greeted us like old friends. This continued through the day with Rob knowing us by name when we got to the bar. They continued to make us feel like friends all evening. They have perfected service!

Seven of us had an exceptional meal here on Saturday 24 th Feb. All the staff were very nice and polite. All the food was outstanding. The drinks were all good. All in all a very nice family evening, we will definately book again.

Visited on a Monday evening. Fairly quiet. Warm welcome and good table by the fire as per my request. Delighted to find that 3B was on tap. It was nectar! Kept really well in the cellar. Nat Rob and the team made our Ruby anniversary extra special, the room was clean and tidy not very spacious but all we were doing was sleeping in it, the ensuit was small but functional. I was planning to grab a quick pub lunch on the way home from holiday, but found The Priory and had a banquet. Rare rack of lamb cooked exquisitely, with a mint jus, tenderstem broccoli, red cabbage, new pots. Not my intention to have pudding but this meal was so delicious I needed to know what came next..... My wife and I changed our meal arrangments after viewing the Menu in The Priory Inn and we were not dissapointed. From the time we entered the bar for a drink the staff were extremely helpful, polite and welcoming. I had the T-Bone Veal which was lovely and my wifes vegitarian option was Teginne which was equally delicious. The restaurant has a very pleasent atmosphere and all the staff were polite, attentive, efficient and welcoming. No atmosphere, probably because lighting not very atmospheric- too bright. Hardly anyone in restaurant but service was awful, got forgotten about had to go and ask for someone to take our order . Once taken, food took ages. Definitely won't be returning.
