Our stay at the hotel was thoroughly enjoyable. A combination of seeing friends nearby, and celebrating my wife's birthday. A personal touch of a hand-written note and chocolates from Joanna and her team was a lovely touch, and much appreciated by my wife. A distinctly 'character' hotel with retained period features consumate with a 16thcentury Coaching Inn, added to the oveall ambiance. A good selection of menu choices in the restaurant for the evening meal whether you went a-la-carte or fixed price. Breakfast also provided a good selection of both cooked, and/or continental offerings. The positioning of the hotel with ease of access to the vast array of shops, in the town centre is reflective of the pricing, but we found the staff, polite and accommodating, and would not hesitate to recommend.

A beautiful spot in the centre of a beautiful place. The staff are the most friendly team I have had the pleasure to meet. They cannot do more for you and are so polite. Our room was an unexpected surprise, large and well equipped. Comfortable bed, lovely spacious bathroom and lots of little flourishes which made our stay extra special. We celebrated our ten year anniversary here and were greeted with a lovely handwritten note and some delicious choccos. The breakfast, oh my! Such a vast array of quality pastries, cereals, juices, meats, cheeses…. And the full English was locally sourced scrumptiousness. Highly recommend. Will not dissapoint.

What a wonderful stay. Massive thank you to Jo, for going the extra mile to make sure all my needs were cared for. I have MND and use a wheelchair, I can walk a very small distances but require help. Jo made sure there was a shower chair in my room and grab handles on the wall, the room was beautiful, it had one step into the bathroom but that was perfectly manageable for me and there was space in the room to get around in the chair. Every single member of staff were fantastic, attentive and polite, even helping us with luggage to our car. We had evening meal in the restaurant and breakfast in the morning and the food was excellent. I couldn't find a fault. Beds were comfy and both myself are my friend had a great nights sleep. Thank you everyone for a lovely experience.

I have to start by saying this is clearly a lovely hotel and many other people have had a brilliant experience. My room was £150 a night which to me is a decent amount but I was going to a wedding so wanted somewhere nice to stay. The bed had two mattresses stuck together so you could feel a firm ridge down the middle where they join. When I used the shower on the day of the wedding it was cold - obviously these things can happen but it was incredibly disappointing. It took me a long time to get through to reception to let them know (they were very busy with checkouts). By that point I had to get ready and leave. When I got back to my room after the wedding my room key didn’t work so I had to go back to reception to get it fixed. When I went back to my room it didn’t work again so I had to call them to get me into the room. Also the view from the window was just a brick wall and I could see directly into the room next door. Overall I didn’t have the best experience but it seems like other people did so maybe I was just unlucky

Popped in with my wife for a pre-dinner drink. I ordered a dark cherry rum with coke and a Cotswold dry gin and tonic. 10 minutes later, it still hadn't arrived. So I watched the bar staff serve other people and after another 5 minutes, I asked for a refund because we had a restaurant booking.Only to see a notification from my bank that he'd charged me again!!! So I went back in and asked for a full refund of both charges. I said to the barman that it wasn't good enough only for him to mutter an apology under his breath. But it didn't sound sincere and no explanation of what went wrong. As I can't review the quality of the drinks, the service was diabolical but the ambience was lovely. Hence the 1 star. If you go here, then I hope you have better luck than we did so don't be put off.

We stayed last night (22nd march) and found the hotel perfect. We had a lovely room with a nice view of the square. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. The bar was well stocked and again staff were brilliant. We went for dinner there and it’s a great open kitchen and myself and my wife could not of enjoyed it better. One little problem this morning there was no hot water as a boiler broke. But it is what it is and they gave us a bottle of champagne as an apology. We can’t wait to come visit again. Joe and SJ

A truly exceptional hotel. I stayed here over the Christmas period and managed to book a good deal for a standard king room last minute (literally 2 days before my arrival on Christmas Eve). The price was much cheaper than the standard advertised price. The room was lovely. Modern and yet felt historical complete with a small private patio to sit and unwind under the stars. The service was excellent throughout the stay, and there were some lovely touches, such as the manager leaving a handwritten personalised Christmas card to myself in the room. Also, I had ordered a cheese platter for one, but the chef accidentally prepared a platter for two, but the hotel kindly charged me for the one instead. The hotel was tastefully decorated with the perfect amount of festive decorations. The location was excellent...right in the heart of Cirencester in Market Place. All in all, I can't fault this hotel. An excellent choice...highly recommended!

Appalling customer service. 20 minutes wait at the bar to order two coffees. Staff everywhere but no one serving. Also wrong food menu out for the bar area. Would not come back. Edit response to reply. If you think 20 minutes wait when there is only 1 customer in front of you and they themselves were served by 3 different staff only to disappear without fulfilling their order then you are surely to fail as a business.

2 night stay bed an breakfast. Room stifling as soon as walked in with the tiniest window that opened a few inches. Tried turning air conditioning on. Came on for a couple of seconds then went straight off. Spoke with receptionist next morning. Said would speak to house keeping and supplied us with a stand alone fan. The air conditioning was never fixed. Paid for bed an breakfast. Waited 35 mins after being seated for our order to be taken. Breakfast was served which was lovely but again had to wait a good while for milk to be bought out for our coffees. No teaspoons so just used a knife to stir. Second morning, service was quicker. Breakfast and coffee ordered at the same time. Never received the coffee. We Was never told that only the continental breakfast was included in the bed a breakfast charge so upon checking out we paid an additional £54 for 3 hot breakfasts. We would have ate elsewhere on the second day if this had been known to us as the service was poor the day before and probably would have got a better meal and service at a cheaper price elsewhere. Instead of paying twice for breakfast. Would not make a return visit.

Wee cheeky weekend away, hotel beautiful, service outstanding, rooms large and very comfortable, great shower and you can bring your dog. Only 4/5 as the room was hot so we had the windows open and it was quite noisy when the pubs/clubs emptied then early start for the market set up (there is air con but that’s a bit noisy too.) Cirencester is a beautiful town one of my favourites , plenty to see and do.

It was also good value for money. Cirencester was very busy, and if I went again I would book a table for dinner in advance.

The entrance, off the main square, is through a beautiful double glass door with many large candles in large glass lamps placed on the floor on both sides, creating a delightful effect. The hotel has been decorated with a predominance of browns, beiges, creams and greys. Well designed, albeit not to my taste. The hotel is well staffed by teams of well-trained, smiling staff who are very pleased to ensure you have an enjoyable stay. Our room was an Indulgent Room on the third floor. It was very spacious, with the hotel 'colour scheme', and was very comfortable, with views out over Market Street. The breakfasts were first class, freshly cooked, and with a huge buffet of continental choices. Parking at the hotel is very limited, but the Waterloo car park is a 3-minute walk away, and it uses a system that allows funding of next-day parking. We were very pleased to have had a restful and luxurious 3-day stay.

So the hotel has great potential - its a lovely place with a few really large vaults. Firstly, as others have stated, the rooms stink of drains. You initially think it's not that bad. We woke up, and it was pretty awful - we just wanted to leave the room as fast as possible - it actually made us feel quite unwell The spa which we tried was OK- other than the fact they have domestic stlye baths in there that don't appear to be filtered and the water smelt. Not to mention, they kept the lights down low purposefully since there was mould everywhere. Massage was OK Food- very poor - the breakfast was boardline edable but EVERY person present whom ordered a full full English left most of it. How hard is it to not have bacon with ribbons of uncooked fat. The mbb restaurant below average - I had steak for £32 which was basically a minute steak about 1cm think and luke warm. Extremely overpriced for what you get and worse than anything you could get at a harvester. The service, however, was great. I won't be back and for the prices this would have been (we luckily had a voucher) it's terrible!!

When visiting a friend, we have stayed twice in this hotel and eaten in the restaurant once. We booked a deluxe room both times and were not disappointed, other than the somewhat musty drain smell on one occasion. The rooms are large and well equipped. The bed was comfortable and the breakfast was very good indeed. Our evening in the restaurant was also very good (we had steaks) and the service was friendly and efficient. There is no on-site parking, so it is a short walk to the nearest car park and a drop off point at the front door.

We were staying on one of the hottest nights of the year and decided we didn't have the energy to venture back outside after some very nice cocktails in the lovely bar area - despite being a chef down and a hen party to cater for (in a private room), front of house were very helpful and got us a table. There was no pressure to over-order - we weren't that hungry with the heat and just ordered two starters and then cheese and dessert - everything was perfectly cooked and presented, (mushroom risotto and crab linguine, both yum), staff were lovely and the prices reasonable for the excellent quality. The staff still managed to smile despite the heat and running up and down stairs for the private function all night. A couple were back on the breakfast shift having to work hard all over again and were still smiling. Thank you to all, we really enjoyed it and would come here again,

Had dinner in the brassiere as staying at the hotel. Very attentive friendly waitresses, with lovely decor & open kitchen to watch the chefs. Had an Arancini Parmesan ball starter - bland, barely taste Parmesan, lack of seasoning & could taste flour in the creamy sauce. However did have a nice crunchy exterior & soft inside texture. Followed by a fish stew main served with garlic bread. Lovely fresh taste, added own black pepper & salt - good variety of fish, mussels & prawns with cherry tomatoes & potatoes in the soup. Enjoyable, but lacking slightly.

We booked a last-minute room here, as everything in the Cotswolds seemed to be sold out for Saturday night. The price was quite high, but it looked like a nice hotel right in the heart of Cirencester. Parking was a nightmare. We were unable to unload bags at the front of the hotel and ended up just walking from the car park a few blocks away. After checking in, we decided to take the stairs after waiting quite a while for the single lift, which was never available. The trek to the room was surprisingly far from the staircase, with several additional random steps up or down in the long, winding corridor. We entered a small, absolutely stifling room with a tiny window and no functioning air conditioning. As there was also no phone in the room, this required a return trip to the front desk to address the temperature issue. The staff tried to remotely turn on the air, but it was inoperative. We were told that no maintenance person was available to fix the broken a/c. The room was so uncomfortably hot, there was no way to stay there. The hotel agreed to refund the almost £300 cost of the room, but it was very inconvenient to find accommodations for the night, which required driving well out of town. Awful experience.

Again this review is only for the bar area. We usually love visiting the bar here. It’s cosy and comfortable and service is generally excellent while the drinks are great. December has been a bit of a disappointment unfortunately. Poor service - non-existent one evening when we just left as there was no one to take our order. Quality of cocktails varied widely depending on who was mixing them - one I actually returned as it was so poor. It might be Christmas but please don’t let things slip. We really love the atmosphere here and the usually friendly and efficient staff. But we’ve had too many poor experiences this month . I do hope things return to normal in the new year.

After a couple of cocktails, we shared a starter, then my husband had the duck while I had the guinea fowl. Both were beautifully presented and absolutely delicious. Following that we shared the small cheese plate. The server was extremely polite and attentive, popping back frequently to ask if everything was okay. Very pleased overall, and would definitely recommend the restaurant, I would also advise readers to ignore the negativity on here. What's not to like - atmospheric hotel in the centre of Cirencester, lovely bedroom and surroundings...... However our meal was mediocre at best, totally overpriced and the service over-attentive and too fast..... was a disappointment. If they can get their act together, all the ingredients are there......

Great stay and great bar advice from the lovely DAVE. But seriously room was faultless and the spa service was top notch. Food in the restaurant was on point and the atmosphere was just right.

My husband and I booked for dinner on a Saturday evening and came away disappointed. The food was okay, but for the price point you'd expect more. The best dish was the mushroom soup with truffle oil - that was souper tasty (sorry!), but we had the Chateaubriand sharing dish and were really underwhelmed by it. The beef itself was fine, and cooked nicely, but the accompaniments were just lazy - a few limp leaves, flavourless grilled tomatoes (why not oven roasted on the vine?!), a small jenga stack of triple cooked chips and a little pan of mushroom and bacon bits. At most you'd call it solid pub grub, but definitely not fine dining.

The meat main was bland and the vegetarian main undercooked and tasted of pepper (I saw multiple plates being cleared that had barely been touched). There is no way that the vegetarian option was of similar cost to the meat (despite a set price per head), and the fish was shockingly small. Everyone on my table was equally unimpressed. The desert took ages to be brought out and none of the staff informed us that tea/coffee was available outside the main room, meaning we all wondered if there was going to be any and then only saw it when we left.

We tried to eat here and were told the restaurant was full but we could eat in the bar - at a table within easy arm's reach of the restaurant tables. The table hadn't been cleared of glasses and was messy, despite plenty of staff standing behind the bar. It transpired that we could only have a very limited and uninspiring bar menu at the table and the hotel refused to let us order from the restaurant menu. Needles to say we left and wont go back. The food may be good, we just don't know. Clearly the restaurant didn't need our custom!

What can you say about a ground level hotel restaurant. If they served breakfast as part of our stay the hotel didnt bother to tell me BUT I did have a drink. The bartenders were friendly, the bar interesting looking but loud and we also had tea. Not a great selection of sweet items with tea, but it was just fine.

With the old operating company having gone bust, you would think the new company would learn and offer some service to draw in locals, but no. Treat people like idiots and they wonder why the place is empty on peak nights....being a local we have not been in for over a year but having a friend down we tried again but were bitterly disappointed.

As part of a weekend stay at the Kings Head Hotel my Girlfriend and I, after much persuasion/suggestion from the staff at the check in desk, decided to book a table in the hotel restaurant for dinner on our last night. So far as my dining experiences go, this for me was a bitter disappointment. The Kings Head Hotel it's self is great and so naturally we were expecting the same standard of the Kings Head Restaurant . However this was not what we received.Upon arrival at the restaurant, over a selection of empty tables we were seated directly behind the host position. This in it's self was not such an issue but did however feel as if you had an additional person dining with you as the member of staff continually turned round to examine your table, which if it lead to prompt efficient service I wouldn't have minded but it did not.We were seated for approximately 15 mins before our drinks order was taken, while watching countless staff members walk by and not acknowledge us, at which point we were ready to leave and go else where. When we finally received our drinks order after having been seated for 25 mins in an all but empty dining area, the waiter simply plonked an ice bucket with our wine on the table and 2 glasses and walked off. When it came to the meal there was a set menu with limited choice hindered even more so by the fact that one of the meal options was now unavailable. After accepting the 3 choices I had, i opted for some mozzarella bread sticks and pickles to start which were sad to say the least, followed by the pork loin which on arrival after a further 30 mins looked under cooked but yet still somehow burnt on the surface.Desert then followed with a selection of macaroons which were actually the high point of the whole experience, but still not enough to save it.When we had finished our deserts we waited for our plates to be collected so we could ask for the bill. This literally took 40 mins, at which point my partner actually had to stand up to signal over a member of staff from the far corner, to take themselves away from the group chat with colleagues to assist us. At which point the ever looming host turned round and decided she could handle the mammoth task of issuing the bill. When the bill was issued we said we would like the service charge removed due to the poor experience we had. The host simply grunted and removed the charge without even asking what the issue may have been or seeking feed back.Overall our experience of the Kings Head Hotel Restaurant was less than satisfactory. We expressed this opinion to the member of staff on the check in/out desk the next day upon our departure. She apologised to us and explained that currently the restaurant had no manager and they were experiencing big staffing problems which ultimately led to our poor experience. Her explanation, although understandable did not excuse the service, or lack there of that we received nor does it justify what other guests must have experienced or the price they see fit to charge for such a poor performance. Not somewhere I'd recommend for food in an area surrounded by such good dinining establishments.

Visited the Kings Head a few times over the years. It’s had a superb renovation and offers lovely bar & restaurant areas, even if there is a large, cold space when you first walk in. However we have always had somewhat disappointing visits. The staff never really seem to know what they are doing and you always feel like you are their first ever customer! However the food is good, quite pricey for what it is. I don’t like the compulsory service charge even if your just having a sandwich. So in summary, good ambience & food but pricy and very mixed service. Dog friendly.

£13 for two drinks was crazy but the surroundings were nice enough. There is a roof terrace upstairs which sounds more glamorous than it actually as you can't actually see any views through the wooden slats all around it. Dont visit if you're allergic to dogs - everyone had one. Except us :(

Came to the kings head for a birthday meal with my partner as have walked passes several times and thought it looked quite nice. The interior is nice and stylish but lacked atmosphere both in the bar and restaurant.Front of house staff were very friendly and attentive and obviously knew their jobs well.My partner ordered the Caesar salad without anchovies but that obviously got overlooked in the kitchen which spoilt his starter.Main course steak was ok but nothing special considering the price. My falafel burger sadly was basically inedible as it had been cooked on what can only have been a very blackened griddle as all you could taste was acrid charring which left such a bad taste I couldn't face a dessert and it spoilt the taste of the wine which was the best part of the meal at a reasonable price. My meal was taken off the bill but would not go back considering how many other places there are to eat in cirencester

Very attentive Italian Maitre d' & staff but it lacked atmosphere.Food was fine and reasonably priced for the centre of the town. Drinks were reasonably priced, too.But you walk into the hotel via the bar and into a wide area that is the restaurant. For this type of establishment we were expecting something with more ambience and a little more distinctive setting.Heaven only knows what was hanging on the walls as decorative items but suffice to say it was all rather eclectic to say the least! There is a choice of a la carte or fixed menu with a choice of two or three courses. Reasonable prices. But it is difficult to explain there was something lacking that would have helped blend everything together to give the place ambience and warmth.Pleasant enough place but we wouldnt go back! Such a pity with such attentive staff.

The Chef (Dave?) at the Kings Head Restaurant deserves a medal. Our meals were superb. I had stone baked bass (TWICE) one evening after the other! It was so amazing. My hubby had chicken and next visit had Fish and Chips (to die for) his words not mine. The desserts were dreamy. Wish we lived in Cirencester..The staff are great also.

Had a Saturday lunchtime here, just a sandwich as we were eating out in the evening. Menu was very tempting though and food coming through looked very good. Generous portion sizes. However - service was completely shambolic, from first pitching up at the bar to get a drink to actually ordering food. A fair number of staff around all of whom seem to have been trained in just one thing which is walk around not making eye contact with anyone. Get your act together Kings Head! this could be a wonderful place for lunch but as it is I would recommend going elsewhere unless you have oodles of time on your hands.

This was amazing value for money. The spa area is spa and intimate.. I wouldImagine they only allow 6-8 people in at a time. But means it's very chilled. We both had a 50 minute treatment that was included .. was excellent! And lunch .. food was amazing.. a real treat. You are given a budget for lunch (£18.50 each) and you just pay the extra. Level of customer service in each part the property was excellent .. my husband especially enjoyed being serenaded by the lady on reception whilst she sang beautifully away to herself .. not realising my husband was sat around the corner (Irish girl ) Would definitely recommend this location for a spa day / lunch / dinner.

Such a disappointing visit.Encouraged to book a table for dinner as guests in the hotel- staying for 2 nights- and I really wish we hadn't ruined what had been a good stay. The hotel can't be faulted with it's central location, beautiful decor and great spa facilities. However it begins and ends there. We sat and waited for 15 minutes to be offered a drink when we arrive- a straight forward custom that should be done within the first 5 minutes of customers taking their seat. When our waitor finally came over to take our order and returned with our wine, it was dumped infront of us in the ice bucket- again- it's custom to break the seal and offer to pour the wine. The menu was poor, limited and very uninspiring. It was clear that the charcuterie meats were left overs from the breakfast service- which we'd seen that morning.Again we waited sometime before our table was cleared for our main. My partner's roast beef was fatty and chewy- and despite leaving practically a whole slice untouched- because it was clearly unedible- no questions asked. By the end of our meal we were eager to leave frankly- no one came to take our bill. We stood up by our table to draw attention to the fact we wanted to leave- and still were ignored. When I requested our service charge was removed from the bill I was ASTOUNDED to not to even be questioned why we wanted it deducted- no care given whatsoever as to what we could be unhappy about and therefore no attempt made to rectify our experience. It's left a very sour taste in both our mouths and I wouldn't return to the hotel as a whole purely based on this service. Working in hospitality myself I am so shocked that simple hospitality etiquette has clearly not been trained to your staff and such lack of attentiveness is given to paying customs. People from all over the world are paying for an experience that is in no way acceptable or represents our British hospitality standards. I suggest your management team invest in better training for all staff IMMEDIATELY.

This Hotel is in the heart of Cirencester. Prime location. It should be the number one place to stop off, visit when in the town. Yet, every time I go there it fails to deliver.Stopped for a coffee. Service was so slow and I sat for 20 minutes before anyone even approached me.Asked for a half shot latte and it was awful, with at least two shots. No attention to detail. You have been operating for over a year and still can't seem to get it right.
