Great service considering how short staffed and busy it was, and the food was fab! Slightly irritated by some unnecessarily loud guests, but that wasn’t the fault of the staff, and they didn’t stay too late.

We came here for a Sunday roast and I cannot believe I paid £17 for that. There was only one veggie option and for that price I got two potatoes, a quarter of a carrot, half a parsnip, some green, a veggie terrine, and a Yorkshire pudding with the tiniest amount of gravy. I left starving and would definitely not come back or recommend it to anyone. Shame because it has a beautiful location. Service was meh

I've just visited for a fantastic Sunday roast. I had pork and my friend had turkey. Both meals were excellent - really well cooked (vegetables done just right, separate bowl of cauliflower cheese) delicious crackling on my pork, crispy roast potatoes and Yorkshire pudding that we were almost too full to eat. They were very busy but the service was excellent - there were enough waiting staff keeping an eye open. It's a lovely pub too. A very pleasant experience, thank you.

Room was £80 for the night, without breakfast. Most similar accommodation would be £100 or more. Very pleasantly surprised by the room. Spacious with a comfortable bed. Shower room was clean. The only details were that the cups on the hospitality tray were very chipped and the area around the guest entrance area would have benefitted from a tidy and smarten up. Otherwise, very good and an excellent price.

A chaotic experience! Drinks order for a cider was messed up. Dessert menu consisted of three items hand written on a scrap of paper. We ordered the Apple crumble and the ice cream was missing when served. Belatedly ice cream arrived, albeit not vanilla as promised on the scrap of paper. Finally, we had to pay separately for drinks and food?!

We had a really delicious Sunday Roast here - the presentation was excellent and everything had a really delicious flavour, so all enjoyed our meals very much!! The chef was very vigilant and attentive to dietary requirements too and we were made to feel welcome. The only thing I would say about our first experience here was that even though business seemed manageably steady (it wasn’t overly busy), the wait staff came across quite stressed - it’s possible they were short-staffed, which would’ve been understandable. All in all it was a great eating experience, so would highly recommend and go again for a fabulous roast!!

Update: Returned a second time only for the most bizarre bill paying experience. Drinks are now part of a separate company, but not all drinks, hot drinks are pat of the the food bill and no, nobody wanted a VAT receipt. Even if one person had have wanted to settle the bill, we would still have to calculate this from the three bills presented. Service as a whole has become a farce - when it's not particularly busy. The food itself was still really nice, although arguably the the menu has dipped, and it took ages. The steak did look really good... as tmdid the fish and chips, and the burger was... but honestly, I just don't see how the food business wouldn't purchase the drinks from the drinks company so the present a single bill, if for some reason there's a need to split services when it's operating as one venue. ************************************************ First time returning since it's been taken over. We'll definitely be back!!! It was busy, and the manager told us there'd be a short wait on food because there were some larger tables ahead of us. We almost went elsewhere as the kids were starving... but very glad we didn't. The food is fantastic! Kids' menu options were really nice, and devoured. The pastrami sandwich which came with skinny fries was the best I've had outside of New York! The team that work at the Golden Cross were brilliant - friendly, attentive even as they got increasingly busier. As said, we'll definitely be back. Some of the other good looked incredible and can't wait to try it.

I stayed here on a Thursday night in April as a group I’m part of had booked the function room downstairs for a meal. Sam the manager was incredibly friendly and welcoming, taking my suitcase up the stairs for me, being an attentive host for our large group and explaining to me some of the history of the pub, the street (Cirencester’s oldest) and Cirencester itself. The main course of our meal was a fillet steak, and cooked to perfection when you consider that steak is a difficult dish to serve for large numbers. A very comfortable night’s sleep in a freshly refurbished room, then in the morning I was allowed to leave my bags in the pub after checking out to enable me to have a wander around the town. All in all, a fantastic pub which I look forward to returning to soon!

Lovely pub, we were accommodated last minute as I had an early hospital appointment and not being local decided to stay closer to the hospital to avoid traffic We had a lovely welcome, shown our room etc and cannot complain, the room was beautifully decorated and spotlessly clean. However, the fire escape/emergency lighting in the room was so bright we struggled to sleep so I would suggest taking a sleep mask *this isn't a complaint as I guess it's a health and safety thing but honestly its so bright at night time. Having said that, we are eager to come back and have a proper look around the town etc as having never been I was pleasantly surprised by how lovely it is! THIS REVIEW IS NOT ABOUT THE HOTEL SERVICE. JUST ABOUT THE BAR. Brilliant place on a backroad in the heart of the town. Brilliant staff and a really enjoyable experience there. Drinks are reasonably priced in comparison to the rest of the town. The only fault I have is the lack of space for non food patreons at points. Apart from that (which is a very small nit pick due to their big outside area that you can go to if the weather is good), it's a great place to go.

The manager was so unbelievably rude. Booked a table for the Sunday and popped in on the Saturday to have a look at the menu. Asked to see a menu as none on display. Manager was just serving someone so said let me just do this and I’ll come back to you. Absolutely fair. Waited in the bar when another staff member came up to me to ask if I was ok. Said yes just looking for the Sunday menu. He said I’ll ask my colleague. I said no need he’s going to get it. He asked anyway and the managers response was (like I wasn’t even stood there). “I’ve already told her I’ll get it. Perhaps she could have some patience!!”. We walked out and safe to say didn’t come back for lunch the next day. Had a lovely lunch somewhere else with lovely polite and pleasant staff. Will never return.

Well I don’t really know where to begin never have I been so rudely treated by hospitality anywhere. Table was booked a whole month in advance for a large family of 9 and we specifically requested the stage table, one for space and two to help us stay contained. We were seated in the old skittle alley which was no issue and all was forgotten about. The Guinness! I don’t know what you have done to it but it was bitter and resembled Coca-Cola great big bubbles in it and in a dirty glass. I made the waitress aware it was actually making me feel sick and handed him back a half full/half empty glass. He said sorry………no offer of a replacement FML! Starters came out and they were lovely, hot and in a timely fashion no issues here. Another drinks order was placed with the male waiter of one wine and cider but he had to run off to get his notepad as he left it at the bar. As if he couldn’t remember two drinks of which we had already told him the pellet! Everybody was happy with food and couldn’t wait to get stuck into our mains after a historical visit was exceptional. The starter table was cleared and were asked if we wanted deserts by said pellet WTF we replied we haven’t had our mains yet! We starved for just over 45 minutes. When the food came it looked great. Flavour, quality and quantities were there however 7 out of the 9 plates brought to us were cold. Told the waiter only to be told ‘sorry’ again…. That was it. Our food was also served at different intervals where some people had finished before others had received theirs, still cold. We asked while eating for the desert menu and Pellet said we don’t normally serve desert while mains are still out, all the while two children and two adults had finished their mains because of there staggered service. I guess it was getting tough running all 9 plates through the microwave. One dish was a pork roast so my sister in law asked for some apple sauce and never received, my wife asked for mint sauce and it was pretty much thrown at her. We finished up and couldn’t be bothered with deserts by this time so sat in the sofa area to finish up our drinks with a few family and friends that had arrived for a drink. The coffee machine was to the rear of us where there was a seat. Fair game if you ask me! I sat there and to entertain children I pretended making realistic noises to make them a coffee. A rude foreign women was walking between us and shouted at me to not touch the coffee machine when I hadn’t I was simply making the noises and had a dirty cup in my hand off our table. This is where pellet two came out. Pellet two with a tattoo up his neck and a sh*t shirt. Preaching to us we must move out the way all stressed and flustered. 120 covers today and he was seeing his arse with rage. The bill was already paid and they preceded to get ruder saying things like MOVE please rather than excuse me! My wife and sister in law went to the bar by this time to give feedback. They informed the manager in the sh*t shirt where he just got on the defensive saying everything we said isn’t true, seemed to have an answer for everything and kept telling them he had 120 covers, maybe they should have not taken so many bookings as they clearly couldn’t cope. We then caught him relaying this information when we’re leaving to other customers, Professional! By this time I just wanted to throat punch him but children were present and I was pushing my newborn. Rant over for this sh*t show and rude staff. Keep your £25 roast dinners gold and Guinness bitter The golden cross Cirencester is a sh**ter!

Been to this pub a few times and usually the barman is friendly, however the last time we came he was very rude. We came in for a quick drink and as we had our toddler with us and we asked the barman for a teaspoon as our son wanted his toddler yoghurt. The barman started being quite rude saying that they do kids food and said next time don’t bring toddler/baby food in here and order off the menu as they are a food pub!! I told him that our child is fussy and has specific dietary requirements and the fact he is only 3 and he was still rude even though we had spent money at the bar. They are very accommodating for dogs in the pub but obviously not children!! I find this completely bizarre and such an odd thing to say, does he say this to families with new borns that are Breast feeding or formula fed?? This is so sad as we do normally come here for a drink with our son however after this comment we shall not be visiting again and will be going somewhere more excepting of a 3 year old!!

So myself, my husband and my 3 year old son stopped by this pub today to just have a drink and a chill. Myself and my husband ordered some drinks and usually we bring a few snacks to keep our toddler entertained so we can relax and enjoy our drinks so today we accidentally left our spoon at home for our son to have a yogurt so we politely asked the guy behind the bar if we could borrow a tea spoon. He gave us one but was completely rude and said ‘ we do a children’s menu ‘ my husband said ok but we’re not having food, we’re here for a simple drink and just require a spoon for our little boy to have his yogurt! The guy then continued to say well we are a food pub so we need to remember that for in the future and not to bring food in future! We were completely dumbstruck and shocked at the rudeness and found it such a bizarre thing to say. Our son is 3 and we were there for a drink NOT food!! Does he say this to all other parents with children if they don’t order food, I sincerely hope he doesn’t say this to newborn being fed breast milk or formula as that’s not on the menu ( excuse miss/mrs, we do have a children’s menu ) what an odd and stupid remark, we will not be returning to this pub again which is a shame as we have actually been regular customer up until today!!!

RUDE, poor, overpriced food and no interest in customer satisfaction! We went for a celebration lunch with our daughter who ordered a burger, I ordered a crispy BLT and my husband the fish & chips. At £16, £9.50 and £17 a pop respectfully, I expected the food to be good. To be fair the fish & chips were good, but thats where the satisfaction ends. The 'crispy' bacon I ordered was hard and inedible and made my teeth hurt from trying to chew it but the really terrible meal was the burger. It was gristly and full of tough, sinuous beef. The majority of it was inedible and was left on the plate. I told the waitress that the burger wasnt very nice and she said she'd tell the chef. When the bill came my husband asked if they were prepared to do anything with regards to the poor burger. She rudely replied that the chef said 'the meat was good and two other cutomers had had the burger with no complaint'. She went on to say that, 'they weren't like a chain of food shops where they can take money off'. Her condescending and rude manner made it very clear that profits were firmly placed ahead of any form of customer satisfaction! What a disappointing and upsetting experience we had when our intention was to celebrate. I wouldnt recommend this place to my worst enemy!

The Resaurant Manager was arrogant and dismissed the fact that two of our four meals was burnt. We asked him to tell Giles our complaint but we had no reply Very disappointing we had a lovely meal on Father’s Day and were very happy

A great place to eat. The food is delicious and the staff are friendly, bonus is it is dog friendly. My husband and I had the crayfish tail and salmon linguine, it was full of flavour.

A pleasant place for a drink or two. The guy behind the bar was very friendly and the Arkells beers were well kept. I can't comment on the food but the diners we saw seemed happy.

Walked two hours to this pub to find it boarded up and closed. No notice on the website, and no update on Google. Even called and not so much as an answerphone message. Appalling.

Stopped in the Noel Arms twice while in the area for food. Enjoyed their adorable coffee shop area & had a separate sit down dinner. The coffee shop was adorable & decorated for the fall season. I had a great oat milks latte & vegan cake slice to go. I noticed they had a sit down dining area & we came back for dinner later on. Dinner service: The dining area was busy for dinner service but staff was quick to tend to us. They had a decent selection of British pub fare as well as a selection of their award winning Indian dishes. They also had clearly marked vegan dinners - which is why I came in. I got the vegan sausage & veggie dish. It was alright. The sausage & veggies were on the oily side. (Which caught me sort of off guard but it wasn’t bad!) But in an area that doesn’t have many vegan choices- it was a blessing. I also got their Naan bread with hummus as a side. That was amazing. The Naan was hot, fresh & seasoned so well. The hummus was the winner. So delicious to dip the Naan in. It was a very quiet & relaxing dinner. Staff was great.
