Worst restaurant i've ever visited.Food and drink was slow to come and had store bought ham with my dinner. Wouldn't recommend going here unless you want to wait for a while and eat store bought food. Chips were also undercooked had no joy eating it at all. Took a while to be seated.

We ordered three fish and chips and one sausages and mash. The lack of actual fish and portion size was very disappointing. Not sure what fish it was but it was greasy fkat and soggy. The sausages were overcooked and dry, the mash was tepid and lumpy and the carrots were cold. The two staff were overworked and we didn't complain at the time as they were doing their best. We would not return to this venue and would recommend others eat elsewhere

After reading reviews, we were sceptical about dining in, however after hearing that management had changed, we decided to give the Red Lion a go and were not disappointed. Two of us ordered the fish and chips, which were lovely, fresh and filling, especially the hand-cut chips. They had a day special of a steak burger, which my husband thoroughly enjoyed. No desserts were ordered as we were stuffed after the main courses, however menu looked good. All staff were friendly and helpful with any questions we had and enjoyed our drinks in the garden after the meal. We will definitely be returning, and can highly recommend to anyone looking for a chilled and spacious pub dining experience!

Closed again. No real surprise as the owners, Stout & Stone pursued a line of catering to the lowest common denominator and turned it into a youth club replete with slot machine and pool table. Trouble is Stout & Stone pubs appear to be not much more than glorified chain pubs with no real leadership or direction. So here’s my advice as someone who knows what a good pub is. Get a decent landlord who will get a top notch chef and kitchen brigade in. Ditch the cheap and nasty food and attract a clientele who are willing to travel to you. Look at those pubs that are really successful, they offer great food and attract a discerning clientele. This pub as it stands offers nothing different from the rest of what is on offer and that’s not great in Chipping Campden .

Booked a room here weeks several weeks ago for a wedding, they arbitrarily cancel at the last minute giving no justification leaving us to panic find a new room. I'm not sure if they understand what sector of the service industry they're in, but when people book a roof over their heads it's kind of crucial for the business to keep that contract. Dismal.

Based on a less than satisfactory lunchtime experience I am thankful that it was the limit of our involvement. The fish and chips meal was very poor in all respects with the fish being of poor quality and hard to find in the depths of the batter. The chips were unevenly cooked and dry. Only the peas were above criticism. There was only one person serving and covering two bars so he was doing his best.

We only visited for drinks and food. Fors : friendly young staff, characterful. Got a pool table. Against: very small interior, old fashioned inside. Smoke alarm bleep was constantly going off. Had Sunday lunch. Beef was quite tasty, Yorkshire puddings nice. Vegetables mainly uncooked or tasteless. Roast potatoes weren’t roasted, were undercooked and tasted nasty. Disappointing and quite expensive with no offer of any discount for not being able to eat it. Unfortunately would not recommend for food.

As a family, we adore visiting the Red Lion Inn. The staff are incredibly friendly and accommodating, always going above and beyond to ensure we have a wonderful experience. We've dined here numerous times and have never been disappointed. Their menu offers a delicious variety of options, including a lighter lunch menu that's perfect for a casual meal. The pub itself is a charming Cotswold building with a lovely outdoor seating area, creating a relaxing and inviting atmosphere. The warm lighting, cosy décor, and friendly staff make it the ideal spot for a memorable meal. We highly recommend visiting the Red Lion Inn!

This place must be under new ownership because we attended based on the wonderful reviews and were met with genuinely one of the worst experiences I’ve ever had at any pub. The roast was one piece of badly cooked meat, mounted on three flavourless soft ‘roast’ potatoes, with a minuscule burnt aunt Bessie’s Yorkshire pud on the side. As if this wasn’t tragic enough, the ‘seasonal veg’ consisted of BOILED parsnips, boiled carrots and boiled mangetout. I’ve never seen boiled parsnips before, and with good reason, they were truly awful. On top of all of this, they ran out of napkins? We were given two on the table, no explanation and when we requested more we were simply told they’d run out and their delivery was tomorrow. I really don’t leave reviews very often but this was actually shockingly bad. I could go on, I hate to say but really wouldn’t recommend.

Following a recent bereavement the family decided to have another get together in less sad circumstances, so 16 of us turned up for a meal and 8 of us with 2 dogs stayed overnight. Chipping Campden is lovely place to stay and the Red Lion is a lovely characterful venue. The team serving the food and drink we're brilliant, nothing was too much trouble, the dogs were welcomed and we felt well looked after. The food was of a high quality overall. The rooms were seperate from the main hotel and were all clean and homely. The beds were very comfortable and we all slept well, helped no doubt by the alcohol imbibed through the night. Breakfast was served in the morning with a smile in th main bar area. Overall we had a great stay. A big thank you to Alan and his team for making our stay a memorable experience. We would not hesitate to go back again.

Curry tasted like it was from a jar, the chicken was stringy and, bizarrely, contained lots of baby sweetcorn. Belly pork was tough, flavourless and arrived on wet mash and packet gravy, rather than bubble and squeak with a black pudding fritter. We advised the waiter, who spoke to the chef and acknowledged we weren't served what we ordered. However, the bill wasn't altered or reduced. No apology or explanation. Wish we'd read the reviews before going. Safe to say we won't be returning. Shame, as the location is lovely 🙁.

Pointless booking online as it looks like staff don’t look at those bookings. Gammon was very poor- thin and salty. Peas were like bullets. Asked for mustard which never arrived. Lasagne was greasy. We would expect to pay cafe prices for that food, not the prices paid. When I paid by card on phone, the title of the payment came up as another pub, not Red Lion which is very strange.

This place must be under new ownership as it has a totally different vibe to the last time we were there. Actually - it has no vibe at all!! A) staff looked bloody miserable and like all the joy had been sucked out. Could barely utter a word. There was no atmosphere of happiness in the pub at all tbh. B) Food was probably the worst we’ve ever had at a pub. Curry was watery - it said on menu it comes with a naan but instead I got a burnt popadom! Asked where naan was, said it doesn’t come with one. I only ate it as I was starving having been at work all day. My wife debated about having nachos, we all laughed and told her ‘ you can’t go wrong with nachos’. Apparently this pub can! How the hell can you serve cardboard thick, burnt crisps with the wateriest salsa, and something we assumed was cheese (could hardly tell as there was hardly anything on there). No pride at all. It summed up point a - depressing! They didn’t come out to ask how the food was - assume because they know it’s terrible. We came here with a friend who was down during her trip as I went there a couple of times a year ago - thought it was a safe bet. safe to say we won’t be coming back again. Give your heads a wobble.

Wish I could give it zero stars. We went for dinner - excited to find a pub in CC to watch the Euro Cup - they claimed to be out of everything we tried to order but offered us free pizza which never came. The waitress was outside vaping with a customer and the bartender was nothing but rude. Nobody seemed to want to work there. Actually, I'm glad the food never came after reading the reviews on here and as a result, we ended up stumbling on a lovely place down the street. Would never go back nor would I recommend it to anyone!

Disappointing food When the food turned up it was almost a small plate of mash and gravy with some peas on the side. The liver and bacon which should have been the star of the dish were sparse at best and the gravy was just packet stuff. Also ordered a pint of prawns as a starter to share but was told when we got back to the table prawns were unavailable but we could have the pint of sausages. When it arrived it was served with the mains it was barely half a pint if that so just sell it as half a pint of sausages and you will be honest and the customer won’t feel robbed or fooled by the advertising. All in all not great and best go elsewhere we will tonight and the rest of the weekend

My wife and I visited on a Sunday for lunch and we were genuinely surprised by how good the food was. We had the pork belly bites to start, which were perfectly crisp and juicy. Only criticism was that it could have used a bit more of the sweet source, but still delicious otherwise. What we were both hugely surprised was though was the quality of the roast beef lunch we both had. Normally pub roasts can be a bit of a mixed bag, but every element was nigh on perfect. The beef was cooked brilliantly, the Yorkshire puds were light and fluffy, and there was a tonne of veg that was all flavoursome and properly cooked, too. Even the gravy was bang on! We’d honestly travel again from Milton Keynes for the Sunday roast…. a million stars!

Our Chipping Campden writing group chose to go to a new venue for our Christmas lunch and get together. Words fail me due to this awful experience. We had hoped to eat together. This proved beyond the scope of the kitchen despite having 8/10 members previously booking their choices. Discovering a slug in the water jug after many of us had partaken of a glass was disgusting. Removing the jug was not sufficient. We had to ask for new glasses!! A simply health and safety action. My meal ordered from their menu was £16. It comprised of a bun with a bratwurst sausage drizzled with cheese and a plateful of chips! £16?? I returned it uneaten. Despite several members trying to contact this establishment, all emails are ignored. Shame on them.

Sitting in the garden, we enjoyed a selection of lunchtime dishes, which were all excellent. The town is beautiful and the pub also. The garden, a little more utilitarian. We had a very dozy barman, who must have been on his first day. Inexplicably there didn't seem to be any local Cotswold beer on tap, and there are many excellent breweries only a short distance away. But overall, the food won out - that was the highlight.

The Red Lion is a classic style, traditional pub with the bar sort of split to serve different areas of the pub. My wife and I stayed here for 3 nights recently while attending a wedding nearby. All of the staff were very friendly and welcoming, and there was a good selection of drinks at the bar. The breakfasts were also very good and served quickly. However we were disappointed with the cleanliness of the bathroom, and the minimal daily cleaning of the room. As far as we could see, the housemaid had just spent a few seconds each day making the bed! The tea/coffee cups in our room were never cleaned or replaced, nor were the shower gel and shampoo tubes. Although we received one batch of replacement towels after one day, the dirty towels were left to pile up in the bathroom until we left after 3 nights! The bathroom sink was definitely not cleaned during our stay either. We weren’t expecting the quality of The Ritz at this price - the room was also very narrow as you can see from the photo - but we did expect the room and bathroom to be cleaned properly each day to a minimum standard, and dirty items removed and replaced.

We had the cobs one with ham the other beef excellent washed down with cider. We didn't want a full dinner and this fit the bill. Old world typical English pub. Worth a visit.

Planned to do some hiking and seeing the Cotswolds and thought Chipping Campden would be a good base. It was. Lovely little town. The Red Lion Inn was ok. Clean and breakfast each morning was fine though I think that I would stay somewhere else in CC next time just to compare.

昼食で利用しました。食事は普通だと思います。あまり大きくありませんが、食事の後に散策した裏手の庭が綺麗でした。

Visited with friends hoping for a pleasant break in the Cotswolds. On arrival it was the only hostelry in main street that was closed.Found someone who showed us to our room. You enter via a seperate building and are met by the smell of mould. Rooms whilst clean had paint flaking from the woodwork and windows had a very amateurish form of secondary glazing. no evening food available (on days we stayed) although would not have wanted to dine. Everywhere appeared very run down and place needs complete refresh. It was difficult to see if the place improved in the evening as we went out to eat and relax. There didn't appear to be any management onsite and one would be embarrased if any foreign tourist chose to stay here.

Walked two hours to this pub to find it boarded up and closed. No notice on the website, and no update on Google. Even called and not so much as an answerphone message. Appalling.

We reserved a table in the restaurant for our wedding anniversary. The location is great. Very pretty establishment. Lots of outdoor seating. The staff were excellent. Good prompt service. Good menu content. Excellent food. Terrific value 👏 We would return.

Great service considering how short staffed and busy it was, and the food was fab! Slightly irritated by some unnecessarily loud guests, but that wasn’t the fault of the staff, and they didn’t stay too late.

Stopped in the Noel Arms twice while in the area for food. Enjoyed their adorable coffee shop area & had a separate sit down dinner. The coffee shop was adorable & decorated for the fall season. I had a great oat milks latte & vegan cake slice to go. I noticed they had a sit down dining area & we came back for dinner later on. Dinner service: The dining area was busy for dinner service but staff was quick to tend to us. They had a decent selection of British pub fare as well as a selection of their award winning Indian dishes. They also had clearly marked vegan dinners - which is why I came in. I got the vegan sausage & veggie dish. It was alright. The sausage & veggies were on the oily side. (Which caught me sort of off guard but it wasn’t bad!) But in an area that doesn’t have many vegan choices- it was a blessing. I also got their Naan bread with hummus as a side. That was amazing. The Naan was hot, fresh & seasoned so well. The hummus was the winner. So delicious to dip the Naan in. It was a very quiet & relaxing dinner. Staff was great.
