We stayed in Kingwear for a week, visiting Dartmouth and the surrounding area most days. This was the best meal out we had for the whole week. Lovely friendly staff, good service and truly yummy food

The food was absolutely delicious and a cut above normal pub food. Two of us had crayfish and prawn ravioli and one had Leonardo’s lasagne and both were wonderful. Both dishes were freshly made and I would not hesitate to recommend. It is great to see the ship providing such high quality food and it appears at long last to be in good hands and thriving.

This pub has a fantastic warm ling atmosphere and the staff are really helpful and friendly. I always look forward to visiting. The food never disappoints! Reading the 1 star comment below, this sounds like a YOU problem, maybe you’re really annoyed at yourself for not thinking ahead and booking a table at a very popular pub during the busiest time/weekend of the year! Fantastic pub for playing darts and having a great time. They have a good food menu and selection of drinks. Highly recommend chatting with Andy if you want to have a good time. They have two dart boards, one is in a great spot with excellent lighting, the other is on a slanted wall and more for decoration than serious playing. Awesome place overall 👍🏻

Stayed nearby and this was a recommendation for somewhere good to eat It was so good we returned the next evening and ate there again Lovely atmosphere and great views The service was great , really friendly welcome both evenings and drinks order straight away ( no waiting an age for someone to come over to take an order ) Menu snd specials looked really interesting ( not just the usual pub food ) and everything was so tasty when it arrived ( which wasn’t a long wait ) My Tomato soup was amazing as was the roasted Sweet potato and goats cheese main. The next evening I had the soup again as it was so good and followed it with a halloumi burger which was excellent My husband chose the salt and pepper squid both nights to start and said they were delicious and he had fish chowder one night and the fish pie the next Both dishes looked smelled and tasted wonderful We ate everything!!! Too full for pudding !! Drinks / wines were really reasonably priced Absolutely recommend anyone to try this pub as it was fantastic both nights

I can honestly say that I had the best Sunday roast yesterday, than I've had in years! The beef was so tender, roast potatoes and Yorkshire pudding were perfect and the vegetable were to die for. I would recommend booking ahead on a Sunday but I was lucky enough to be squeezed in. The views are sensational and to top it off the prices are highly competitive. It's such an amazing pub serving the best food. How can you go wrong? Thank you to Hannah and Leo, I will be back!

Whilst staying in Dartmouth for a few days, decided to take the lower ferry to Kingswear. In February there were a couple of pubs open & we decided on The Ship. Fairly quiet when we walked in at lunchtime, just a small number of tables occupied(would imagine in summer it’s a completely different matter) One youngish man behind the bar(who almost looked astonished that someone had walked in) Drinks ordered & BLT with chips. Both ok presentation & taste wise. I know it was a quiet lunchtime service, but a bit of background music or interaction (we tried) with member of staff would lift the atmosphere. Dog friendly so that’s a definite bonus.

Food was ok but pricey, staff incredibly friendly and superb service. The reason for the low overall score is finding out that when the staff are tipped for their excellent service that the manager/owner takes their tips if the till is out. I cannot agree with this practice, if I tip someone I fully expect for them to get the full amount or for it to be shared with their colleagues as it is my money I am giving to say thank you to them. For that reason this establishment deserves a poor review

We were pleased to see The Ship Inn busy again after not being so for a few years so decided to give it a go for a meal whilst down on our annual holiday. Unfortunately, however we were left disappointed with both the food and service. The favourite dish (I was looking forward to anyway which was the Thai curry) on the limited menu had already sold out (at 7:30pm) and there was only 1 special on that evening which we were informed there was only 1 left of. Therefore, I chose the Cajun chicken burger which I can’t deny was really nice however the fries it came with were soggy/under cooked and the coleslaw it came with was literally a spoonful. The fish and triple cooked chips were particularly poor - the batter on the fish was soggy, and the chips were barely cooked let alone triple cooked! The sausage and mash meal was the best choice in our party and was enjoyed, and generous with 3 sausages, although we did have to pay £2 for (hard) peas in order to have some veg with it. We won’t be eating here again, although would probably enjoy a drink here occasionally.

Sadly, when I came here, I was looking to pass an hour before catching the last bus to Brixham. The weather, the live music on the sumny terrace, the extensive menu, the local beers, and friendly company of the people who offered me a seat at their table as I ate, made me want to stay later. Further less-than-total-perfection came when I was told the kitchen wasn't taking any more orders (despite the advertising board saying otherwise) owing to the chef being busy enough with the fully booked tables inside later on (book beforehand, if you want to eat here). I had to make do with a packet of salt and vinegar crisps to satisfy my fish and chips craving. I would suggest two ways of achieving perfection. 1, badger Stagecoach into running their bus services later than 19:00 in the summer, or sort out your own minibus shuttle service (with The Ship Inn plastered all over it's sides to draw in business); 2. Hire more seasonal kitchen staff to spare the poor overworked chef, and accommodate itinerant walk-ins. (Oh, and if budgets are an issue, get some of your local regulars to chip in - if they can afford to live in Kingswear, they can afford to support their local pub!)

The pub itself is fine, but you definitely want to avoid the so called reggae/dub night. PURE BABYLON & we are all so disappointed. The organisers of this event should ask themselves this simple question, 'why do all the local people who love reggae, steppas, dub, dnb only come once & leave early?' Absolutely shocking
