The best restaurants serving British food in Hart South East

A very disappointing "roast pork" Sunday lunch. Precooked sliced pork, very undercooked vegetables, roast potatoes were almost white and not in the least crispy and when asked whether it came with crackling, we were told not... whoever heard of a roast pork lunch without crackling. My friend and I ate half our lunches as didn't feel it was worth asking to change food... we could tell it wouldn't get any better than what we were served. Add insult to injury, after advising our waiter the food was terrible, we were charged a discretinery 10% Service charge, which was laughable as I had to go to the bar area to ask the waitress for a dessert menu, whilst she and her 2 colleagues just milled around chatting. The Manger was rude when questioned why he wasn't fazed by our complaint of the awful roast lunch, he just said "you ate half of it"!! First and last time we will eat there.

My mum and I have been coming here for years and always been friendly staff and superb food,especially the cream teas! Haven't been for a year or so and decided to visit today, what a shock! Lovely tables and chairs are gone? Looks like a mis- match of furniture obtained out if a skip? Chairs ripped and nothing matching? Staff unfriendly, food awful! Used to get a scone of your choice with home made jam and clotted cream served in little ramekins now it's no choice of scone, roddas clotted cream that's rock hard and the smallest plastic jam portion! Coffee was like watery milk too? So so disappointed that this once lovely little tearoom looks like a dark and dingey old front room from the 70's! Girl on the till was quite unwelcoming and frosty! Such a shame.

Nous nous y sommes arrêtés pour un apéritif et un diner. Belle demeure raffinée dans la jolie campagne anglaise. Un trés bon repas accompagné d'un bon vin. Notre maitre d'hôtel trés sympathique parlait parfaitement français. Nous avons passé une excellente soirée.

El servicio excelente y la comida era buena y la comida estaba bien presentada y la calidad excelente.

Excellent quality - but a bit pricey

Popped in here with my daughter and her friend after an Explorers evening. The pub was clean and tidy, and the staff were friendly. We just had three soft drinks and the prices were average. We sat on a bench outside. Would recommend it for a quiet drink. We didn't have food so I can't comment on it. There are several steps up to enter the pub. Not sure if there is an accessible entrance.

Awww what a little gem . The staff are all soo lovely 😊. The food , absolutely amazing .so sad that we found you on our last night here we will definitely be coming back. Very slow food service for sandwiches. Very dry & tasteless Club sandwich, not worth waiting for. Waitress lovely & knowledgeable. Shame as it's a lovely venue. Food & slow service let it down.

Decided to eat out as a short notice celebration. We chose The White Lion because our daughter liked the look of the options on the menu. Food was great and so was the atmosphere. Leanne, our server, was polite and very attentive. Overall an enjoyable experience.

Friendly, warm and welcoming, perfect for a casual meal with friends or family. The menu has a great variety of hearty options, and the portions are generous—definitely great value for money. Thank you to Sue who served us, and was polite and professional!

Mid, at best. Very small portions at a high cost. Vegetables were stale on some dishes. Waiting staff were attentive but we had to ask where our food and drinks were multiple times (our drinks were on the bar for 20 minutes). The highly regarded sundaes were mostly melted by the time they arrived at the table.

Perfect service and I was kept inofrmed that the order was running a little late. The notification took it down to the final minute when the driver rang the bell!

We had a lovely family birthday celebration meal here last night for my daughter's 30th. 14 of us sat at a table with lake view which was perfect. The service was fantastic from start to finish - nothing was too much trouble and we were greeted with a very warm friendly welcome and this continued through the evening. My family thoroughly enjoyed the evening, all the food was delicious. Very prompt, kind and patient table service throughout. The staff accommodated me bringing in a birthday cake and presented it perfectly to my daughter singing Happy Birthday with us. Perfect end to a lovely memorable evening. Thank you so much to all The Heron on The Lake Team we cannot thank you enough and will definitely be back for another visit soon 🙂
