Good seasonal menu choice, loved the game casserole. Treacle tart reminded me of my Granny's. Cosy fire and friendly service. We had a nice New Zealand white, draught Aspalls and alcohol free Guinness.

Stayed in my camper here for 3 nights this week after a recommendation from a friend. Food is just what I wanted, simple and beautifully cooked. Food you eat when you’re hungry and cold! And the burning log fire helped with that too! There is a side salad but I asked to not have it when you see pics. Staff were genuinely friendly, I can not rate this place more highly. I will make this a regular visit going forwards. Thanks for the hospitality!

We went there with a bigger group at 12 on BH Monday. We were told that we have to wait about 45-50 minutes for the food. After waiting that long they showed up with 4 out of 5 ordered child meals. The last one was served the latest, after all adult meals were served and approximately 15 minutes after the other children received their orders ( and already finished up their meals) all orders were placed at the same time upon arrival. The waiter didn't look too bothered about the wait or the mess up( as it clearly looked like they forgot about the last kids meal), couldn't even bothered to bring us the spoons for the kids what he said he would bring us, when he asked if we needed anything. I had a burger which was below average, would expect more from a country pub, the condiments are the horrible sachet ones. The playground is nice, the location is great, food and service not so much.

A wonderful traditional family run country pub with genuine home cooked food. We took our VW campervan and stayed in the field for the night, had drinks and dinner in the bar. Was a delight to have genuine home cooked food and not "just out of a freezer" that most pubs offer. The homemade burger was probably the best I have had in a long time, in a nice bap that didn't fall apart. Husband had fish and chips which was fresh and tasty. For desert we opted for the homemade treacle tart and custard which was fabulous. Very reasonably priced. We booked a table for dinner and pleased that we did because inside was quite busy. Family atmosphere and busy with locals during lunch and dinner service. The field that we camped in was spacious, free, access to outside toilet 24 hours. Nice location just aside the Basingstoke Canal which is a short walk away from Odiham Castle. We were served by a charming your man called Zak who interacted with all the customers well. Would definitely visit again soon.

I absolutely adore this pub. The owners are just a delight, friendly and welcoming. The home made food is most excellent and there is always a special of the day. The prices of the wines and beers are very reasonable (by the standards of other pubs in the area). This is a proper country pub; not fiddled about with like so many other watering holes. Merchant bankers may prefer the Bel and Dragons of Surrey and Hampshire but if, like me and my friends, you prefer a proper country boozer this is for you!

Good food, nice people. They remade the mushroom and cheese sauce without mushrooms because of allergies of someone in our party. Good pub grub, see pics, had fish and chips, also steak and chips with onion rings. Watch out for the benches in the garden. We saw a group sit down and lose two entire pints due to the bench tipping when sat on. Other benches were dodgy too. Ours was, but not as bad. No drinks lost at our table. Overall a good local pub experience. Chocalate and vanilla cheesecake with chocolate honeycomb topping was delicious (served with cream or ice cream). Odiham castle ruin is just a ten minute walk away for those more historically inclined.

I wouldn't spend my money here after being accused of being rude by the arrogant and ignorant barman. I had been waiting in a very long queue following a party of walkers. My friend asked me if I was ordering food and I said no, I just wanted a drink. The barman then started on a tirade of 'I've only got one pair of hands and a lot of people to serve and I expect manners from you!!! I wasn't even talking to him! Clearly he didn't want my money so I was happy not to give it.

If carlsberg made proper village pubs they would have made this one!!! We stopped over in our van for the night and when we walked in we had a big fat welcome from the lovely, the most welcoming, smiley lady ever and the young lad think his name was zac. They greeted us right away and made us feel very welcome in this lil pub. The menu was proper no frills pub grub and plenty of it. Everyone in the pub was welcoming we were so impressed that proper pubs like this still existed. The bar lady had been there for 40 years!!! She really knew her stuff and her mum had been there 60 years previously…. Amazing She should have been the landlady!!! Well done zac and barmaid you make that pub Def recommend and will visit again

A friend and I are regular diners at this great village pub near Odiham. We eat lunch on a Tuesday in April. The place was busy but there were a couple of spare tables. The specials on the lunch menu are usually extremely interesting. When we went there was one portion of venison liver and bacon left. After that there was a game casserole. Brilliant. The staff are beyond friendly and charming. The atmosphere is classic basic village pub with raging log fire. There is a great selection of beers and a more than adequate selection of wines by the glass. Perhaps the decor is a little basic for your merchant bankers but an absolutely delight for the rest of us!

Sunday lunch and nothing’s changed, thank God. A great welcome from Mandy and the team. Delicious lunch, although a fraction disappointed to be offered turkey in October. We were a group of ten and those who had it said it was excellent. My beef was lovely, tender and nicely rare. Fantastic potatoes and nice selection of vegetables. Ate too much. Puddings scrumptious looking, too much for me - I ordered the waffle and was defeated - would have welcomed something light and lemony. My friends loved the apple and quince crumble. I really enjoyed the atmosphere in this real neighbourhood inn, run by a lovely family. I wish I lived closer. I can’t wait to go back. Next time please put that gorgeous belly of pork on the menu and also Chris’s Mum’s treacle tart which I still remember with nostalgia.

We stayed here last night, as we needed to be at the nearby Candover clinic for an AM appointment. We arrived late in the torrential rain. We were served straight away but a lovely, helpful lad who couldn't have done enough for us. As is a condition of using the facilities for an overnight stay, we gladly ordered some food. The fish & chips are absolutely delicious, without a doubt the best bit of battered cod I've had in a long time! Sadly, we had to head off early. We were happily listening & watching the wealth of wildlife that is within the vicinity, we will be back again for a more leisurely visit so we can fully enjoy & explore the area! # I forgot to add this was our first pub stopover (we usually wild camp or book a site) & we find it via The Campervan Bible.

Always enjoyed coming to this pub in the past ,but our visit after a gap of 18 months was hugely disappointing. The menu was a set price regardless of content ,.We chose the burger ,which was tasty but arrived looking very basic and under whelming, no relish no fried onions ,any additions cost extra ,the accompanying salad was all shredded to bits with a small cherry tomatoes cut in half. Deserts were expensive ,£9 for a basic chocolate brownie . Such a shame as it used to be great value here ,we appreciate that country pubs are struggling but it's off putting to increase prices and offer less ,the prices didnt match the venue or the quality ,quantity and presentation . Other pubs we visit have also marked up the prices on their menus which we are happy to pay because its worth it ,but sorry not so here.
