The Mill House in Hart

Lovely venue, do book though as it gets very busy! Glass walls so you can still see the water wheel are a super feature. Food was really good, as was the service, will definitely be going back. Seats by the water for the summer months is what I'm looking forward to.

Excellent lunch here today. Lovely setting on the river, polite lovely staff and tasty food. Car parking can be an issue.

The atmosphere and environment were very good but the food just lacked taste. This wasn't just my opinion, all our group commented on the bland flavour.

Always great food here. It's our goto meeting point between the south coast and the Thames Valley as it's just off the M3 but is rural with lovely local walks. The pub itself is a converted mill with the old mill race underneath! Beautiful old building with lots of beams and steps and a fabulous garden with mill pond. The fish pie was amazingly good. I've never had a bad meal here although it's not cheap I'd say worth it especially as they give you vouchers towards your next one.

Very disappointed - waited to be served at the bar we were next in the queue, one barman serving, second barman stood filling up his water bottle looking at us, didn’t speak or ask us our order, we assumed he was on a break, instead he put his bottle down outback & came back out and went on to serve people who arrived after us! Then first barman finished serving his customers, ignored us and served again people who arrived after us. After deciding we are clearly invisible we left disappointed, having gone to the Mill House on good recommendations. Awful service.

We wanted to hold my parents 60th wedding anniversary at the MillHouse with a party of 16. The staff/manager were most unhelpful, uncooperative and general unpleasant. For an occasion that would have given the pub approx £800-£1000. They just were not interested in helping us. I would not recommend this pub again to anyone!!!!!

Beautiful pub in a lovely setting. Amenities are great. Food was fine, but nothing special for the price. Service was slow, cold and generally medicore. Would recommend to anyone to see the pub once, but would think twice about going back.

The Mill House are always amazing, great food and service, the Brunning & Price chain of restaurants are great but the Mill House is definitely one of the more unique and pretty ones.

I came here with a group of 10 people. The food was very nice and the staff were friendly and helpful. We didn't have to wait too long for the food to be brought out. The restaurant was clean and tidy. The toilets were also clean and tidy.

Wonderful food, we had a variety of things from the steak burger to the sea bass everything was great and very delicious. Was very happy woth the variety of drink on the menu And the deserts were fantastic, Very catering to gluten free and vegans Will definetly visiting again

Just fantastic, it’s unreal, so beautiful…And on top of everything staff is really nice and food is great…everything is a bit pricy but it’s worth it.

The Mill House is a beautiful building on a number of levels (unsurprising for an old mill house) - I particularly loved the piece of glass floor above the mill wheel where you can see a torrent of white water flow beneath you - it has a real feeling of age and former purpose about it. The food was delicious, well presented and decent-sized portions without being over-facing - I had haddock and salmon fishcakes and my husband had the shoulder of lamb. I was also delighted, as the driver for the day, at their range of non-alcoholic beverages - the Wild Life Botanicals sparkling wines are a lovely alternative to prosecco. All the staff were welcoming and efficient and provided good service, even though we were there as a party of six on a Friday lunchtime. We very much enjoyed our first visit here and will definitely return, even though it's a 40 minute drive from home.

Great place. The food is excellent and staff friendly

The steak and mushroom pie was very bland. I could not taste a hint of red wine in the gravy and it was served with an over generous portion of cabbage (to fill the oversized plate) which had the texture of grass. The pudding wasn't much better. Sticky toffee pudding swimming in a pool of toffee sauce and decorated with grated/shards of dark chocolate. Not enjoyable at all.

What a great place. We had booked in advance as we were a group of 6 and had heard the place was popular. We were promptly greeted and escorted to our seats in a small nook area of the multi tiered restaurant area. The waitress was friendly helpful and knowledgeable on the menu. All needs were catered too in an unflustered way. The food arrived piping hot and excellently presented. I am no chef but I know a good steak and ale pie when I taste one!! All feedback from the rest of the party was very positive and all meals were consumed eagerly with little or none left uneaten. The portion size was perfect. Very impressed with this location and thoroughly recommend it to anyone. Make sure you book and take into consideration that hidden gems like this will be popular!!

We had a great visit to this pub, we've driven past a few times and thought it would be nice to call in. Great old pub with very good food. Will call in again when in the area. The outside area looks great even mid winter.

We only stopped for a coffee on Christmas Eve. Sat at the bar and enjoyed the atmosphere and interaction with the staff. A truly beautiful pub in a glorious setting. Lots of little rooms and corners to relax in. Next time, food as well as drink.

* dog friendly * I've cycled past this hundreds of times and never registered it before. Wow! What a beautiful pub. Two floors, vaulted ceiling, fireplaces, lovingly restored building. Set on a lovely little pond the Mill House sits on top of a water wheel which you can see from inside the pub. In the summer I bet this place is stunning. Enough about that, the atmosphere, food, service excellent. We had the camembert to start, lamb and pie for mains and banana waffle to finish. Plenty of parking and impressively the menu boasts 6 low alcohol beers and ciders. We've already booked another visit. Might be back again for the dog walk (3rd Saturday). Just off Hook J5 on the M3. Book ahead.

What an amazing place. The staff and atmosphere is outstanding. The food is incredible and caterers for varying dietary needs. The best gluten free fish and chips we had in a long time. Would definitely recommend and will return.

Home away from home. Good food, great atmosphere. Water from the creek literally runs through the restaurant with a mill. Great for families, date night, a quick beer, or a festive dinner.

A decent vegan Christmas dinner. Food was a little cold when it hit the table, but given we were a large table, I totally understand why.

The service was very good (considering it was really busy we got our food promptly), the food was incredible and the pub is so beautiful. This was the best nut roast I've ever had, the deserts were incredible and the Christmas cocktails were so festive. We did 3 different pub Christmas meals around the area, and this one stood out and was actually cheaper. We also got vouchers to use in the new year!

On a busy pre-Christmas night, we had excellent service and food, which are under your control, but also the ambience was great. Very good Christmas menu. It all looked beautifully festive. All our group of 9 really enjoyed the whole evening. Wee done!

Beautiful old building and gorgeous surrounding lake and mill 🤩🥰

This is a great place to eat out, couple friends, family and everyone. I really recommend eating outside in the summer, paticularly with children! My three year old grandson loves to sit on the old tractor.

We visited Mill House, a charming pub-restaurant, with a friend. The elegant ambiance, complete with views of the mill inside, created a unique atmosphere. The French waiter was incredibly pleasant, adding a warm touch to our lunch. The food was good and enjoyable.

Came by as a party of 11 on a Sunday for my mums birthday. I booked well in advance and checked over a few things in advance also, which the team were more than accommodating about! We were warmly welcomed into the gorgeous restaurant. It had a great atmosphere, with lovely beams, paintings on the walls, and plenty of christmas trees out for the festive season! We were attended to promptly for both drinks and food, which all came out in good time. All the food was absolutely wonderful, as always for other Brunning and Price chains I have attended. Everything was piping hot and cooked perfectly - especially the chunky chips! It really is incredible how everything came out so hot for such a big table all in such quick succession - a very high and professional restaurant standard. I would most definitely recommend The Mill House and look forward to coming by again in the future - perhaps in the summer to sit outside and appreciate the beauty of the surrounding area!

beautiful pub family friendly booking advisable as they were a bit grumpy because we had not booked,plus they get very busy ,one star less because bread was not toasted with pate and only two tiny pieces and no butter every one else's lunch was fine.and prices are high .

Wow! What a find this was! A pub full of history and character. We travelled nearly an hour to visit this pub from a recommendation from a family member, and we were not disappointed! From the mill running through the pub, to the amazing decor, I’d highly recommend this to anyone! Service was 10/10 and the same can be said for the food, keep up the great work!

Excellent pub with a warm a welcoming atmosphere

We had a lovely meal here at the weekend, with it being a beautiful setting and pub/restaurant. The experience we had though was although awful, being new parents we arrived with the pram to a set of stairs with no other direction/guidance on how to enter the building should you have a pram, wheelchair or mobility difficulties. After asking a member of staff if this was the entrance and being told yes, we then proceeded to carry the pram up the stairs (with baby in my husbands arms) with us clearly struggling two members of staff walked past and neither offered assistance or an alternative route in, it was also pouring down. Okay we thought, we then get in the building and try to catch the attention of staff to be shown to our pre booked table, multiple staff walked past us and none acknowledged us, even though we were clearly waiting. Finally after my husband had to go out of his way, we grabbed a member of staff going on her break. We were then told we were seated down stairs and had to go back out of the building (down the stairs) and through a back door (fire exit) and then down more stairs to our table- again with no help and baby still in our arms. This experience was quite unpleasant for us and because of this we won’t be visiting again nor will we recommend it. I also wouldn’t recommend to anyone with prams, wheelchairs or mobility difficulties, which is such a shame.

This was the second time we have travelled to come here having really enjoyed it the first time. Unfortunately my slow cooked braised lamb was red and pink in the middle. I asked for it to be cooked further but the response back was it’s cooked through etc!!!! Sadly just like a steak it’s personal choice if you want it rare, medium or well done. I cook a lot at home including braised lamb and it’s tasty and not red or pink. I was offered a different meal but I chose to eat only the meat I thought was cooked to my liking. Such a shame that the chef thinks it’s his way or not at all !!!! Won’t be rushing back

Came here as a half way point between us and our friends. None of us had been before. Was a very busy day on a bank holiday weekend but despite that, we found the service to be great and the food too. Really liked how they had put out an additional bar and kitchen in the garden, which was fantastic and avoiding long queues. Food was great and prices were completely in line with other venues in the area. Place appeared to be very well maintained and had beautiful grounds. We spent most of our time outdoors but inside was very cozy looking and would be great for winter. I especially loved the windows looking over the old Mill Race that runs through the building. Dogs were very much welcome with staff members fussing over them and water bowls being provided in several locations. The only negative is that this venue has quite a small car considering how many people it can seat. It is in a small village with no nearby public parking, so it is not like many people are able to walk in to visit. Hopefully this can be improved on one day. Would definitely go again.

No.1 pub in the area just ticks every box for what a pub should be! Last time I was here the service wasnt as good as it has been and the burger was a bit over done.

Being coeliac I love the choice of gluten free food. The staff are always cheerful, courteous and professional and the interior is full of character and very comfortable. All this lends itself to a delightful dining experience.

We visit you every year on our way from our annual holiday in Dorset. This time we visited with my parents who we had given a voucher for Christmas.I have never seen The Mill so busy, absolutely packed in fact, but the service we received was second to none and we all enjoyed the meal, and the visit in general. If we lived nearer we would visit more often.Your staff are all so friendly and engaging. We love The Mill and are so pleased we stumbled across you several years ago.

The building & setting is 5 star. Beautiful place. Would like to go there on a summer's warm evening & sit by the river. A must visit for the building. Mon veg meals were good, but not the vegetarian food,which was less than mediocre. The soup was good.
