Celebrated my parents 50th anniversary here. 17 people and the food and service was amazing. Our waiter Charlie was fantastic the whole evening. Highly recommend.

Visited today for a birthday family lunch, this was booked well in advance in the main dining area by my mother, on arrival there was some confusion and the manager in charge insisted my mother had made a mistake and either not booked correctly or phoned the wrong pub! Denial of any prior booking was claimed. We're were "fitted into the mead" part of the pub! Where were were only allowed the carvery option of the menue! Not what had been intended! Part of our party had arrived after this event, and when enquiring as to where we where, they were told the system showed the booking had been cancelled ( hang on, only just a few moments s ago we were told there was no booking and it was a mistake made by my mother) The other part of our party only found us when I text to say where we were, the restaurant staff where turning her away! Shortly after they had joined us, the manager appeared and apologised, he recognised a mistake but it wasn't due to them but a blip on the system which isn't anything to do with them, any compensation for the inconvenience was snubbed!! Following on the carvery that we didn't particularly want in the first place was cold, the parsnips undercooked and inedible, and when it came to pudding a simple pavlova took so long to come out every one else in the table had finished Thier pudding long before it appeared. Very disappointed in the whole experience, especially as the first port of call was to quite forcefully blame my mother, which I believe is called gaslighting !! when it turns out they were just trying to cover up a mistake, I would have more respect if they haven't been so underhand in that respect, shame!!¡

We had nicky as our waitress for dinner last night. We were celebrating my grandads birthday, and she made it so special, the entire evening was amazing, the food was delicious. She let me have a soup for my main not being too hungry, and it was delicious. Thank you so much, we will definitely be returning

Such a disappointment. We waited 45 minutes to have our drinks order taken. Our wine was then just put on the table, no tasting offered and not poured. Our food was cold! Our starters were taken away and microwaved. The waitress then brought our main courses to the table while we were still eating our starters, which is not right at all. The mains were then sadly cold too and had to be taken away and microwaved. The food was not great. We had to then wait half an hour for the desert menus. One of us got up and asked the manager for menus in the end, which she finally brought over. The deserts finally came but were not great. We had to get up and go to the bar to order a second bottle of wine and we’re not even asked if we’d like tea or coffee. The waiting staff acknowledged the food and service were not good and gave us a discount, however, our evening was sadly ruined. I’ve been before and the food and service has always been great so not sure what happened this week. I have emailed but have not received a response assuring me this won’t happen again.

Turned up and table wasn’t ready. Waiters didn’t check on us, our plates didn’t get cleared for about 40 mins and we had to ask for desert menu. Weren’t offered even another drink. Looked over and saw 4 waiters looking at the tills not doing anything ?

Last night I threw a surprise birthday for my wife. Natalie, Megan and Darren were brilliant. Service was great. Organised, BBQ food was tasty and made sure we were properly catered for with all dietary requirements. Atmosphere was great, music and photos were amazing and the decor in the mead hall looked on point. Everyone had such a great time. Really recommend.

Have been here a few times and the food never disappoints and all served with a smile. Will definitely return.

Each time I visit, the service is more abysmal. You have to chase staff around the restaurant to put in food/drink orders. We were sat in the middle of the dining area, next to a large family, who basically stood over us for most of our meal. Overall, not the best experience

Nice welcoming pub and restaurant. Staff helpful and efficient. Got served in good time. Really tasty vegetables and sauces. Pigs in blankets and stuffing epic. Turkey good but beef lacking in taste, strange cut. Desserts ok, Would go again .

Lovely food and great service, we were seated next to a few groups who at points were loud but overall it was nice. I would 100% recommend the Salmon in Mustard and Caper sauce.

Had the fish and chips, was very average, restaurant area crowded and dogs aren’t allowed in despite being opposite a Great Lake and dog walking area. Bar area is small, often full of people attending a function so expect a party atmosphere on and around the weekends.

Pre Christmas visit, the place was packed, food was excellent, great atmosphere and superb table service, the lady had excellent customer skills and also all the other guys who served us.

Fab restaurant, beautiful location, amazing food. I had the vegan Mushroom Wellington with vegetables, my husband had steak, all cooked to perfection. Nicky looked after us amazingly well, she told me André was the Senior Sous Chef who had cooked the meals today & I asked her to tell him how talented he is & how much we enjoyed our lunch. Will definitely visit again.

Having been a regular customer of the crown and cushion , it’s was very disappointing tonight with the service we received tonight . Over 3 hours for just a main course was madness ,

We ended up visiting twice in a week to meet family as this was a central point to meet. We hadn't visited before and we were pleasantly surprised with the whole experience. The atmosphere was very friendly, the food was pretty good but what made us make the decision to go back so soon was the service. Our waitress Nikki(?) made us feel so welcome and looked after us so well. Its not often you make a concious decision to go to a certain restaurant because of hte service but we did and she was once again looking after us. Great job Nikki and we hope your efforts do not go unrecognised.

Booked a table for 9 for my Autistic daughters 18th birthday this evening. Excellent service, food was amazing 10/10. Will definitely go again!

We visited the Crown and Cushion (3rd January) which we do frequently, however it was not great compared to other visits. The service was very sporadic and inconsistent. Our starters arrived piecemeal, by the time the final starter arrived, those that had their starters first had nearly finished, We asked for our main meals to be served altogether once they were ready! We had a number of servers throughout the evening predominately managers. In addition we were not asked whether any of the party had any allergies, one of the party does but savvy enough to know what they can eat. Food was good, however you could tell the Fajitas had been sat on the hotplate as they were not sizzling when they were served. In addition a number of the menu items were not available which again is a first for us to experience. Hope this is a blip, if we were to experience this level of service again we would not return.

A really friendly pub. The service & food quality was excellent. We will be back.

We booked and visited on 21/12/24 at 20:30. The waitress who greeted us was friendly and helpful. She advised there was a 30/40 minute wait on starters. This was fine with us because we were not ordering any starters. We ordered drinks which came quickly. We ordered our main meals which were a Christmas Burger and a gluten free chicken and cheeseburger. The chips on one dish were cold. We asked for these to be changed which they did. The chips on the other dish were lukewarm but not hot. We tried a few chips and they were not great and certainly not fresh. The gluten free chicken and cheeseburger also had a long dark hair in the burger bun. We informed them about this and they apologised and asked if we wanted them to replace the dishes. By this point we were both completely put off and left. We’ve eaten here a couple of times over the years and generally it’s been ok but never excellent. Based on other reviews recently it appears it going down hill which is a shame because it could be so much better. It’s not a cheap menu either so the standards should be so much better.

We’ve been here before for Sunday lunch and had a far better experience. Clearly Xmas overwhelms the team and service was incredibly slow. 3 hours for a three course meal was excessive. Car park also far too small for the venue and with no alternative parking nearby, it’s a real issue.

We had lunch twice at the Crown and Cushion during December, once as a quartet and the other as a couple. On the first occasion the restaurant was heaving including with groups enjoying their work Christmas lunches. The second occasion was busy but not so hectic. Both times we had a great time - the food was really good, and the service was excellent. The menu is varied and there is a very good selection of drinks. My partner has mobility issues and the staff were very accommodating in getting us convenient seating. We eat out fairly regularly and the staff at this establishment are amongst the best - very friendly, helpful and efficient. I would highly recommend this pub restaurant.

Group of 6, only those that had the Fajitas were fine. Satay skewers were horrible over cooked, fish was totally lacking in flavour n chips were soggy. We won't be going back

Decided to try as it was a dog friendly pub. Booked an out site pod as inside was booked up but turned surprisingly nice. Shame food took a long time to arrive. Thought the food was average, a bit overpriced for what we got Portions a bit small. Thought the kids meals were a bit pricey for what they got. Also think they pub had a drainage problem as outside a bit smelly.

Two parts: 9th and 10th December 2024 I am lucky enough to manage a retirement lodge and as such, had two Christmas lunches at The Crown & Cushion on the 9th December and the Meade Hall on the 10th. The lunch on the 9th was FANTASTIC, stellar service from all the staff for which nothing was a problem and were so helpful - big shout out to the lovely chap who sorted out individual payments at the end of the meal - great food. Everyone had a wonderful time. 10th December - not as great sadly, although the food was again lovely the portion sizing was completely different to the day before which was odd, smaller portion of ribs and a huge portion of the roast turkey dinner, the wait time for some people in our party was ridiculous (over ten mins for some starters and about the same for some desserts), one of the guests had Christmas pudding which can best be described as a sliver! Four of the guests ordered an Irish coffee only to be told the restaurant “didnt have the right cream” and that they would bring what they had over, that took about ten mins by which time the coffees were tepid. Two guests had tea with no milk and again had to wait, and again their drinks were tepid by the time the milk arrived. A few of the guests were put off by (who we assumed was) the manager’s rather unhelpful and curt attitude, and no one appreciated being squeezed into the corner by the toilets - 15 people in total, it was quite tight. I would give the Crown & Cushion 5 stars but the Meade Hall only 3, so an average of 4 overall.

Another fabulous experience at The Crown and Cushion! We had our meal on a Friday night, the atmosphere was lively. Our food was tasty as usual and red wine perfect. We had a lovely waitress, Becky. She was welcoming, attentive and went the extra mile to ask the kitchen for affogato despite it not being on the menu. Thank you!

Came today 22nd November our server was called Steven he was extremely professional and very cheerful. Was a lovely experience all round thank you crown and cushion we will be back

Lovely Saturday Afternoon three course lunch. A warm & comforting feel to the restaurant. It was a full house but the staff were very attentive, Lovely food, drinks & dessert. Finished off with a coffee. Would definitely recommend and would come again

Food was warm, the chicken was very dry it had been left on a hotplate the chips were so crispy they had no potato inside and the well I think it was coleslaw had no colour.

Lovely restaurant on the middle of the woods to go for a walk and end there for lunch. Good food but very crowded as it was Saturday, waiters did their best.

Excitement for a large family meal was dulled by slow service, missing items ordered, rearranging tables around us while closing and getting the bill wrong. Disappointing as the food was good and better was too be expected for the prices charged and venue

Lovely pub. No dogs indoors though, which seems a bit mad as it’s right next to the massive dog-walking area of Hawley Lake. Loses a star as a result

A wonderful occasion to celebrate a 50th Birthday with a large family, which included 4 grandchildren.

Food was OK. Unfortunately, we'd booked a heated pod but when we arrived we were told that we couldn't have it. But that someone else who hadn't yet arrived was going to be given it instead. Then another pod became free and we were told that we couldn't have that one either as it was already booked. I asked why our booking was less important. They said it just was. So I informed them we were taking that table, and we sat down. Incidentally we had a vulnerable old great grandfather with us, so had to have the heater, hence the booking. This really did reflect badly on customer service. Ill considered service, if politely done. It did put a downer on the atmosphere.

Place is lovely,staff good but food could be improved in my opinion,the ribs were dry. I also do not like a 10% service charge added to the bill. Yes, it is discretionary, but in my opinion, it should not be added to the bill, so I have to ask for it to be removed.

Great place for special occasions, as it was for us.

I'd been with my partner a couple times before; July '21 for dinner and Feb '23 for a roast which had both been very enjoyable, both with atmosphere and food and so chose it as the restaurant for my birthday meal with family this year. Now, I'm not sure if it's changed hands in that time but unfortunately, we were really disappointed this time round. The veg was hard, totally under-cooked and the Yorkshire puddings were rock hard and chewy, seemingly microwaved rather than fresh. This means we will definitely NOT be returning for a roast, but also consider eating elsewhere generally.

We visited for Sunday lunch and sat in Meade Hall. (2 adults and 2 kids). Me and my two kids had to sit and wait for 20 minutes in the restaurant, as the car park was so rammed my husband had to wait in the car for people to leave. Fortunately I’d come armed with colouring and one of the conscientious waitresses offered the kids some bread to tide them over. Not the best start and for this reason, we wouldn’t come back on a Sunday. Apart from the hiccup at the start, we had a nice time. We ate the carvery which was delicious and portion sizes were huge. One of the kids ate off the kids menu which was equally as nice and a great portion size. The atmosphere was really lovely. It’s a fantastic space and very cozy, especially with the fire on in the background.

Visited here with a friend and my daughter. We chose the Crown and Cushion because it is part of the Barons chain who we have used on several occasions. My daughter is a diagnosed Celiac and eating out can be difficult. We know from experience that Barons are fully trustworthy in enabling my daughter to enjoy an evening out, eating as a "normal" person safe in the knowledge that everything is going done to keep her safe. I am happy to report that, once again, we were not disappointed. Thank you Crown and Cushion.

We booked Meade Hall for our Wedding on Thursday 19th September and the whole process from start to finish was incredibly smooth and we honestly could never have imagined our day just being as perfect as it could possibly have been but Megan and Natalie literally went above and beyond! Nothing was ever too much trouble and the service/food and venue was complete utter perfection. I honestly cannot say a single bad word about either of these lovely intentive & kind ladies. Everyone complimented the venue, Darren the DJ (Awesome) the food/drinks as everything truly was of high quality!! We feel we got so much more for our money celebrating at Meade Hall compared to a Boutique Hotel. Honestly we cannot thank you all enough and cannot wait to return year after year for our Anniversary. All of our love Mr & Mrs Russell :)

Was very disappointed with the latest visit to the Crown & Cushion. Server rushed us to order drinks before we had even taken our coats off and asked us if we wanted to order food before half the party had even arrived. When we finally did order our drinks, they took ages to arrive, drinks were missed and then the replacements took even longer to arrive - this was a reoccurring theme throughout the evening constantly having to leave the table to get a server to ask where our drinks that we had ordered were. The food arrived and it was underwhelming, the salads contained unwashed leaves so they were all gritty and unpleasant, disappointing soggy leaves with minimal dressing. My friend ordered a steak and again, had to chase to just get a steak knife. The 12.5% service charge added automatically to the bill was a surprise, considering we didn't actually have that much service either. Overall a very disappointing experience and will not be back in a hurry.

An excellent Sunday lunch can be had here with plenty of staff to attend to the table. It is advisable to book a table as it looks as though its a popular eatery.

Go here almost every time we want to go and eat out at a restaurant great place.

I chose Meade Hall for our wedding as it was local to us and we’d actually been to a function there before. Natalie has been absolutely fantastic throughout the whole process, made everything a breeze and I couldn’t have asked for a kinder and more welcoming events manager. On the day the I had the pleasure of Polly, who helped run the day and made sure everything went smoothly. She was so incredible and the venue looked perfect, even better than I had ever envisioned. Staff working our wedding were polite, friendly and professional. The food was on time and delicious! My little boy gave it double thumbs up (the gold standard). I would like to offer personal thank yous to everyone who helped make our wedding so special. Resident DJ Darren was amazing and had us on the dance floor all night. Highly recommend this venue for any celebration, 10/10!!! Love Lucy and Ryan

Nice restaurant, lunch menu was small but what I had was lovely. Was busy and loud, thanks to a rowdy 20 people table but our server was a lively lady and all was as we ordered. Also wasn't rushed to leave at all.

There were around 30 cars in the car park. Plenty of seating inside and out. We were ignored on our way in and managed to catch the attention of someone to be seated with menus. We were left 20 minutes unattended. Each time we glanced at someone and tried to flag them down they looked through us. Eventually, we had to get up and get someone to place our order. An apology was received for the lack of attention. Our table was cleaned as it was dirty. After that, there was a short delay and another apology. The food was served with a smile and we enjoyed it. Further delays followed. The bill was incorrect and listed an item we did not order. At that point the waiter removed the service charge which was appropriate and appreciated given the lapse in service. They could do with a separate non-smoking seating area outdoors as some cigarettes have an awful smell! Somewhere we have driven past for 10 years and wanted to try. Based on the experience, we will be unlikely to return.

Good food, although the selection is a bit same old. Nice polite staff. The pub area lacks atmosphere and is a bit noisy with the wooden floor.

We attended a wedding reception here a couple of weeks back, and ended up with a dicky stomach. Also went in the pub today and had the moodiest bar staff ever!

We love the Crown and Cushion. The food is generally very good, especially the ribs. The staff are friendly too. Tonight however was a disaster. We arrived at 17.45 and the restaurant was quiet. Initially the service was good. As time went by, the service became almost non existant. After our main meal was delivered, it seemed we had been totally forgotten. I had to go to the till to request further service just to clear the table. When the table was finally cleared we were given a promise that the desert menu would be with us straight away. It wasn't! I even had to go back to the till to request the bill. No excuse, but the restaurant became very busy whilst we were there. A dissapointing meal.

We had our wedding at the Meade Hall in August 2024 and it was perfect! Natalie was our main contact and was very helpful and understanding throughout the process and we were lucky to have Polly as our wedding coordinator because she is such a lovely person, managed the day very well and decorated the venue so beautifully which really exceeded our expectations!

Our server Jacky (permission given to name her) was excellent. Service was timely on a very busy evening. Food was freshly cooked and very tasty. I had a free bottle of prosecco as it was my birthday. A very pleasant evening and good value.

Lovely out of the way pub and restaurant. Has huge function room available for hire if you need. Food was really good but don't sit outside by the entrance drive as there are smelly drains! Inside and outside at the back are great. Lots of parking.

We had dinner last night having not visited for more than 2 years and it didn’t disappoint From the moment we arrived were seated in our outside hut 3 waitresses came over greeted us introduced themselves Then our waitress Nicky came over took our order and couldn’t of been nicer, so refreshing when often service these days is questionable she continued to look after us all evening until we left..so lovely a credit to the place Our food was equally wonderful Thank you we shall definitely not leave it so long until we return next Btw the ribs are still the best we’ve ever eaten highly recommend

Nice enough place to spend an afternoon/ evening for a wedding but the food was absolutely god awful. The worst wedding food I've ever had by some margin. Bland, undercooked, uninspired, and miserable.

Outside seating here is ideal, heated pods that let you sit outside but stay warm. Food is excellent as is the service. Reasonable prices as well. This is my favorite go to pub for eating.

Always enjoy coming here. Food, service and atmosphere is all great.

Lovely restaurant, friendly professional staff, somewhat lackluster unoriginal menu. Adequate.

Having driven past on many occasions and always seen a busy car park I thought it must be worth a try - especially as an early lunch on a Saturday we’d beat the rush. It’s an interesting building with a quirky decor and with an army of staff evident you’d be hoping for something special. Sadly not. On the food front I’d consider my order to be the blandest burger I’ve ever had the misfortune to order: “Ultimate burger” suggests something special but 3 flavourless patties with greasy, soggy bacon and a congealed lump of bland, melted cheese in what felt more like a stale (possibly a low temperature attempt at toasting) burger bun all heavily reliant on the served sauce to give it flavour. The absence of “skin on chips” for generic frozen fries the final insult alongside a beer whose taste suggested the pipes haven’t been cleaned for some notable timeframe. I thought I was just unlucky but my kids, having opted for other burgers from the main menu, asked halfway through theirs “can we go elsewhere please” - a first from them! Service was fair but frustrating: whilst a lot of staff members are evident those serving indoors equated to 2 staff members sat in a booth death-scrolling whilst another two were clearly run off their feet. Result being having to constantly remind staff for items we’d ordered. When it came to paying I was tempted to make an offer toward the cost, reflective of the quality and experience, but it took so long to get the bill I just wanted to leave. Overall, just wish I’d gone somewhere else.

Party of 3. 2 x bubble and squeak, one chicken ceasar salad. Service was great, bubble and squeak was good, sadly the chicken in the caesarea salad was over cooked and inedible.

I go to this pub regularly as its lovely and great food. we arrived at 7pm my friend and both our teenage sons. drink and food orders were taken quickly and we got starters and our drinks quickly. However after our starters were taken away we had over an hours wait for our main meal. During this time nobody came to check on us, we tried to get somebody over to order more drinks but nobody came so in the end i went to the bar myself. it was only when i said to the barmaid could she put the drinks on our table she asked if we were already seated and i replied yes but nobody had bothered to check on us so id ordered myself that i noticed the manager go and have a quiet word with the staff that we then had service and had it explained our food wouldn't be much longer. mains were fine although my sons steak was incredibly fatty and half had to be left as it was inedible ( i checked it as i was angry he'd not eaten a £26 steak and he explained why and he was correct) and then another really long wait for pudding. 3 1/2 hours we were there in the end most of which was spent waiting for food or drinks. i wouldn't say the restaurant was excessively busy being a Tuesday evening and no apology for the long waits at the end so we will be avoiding this pub for a while sadly in the hope the service improves.

Great place to sit outside and enjoy a tasty meal with a glass of wine. Service was a little slow but the staff were great even though rushed off their feet. From the car park it's a little deceiving, as it looks so small on the outside but is a Tardis inside, with plenty of outdoor seating around the back. A bit pricey too though we don't usually have a pudding but after watching them being delivered to others, couldn't resist! Worth it!☺️

The CC was busy , the staff were pleasant and the atmosphere was good however the food was not up to standard. Not just mine but my sister and my husbands. If you are serving prawn cocktail then make a decent one. Shred the lettuce, add more prawns and sauce. The same with the chicken Caesar salad . Large lettuce leaves, chicken that was so tough it was hard to cut , no parmesan shavings and a small portion of sauce. I had possibly the worst salt and pepper squid and my scampi and chips were dire. Also hot plates should not be handed to diners even with the warning that the plates were hot. We won't hurry back sadly

First time…Sunday lunch… nearly cancelled having read recent reviews….but pleasantly surprised. Nice table in the garden in the shade on a hot day. Plenty of room and our doggie made very welcome. Quick efficient service - lovely rhubarb gin cocktails. Sunday roast was a bit under par - tasteless boiled veg and very over cooked beef ( but edible ) not enough snips or potatoes, gravy a bit weak. Cauli Cheese was nice. Deserts were yummy esp the home made apple crumble. Perhaps the desert chef should also oversee the mains..? Environment / Service / Drinks and Desserts 10/10. Main course 5/10.

Had dinner on Friday. Squashed into corner table, almost as an afterthought. White wine never been near a fridge/chiller. French beans not cooked. Not sure make of peas but not very nice. Need to get drains sorted, awful overpowering stench when leaving.

Just stopped for a drink. The food smelled amazing though, shame I was already full!
