Came to Heron on the Lake for some drinks and the vibe is great here. Oscar the General Manager is a lovely person and the staff were incredibly friendly too. Was at the Jetty part then shifted to the smoking area then when the temperature dropped went inside for some food Foodwise ordered the 6oz Burger 🍔 & Chips 🍟 and was equally just as good as experience. The food warm and delicious. Would return here again very soon!

We had a lovely family birthday celebration meal here last night for my daughter's 30th. 14 of us sat at a table with lake view which was perfect. The service was fantastic from start to finish - nothing was too much trouble and we were greeted with a very warm friendly welcome and this continued through the evening. My family thoroughly enjoyed the evening, all the food was delicious. Very prompt, kind and patient table service throughout. The staff accommodated me bringing in a birthday cake and presented it perfectly to my daughter singing Happy Birthday with us. Perfect end to a lovely memorable evening. Thank you so much to all The Heron on The Lake Team we cannot thank you enough and will definitely be back for another visit soon 🙂

The main feature of this pub is the views and surroundings next to the pond/lake. We had a business lunch and sat indoors with a view of the pond. The staff were attentive and friendly. Food was great. There's also plenty of parking which is a bonus.

We had a wonderful experience at Heron on the Lake. The food was absolutely delicious, with a great variety of options that were all beautifully presented and full of flavor. The service was fantastic—friendly, attentive, and made us feel very welcome from the moment we arrived. What really sets this place apart is the stunning view over the lake. We have been coming to the Heron for years and always had a negative reason not to return. We came for a Sunday roast today to give it one more chance and we were blown away. Oscar and team have saved the little jewel in the crown of fleet. The food was unreal extremely well seasoned good cuts of meat, the extra touches with the veg and the gravy and jus blew us away. We will be returning regularly and are so happy to have this on our doorstep now.

Poor value and quality We have been number of times in the past but were extremely disappointed on this occasion. One of our party ordered the prawn and cod fishcake – we were astounded when it was served to see one small fishcake with some wilted vegetables for £15.50. To make things even worse it contained hardly any cod, 3 very small prawns and the bule was mashed potato. We all commented it was no more than a starter and a Sainsbury’s fishcake would have had more fish content and tasted better. When our concerns were presented to the manager, to her credit she fully understood our concerns, was very embarrassed and so discounted the bill. This is not what we wanted, we came out for a relaxed and enjoyable meal and not a discount – it really spoilt the lunch! Hopefully on receiving this damaging review the owners will reflect and improve this dish.

We went at lunchtime and the whole experience was delightful. I am gluten intolerant and the menu is varied, the food cooked beautifully and was delicious. All while watching a heron catch a fish and a family of mum, dad and baby swans out for a swim

What a lovely place! Myself and a party of 5 others attended a birthday meal today, and we all thoroughly enjoyed it! The servers were kind, friendly, and attentive. We were seated straight away (pre booked, which is reccomend). We had a gorgeous view of the lake which is stunning. The food was the highlight. We ordered the steak, which was just amazing. Others ordered cod and chips which was also good. Overall, lovely experience, with the staff and food being the highlight. Although the prices are quite high, the quality of the food and the views were in line with this 🙂

Great place to eat and perfect location

Love this place, probably do not use it enough, always worried it will be too busy. Great food, nice to sit on the jetty with a cold beer and watch the world go by, great staff, always accommodating and really good food. If you like in Fleet or Farnborough make this a lunch or evening meal destination to catch up.

Went tonight for the first time. Lovely pub/restaurant. Feels very cosy inside and has this lovely view over the lake outside. But the best is the staff. Very friendly welcome then the waiting staff were friendly and attentive without being over the top. Had the mushrooms scallops and the steak frite. All was cooked beautifully. Really enjoyed it. Thank you to all that work there.

Nice boozer with a nice garden view

This place is wonderful if you fancy a nice drink in the sun whilst sitting near the water! Myself and my partner went for a nice afternoon walk in the sun by fleet pond then finished off with a quick drink and snack. Its very clean, tidy and well presented with a good variety of drinks and food! Plus the fresh raspberry in the cider was a really nice touch 👌🏻

We had a lovely time here for my mother in laws birthday. Mya did a wonderful job in ensuring all was taken care of and we enjoyed our evening ✨😊

Heron on the lake is a wonderful relaxing delicious experience. Staff are friendly, and helpful, can definately recommend as it is a great eat out for visiting with friends and family, no matter what the weather is like.

Lovely pub with a fantastic setting on the water. The biggest and best fish and chips. The staff were fanatic as well and they’re dog friendly with treats at the ready.

We came for an early dinner on bank holiday Monday and thankfully they could fit us in without a booking as it was reasonably quiet. The staff were all really friendly and helpful. We all had burgers and they were the best burgers we’ve had in a long time. We can definitely add “The Heron” to our list of trusted places to get a good meal locally.

We’d booked a week before for sons birthday.we were so very disappointed ☹️ the balloon wasn’t on the table.the table was directly in front of the bar.We felt that the table was just put there.the service was very slow,and not very friendly.the food was not good I had prawn starter and fish cake.and son had steak and chips (very underwhelming)we all came out hungry.not worth making a reservation.we sat for 20 mins just watching people coming in and getting seated immediately.

It was a bad experience.son’s birthday felt like table was an add on .felt like I could of pulled a pint it was so close to the bar.no balloon put on table.( it was an afterthought).from waiter. It felt like they just wanted a fast turnover.we all left hungry.no point in booking we were waiting for quite a time.I’d booked a week ago.spent over 100 I can’t see us returning.

I was left disappointed by my visit to Heron on the Lake. After having two other very positive experiences visiting during colder months, my boyfriend and I decided to go there to eat outside. Our portions seemed smaller with prices still the same, wait staff seemed untrained and disorganized. My boyfriend ordered a steak and it took about 10 minutes for them to bring him a knife to cut it with after it arrived. I had fish and chips and after it was delivered, it took another 5 minutes to receive tartar sauce and they never could find any vinegar for me. This place had become our go to “date spot” but after this visit we were left reconsidering if we would even come back again in the future. UPDATE April 2025: After coming back to Heron on the Lake 3 times since my initial review, I will say the quality of food and service has definitely gone back to the standard we would expect and I feel my review should reflect that. We were there a few nights ago with family and it may be the best meal I have had at Heron on the Lake since we started going there years ago.

Having eaten at more than my fair share of pubs for a good pub lunch, I can finally say I've found the perfect place for it. With amazingly friendly and fast service, the single best beef burger I've ever had and a lovely view of the lake to enjoy, nowhere else comes close. 5/5 Would devour another meal again

Waitress polite and attentive. Ordered chicken milanese, no dressing provided and chips not fresh. Ordered coffee with mini dessert, mini pud arrived minus coffees! All a little careless - perhaps better comms between kitchen and waiting staff.

Well-appointed venue. Been a few times. Great service and value-for-money menu. Gabi served us, very professional and attentive.

Lovely place for food especially in the summer!

So quick late lunch with the old man. He had the pulled ham on hock with pea salad, burger for me. The Ham Hock arrived and looked pretty. But no Gammon visible…Tasted fresh but BOY where was the Gammon - we reckon they was a tablespoon of chopped gammon mixed in with a mayonnaise type dressing. Shocking. Burger was ok apart from the £2 slice of bacon extra which was the wrong type ( US back bacon) was undercooked and therefore fatty and not nice. - should be well done SM streaky fyi. Also the tiny cup of chips was half ‘full’ so they was about 6. They were nice though. Desserts were overpriced at £9 and were very underwhelming. Service was ok. It’s such a shame , it’s a nice environment especially in a sunny day, good service, good drinks service but the food (again) is a let down. I mean to advertise a dish as pulled gammon hock salad and the deliver 5g of diced gammon in a plate of leaves is poor - I think it was £18 or £19! And 6 chips???? Not sure I’ll be rushing back. Shame.

Gorgeous sunny location, wonderful service. My sister and I were lucky enough have Mya waiting on our table two days in a row (we returned with our mum the next day) and it really was standout, friendly, knowledgable, efficient service - a true credit to the Heron! We’d come from the Kingfisher where they didn’t really know what they were doing re coeliac, and here, the Heron really knew their stuff and how to deal with such a serious autoimmune disease regarding gluten! Food was super tasty and we are glad we went with the Heron. What a gem in Fleet!

Lovely setting, plenty of parking, and near Fleet Pond if you want a walk before or after. The first was pretty bad however. We had shareable bread with beef dripping & whipped butter. The bread was nice but the goo on the side was unpleasant. As a main, I had a hot salad with chicken as an extra. The hot salad was just a few leaves with some pearl barley and the chicken was tough as leather.

Really good food, we enjoyed the experience fully as we were lucky to get a table overlooking the water and it was a sunny winter's day

We hired the Anglers Den for 60th birthday. Chesca dealt with the booking before the day and was absolutely fabulous coordinating everything to ensure the lunch was perfect. On the day the staff were amazing particularly Martin who was kept on his toes with the 30 guests but dealt with everything with a smile. They made it feel like we were the only ones in the restaurant. Highly recommended, good food great value for money and exceptional service. Will definitely be visiting again very soon

Im not sure what has happened recently as we have regularly enjoyed this restaurant in the past but the last 2 times we have eaten there we have been very disappointed. The menu is lacking and our guest struggled to find any main that appealed and ended up having a starter. I wanted something healthy and chose the goats cheese tart with vegetables but was awful as mostly potatoes which I don’t eat. Very expensive too for basic food. Sadly not sure we will be coming back.

We were greeted as soon as we walked in by 2 friendly members of staff. Drinks order was taken within a couple of minutes and food orders shortly after. Fairly basic menu but something for most tastes. The fish and chips were very nice, good portion size. Lasagna looked amazing. All in all, not bad, £72 for 2 mains and3 rounds of drinks. It was fairly quiet so atmosphere slightly lacking. (Tuesday night).

What a lovely experience! Just had a visit to celebrate my birthday and we all had such a nice time. Our server was so inviting and as helpful as she could be nothing was too much to ask. (I didn’t manage to catch her name but she was fantastic) the manager offered me a free drink as he noticed we was celebrating and he was always happy to stop at our table to make conversation and interact with my two year old daughter. It was a nice change to see management around the restaurant as this is a rare experience in a lot of places these days. The restaurant had a very relaxed atmosphere and the food was delicious. So many great options to choose from on the menu. Perfect evening out and will definitely be returning. Heron on the lake has always been a go to restaurant for us and the recent refurbishment has given it a lovely fresh feel.

Food is good but cocktails are very weak

You know when you go to a distant or elderly relative and they have cooked for you, so you have to be polite. That was what just happened for our roast at the heron. From what I can remember from working there in the past the roast were always phenomenal and plates went out packed with all the trimmings, cracking, Yorkshire, stuffing, caulicheese and crispy potatoes. Unfortunately you now have to pay for add ons. So we did. I had the pork belly. The "crackling" or skin on top of the pork belly hadn't been removed so was just a congealed jelationous sheet. The stuffing balls were like undercooked dry dumplings, the potatoes looked albeino rather than roaster and the side of parsnips, carrots and red onion was dire - one parsnip 4 dry carrots and 2 quarters of onion for £3.50! We did say something on the check back of the lack of "extra" parsnips and the awful stuffing balls. The stuffing was taken off the bill and more microwaved parsnips were bought out. It was after the check back I found the not so cracked crackling. The roasts only saving grace was the Yorkshire pudding. If we hadn't been on a 4 mile walk we would have finished our drinks and left the food. We paid and left still peckish and disappointed. £50 for 2 soft drinks and 2 apauling roast dinners later, I can safely say we won't return. The manager was nice enough as was the server but some serious quality is lacking with the chefs. I think there needs to be a lesson in pride.

My family booked for dinner mid-week and we were looked after very well by Maya and Chris. All of us enjoyed our meal with selection from a good menu, and in a very comfortable setting. I have a few allergy needs and these were attended to brilliantly, so that I was able to eat with confidence. We will definitely be going back.

From the moment we walked into The Heron we was greeted with a smile and a pleasureable welcome by Martin the manager, myself and my family didn't make a booking we walked in on the off chance we would get a table, we greeted and seated by Martin the manager he was was incredibly informative, attentive and knowledgeable expecially when we had questions about the menu. Mya was our waitress. Mya was extremely polite, and nothing was too much of an ask. We are already arranging our next visit to the Heron we hope to see Martin and Mya again too. I have recommended The Heron to my friends and family. I would like to thank the Sunday team, especially a huge thank you to Martin and Mya yourself and Martin made our experience extra special.

This pub was selected by my wife because we discovered it had a gluten free menu alongside a normal one. This is important for her as she is gluten intolerant. So she booked 9 of us in for lunch. The pub is really nice, beside a lake with nice views. Food was very good. No long delays , hot. Tasty food too. Our waitress Alina was attentive patient with a noisy group and the service was prompt. All in all a good experience. My wife loved the separate gluten free menu bowled over with the range and selection of choice when she’s so used to getting none. Very happy

We are not one for set menus on Valentine’s Day but we booked HOTL and took the dog and what a very nice surprise! We ordered the shared charcuterie board / cote du boeuf / chocolate trio. The starter was perfectly adequate - main - the beef was excellent - well cooked , generous size and perfectly seasoned. Served with lovely sauces and perfect chips. The desert was lovely - just missing any sort of sourness to cut through ( basic error guys! ) Couple of glasses of fizz to accompany along with great service and lovely greeting from the boss. Overall great value for £75. We used to come here a lot but we dwindled away as the food and service had deteriorated so much. On this showing we might just give Sunday lunch another go very soon. 👍

I visited this very nicely decorated pub to celebrate my mum’s birthday. The Roast lamb was absolutely phenomenal, easily in my top 5 best I’ve ever had. The blood orange sorbet was a very unique menu offering, and very very good. Service was also top tier. The place was absolutely rammed with not many front of house staff working, but they handled it perfectly and provided a very high standard of service. I genuinely couldn’t fault this place if I tried 👏

It's my favourite pub & always lovely at any time of year. Highly recommend it.

Booked a party in the Anglers Den for my Mum's birthday and couldn't be happier! The friendly staff were always happy to take time out to chat to us and answer our questions / give us ideas for the event. On the day, the staff were amazingly helpful. Always popping in to see if we needed anything and happy to help set up. Everyone loved the food (we had a lovely buffet) and I would highly recommend anyone book here for their next event. Special thank you to Magdalena who was our point of call since the beginning and Miya who was looking after us on the day. Thank you!

Had a nice Sunday lunch. We were a large group and had a good position in the Den.

Service was all fine all waiters were perfect... the food and the pricing was the issue! Kids pasta in attached photo 7 pasta shell for £7 ridiculous. Order 2 roast beef £20 each both plates received 90% veg and 3 small cuts of beef as you can see in photo shocking amount of meat. Also ordered the side of "sage smoked bacon sausage meat stuffing" came out as generic packet dry stuffing balls im not sure it contained any suasage me at all. I'm in the food industry I know you have to make mark ups but this was absolute shocking £88 wasted later for bread and veg.

Delicious Sunday roast for a family get together, great service and atmosphere. Highly recommended.

Convenient meet up location coming from 3 different directions, staff really friendly and efficient, large carpark and when the sun comes out a nice deck area overlooking the lake.

Very limited menu, and when food arrived it was almosth thrown on the table - had the lasagne and it looked just like a ready meal, with 3 pieces of asparagus just laid out to look "gastro", wasn't cheap either, and no Christmas atmosphere.

Wow, such a shame you pay for meals and they arrived burnt. Other meals on our table appeared to be OK, but over priced for the quality. However, the Buttered Chicken burgers (had 3 on our order) were all WAY OVER COOKED. Shame the waiters didn’t notice only a few bites from each meal on each burger when collecting the plates. Personally will not be rushing back to pay for a burger meal which you can get from a weatherspoons much cheaper, and definitely way nicer. £16 for a small chips and a very dry chicken burger is disappointing. Not even any sauce 🤦🏻‍♂️ Nice place but “hit and miss” from my experience.

My husband and I came here in Christmas day for some drinks.....the manager allocated us a table at 12 midday and said he needed the table back in an hour which we honoured. As we vaccated our table at the said time and went onto finish our drinks at the bar the manager said that we could continue.drinking at the table as it wasn't being used.....we were very happy with this plus so pleased with fantastic customer service from beginning to end of our visit....we love this pub and travel far to get here so even more greatful for today's service....thank you Heron on the Pond for fantastic service and we'll definitely be back in the new year!!

We always have a great Sunday roast at the Heron! The staff are always pleasant and friendly as well. Today was no exception, and a special shout out to Charlie, who was very attentive. Nothing was too much trouble. He was polite and welcoming. Thanks Charlie!

We were looked after wonderfully by both Martin and Matt. They helped to make our evening special and could not have been kinder or more helpful. The food and drink were lovely and the atmosphere warm and inviting.

I met a friend at the Heron on the Lake for lunch and booked for my dog to accompany us. This was the first time I had taken my dog there since the rules have changed about it being dog friendly throughout. It was fabulous - so incredibly dog friendly and we couldn’t have been made more welcome. The staff were lovely and a particular mention should go to our waitress Mya - she was a complete delight. Food was great too! Would really recommend.

From the moment we arrived we were made to feel welcome with our dogs. Gabrielle even offered us water for the dogs and treats. Service was prompt and very polite and the food arrived quickly. My wife enjoyed the teabags. My daughter had a very good beef rib while I made short work of a delicious goat cheese tart. Overall can not fault the loverly atmosphere of the Heron on the Lake. Like to commend our server Gabrielle for a smiling, attentive service.

The heating was high and made it a little hot, other than that wonderfull place

Went with a group for festive lunch. We realised it was festive because we had a cracker. I chose the Brie tart - tasted more like a jam tart as there was no flavour of Brie. I scraped the large smothering of jam off to try to taste the Brie. Unsuccessful. The pastry was nice and crisp, sad about the Brie, which is a favourite cheese of mine. I ate half, but it seems silly to eat something that gives no pleasure, so left the rest. Most of my friends chose the bream and the beef. Both were well received.i wish I had chosen something other than turkey - we had to decide in advance, so unable to change my mind. The turkey was two thin circles of meat, soft and pretty tasteless, propped up on a few small pieces of potato, hard to tell if they were intended to be roast, there was nothing crisp there, although 3 of the little pieces were slightly browned on one corner. Two small sprigs of soggy broccoli, three blackened and even soggier sprouts, one soft white part of a parsnip and a couple of lengths of carrot, bound by a scoop of gravy. I tasted a small piece of everything and left the rest. Another in the group only had one slice of meat, complained to staff and was immediately given a replacement plate which she happily devoured. Perhaps it was freshly prepared, or perhaps she was very hungry. Most unappetising. Most unappealing. I have eaten three other Christmas meals this year. After this one, I doubt I shall ever eat another.

Had a pre Christmas meet up with family (who are not local to us.) Everything was lovely! Great atmosphere, friendly staff and delicious food.

Now *dog friendly*!!! Lovely evening at Heron on the Lake. Busy yet the service was great. The Steak and Stilton pie and Lamb Shepherds Pie was delicious and served promptly. We are visiting in December and the Christmas menu looks lush with new Christmas cocktails too. Great atmosphere.

Food is really naff here and super overpriced for what it is. Burger had one tiny lettuce leaf in it, bun was dry and chips were burnt little shards

Would like to thank the heron on the lake for making our evening relaxing and enjoyable, from the moment we got there to when we left, the food was nice and our waitress was very helpful, would recommend coming here as a really nice atmosphere too.

Beautiful setting and lots of space. The service was good but the food was underwhelming. I had hummus, which was not fresh, the fried onions smelt of rancid oil, the extra portion of chips looked pale and under cooked. Poor quality of food which does not justify the price.

Update 11/24. Had an evening meal and service was good. Food was ordered and delivered promptly and was great. That said myself and a fellow diner were giving each others starter but as they tasted good neither of us minded. Only real negative of the evening was a live singer. He was actually really good but it was just too loud. Lovely setting especially in nice weather. We were a group of 8 and we sat outside on the decking by the lake. Our pre-ordered food sadly took 45mins to reach is and when it did it was a a little disappointing especially as most of the "hot" baguettes were in fact luke warm or cold. Portion sizes were rather tight as well. Perhaps an off day for them?

This is a lovely pub with a great restaurant. The location provides a perfect overlook to the lake behind too, both from sitting inside & outside. well designed & laid out. The staff are friendly and acommodating. The menu provides a wide & varied choice to suit every taste with good size portions too. I always enjoy returning to this pub, there is a warmth to it & an old fashioned feel (which I consider a good thing). Even more cozy as we enter the winter period. Well worth a visit if you are anywhere in the local vicinity. Easy to use website & book online too.

We hired a room in the heron on the lake for my 30th birthday. From initial booking all the way through to the end, the staff were very attentive and nothing was too much hassle. They allowed us to have decorations delivered and stored them safely as well as going above and beyond to make sure we had a lovely night. Thankyou! Would recommend if you have an event coming up :)
