Would like to thank the heron on the lake for making our evening relaxing and enjoyable, from the moment we got there to when we left, the food was nice and our waitress was very helpful, would recommend coming here as a really nice atmosphere too.

Beautiful setting and lots of space. The service was good but the food was underwhelming. I had hummus, which was not fresh, the fried onions smelt of rancid oil, the extra portion of chips looked pale and under cooked. Poor quality of food which does not justify the price.

This is a lovely pub with a great restaurant. The location provides a perfect overlook to the lake behind too, both from sitting inside & outside. well designed & laid out. The staff are friendly and acommodating. The menu provides a wide & varied choice to suit every taste with good size portions too. I always enjoy returning to this pub, there is a warmth to it & an old fashioned feel (which I consider a good thing). Even more cozy as we enter the winter period. Well worth a visit if you are anywhere in the local vicinity. Easy to use website & book online too.

We hired a room in the heron on the lake for my 30th birthday. From initial booking all the way through to the end, the staff were very attentive and nothing was too much hassle. They allowed us to have decorations delivered and stored them safely as well as going above and beyond to make sure we had a lovely night. Thankyou! Would recommend if you have an event coming up :)

The restaurant is beautiful, it's located on a small lake with beautiful views of the water. The staff were friendly and the food was quite good. A bit smaller than normal pub portions but they packed a punch in terms of flavour. I would highly recommend for a family dinner or just for a few drinks.

The Heron on the Lake is a great family-friendly pub with a welcoming atmosphere. Its location by the waterside offers scenic views, making it a lovely spot to relax. The venue is well-suited for families and pet owners, as dogs are allowed, adding to the cozy and casual vibe. The menu offers a variety of options, though the vegetarian dishes could be slightly more flavorful. The service is generally efficient and friendly, and the outdoor seating is a highlight, especially on a sunny day. Overall, it's a pleasant spot for a laid-back meal with family, friends, and furry companions.

I had a good meal here! The only thing to say is if you have a nut allergy be sure to make that clear as there seems to be a lot of stuff with nuts in. I did order my meal but my friend who ordered forgot to mention the allergy and the pesto had nuts in it. They swapped my meal and didn't charge extra, which they really didn't have to do so I appreciated that.

Really disappointed this Sunday lunch time. I've been coming to the Heron for many years and up to today it has always been excellent and I would previously have been happy to give a five star review. Having a McMullans in Fleet is such a privilege and being a real ale fan I was particularly looking forward to a pint of Country or mild after a long walk around Fleet Pond. They only had one beer on tap called, I believe, Grade. And not a beer I like. So I had two pints of Guinness, which I can get in most pubs in the area. My sister and I ordered calamari as starters only to be told it was not available, nor was the Chili chicken wings which was the only other starter I might have been interested in. So on to the main course. We ordered the lamb roast with extra roast parsnips but they were not available either. (Why are these items on the menu when they are not available!). We ordered cauliflower cheese and although hot, was not cooked as thoroughly as it might have been and it was a struggle to cut through some of it. All in all somewhat disappointing.

We have lived close to the Heron for many years and consider ourselves lucky to have a place like this on our doorstep. It was renovated earlier this year and the decking area particularly is looking very nice. The food however doesn't do the place justice. I don't know if it is just a phase or if the chef was a trainee the night we ate there and we were just a bit unlucky (Tuesday 27th Aug). We started by ordering the Potted Crab ( didn't have any) , Dusted Calamari ( told they haven't had this for months). We settled on the Prawns and the Scallops . Both were fine. I had the Fish and Chips . Chips were great but the Fish was small . My wife had the Market Fish special (Cod) with new potatoes and Kale with Baby leaf Spinach. The Cod was exceptionally small and the skin rather than crispy was wet . The new potatoes seemed to have been knocking around for a while as they were hard / dried. The Kale was undercooked /tough and there was no sign of any spinach . The chef remarked that the spinach may have just cooked down but neither we or the waiter could see any sign of spinach . None was offered . We had a drink on the Decking prior to dinning and I have to say that the waiting staff were very nice and helpful all night. I hope that we just had an unlucky experience with the dinning. I like to think that a place such as the Heron strives to keep standards high and doesn't rely on the lovely position by the lake to let standards slip.

Food 10/10. Sunday their beef is unreal. So good. Wish there was a little more beef for the price but the quality was an absolute 10/10. Can not fault it at all Prices - feel a little expensive for what you get? It’s fleet I guess and you don’t know what goes into the rent costs and so on. Atmosphere - it’s a nice place. The lake is pretty. Good seating areas all around Service - pretty slow. We had a long wait on food and after we actually left the table to go settle the bill it took that long. Wasn’t super busy when we were in? Servers were nice enough everything just took a while. Overall - been before. Would and will go again. Would recommend. Be ready to pay a little more but be ready for quality that reflects that in the food

Nice pub, lovely views, pity it got let down by the food. Maybe it’s just what we ordered, or perhaps expectations were too high! Burger was nice but the skin on fries were stale and cold, so had to send them back. The replacement was better. The courgette and halloumi salad was terrible. Halloumi undercooked and no sign of the pine nuts. I could see about 12 Pomegranate seeds in a pretty underwhelming salad, and as a main dish, had a lot to be desired. Fish and chips were average as the fish wasn’t the freshest. Lastly, the roast pork was good, but really could’ve done with a bit more pork. Service was great and so was the atmosphere. Lastly, no mobile signal(which is not in their control), but the only available WiFi was terrible, so no chance of anyone being reachable in an emergency.

The Chicken Milanese was truly excellent, deserving of 5 stars. Everything else ...was not. First, the chicken. It really was beautifully tender and well seasoned. One of the best I've had. Second, everything else. The Halloumi Salad was so dressed it was more like a smoothie. If there was anything but dressing and soggy cheese on the plate, I couldn't find it. The service was equally sloppy--we ordered tap water that didn't arrive until the meal was through. Staff seemed nice enough; just more or less ineffective at the whole service bit of their jobs. If you are in the neighborhood, absolutely stop for the chicken Milanese. But don't order anything else and make sure to bring your own water.

Visited yesterday to treat my mum to a bit of lunch in the sun & now I remember why I haven’t been there for so long! It wasn’t good. Sat outside & id say 60% of tables were full, inside was empty. Service from the start was incredibly slow, although the young team were polite enough, it was lacking. Ordered 1 steak frites & 1 crab salad. Steak came well done when I asked for medium rare, so when I eventually got someone’s attention I asked for it to be changed. The crab salad for almost £16 was underwhelming… literally 5 barely boiled new potatoes in such a light dressing, with a handful of rocket & 3 asparagus tips! It took almost 20 mins to get my new steak which was now rare, almost blue… and the toughest bit of meat I’ve ever been served! By time it arrived my mum had finished hers so had to wait for me. They forgot to return the £2.50 béarnaise sauce which didn’t taste anything like it anyways, so I told the waiter this & said I didn’t want it back but could I have some ketchup & mayo to help the beef go down… I gave up with beef. Whilst still eating I asked for the bill, by the time it came it had the sauce still on it so asked for it to be taken off…. Perhaps should have asked for the beef too as it was inedible. For a quick lunch that we came for… it took over 2 hours as service so slow etc. only managed 1 drink in all that time as they forgot the 2nd which we asked for when food arrived. very expensive for what it is, I get you probably pay for the view, but seats at the front of fence overlooking pound have no shade, and if you sit in row behind with an umbrella, you can’t really see it due to high fence & other tables. For the price I paid, I won’t be returning! They are charging high prices for dishes which don’t match the cost!

Extremely disappointed with the food quality AND quantity. The Devonshire crab salad, as a main dish, consisted of mainly new boiled potatoes on which a handful of salad was directly thrown over from the pack, a couple of asparagus sticks (not whole) displayed around, and the whole thing topped up with a tiny portion of tinned crab... for just under £16. Just unacceptable and a real joke! Following our complaint, they added skewed prawns but charged us £19 extra for them. It is a real pity because the place could have more to offer. It has potential with a spacious interior area and outside, a large sitting area agremented with a pleasant pond feature. A revised menu and choice of quality ingredients is strongly advised and needed.

Service was good. I just feel it's very expensive for what is essentially pub food. There was 4 of us that had starters, mains and 3 desserts. Came to £170 and that didn't include drinks, we bought those from the bar separate from the food bill. It's a nice place, loads of parking but too expensive for what it is.

The positives. Abby our server was great All the meals bar 2 were great. The Cod however left us speechless. As you can see from the picture it's size was very poor indeed considering the price was the same as the roast beef which was 3 slices of meat, a load more veg and a massive Yorkshire pudding and gravy. Yet here we were with a portion of fish which we were told was a "prime cut" of cod. Yeah pull my other leg why don't you. I think they were running out of fish and tried to pull a sneaky one by cutting the portions in half to make them go further and maximising profits. A small portion of badly boiled potatoes and something that resembled spinach accompanied it The good part of this was that we were not charged for those two meals. We left still feeling a bit peeved over it and I then decided to take it up with heron on the lakes parent company mcmullen The first email to mcmullen got a response of "Thank you for contacting us concerning your visit to the Heron on the Lake. I have asked the Operations Manager responsible for this house to investigate your comments and give me a report before contacting you again. So it's fair to say that the customer service and support is non existent and they are busy enough in the restaurant to lose a customer or 2. We went to a small family owned restaurant last night for our wedding anniversary, had a lovely time, food and service was absolutely spot on.

Had dinner at the heron last night. It was the first decent summer Saturday night and the restaurant was less than half full (which says a lot) and yet when we asked for a table outside they couldn't manage. Half the decking area was empty. I guess they are short staffed but it was chaos and confusion from the start. The lack of experience/training of the waitresses was clear. The food was strange. I had to try the bread with gravy and chicken skin scratchings just for the sake of it. Not good chicken scratchings with whipped butter and sourdough bread didn't need olive oil on it as well as the butter - that was just a freaky dish all round. The butter went well on my steak and chips though which I had as a main. That was fine but the buttered green veg was very poor. Microwaved limp and yet not cooked through. The 'catch of the day' was cod with new potatoes that had clearly been in the fridge and badly reheated. They tasted awful and the whole lot were left. The cod was OK but came with an awful unidentifiable sauce. I wanted a glass of wine but nobody came near so I went without. We made a complaint about the potatoes which was promised to be passed on but the bill came with no apology or reduction. So we asked a more experienced waitress who did at least get the manager, who just arrived with "are you the one who had the cod?" no apology. He offered a discount off the bill but was more keen to give us desserts. Maybe a complaint/refund had to be logged on the system, I don't know. So we said OK. The waitress took one order and quickly disappeared before I could order mine, so we shared which was OK as it happens as it was large and very good (Creme brulee). Then we asked for the bill. 10mins later no sign, so we walked in and asked the senior waitress and we paid. No apology. Service is chaotic at best. Training clearly required from the top down. Take the weird stuff off the menu and learn how to cook fresh vegetables. Oh, and check on the loo rolls in the ladies, as there wasn't any. On a beautiful Saturday night that location on the lake should be rammed. By 9 it was nearly empty. Not good. This is my local which I've been coming to for over 10 years. It's been up and down and this is the worst it's been. Please improve!

Very nice venue with atmospheric setting and lovely view but food and service was abysmal. We (6 of us) had booked a table as a birthday celebration. We ordered 4 starters and 2 mains to come all at the same time. The starters took 40+ minutes to come. One of the staters was the complete wrong item - slices of garlic bread instead of the warm bread with crackling butter - which we still got charged the more expensive price for. They forgot about the olives one of us had ordered and so we had to wait another 15 minutes for those. Said olives were then taken away before they had even been finished - without asking - as waiters were clearing some plates. They also hadn’t brought out our mains despite explicitly asking for them to be brought at the same time as the starters. When my main (chicken Milanese) came at the same time as everyone else’s (another 40 mins later), it was burnt in most areas which completely ruined the taste - presentation was awful and certain items like the pesto had obviously been dumped onto the plate from a jar of the the store-bought type. We left without dessert due to the waiting times being extortionate. I would like to point out that the venue was maybe 1/2 - 3/4 full with many waiters on shift, seemingly upwards of 10. Other tables around us had moved onto their mains by the time that we had received all of our starters. Overall poor service, long waiting times, below average food as well as a complete lack of hospitality and communication that bordered on the line of purposeful ignorance. Will not be dining here again and will definitely not be recommending this place.

I thought it may be larger or a bit more special than the light bite. When it arrived it was basic - small/medium gammon steak, smallish portion of chips in a pot, fried egg, and a huge piece of pineapple. When I checked if I'd got the lite by mistake I was told that the difference is the pineapple. So that's £5 for the pineapple which I consider to be garnish and never eat anyway ! Food quality was great and staff are lovely, but it wasn't worth £17 - not sure who would want £5 worth of pineapple on the side.

Perfect. First visit and won’t be the last. Worth the 40 mile trip to go there. Great staff and great food.

When I booked a reservation, I asked for the conservatory twice but we didn't get a view. Very disappointing. The food was lovely though and my mum enjoyed it.

Worst steak ever! Have you ever felt very disappointed with a meal? Well, today I got to experience this and I felt cheated. The quality of the steak was poor and tasteless, not what I would expect from a £27 cut that was supposed to be aged. The quality of the cooking was also poor beyond belief. But hats off to the staff; removed from the bill, no questions asked. For service, you get 4 stars. But a message to management: you have a serious problem with quality control and the produce that you are sourcing. Steak is a cornerstone of restaurants like yours; you need to get it right. Today you massively under delivered but made up a little bit for it with service. But the damage is done when you have bad food, unfortunately. UPDATE Have gone around the houses with the Mangers about the steak! The conclusion I came to was the quality of the Steak will not be improving any time soon. Aftercare handled badly won't be visiting again be WARNED!

Had a lovely Sunday lunch at Heron on the Lake in Fleet. The pub is very clean and beautifully situated by the lakeside, offering a very nice view. The service was great and very attentive. I had the Wagyu burger, which was good but a bit small, while my friends enjoyed the roast pork loin. Overall, the food was tasty and well-prepared. A great spot for a relaxed meal with a scenic view!

We love it here; the food's excellent and the service is very friendly. It's a lovely look-out to the lake as well. We went yesterday and they took the price of one of the desserts off the bill because it was late coming out. They didn't need to but we appreciated the gesture very much. Thanks Heron on the Lake, I'm sure we'll be back!

We’ve just left the heron on the lake after enjoying a delicious meal and drinks outside in the sunshine. We couldn’t not write a review based on the amazing service we received from Aidan. Aidan greeted us with a lovely smile and made us feel totally at ease during our meal, nothing was too much and he bought a happy and relaxed feel. We also bought our dog and the restaurant was incredibly accommodating, and even bought him over some treats. We’ll definitely be returning and look forward to our next visit.

Always a good experience and nice food and menu. Gastro pub so not cheap. They seem especially friendly to dogs now and get a drink bowl before you do. Lovely big decking over lake. No umbrellas so rather hot for us today but perhaps they will come out later in year. Good vegetarian options. Had a refit earlier 2024. All refreshed but otherwise very similar.

Great food; hot, plentiful and delicious. Superb service from Louise and Nicole. Update: 10th November 2024. Another return visit and, again, great food and service. A huge thanks to Amy and Lilia for the 1st rate service today.

I'd been with my partner a couple times before; July '21 for dinner and Feb '23 for a roast which had both been very enjoyable, both with atmosphere and food and so chose it as the restaurant for my birthday meal with family this year. Now, I'm not sure if it's changed hands in that time but unfortunately, we were really disappointed this time round. The veg was hard, totally under-cooked and the Yorkshire puddings were rock hard and chewy, seemingly microwaved rather than fresh. This means we will definitely NOT be returning for a roast, but also consider eating elsewhere generally.

I recommend this restaurant with its cosy atmosphere, perfect for a dinner with friends or a romantic get-together. A very welcoming and professional staff.
