Have been here a few times and have always enjoyed this but found the last visit quite unpleasant due to the front of house reception, unclear if this was the manager. Great selection of antiques and the cafe is also lovely so would still recommend visiting but this has been greatly let down by this staff member. We were ignored for several minutes with no apology and she gave the impression we weren’t the right cliental to be there. We were informed we had to carry down a heavy item of furniture from the top floor, we reluctantly agreed but I would question the health and safety of this and did not have to do this before.

We had a really disappointing experience today. We both ordered the avocado on toast with fried egg and a rasher of bacon, and it took 40 minutes to arrive even though the cafe was half empty. We could hear the four ladies out at the kitchen laughing and chatting together. In the meantime we were given the wrong tea, which was however quickly replaced, when we pointed it out. I went to ask where our food was, just as it arrived. When our food arrived, the avocado had been mixed with strong chili flakes, which I cannot eat. I ate what I could (the bacon and egg) as by that time I was hungry, and mentioned it to the young lady on the till. She was not even a bit apologetic and said that it said on the menu that there were chilli flakes. I showed her the menu and on the item above ours, - the salmon and avocado on toast, it said ‘chilli flakes’ in brackets - but not against the avocado on toast. The young lady said, ‘Oh, that’s a typo’. I said that it needed to be changed for safety reasons and added that I wasn’t telling her to be difficult or to get a refund, just out of concern for the safety of other customers. I react badly to chilli and there may be others who have an even worse reaction. She said, ‘The menu is done now: we’ll just have to tell people.’ We ordered some more tea and it was brought by a lady who slammed a small tray on the table with a refund on it, saying, ‘There's your refund’ with a very bad manner. I thanked her and said I hadn’t requested a refund, but had said the menu needs to be changed. She said, ‘The menu is going to be changed. It’s done now anyway.’ The location is lovely, and the antiques shop is fantastic - a real treasure trove. But we won’t be going back to the cafe. The staff today were unprofessional and rude. This was not the case in previous years, before it closed down and reopened earlier in the year. It was a place we always looked forward to going. This is the first time in years that I have written a really negative review, but we were made to feel as if we were making a fuss about nothing when in actual fact, there was nothing about the experience that was positive.

Ordered cheese on toast ,my friends had just about finished their toasted tea cakes when mine arrived. It was hardly toasted, the grated cheese was just warm the cheese underneath was cold.I tried the crust trying to make the best of it but took it back said to girl I can’t eat this as it’s not toasted.Poor girl didn’t have a glue and just said I’m sorry about that.No refund offered or something instead. Silly really as a friend had gone the week before and said Don’t have the cheese on toast. How difficult is it to grill cheese on toast?

Have been going here for years but today's visit was dreadful. We visited the tearoom first expecting our usual lovely experience but it was like a ghost town. A girl who said she was only temporary handed us a screwed up piece of paper with a few handwritten items on as the menu. We didn't stay even for a drink but decided to look round the centre so the visit wasn't wasted. There were several empty cabinets and sparse areas and lots of reduced items, it felt like maybe the place was closing down. Not sure if there has been a change of management but it's certainly not for the better.

I’ve been coming here for a few years. Always enjoyed it. Today, the lady with the shirt white hair (manager?), stocky build, in her late 50’s states to my partner “you don’t look as if you have the means to shop here”, after she had asked for items to be removed to try on from the cabinets next to the front desk, and then returned requesting another piece from elsewhere. She had a few items put behind the desk for payment after we had eaten, as is normal. My partner is mixed race (don’t know if this is relevant). I’m hurt and confused. I’m not used to this sort of behaviour there. I felt obligated to leave a review just in case anyone else has had a similar experience. The food was very good in restaurant, just for balance.

This restaurant is really amazing, the staff welcoming and very friendly. nothing too much trouble. Eaten here a few times and it never disappoints. The food is delicious sandwiches full nothing skimped. We had a chees and red onion omelette and a ham and cheese omelette, which were superb, could not be faulted. Chips, salad and coleslaw finished the meal. SO VERY reasonable in price. We were too early for the 'specials' the choices looked amazing. Flat while and orange juice. Well worth the visit, again. This is in the Antique Centre so would not do evening meals.

My partner and I have found this to be one of the best antique centres we've visited in the country. And we've been to quite a few. My partner is a wheelchair user and so we were delighted to find wheelchair access is very good. We were able to get around most of the ground floor in the building. Considering it is an old building ramps have been installed across uneven floors allowing us to get around. Sadly this doesn't extend to the upper floors which are only accessible by stairs. Better access than most though. As for content, there is a wide range of collectables and quality antiques across all subject. We made a few purchases and staff were both friendly and helpful. As for the café it is both readily accessible and has a very wide range of lunch option. that includes some of the best chips I've had for a long time. All in all a very pleasant visit though i suspect it does get busy so it's well worth checking out avoiding their busy times to ensure a parking space.

Be here once or twice before. Handy cafe for using after browsing the shops there. Food is pretty basic at the best of times. Today we went in, waited to be seated, then waited for a server. When I ordered I was told rather coldly that they stop doing food at 4. It was exactly 4 - by the time we were asked what we wanted. I told the young girl it was 4 and could she check please as we'd like to order a couple of bacon rolls. She went to the kitchen and came back and just said no. Just no. Not a really sorry - just no. They close at 4:30 so were still open for 30 minutes more. So we left. Won't be returning. Amazing how businesses like this can treat customers with such distain.

We have just visited this establishment. After browsing for a couple of hours we decided to stop in the cafe for a drink. We were seated at a table by a very unwelcoming waitress, but, never mind I thought. I'm thirsty. Then a waitress came over to take our order. Do you have any vegan items? I asked. Steak chips she giggled. OK. I then asked what chocolate tiffin was, to which she replied what? So I repeated it louder. She then told me what was in it and I asked, is it a biscuit then or a cake? We have biscuits if that's what you want she retorted. Her manner was becoming more and more hostile so I said I will just have a glass of water please. The really disgusting bit was yet to come. She went behind the till and started telling the other waitress about her experience with us, saying I shouted at her,and generally mimicking me, We all left and we will never return. It also says online they offer vegan options, chips or jacket potato!! I did speak to the management about their terrible behaviour and they merely replied ok. So if you want terrible customer service from surly staff who will talk badly about you. This is the place to go. If not go elsewhere.

Visited on a Sunday. Lots of tables were reserved, but we were accommodated. Ordered two pots of tea, a date scone and a slice of coffee and walnut cake. The tea came quickly, but we were served it in coffee cups. I can only liken this faux pas to drinking wine from a beer glass. We asked to get them changed. The date scone was awful. Small and rubbery. It looked like it has been reheated in the microwave. We changed it for a slice of Victoria sponge. Both cakes were enjoyable, but not home made. We waited for the explanation from the chef regarding the scone, but none came. The decor and styling of the cafe is lovely. The staff were friendly but it was let down by the quality of the food and attention to detail.

The White Lion Tea Room is usually fantastic. Today I went for lunch and waited 30 mins for someone to clear the table from the previous customers and take our order. Waited another 40 minutes before meal was served. Had to ask for cutlery (twice). Gave up on pudding as we were left for another 20 minutes after we had finished our meal. Ended up buying some cake and taking it home for tea as lost the will to live to get served at our table. Felt very sorry for the waiting staff who were clearly rushed off their feet and totally overwhelmed. The management need to organise training and proper rotas Would never go again when it is busy. There were Roman items, antique silver, furniture , vintage clothing and so much more. All laid out well and a very good atmosphere.. without sounding silly the music was the right tempo , so many antique centres do not set the right tone, literally!A bonus was the restaurant/cafe, it is both. You can have just tea and cake or a full meal; maybe book in advance, it was very popular (Sunday).Top tip. Have a scone. Many different flavours, delicious.

Car parking is good, the big white building is easy to see on the road. We had tea & cake in the cafe. Cake homemade and tasted fresh and delicious. You also get a decent portion sizes! Guaranteed return trip as they're genuine and not trying to fleece you. I'm sure the dinner menu is equally satisfying. In fact, we noticed a few "Reserved" tables for lunches in about 2 hours, so a very popular spot.

You will be amazed at the number of exhibitor's here, lots of floors to explore and lose yourself in the vast array of antiques and collectibles. You can easily lose track of time, like I did, but well worth it.

The food was really nice and very reasonably prices, bout £8.95 for a roast dinner (Lamb, Beef or Pork). Good portions and nice dessert options too. Only real negative was that the service was a bit slow and we had to fight a bit to get attention for service to order, have the table cleared and get the bill.

Looking for a place to go for a stroll and chat with a friend, we thought of visiting the White Lion complex, which we have both driven past on lots of occasions. Well worth a wander around the various rooms which house the antiques and collectables for sale from numerous vendors. The cafe restaurant offered a good Sunday lunch and it would have been rude not to try it, so we did and it was much enjoyed, lots of fresh veggies and yummy red wine gravy with our roast beef. We didn't get time to go back for cakes but they looked good! Worth a visit.

We started off in the cafe. They were out of jacket potatoes but the waitress was not aware of this and have to come back and tell us. However, the portion of cheesy chips more that made up for that! The sandwiches were delicious and the beans on toast hit the spot! The collectibles were eclectic and entertaining. Definitely worth another visit. Top Tip - if you see something you like - buy it cos it wont be there next time!.

Went in here again today and noticed that its very much improved!!! We felt it was run down a year back but certainly got their act together! And generally a lot more competitive than places like the pack house!!!

Met up with some friends we hadn't seen in many years and were dubious as there were a few not good reviews (totally uncalled for).Delicious coffee, good sized portions, great staff & a good price. Never been asked how I would like my bacon in a brie and bacon baguette before, how lovely! The only thing I would change is the size of coffee - the cups aren't big enoughWill definitely go back

This is the second time I have been here last time was over a year ago and it seems to have less interesting things for sale and more modern stuff which isn't very interesting for me. I can't comment on the food but I don't think I will be coming back. I did notice that many items where still there from my last visited maybe they should look at their pricing as well.

We have been here on numerous occasions and have always had a great food! NOT TODAY first of all it was freezing inside the tea room. We waited for one one of the waiting staff to order our food , but after 15 minutes I went up to the counter and waited.. while the young girl checked her Apple Watch after a few minutes I asked her could I place an order, which I gave her , and asked about the lack of heating and I was told by a young man that they have had people looking at it in the week . ( obviously they didn't fix it). Still freezing and noticing other people mention about lack of heat . Our tea arrived after five mins and our sandwiches arrived 20 minutes later. By this time what was left of tea was now cold, so asked young man for some more hot water , he filled the pot right to the top ! The coronation chicken sandwich was very messy too much mayo and very tangy in taste no raisins and bread dry. Bread dry on my sandwich cheese and pickle. Still freezing I Paid bill , wasn't asked if everything was ok like you would normally be asked . Appalling, on all levels! To not have back up heating in an eatery is really not on ! You either ate with your coat on or you put your coat on . Glad to go and sit in a warm car that was parked in the sunshine.

After much thought and experiencing some dreadful lunches out I said I d like to try the Whyte Lion , it's about 1/2 mile from where I live in the village , much to my surprise it was very very busy , good on them , order was taken about 5 minutes after we sat down , drinks 3 wines and a beer , food , 4 Roast Beefs , fantastic portions , burning hot plates , lots of fresh vegetables , jug of proper gravy , Desserts or Puddings however you like it ,4 Apple and berry crumbles with ice cream , piping hot , really delish comfort food on a wet winters day , now the damage £69.11p , boy was that good , we left a decent tip , the service was excellent and I went to the kitchen to say to the chefs Well done ! Loved the restaurant not heaving with screaming kids , no loud blaring music , but normal adults all having a good honest lunch or afternoon tea , well done everyone , I might only be 1/2 mile away but my mistake by not trying you before , I ll be there again very soon , Excellent day out thank you . ( After 48 years cooking myself they did an excellent job , no ponsey food , good honest comfort food . Back in the dark ages when the Whyte Lion was owned by Shooner Inns I used to work there , they were the days of Prawn cocktails , Steaks dinners and Black Forest gateau , times have changed somewhat but hopefully the new owners will keep the same standards and its good honest food with good service and great staff ) ......Antaeus

We always stop here for lunch when in the area. The food is good, freshly cooked and nicely presented and tasty. My wife loves the cakes, especially the lemon and lime meringue pie - yummie.

Cream teas did not have great clotted cream on last visit - more like double cream, sadly. But usually better. Scones and cakes are home made and food is fresh.

I visit here quite often. Good food, great service and a friendly atmosphere. First time I took one of my friends there we arrived at 10.00 looked around the ground floor, had coffee and then looked at some of the second floor. We had lunch (very good) and continued to look around until 3pm. Charlotte, see visitor's photos, is a delightful young lady. Well worth a visit. You will not be disappointed.

I was mainly visiting the antique centre but stopped for lunch. Apart from the slowish service (but so friendly you hardly mind) it was very good. An excellent omelette with more chips than I could eat, plus a salad, for £7.50. Good selection of daily specials as well as various sandwiches. Normally they have a licence for a glass of wine but it has just changed hands and that's not through yet. People at the table nearby had a cream tea which looked very good too, with a great variety of scones. Much of the menu is made on the premises. Would visit again.

I have been here several times. Sometimes just for a sandwich or Panini. There are several choices all beautifully presented. You can enjoy a glass of wine, tea, coffee or a soft drink.Their sunday lunch is absolutely delicious. I had roast beef, Yorkshire puddings, roasties and fresh vegetables are served in a separate dish with lovely gravy. Well worth a visit on a sunday they usually have choices for roast dinner i.e. chicken, pork or lamb too. There is a blackboard with the day's specials which are equally tempting. You can have a cream tea or cake and tea if you just want to pop in.The Antiques are worth looking round too and the displays are changed often. The staff are friendly and obliging. In all well worth a visit.

I was asked in by the owner Charlotte for paid trial shift, which I was happy to do. However, halfway through the shift it was very quiet so I was asked to come back another day (hoping it would be busier). I came back two days later for my second trial, with the manager Evette, who was rude to me and told me (a trained barista), that I was making coffees the wrong way around.I was sent home early again due to lack of customers and was told that I would be paid via bank transfer at the end of the month. To this day I still haven't received any payment for my two trials and the owner Charlotte isn't responding to any emails I send her. I had provided her with my details to make the transfer, and even had a old clocking in card for the time I worked. It's a real shame that she didn't stick to her word as she seemed like a nice young woman when I met her.I certainly won't be going back there even for a cup of tea.Her management skills need work.

Our first visit as fairly new to the area. Very welcoming, friendly, helpful staff. Enjoyed looking at the cars as it was a Motor fest event. Food was lovely, my husband had the pie of the day and I enjoyed roast beef. Will definitely be returning. Great country location near the Basingstoke canal.

Good seasonal menu choice, loved the game casserole. Treacle tart reminded me of my Granny's. Cosy fire and friendly service. We had a nice New Zealand white, draught Aspalls and alcohol free Guinness.
