Stated as dog friendly. Not dog friendly in my mind. Yes you can take your dog to your room and they will give you a basket and bowls, but you pretty much are expected to remain in your room. You are not permitted to sit and have a drink with your hound. Also if you have to sit in your room, you don't even have a fridge. So yes you can come and go with your dog and go elsewhere but the fact you booked a nice hotel to stay at is pointless unless you just want a room. Here now and not impressed. Additionally signage is terrible. If in car park and parking soon after entering you can have to walk back downstairs and back around to go back out through the car exit and to the left. It was not at all well highlighted. Nice hotel apart from that. But I would expect a fridge in the room at the least.

Poor customer service and what’s really annoying for a local family - they aren’t children friendly. I went on a cold Saturday morning wanting breakfast and coffee. The smell from the kitchen was overpowering , they really need to sort out the extractor fan and when we decided we just have a coffee the American sounding bloke was quick to say , it’s a restaurant and made sure we felt we weren’t welcome . Shame as I work across the road and live locally but they won’t have my business again.

The unbelievably rude and verbally/physically abusive landlady, Hatt Eaton, was so unpleasant to our (booked) table of 5 South African and French friends during the South Africa v France World Cup Rugby Quarter-final, that in the end we all left and went to the pub next door. And this, because one of our male French companions dared to celebrate a bit too loudly for her liking when France scored a try. I mean, it was one of the most exciting first halves of any Rugby World Cup seen thus far! Mon Dieu, give us a break. Apparently, cheering is not allowed in this establishment that widely advertised their sports screenings and encouraged bookings "to avoid disappointment". Patrolling her pub like a menopausal prison warden, she pounced on me instead - a local resident of 23 years, sporting my Springbok beanie and definitely NOT celebrating at that stage - and grabbed both my arms while stood towering over me (still seated as we'd already been belligerently admonished, before kick-off, that standing, too, was against "house rules"!). Digging her nails into my flesh, she (literally) spat into my face when I questioned her physical attack with "my house, my rules!", followed by further obscenities aimed at intimidating me to leave her (as she called it) "Bravo Award-winning Best Local". Well, I guess that explains the bitchy "bravado" and delusions of grandeur but sadly also diminishes the authenticity and validity of said awards in general. Respect to the poor young bar staff, though; like little rabbits in headlights, it seems this wasn't a first for them. Bless, please save them, someone! Suffice to say, after this blatant display of xenophobia, there followed a Franco-South African exodus . . . We can recommend the Duke of Wellington next door, though! They welcomed us with open arms, a fantastic atmosphere and lively hospitality. (And apparently, according to some locals, it was a regular occurrence for casualties to limp in here from next door, as strangers, or foreigners for that matter, were regarded with suspicion at The Eddy . . . why, because there is more than meets the eye, as rumours might suggest? One of my companions, a nurse practitioner, did observe that the landlady was perhaps not high on life.) We enjoyed a nail-biting second half of a brilliant game here at the Duke and will be back. The Eddy, however . . . never! Seems a bit old Hatt after all that.

Take your dogs, shut the baby gates and relax, as they play with other doggie customers and the owners dog. let them sit on the settees, and relax too

A bit disappointed, food is not the greatest, pasta was too undercooked and it's annoying that they don't take orders at the counter while the ordering system doesn't work properly on the phone. Also the large portion which is significantly more expensive than the regular in virtually the same size.

Hot day, we were on our way back home with my 92 yr old father. Stopped for lunch, hubby and dad had their lovely carvery. I opted for a Turkey salad. It was £10.99. This is the pitiful offering they served me. The girl on the till apologised and at an extra cost changed it up for a carvery, which was as usual lovely. She was extremely professional and was honestly embarrassed and said so. Saying it's the size head office recommends. As you can see it was pitiful, the chief wasnt best pleased and pointed at me, (we were the only table in the area occupied at the time). I did write to the chain, who passed it onto the actual pub and I got an unsatisfactory reply, especially as i lip read and knew exactley what the chief and Carver were saying. Hence my review, please stick to the carvery, bypass the salad, just lettuce, sparse preped pizza toppings and turkey scraps.

Stopped in here for a drink on Friday evening with a couple of friends. Great drinks selections. Double up offers on spirits and staff were really fun and friendly. It was surprisingly quiet for a Friday night and I think this was due to some weird rule being enforced by the door staff. When we arrived there was a group of 6 or 7 women speaking to the bouncer who was telling them they couldn't come In due to being too big a group. They in no way looked like trouble and as I say the pub was pretty empty and had plenty of seats available so this seemed odd. Surely that's a judgement call situation which in this case was a pretty poor one IMO. In this economy I'm surprised that Brighton pubs are able to turn away groups of paying customers at 8pm on a Friday night. I think had there been a bit more of a vibe in there we would have stayed longer but instead we had one and moved on. Time to review your door policy I think guys as it's affecting your revenue
