I visited here by accident after the venue I was planning to go to was closed for a private event. Because of the name, I had assumed this place was just good for beer but I was pleasantly surprised to find a lovely, cosy pub. Yes, there is a great range of craft beer but there's also lots of other drinks on offer, and the food we ordered was lovely too (chips were particularly good, and staff were very also helpful with dietary requirements). There was a nice, friendly vibe here and would happily return again. Great size TV for football, too (there was a match on the night I visited but only a few people seemed to be watching).

As we don’t know Brighton well, we chose Browns for a family celebration thinking it would be a safe bet. Apart from feeling very disorganised, the food was dreadful. None of it was good quality (we had lobster, steaks, fish & burger), cooked terribly and poorly presented. For the cost of the bill, it was dreadful.

Trish was the nicest server I’ve ever had. she was incredibly attentive, sweet and fixed the meal when we got it wrong. The meal was delicious and we had the best experience. It was the first trip to this harvester, and it was the cleanest salad bar I’ve ever seen.

Alas no longer the Melrose. It has belonged to The Regency (next door) for some years and they decided to call it by an Italian name but it is still run as the old Melrose but with fewer dishes and prices still the same as next door. For years we though they were rivals, but no, same food, interchangeable waiters and, as always much emptier than next door.

THE BEST FISH AND CHIPS ON THE SOUTH COAST easily . Been using these for over a year . And you think a seaside town would have loads of good fish and chips , wrong , lived here for 20 years . Good chippie is hard to find , but wow guys and gals try this anything on the menu is banging and the chips are so nice you won’t be disappointed . It’s like a closely guarded secret for locals only . Great value as well , and always delivered hot . The box meals great value , large chips is enough for me and my wife , the fish is just epic :) Thanks fillets chippie ,( it’s Jon from heron court )

Last visited here a couple of years ago and standards have slipped. Ordered a Korean burger and tenders. Both were luke-warm and soggy, clearly from a warming cabinet. Asked for them to be remade which they were. Much better and crunchy, which is essential. At this price point I would expect freshly made every time. I would also expect the chicken burger to be fillet, rather than thigh, which is a bit of downgrade. Chips were good, though. Definitely a drop in standards. Won't be going back until I hear they have improved things.

I ate at this restaurant whilst staying in the attached hotel. Service was good and food was excellent. I visited on a Thursday evening when there was a ‘half price steak’ night which excellent value. The wine list was limited but with a good selection of options available.

Popped in on day 3 of the beer festival not expecting too much (being the last day of the festival) but was pleasantly surprised. The pub was not that busy and the staff in the bar were mostly friendly. Good range of beers and there was a mellow band playing. Might be somewhat different on a gig night or busy night but enjoyed my visit.

I visited Hope and Ruin solo whilst in Brighton and really liked my time there. Staff were very friendly throughout, nice range of drinks on tap and the food I had was amazing with so much flavour. The place in general has a great vibe to it aswell. One of my favourite places I've been to in Brighton already and if I come back again I'll happily visit once more
