Regency Restaurant in Brighton and Hove

First off wheelchair UNFRIENDLY! Food very average at best ! Service get you in and get you out as fast as possible! Waiters ! Well not waiters at all Just people to put food and drinks on your table and it seemed a chore to do so! First and last visit Not only my opinion but all 4 of us Will not visit again !

I use to love this place, and would make an effort to eat there a couple of times a year. Sadly I have been put off. Food is lovely…… but a waiter who uses his hand to wipe a snot string from his nose and then wipes on his T-shirt is not acceptable and lacking in basic hygiene.

Average take on fish and chips, medium size serving and just served warm. Rest of party weren't overly impressed either Won't visit again in a hurry

This restaurant features a variety of wonderful seafood. This pigeon especially enjoyed the sauce of 'The Mediterranean' as well as its delicious food. There's quite a lot of people here and many staff as well, which is good. Staffs are friendly, food is nice, drinks are also cool, making this restaurant a great place to eat. Scallops were tasty as well, this pigeon would recommend you to try them out! I had a nice meal. 🍤🐠🐋🦞🦀🦐🦑 😋

Gorgeous piece of seabass with a "small" selection of potatoes & very nice jus. What made me laugh though was "Spotted Richard" REALLY !!! it's Dick, my other complaint was the pudding portion size was small & not enough custard, otherwise it was tasty.

Always delicious food. Standard fish and chips done very well. This time tried the grilled garlic king prawns and the fish pie -- both vert tasty! Three courses with glass of wine was £40.

Delicious garlic prawns and scallops, mackerel pate good. Lovely fish and chips. Minestrone was a bit watery and not enough veg really. Would recommend.

Eaten here many times and would've given it 5 stars before. Today had poor food compared to usual. Chips were luke warm at best, and chicken burger not good quality for cost. Will be finding elsewhere in future.

NOT WORTH THE RISK - I've eaten here a couple of times, been good before but recently had the seafood and the mussels were RANCID and clearly gone off. The great atmosphere isn't worth the risk of food poisoning imo

Family get together in Brighton & heard great reviews about this restaurant. Really great regency building/interior looks authentic. The food excellant but the staff were overpowering & pushy which was a shame!

I have just had one of the most disappointing lunch experiences ever. I had booked a table as a solo diner. When I arrived I was met at the door by a very rude man who was very intolerant and unfriendly when I was saying I'd booked, claiming he couldn't hear me. He then marched off, so I followed, and I was then seated at what I think must have been the worst seat in the restaurant. Right next to the kitchen entrance, with a baby pram parked next to me and the waiter station. The restaurant was half empty but I wasn't given a choice of much better seats - presumable as I was there alone. The better seats remained empty during the time I was there. My chair was kicked several times during my meal by staff going in and out of the kitchen and at one point one of the staff actually kicked my foot (she did apologise). Service was very quick and my food appeared very quickly. The scampi was not nice at all - very slimy. I couldn't decide if it was undercooked or just very poor quality. It's not how I've had scampi before. I was not approached at all during my meal to check if everything was OK, despite being right under the noses of all the waiting staff! When my plate was cleared away (I left most of it) I was asked if everything was OK. I said no, it wasn't very good at all. There was no acknowledgement of this, no apology or further questions. I paid the bill and left. 40 minutes after walking through the door. Not the nice, relaxing Sunday lunch I'd hoped for.

Food is very very very expensive. On top of it, there is extortionate charges on service charge which is included in the bill. ... most places that is an option. Felt scammed since the chips especially was so little. The fish was amazing. Best I've had so far in brighton.

I don’t get the hype and the popularity. It was crazy busy with lots of reviews which gets you excited no? The food was like any other seafood spot in the city, a little more bland even, just extremely overpriced. Service was ok. They care more about getting as much people in and out rather than actually providing a good experience. Would not be going again.

The best seafood I've tried in the area, good sized portions, reasonably priced!

For starters I ordered dozen oysters (£34). The plate was too small, there were no disinfectant wipes to clean hands afterwards. For the Main I ordered Regency Seafood Risotto (£17.95). The rice was undercooked, the prawns were undercooked also, the calamari slices were undercooked too. The food was overflowing with tomato sauce. When I complained to the waiter, I didn't get an apologyan apology, instead he said that the chef didn't use Basmati rice, but ordinary, and I should have complained earlier, because he would have cooked the rice himself. Poor customer service.

It was very unpleasant experience the service was awful. The staff or the manager was very rude (The old guy with the pony tail hair) the food was normal nothing special about it. After we finished what we ordered straight away the waiters asked us to leave as they want the table. We had guests from abroad and we were very embarrassed from the situation all together.

Great dining experience! Delicious salmon and salad! Crème brûlée was good, too! Forgot to take pics of food, but got some of establishment with owner (seated) in one.

One of the worst place ever, i went there today to drink something with my guest came from London, once i order my drink they keep asking for food and we said we will drink only after they gave us the drinks 5 minutes later they send the bill and told us we need the table and they treat us with no smile and angry face. Which is very bad service, for me if there is 0 from 10 i would give them and there is old guy was kidding at the first till we order drinks only.

Delicious oysters are the pinnacle of this restaurant in my opinion! Seafood is great, fresh and atmosphere is phenomenal. Waiters are great at recommending wine and food, service was awesome.

Great food, mostly Great service, although the older gentleman who took our order could work on his smile. Waitress who delivered our starters looked a bit hassled, but it was very busy. The young waiter who brought our mains was lovely, good smile and very welcoming. The food was delicious, lovely fresh seafood. Unfortunately we didn't see the specials board until after we ordered, nor was it pointed out to us, otherwise we would have ordered from it instead. However I have no complaints about the food. A little expensive but you get what you pay for. I will definitely be back but at least next time I'll know where the specials board is.

The prawn cocktail was one on the poorest I have ever eaten.More like shrimps than prawns.Straight out of the fridge.The sauce tasted of nothing. However the Crab salad was excellent.A really big crab with lots of meat.Excellent service.A bill for £32.09 with a service charge of 12 1/2%.

This is my second time visiting this restaurant and it didn't disappoint. We booked a table for 7.30 pm and I'm glad we did because it quickly filled up. We had scallops, and oysters to start, both were excellent, really fresh and tasty. My friend had the plaice and chips and I had the fish pie, again both dishes didn't disappoint. The staff were mostly friendly, especially the waiter who brought our mains, although the waitress looked a bit harassed (it was very busy) and the waiter who took our order might want to practice on his smile! My only complaint is that we didn't see the specials board until after we ordered, had it have been pointed out to us we probably would have ordered from it instead. But overall an enjoyable experience.

As a solo diner for late afternoon supper, I was offered a seat jammed in next to a table with a buggy that was touching the table offered ( the buggy would have to have been moved to let me in) so I asked for another table. She then took me to the back which was empty except for a large birthday party private dining. So she seated me on the tall table in front of the bar. Fish and chips lovely. There are 2 steps in front of the bar that aren’t obvious and diners going to the downstairs toilets have to walk in front. An elderly man didn’t see the 2 little steps and fell over knocking my table, thankfully he wasn’t hurt and got up with help of waiters. Not the usual relaxing time I anticipated £21 for cod, chips and mushy pea and a soft drink

Has an absolutely amazing meal here yesterday (14-09-2024). I had the risotto, it was full of flavour, lots of seafood and a very generous portion. The staff were very nice, service was quick but not rushed and the restaurant was busy. Very lovely experience. Thank you!

ATMOSPHERE: If you can sit outside, you have a nice view of the water. There is nothing wrong with the atmosphere inside, but it is just nothing special. FOOD: Fish and chips Fish: Excellent! The best (cod and haddock) fish portion of a "fish and chips" I have ever had. The batter was crsipy and stuck with the fish with each bite - as opposed to a more "bread-like" batter where the batter and fish slide away or fall off each other as if there is a gap between the fish and the inside of the batter to allow the fish to just drop out once the "seal" on the batter is broken into by a fork. Chips: Average. There was no crispiness at all. They were more like American steak fries. There was also not much flavor to them. My guess is the oil was too fresh, so there was no special seasoning benefit that only happens from using the same oil over and over for the chips.

Good food and large portions but staff is rude, doesn’t engage at all ie our weigher threw the (dirty/broken) menus on the table without saying a word. Floors a little dirty from previous customers.

The seafood and fresh and delicious! The fish soup, scallops and the seafood spaghetti are the dishes you should not miss! The only problem probably is your need to wait for seats

We went for a drink after a long walk in the middle of the day - but we had to eat ?? Anyway we noticed that they seemed to have a lot of seafood - which we like. So we decided to make a reservation for the evening, to be sure to get a nice table. When we arrived we were placed almost in the door opening, and the tables where so close that the waiters/guests butts almost knocked over our glasses. We asked if this was the only available table - and the owner (?) heard it and commented to the waiter "that it's another couple outside!!" Which probably meant that we could just leave! But the waiter found a new table for us. We ordered grilled salmon steak. Then we regretted that we did not walk away....The fish had been frozen and the top of it was dry and hard, while the skinside was floating in water and butter! In a seafood restaurant you do not serve frozen fish - not at that prize! The atmosphere was terribly stressful and loud, and the staff where just eager to clear the tables asap. Never again - money machine!

Always great fish dishes at reasonable prices, especially compared to the more expensive French restaurants in town. Bit noisy though, as no carpet or table cloths but otherwise nice atmosphere. Service is quite speedy too. Overall would recommend as best fish restaurant in town for the money.

I've been visiting this restaurant for nearly 30 years, I now live quite a way away so made the most of a recent visit to Brighton by going to this restaurant two days running. The food is excellent and great value and the staff are very friendly as well

Never judge a book by its cover. Looks average at the front, staff were amazing and very knowledgeable. Food was amazing. Long time since muscles, prawns and fresh sea bass have tasted that good. If you go in, want to think twice, don’t. You will not regret it. Thank you guys

The Staff were horribly Unfriendly.The fish and chicken burger was over cooked. The staff were egar to clear the table quickly. They never made any effort to ask us how the food was. We shall never go again to this restaurant.

We visited Regency Restaurant in Brighton with a reservation for lunch, expecting a pleasant dining experience. Unfortunately, our visit was anything but enjoyable. Upon arrival, there was confusion about our booking and we were not greeted or seated by the staff. We inquired with a waitress about where to wait, and her response was dismissive, instructing us to “wait wherever.” The situation escalated when we sought clarification on whether to join a queue or wait at the front. The waitress’s manner became increasingly unprofessional, culminating in a confrontation where she sought validation from other customers about my supposed rudeness, despite her initial discourtesy. Feeling unwelcome and disrespected, we chose to leave the restaurant. It’s disheartening to consider, but our treatment may have been influenced by racial biases. This experience was deeply disappointing, and we cannot recommend Regency Restaurant. Future patrons deserve better service, especially when the restaurant is busy.

Abismal service Abismal food A day tripper, tourist trap

Think this restaurant is a little over hyped. The fish and chips were okay, but certainly not the best I’ve ever had. Chips were too dry, perhaps a little over cooked and the fish didn’t have much flavour. Have had better from my local chip shop in West Midlands at less than half the price. Couldn’t fault the service or venue, which were both spot on.

One of the best restaurants I've been to in England when it comes to fish. Prices are just right, you can get good big portions plates at affordable prices, definitely felt like I wasn't being ripped off like other places I've been to. Great atmosphere, the waiters were all very polite and helpful. My Italian family was well impressed with their English fish and chips. I had the mixed fried seafood and it was a massive portion, so rest assured that if it's fish you crave, here you can certainly satisfy your appetite. Definitely have recommended this place and will continue to talk it up to my friends and colleagues.

Our last night in Brighton, obviously wanted to leave with another sea food meal in our belly. We had to wait for maybe 10 mins to get a table for 2. Ordered fish and chips, scallops in garlic and butter, and fried calamari. Everything was fresh, and excellent. We had eaten in another place the previous night which cost us double this price, but this place was double the value, and taste. Therefore the 5 stars. Nice staff is always an excellent bonus.

My seafood risotto was good however all the mussels were out of date. I warned the waiter and he didn’t take any action whatsoever or apologised. Seafood poisoning can be very dangerous so I think he should’ve taken this more seriously. Food was good but not amazing - very average on taste and presentation.

Strongly recommended by the family member and they had visited last summer so we must pay a visit this July; however, if there is a no star review, I would give a no star. 1. drinks- dragonfruit mocktail, absolutely revolting and tasted like plastic water, avoid it at all cost !! And was told the strawberry one was sweet but turned out to be very tart, incorrect product knowledge. 2. the seafood platter - mussels were so off that the odor was actually so stinky and can be picked up from 2 seats away, along with the lobsters, the flesh was mushy!!!?? with that kind of a price, thats absurd. Stop treating the customers like they dont know what fresh seafood taste like. 4. the Service - so eager to turn table that even kept asking me/us to pass the plate so he can clear the last empty plate on the table while I was paying the bill at the table, horrible ! Thou he saw me checking the bill and still asked me to pass the plate !! I dont blame the waiter but the management and the owner. 5. the main - really enjoyed the hake at the other seafood restaurant so might as well give it a try here and shockingly turned out to be under-seasoned and quite a bit water came out of the chunk. Also ordered seafood risotto , grilled salmon which were all mediocre. Never return again.

Great dinner place by the seafront for Lobster and mussels. Also great variety on the menu for those who do not like seafood. Lobster was fairly priced for the location and tasted really fresh. Service was not the best due to how busy the restaurant was and we had to call over different waiters on multiple occasions since dishes was missing. The waiter was very rude after we asked to take off the service charge due to this. Overall very good food just shame about the service but I may be one off

To be honest, the main is very mediocre, although the pudding is quite good. The only reason I give it a 4 star is because of the big ketchup portions and the fast service... atmosphere is good if you like spotting cars and watching the tower

It is a travesty it is the worst place I've ever eaten at. Romanian staff who are so rude its unimaginable and expect a tip. Rude is an understatement. Food was overcooked and horrible. Never again

Lovely restaurant and food excellent.

Our first visit was an unforgettable culinary experience. The seafood platter was nothing short of exceptional, boasting the freshest and most delectable seafood we've encountered in the UK. However, our return visit painted a completely different picture. Despite having a reservation, we were subjected to an excessive wait time and encountered unhelpful staff. To our dismay, the quality of the seafood had drastically deteriorated compared to our previous visit. While our initial experience was deserving of a 4/5 rating, the subsequent visit compelled us to downgrade the overall rating to a disappointing 2/5.

The food was delicious mostly, except for the mussels in the seafood risotto (which tasted not very fresh and smelled badly). Other dishes were very tasty. The service was absolutely disappointing. They were too busy, leaving us waiting for the dessert for so long. They didn’t realised that the dessert had never come and brought us the bill to pay. Also, one of them argued with us that there was nothing wrong with the mussels. The atmosphere was vibrant. It’s a popular and busy restaurant. Good location, just beside the sea.

As always, an excellent experience. The fish soup is to die for. This restaurant is a true Brighton institution and we love it!

Walked in on a weekday with a reservation but would say that it should be fine without one. Service was fast and the food was alright. Portion was huge and the price was reasonable

Past 3 years visiting this place during the summer time and never disappointed! Calamari are always on point event better than the one served in Spain - all other food great as well ! Service is nice efficient and never under. Highly recommended

Just ordered fish and chips as well as other dishes for my partner. This has to be the worst fish and chips I have had in my life. It tasted like it was supermarket bought. Chips were dry as hell. Tasteless. The fish was mushy, most of it was skin, barely any fish meat in there and the batter was limp, not crisp. Mushy peas and tartar sauce were the best feature. Disappointing!

The atmosphere of the restaurant is good. The outside of the restaurant is beautiful. It is located next to the sea. You can see the sea view. The dishes are big and delicious.

Excellent food and great choice.Friendly service but very busy so you need to look round and catch the attention of a server . Nevers fauls to satisfy. Lovely crusty fresh bread. Fried fish platter was first rate. Fish soup good but could have been heavier on seafood.

This popular seaside restaurant is more known for lunch and dinner meals than breakfast and we should have gone somewhere else for breakfast.

Delicious Food and lovely service

Went to this restaurant yesterday, it was when the pride parade was on so very busy. The cocktail myself and daughter had was frozen drinks and the food was overpowered by garlic, the humous was not home made. The staff was fine except did not know what a black Russian was I explained what was in it but she was still not sure and another lady came over and she knew what we wanted. I was so disappointed as have been here before a year or so ago and it was fantastic.

This place looks amazing from outside and gives that impression of fresh and tasty....but it's a far cry from anything great. The chips are similar to fish and chip shops but worse. The fish is NOT fresh and totally tasteless. Boiled potatoes are nasty, zero flavour. Everything is overpriced and just poor quality.....been coming here on and off for 25 years and it's getting worse..

The food was great and not badly priced especially for the portion size you get. I definitely recommended the medditeranean although the buttery sauce that was on the fish and shellfish lacked a bit of seasoning and more herbs and would be nice if some bread was included with the meal. The mixed grill was also good. The service however was below par, I get that it was a Saturday and they were busy but service with a smile would not hurt especially if you're adding nearly £11 service charge onto the bill!

I've been here twice before, good food and tasty.But I so disappointed this time. The food was stale and expensive. Looks change new boss. There's nothing left. Maybe boss want save costs..👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻

We were here yesterday, the food was ok, while we were enjoying our meal a staff came to ask if I had finished my meal, I replied that we were still going, even though I had just ordered half a plate of oysters and ice cream for my child. About 10 minutes later the staff came again to ask if we had finished our meal, which made me feel confused and didn't feel like sitting there anymore even though our 2 plates of pasta were still there. I hope the restaurant changes their service, because I think the food is delicious but the service is not good

Seafood restaurant with great hospitality and prime location. However do note that seats with a seaview are limited (otherwise you get casted to a gloomy room on the lower floor like us). Fish and chips were alright. The fish was good but the chips could've been crispier. We also ordered the scallops in garlic butter - scallops were fresh and plump but under-seasoned. Overall this is worth visiting if you manage to get a good seat. If not, there are probably better places in Brighton for seafood.

We made a fly in visit for some oysters today having dined here before. Always super fresh food friendly staff but always really busy. Definitely pre book to avoid disappointment. Definitely make a trip to try some of the delicious sea food they prepare.

In a restaurant with no more than 30 tables, our order was forgotten for 20 minutes. And the funny thing is that no one even asked us what we were waiting for.

Only had a sausage sandwich and tea on route to the station. Not cheap, which is to be expected in such surroundings, but good enough. There are some interesting photographs on the walls as you descend to the toilets.

The location near the sea is perfect. But I’d like to point out that the Chinese translation Manu isn’t correct which makes the fried fish cooking way mixed with the way normally cooking beef. Reported the issue, but seems won’t correct. And also the dishes all come together without any orders. It’s quite shame that a famous restaurant but can not be enjoyed with the real local sever-ice.

The food is delicious, the customer service is very nice and reliable, they take care of the guests, I felt pampered.

I have visited this restaurant every few years since 1999 and have had very positive experiences. So much so that I wanted to bring visiting family along to experience the iconic fish and chips brighton style. Unfortunately, a lot has changed, which made it the last visit for me. The staff are, as a whole, very friendly, but there is a fine line between humour and being rude so the gentleman with the ponytail should take note. The portions have changed and are smalle. The cod fillets very, very thin, salad plate decoration a joke, muscles were tough and sauce unadventurous. It was very busy and I have no doubt that the restaurant will continue to be successful but it will be for its name and not the food... which is average.

I am allergic to dairy , requesting this with the waitress was no problem. When my food arrived by different waiter(owner) I asked if he could confirm if it was dairy free.To which he responded "Don't interrupt me Im talking", I asked again if he could confirm my food was dairy free? the response "this is not a food hospital". Rude, unprofessional, having eaten here many times and never experienced anything like this before.

Exactly what one would expect from a seafood-dining experience in Brighton. All the seafood dishes are light and fresh. The only downside for me was that chips were slightly on the greasy side, especially when they are intended to go with the mussel marinière which was already quite buttery on its own. This, however, is made better with a refreshing drink! Service is commendable; they make you feel at home. The ambience is perfect too; the restaurant is tastefully decorated with local flavours — the giant lobster wall piece in particular is a quirky choice.

Nice food friendly staff good place to eat

The worst breakfast in all uk. The toasted bread was soaked in water for some strange reason. The scramble eggs were made from powder eggs and tasted like feet dipped in Gorgonzolas cheese. The coffee was so cold that I had brain freeze. The owner looks so miserable behind the bar that I became myself very sad looking at him. The waitresses were very busy, one was making sure her nails were done properly and the other one was busy trying to get confrontational with customers. They maybe pros for regular service but I will suggest them to skip breakfast altogether, what they do at the moment is just embarrassing. Just another thing before I go , if you really decide to have breakfast in this establishment make sure you got a toilet near by because in about 15 minutes after you finished your breakfast you will need it.

The seafood is fresh It's next to the sea so the atmosphere is nice. I had seafood pasta and fish pie and it was very delicious.

The freshness and flavor of the dishes were outstanding, especially the scallops. The ambiance was perfect for a seaside meal, and the staff were welcoming and attentive.

Used to come here a lot as a kid and good to see that the quality hasn’t declined over the years

Great for a cooked breakfast, we always visit when staying in Brighton. Very popular lunchtime & evenings!
