Harry Ramsden's World Famous Fish & Chips in Brighton and Hove

Harry Ramsdens has gone down hill. The feel of the restaurant is basic, not like it used to be. The table wasn't cleaned properly, the cutlery was so-so. The young lad serving was actually very pleasant and trying his best. The food.....fish actually nice, but the chips were disgusting. Had a funny flavour, were definitely re-heats and were just not enjoyable at all. The prices were typical HR, but without the quality and style that Harry Ramsden was famous for. Very sad to see such a good brand in severe decline

Service was amazing. Ollie and Ronnie were amazing. Took care of us and insured that we had a very very good experience. Food was absolutely amazing as well. Given we had had a Bad experience at the Blackpool branch we were hoping this would be better and it really was. Ronnie and Ollie are to be commended.

We were given an afternoon tea with Prosecco as a gift. The whole experience was lovely. Easy to book, a very warm welcome with delicious food. First rate.

Surprisingly this was a very good fish and chips meal. Portion size was good, batter was fresh and crispy, fried in nice clean oil. Cod tasted fresh and juicy, well worth the money. Services was good too, friendly and professional, overall a great dinning experience.

Have fish and chips in a peaceful atmosphere, yet in the center. You can also take food with you, delivery in the next entrance.

We enjoyed a great brunch and would highlight the excellent service from Ollie who convinced us gherkins in batter would be a game changer. They were, much to my surprise. Good food, well served and a really nice relaxed atmosphere. Recommended.

A lovely meal, the service was special. Served by a lovely lady called Karina who couldn't do enough for us including checking and providing allergy book . Nice people make you want to return time and time again!

Coming from Yorkshire where this place ‘was’ an institution, this is safely the worst F&C’s I’ve ever had. 2 stars as the poor chap serving is doing his best. 2 years later have come back and what a change. Everything was perfect from the excellent Haddock, the chips were spot on and even the bread for the reqd chip sarnie was fresh. Well done the new team

Beautiful meal, fresh, hot and delicious. We had small meals, it was a generous size. A big tick for fish and chips at the seaside.

Was recommended to us by a friend. Definitely worth trying! Fish was excellent, served fresh. Chips are crispy and good to our liking. The staff are very attentive, friendly, and made sure to check on the customers if needed any assistance.

We visited this restaurant yesterday. The food was superb. The staff are very hard-working, friendly and welcoming. Our waitress was Ruby, who was lovely and so attentive in making sure we were happy with everything. I would highly recommend this restaurant & it is always our favourite place to eat when we visit Brighton.

We come from the home of Harry Ramsden's fish and chips in Guiseley, Yorkshire. The haddock fish and chips with Yorkshire tea served with a smile by Karina and Alfie and cooked by Subin were excellent! Up to our exacting Yorkshire standards !! Thank you !

I had a fish and chip tea, for 2 gift voucher for here. (£26.) Booked a table really easy online. It was very busy, and given a nice table in the window. The food was good, and plenty of it. Only down side was the voucher also states banana fritters and bread pudding with a caramel sauce, which we never received.

Excellent restaurant. It is located right in front of Palace Pier and has exquisite fish and chips, as well as a variety of other dishes that are also very good. The treatment from Karina and Ruby is great, always making sure that you don't miss anything and everything is fine, plus Karina speaks Spanish and that for me is a plus. We will repeat without a doubt

I had cod fish and chips. Simple and delicious. The mashed bean sauce was also good. Karina, who served us, was very friendly.　Window views are nice too!

We visited Brighton 2 weeks ago and we wanted to try Harry Ramsden's fish and chips 🐟🍟🍟🍟 We had haddock, chips and mushy peas, Cesar salad with fish gujons YUMMY 🤤, drinks and desserts . Everything was cooked and prepared to perfection, such a joy to find this gem in a beautiful afternoon ! Thank you !

Had the afternoon tea, nice food and great value. Great customer service. Food arrived quickly and they dealt well with dietary requirements and staff were very friendly.

The atmosphere has been great, the waitress Carina has been very friendly, she has been very attentive at all times. The food was good although too oily.

While the food was fantastic, the service was slow and the staff were not very cooperative. Still would reccomend to go, however.

It started OK with being shown to our table and given a menu. Waitress seemed surprised that 2 ladies over 60 could use the app. Order went through and when it asked when we wanted our tea with our meal, we selected after. The meal deal included Fish and Chips, pot of tea and a dessert. The tea arrived.....then eventually the fish and chips. The tea in the pot was very strong so I asked for a pot of hot water. The waiter arrived with another pot of strong tea. I have had better fish and chips, especially in Harry Ramsdens in 80s/90s, when the food and service were first class. We waited for our plates to be taken and ice cream to be served......we even asked for our ice cream .......and we are still waiting! Not worth the visit.

Had the afternoon tea which was absolutely disgusting. Never had anything so bad in all my life!! The so called battered sausage was just cheap and nasty sausage meat shaped and battered. The only edible food were the chips. About 10 between 2 people Avoid at all cost 🤮

We were group of 5 and we were happy with Ruby to gave us a superb service. Nice and has friendly approach.

Visited on Sunday 25th August.2024. We have a great meal the service received was second to none. Great food, friendly polite staff, quick service. Harry Ransdens In Brighton is very popular and this explains why..welll worth a visit and we will be back again on our next visit to Brighton..

Went here for a pre-booked sit down meal. Food was great and staff were very friendly. But the food just took too long to come out, the staff seemed stretched. A quick lunch turned into 1 hour 40m.

Fish and Chips are superb. Food was decent with drinks. Can't fault the food. The staff are super friendly. The only thing that's holding it back is the terrible service. Main food arrived 30 mins ish. The desert arrived 20 mins after we finished our meal. We were there for about an hour and a half. Which is terribly long. Wasted so much of our afternoon.

Firstly, they don’t provide nhs or student discount at the weekend. Secondly, we waited for 40 minutes for our food and we noticed no one in the restaurant was eating at all despite the waiter reassuring us that there was nothing wrong with the kitchen. Our food was okay. We got a free drink due to the wait which is nice but disappointing experience overall. Staff are lovely but communication with customers on waiting for food must be provided to manage expectations. We were only down for the day so wasted a lot of time and we were not able to do what we wanted for the rest of the day. Best of luck for the future, please improve.

Considering the weather which was blustery rainy day with choppy seas. I ordered the set menu for the over 60's with a cup of tea. The tea was lukewarm as I like a piping hot brew. The portions were adequate. The CHIPS were shrivelled and warm. The portion of cod was also warm. Just a reminder to the CHEF food should be served at an acceptable temperature 75 degrees or above. The baked beans was also warm. Why was that? The tartar sauce was OK! The sticky toffee pudding was served swimming in syrup which had to be drained. The overall experience was unacceptable, needs retraining.

We did have to wait a while for our food due to the restaurant being busy but it was worth the wait. The quality and taste of the food was outstanding. The staff were very friendly and provided great service and were very apologetic about the wait for the food. I would highly recommend getting fish and chips from here when in Brighton and you also have the added bonus of no seagulls stealing your chips!

I tried this place on the recommendation of a local resident who wanted me to experience the traditional fish and chips, which here is served with a side of mushy peas. Next door, there's also a more affordable takeaway version of the place. The venue is cozy, and the dishes met my expectations. The staff is friendly and attentive.

Bought an afternoon Tea for two voucher from Wowcher for £20. You need to book in advance online. We went to the one in Brighton. What an absolute bargain. The food was stunning freshly cooked, crispy and not swimming in oil with is a bonus. We had 2 brioche buns with salad and a mini piece of fried fish, 4 mini battered sausages, 2 fish cakes, 4 big onion rings, 4 Frickles ( battered fried gherkins) OMG these were stunning and a pile of chips, small pot of curry sauce and small pot of mushy peas. Dessert was banana fritters with caramel sauce and bread and butter pudding with custard. Also a choice of tea, coffee or juice. We were full to bursting when we left. The service was impeccable friend and attentive without being overbearing. Would highly recommend. Forgot to take photos of the desserts.

The price is affordable and reasonable, the greeting is enthusiastic and she tries her best to consider the customers. The waitress Karina who received and greeted us is very helpful, praise! 👍😊

Went for an afternoon fish and cheap tea, bought as a Christmas present for me. Chips were hard, like biting into a raw potato, 4 tiny battered sausages that looked squashed flat, battered gherkin, only one, sliced into four pieces and 2 buns with one piece of fish in each no bigger than the size of my thumb. The best part of the meal was the onion rings. Very disappointed and definitely won't be back.

Four tourists arrived in the city of Brighton for several days and settled nearby, 100 meters from this establishment. In the evening, tired from the road, we came here an hour before closing. If they had explained to us that they were closing in an hour, we would have rushed and made it within the specified time, we were hungry. But we were not even allowed to enter the hall, they stopped us and asked us to leave, since they were closing soon. You lost 4 guests for several days. We went to eat at a neighboring establishment, a little further, but we were always full! Thank you!

The fish and chips is good, been to many places and could compare. The fish is fresh and batter is light and crispy. The chips are good and well done, fried for longer as I like it more than pale chips. The tartar sauce could be improved. Service is friendly and fast.

Fish and chips ok, don’t bother with the cocktails - we had a pitcher of fizzy milk presented as pina colada with water glasses to drink from, service slow, disinterested staff, we book a table for 8 and got put on separate booths of 4. Really gone down hill in the last 3-4 years.

Food was ok, but service and attention was very poor. Mentioned to manager that toilet paper in ladies was low and yet an hour later nothing had been done and there was no paper. Deserts delivered, but mains not cleared. Tables sprayed to be cleaned, spraying over the tomato ketchup and other condiments. The town is very busy and yet this place is half empty. All very slack. Really sad!

Poor service and poor food. Had better last week in weatherspoons for less than half the price. All very dry. Very disappointing.

Came here cos the folks want simple food not far from hotel. Not prawn cocktail. No real service at all and food unbelievably slow in a quiet restaurant. Luckily we ordered a bottle of wine cos we had drunk it before the food

Karina was a fab hostess, very friendly, polite and welcoming. Made us feel so at home, so much so that we would come back here anytime we are in Brighton again.

Portions were a bit smaller then I thought that they would be. The food was nice and would go back would order a large next time. Service was good, but they were so busy it took forever to waited on. They need more staff on the floor.

Brighton great location opposite pier, food took 45 mins to arrive when restaurant only one third full so very slow. My pie and mash excellent, however friends chips looked like the scraps....Fish and chips portions seem to have shrunk since last visit a year ago, a bit disappointed

It was the first time i had been to this restaurant. The restaurant is air conditioned so it was a relief to sit in a cool place on a scorching summers day. The meal was tasty (I had the 60+ meal which included cod and chips, tea or coffee, plus a desert, all for £10.99). I added a side of baked beans for £1. A really good deal - It was served quickly too. The waiters were lovely and all in all it was a delightful experience. Will definitely be going again pretty soon.

Harry ramsdens Brighton has gone down ! I had to call waiter to get service after waiting 15 minutes. The fish was more batter then fish ! No waiter attended me for my entire meal to see if I needed anything. The floor was dirty with bits of batter on the floor … I will not got back !

The fish and chips themselves were tasty so I would definitely recommend the ‘famous’ haddock meal. As for the chicken burger, I would say it’s sub par and the fries as well were quite average. Generally the sides were pretty good although small in quantity. The seating and service was decent, so if you’re just looking for a casual place mainly for fish and chips I would say this is the place!

We had afternoon tea that had been given as a Christmas present. A good amount of delicious food but not overwhelming - we left happily full.

Great location just opposite the famous Brighton pier. The quintessential British dish, fish and chips is a must when visiting the seaside and Harry Ramsden’s have been doing it for decades around the country. Sure you may have a local chippy that’s “the best in the country” but when you’re out and about and craving crispy batter and proper chunky chippy chips you could do a lot worse that HR’s. The menu has got enough variety to appeal to most tastes (unless you’re looking for gourmet, line caught, tuna friendly, organic free range VIP fish and chips). Portions are a good size so you get value for money and everything we had was tasty and cooked fresh (no reheated/refried chips here). The battered sausages were yummy and all the chips were as they should be. Everything was reasonably priced and the service was attentive but not intrusive.

The quality of food and portion sizes are worsening, a noticeable deterioration in service and quality.

Not impressed at all, we sat in and had a meal. left a good third of the portion of chips as they had "potatoe eyes" and black mark's on them also a couple of them were green 🤮🤮. Had a side of battered pickles which was nice. The whole meal came to £30, waste of money. The two blokes on duty never asked if everything was ok. Definitely wouldn't recommend anyone to go. Just a further update, after Harry Ramsden's made a comment on my review for me to contact them, which I did twice 🤯 and guess what they haven't replied at all. Please be warned Harry Ramsden's doesn't care about customer reviews and couldn't care less if your food etc is rubbish. But I know people read reviews and do care. .

The food very fresh and Katrina was very lovely and helpful at all times! The HADDOCK and the sharing platter were absolutely worth it! They do have discounts for NHS and Students.
