Just dropped in for a drink with friends. Always a nice pub 👍

Popped in here after work with a colleague for a quick bite. Ambience spot on, staff very friendly and super helpful. Food was delicious and very reasonably priced.

Went yesterday (marathon day). Booked a table in advance. As soon as we got there were told had to leave within 2 hours (fine and understandable). Then got told this again by person taking drinks order and then again by person who took us to our table originally who also said we needed to order food ASAP - we'd been sat down for 10 mins and had already ordered drinks. They then took 20-30 mins to bring drinks (a couple of beers and apple juice) - not sure why we had to rush when they were in no hurry! Food was OK. Maybe would have ordered desserts (had 45 mins left on table) but decided not to due to service and feeling rushed.

Lovely bar hidden away. It's bigger than it looks and is like an Aladdin's cave. Great service, good atmosphere and music, but pricey. (£21.90 for two glasses of wine.) The main reason for four and not five stars is that the limited cocktails they do are canned! I'm sure they could make them fresh but considering they're £9 each I think it's very unreasonable to charge that price. Will go back, though. Just not when in a cocktail mood!

We had dinner here on Sunday evening, which we really enjoyed! Had Sunday Roast, Sirloin of beef with Yorkshire pudding that was so big and looked like a mushroom! Awesome! Never had it before, but the three of us had a delicious meal

Visited with a group of friends for Sunday lunch. At £20 for a roast maybe my expectations were set high as I was a little underwhelmed. A lovely slice of rare beef and nice to be asked by the server our preference. They handled all the orders efficiently and cheerily. The veg was where it fell short. Roast carrot limp and over done, roast potatoes also over roasted and were largely a shell of porato. Yorkshire too was just completely crunchy that fractured when cut. The veg was in a pile under the meat and YP which made them indistinguishable once you started cutting in. None of it bad enough to warrent a complaint but not good enough to entice me back with other friends. It looks like they are doing something right as it was packed which may explain why, in my opinion, it didn't hit the mark the price warrented.

Lovely Italianate garden to while away a summer evening. The food sounds good but is a bit overpriced for the quality. They have a decent beer selection though and friendly service.

Very busy Sunday lunch. We got the last table for 'second sitting' at 2:30pm. Service was good but it was difficult for them to keep up with so many covers. Food was very good. Atmosphere a bit loud and squashed in.

The Sunday roast was amazing. I had the vegetarian Wellington, which was delicious, the biggest Yorkshire pudding, which was also delicious and the vegetables were done to perfection. They were very very busy and we had quite a long wait so they gave all 3 of us free desserts because of our wait time which were also amazing. Very friendly service too

Went in to grab a drink before closing and the staff was kind and caring. They had an extensive menu of local ciders in stock and were super informative about the selection. The indoor decor is cozy and well maintained however the seating outback is breathtaking even in an English winter.

Probably one of the worst burgers I have ever had. The bun was so hard it was almost inedible and the burger was burnt. Will not be returning for food! Nice staff and pleasant for a drink but avoid the menu!

Great pub, great outside area which is great in Summer or Winter (has heaters). Little more expensive than other pubs in the area but I think its worth the bit extra.

Very tasty and good amount of food for a Christmas dinner. Staff were a bit overly attentive but we only had a certain amount of time so a bit understanding.

The pub itself has a nice atmosphere but nothing special to be honest. The food we had for our Christmas party was average. Drinks are reasonable priced. WiFi connection is really poor in the back garden area. Toilets are tiny but clean.

Pub is a lot bigger than it looks like from the outside ! It has a really nice garden in the back with heatlamps and a sheltered area alowing you to enjoy the outside area even if its colder. The staff was very warm and welcoming. I had a burger with chips which was perfectly cooked ! Would absolutely recommend it.

Terrible, over priced food and stingy portions

I have loved this pub for over a decade and have lived on the same street for the past 7 years - it’s my local, and I have brought dozens of people here. Unfortunately the hospitality seems to have taken a turn for the worst. I queried the price of a Shandy, as it was the same as a pint of bitter. Even though the manager conceded that a pint of lemonade would be less than a pint of bitter, she absolutely wasn’t budging. I can see now that it’s an issue elsewhere, so I will watch out for that, and I don’t like to carry resentment - it’s bad for our health. But what I can’t shake off is the fact that I just don’t want to go back there now - the righteousness and bullishness and lack of grace of my hostess, has tainted what used to be a feeling of warmth and welcome. I wasn’t going to leave a review but then I read other recent reviews about staff, and thought, yeah! Watch out everyone! The food is good. The setting is lovely, but please, management treat us as equals and with respect and then we might want to come back.

Ordered two meats, cheese board, Very small portions, so when the ham turned up with more fat then meat , we sent it back. Another island ham Brusello Think spellt wrong, sorry, was dried out. Honestly, for what they charge, disappointed!!

Been coming here now since moving to Hove two years ago. The food is usually of a good quality (the fish and chips are always good). There is a nice garden to sit out in the warmer months. The one HUGE negative in this place, which impacts on us using the bar more is the manager. She should NOT be this position. She is terse, miserable, rude and abrupt in her manner. Everyone you talk to in Hove knows who you refer to when you talk about Hove Place. Unfortunately, of late the staff members seem to 'feed off' her negative miserable vibes; leading to sometimes having poor, sloppy, substandard service. If the owner could somehow remove this negative manager from the place, they could really make this bar the best in Hove.

Great little pub. Definitely worth going for the Sunday roast, it's the standout for food (although the chicken nuggets were particularly lush, as are the chunky chips).

Came here for a Sunday Roast and was not disappointed. The Yorkshire puddings were absolutely huge! They benefit from a gorgeous outside space which is lovely when the sun's out, and the place has a really nice atmosphere in general. Been back a few times just for drinks but didn't hesitate to bring family here for dinner when they were down to visit.

Lovely garden, easily accessed by pushchairs (only one step) and dog friendly. We were lucky to discover the pub on a walkabout Saturday, then returned Sunday evening for dinner. The food was excellent, and the staff were lovely - they also had good knowledge of allergens and were able to recommend gluten-free options for me from the menu. We each had a Sunday roast; I had lamb and my partner had pork. Both were delicious and the meat cooked and seasoned perfectly, to the point where it would melt in your mouth.

Great place for Sunday lunch sitting outside in the back garden, assuming fine weather. Substantial roast with lashings of gravy. What's not to like. Also sampled the fish finger sandwich. Satisfying

Great little spot, especially in the garden on a sunny day. Had food here once and it was a great menu and presentation surpassed my expectations. Would recommend at very least to come in for a beer, I believe they do cocktails also (I had a bloody Mary and it was basic at best).

Lovely pub in Hove and been loads of times but we visited last week and they were extremely busy but the owner and some of the staff we're extremely ruuuuuuude. Don't be put off by this, great pub and only writing this so the owner reads it and may be changes her attitude to paying customers.

The inside and outside area are nicely decorated and the food was god. I had the halloumi burger with chips, it was really good.

What used to be a favourite place, prices too high for the quality of food. Handed out. The only good thing is the nice garden, but now I hear you can't just go for drinks. Their loss!

We popped in on our way to a concert, it was very busy understandably but we managed to get a seat. We decided to stay for a Sunday lunch. The meat was nice but the Yorkshire was totally overdone, and the roast potatoes were rock solid! We feel the food had been sitting on the side all day. Would not order again

Food was good, but for a two hour sitting, it took over 20 minutes for the service staff to even get to the table.

Management said they couldn’t be responsible for what the kitchen sent out 😂 The kitchen were definitely having a laugh sending out 3 skinny asparagus with a blob of cream cheese and 3 halves of radish for £10 A slice of French bread with hummus and courgette on it £10 - genius. It has to taste exceptionally good if you’re charging that for that and sadly it was just plain. We all needed to go home and cook dinner after footing a really large bill. Such a shame as the garden is really pretty - maybe just go for a drink.

Objective was to try the local brew from Harveys and we ended up here. Lovely pub hidden away from plain sight. Highlight is the garden at back at the back of the pub. the lady at the bar was a bit grumpy but she was swift and courteous and the taste of the drink from the local brewery made it a worthwhile experience. I heard the food is good too (didnt try myself, but it was smelling good). Recommended

Had a vegan roast dinner in The Hove and it was fabulous. The roast potatoes were excellent and freshly cooked (no frozen ones in here) tasty vegan wellington with all the trimmings. Beautiful vegan chocolate tart for dessert. The food was worth every penny. The waitress however was so lovely. She knew her menu, she was helpful and funny. I wanted to ask her to join us for lunch. We will be returning to The Hove in the future for sure.

I’ve been many times in the past and the food has always been nice for a bistro pub but I haven’t been now for a while and this time the food was awful and expensive to boot. I had a hallumi burger which consisted of one rather thin slice of hallumi a bit of lettuce in a stale dry brioche bun, the chips were ok but not many, my friend had a small piece of thickly battered fish oozing oil, chips again were nice. At just short of £19 each meal I would have expected a lot better

Lovely seating areas outside. The staff were quite nice, the food how ever was awful. I ordered the roast beef dinner, I asked for the beef to be well done, but it was bloody and chewy. The 2 roast potatoes that was put on the plate were so dry!! And so hard to eat. The Yorkshire was hard and cold. Small amount of gravy. Paid £20 for it and didn't eat a single thing apart from a carrot.

Thank you for such a fabulous, relaxed and chilled Friday dinner! We booked an area for 20 of us and had such a great time! We were warmly welcomed into the pub and were given lots of attention but i just found everything was so easy and chilled! I couldn't believe it... maybe i need to move to Brighton, but normally with that number, the pub is rushing you to put orders in but there was none of that at all! The meals all came out together and everyone had such a lovely meal and time. We must have drunk most of the Ultimate Provence Rose (sorry about that :-) It was my 2nd time there and i'll definitely be back!

Great pub. Excellent beer (Harvey's), superb food & service, super garden + a great location (5 mins walk from cricket ground). It's got everything going for it.

Great garden for a sunny weekend drink. Didn’t book a table and was lucky to walk straight in and find one. The table ordered steak burgers, which the staff were happy to exchange as it was too rare for my liking. I gave 4 stars as it’s quite pricey and there wasn’t any music/ atmosphere.

We held a wake for my mother in Hove Place ~25 people. They were excellent throughout the organisation, set aside an area of the pub for us and delivered an excellent buffet. Friendly staff. Much appreciated - thanks.

7 of us for Sunday lunch. I had roast beef and 6 had sous vide lamb. All looked the same and were inedible. Old overcooked roast potatoes. Side vide looked like raw rolled lamb not sous vide! Manager on holiday and while staff were sweet no one seemed aware of anything and chef said it was how it is meant to be. Not to be repeated!

I gave Hove Place a 5* rating not because of the quality and extent of the menu but because of the welcoming atmosphere and the quality of the food produced. Spent a great Friday evening.

Roast was nice, pork and beef are good. Vegs not to the same level, but fine. The service was poor. 2hr slot are more than enough for eating, but having the waiter to remind you about leaving the table every 15 minutes is a bit too much and unnecessary. We had to leave by 2.45. Ordered the ice creams for the kids (3 kids - 1 scoop of ice cream each) at 2pm. It took half hr to get those. And in the meantime, while waiting, had 2 waitresses keep reminding of leaving the table at 2.45. If the service is very slow, it's not customer fault.

Absolutely amazing roast dinner on Easter Sunday. Staff were brilliant, attentive and friendly.

Been going to Hove place for 15 years give or take and have always liked it but this weekend a very rude bar supervisor put me off ever going back. I ordered a vodka Coke zero. Happened to notice the coke zero was put of date so I pointed out. Only to be met with a rude and unpleasant response. He couldn't have cared less. No food or drink should be sold on the premises that's out of date and no amount of rudeness will make it okay. Dreadful experience at what is usually a delightful little gem in Hove.

Great local pub, top end but good service and nice food. Burgers are particularly good, and the beer garden is nice when the sun's out. Poor mobile signal but free WiFi.

Visited for a Sunday roast. The roast was decent and the service was fine. I would say a little bit pricey for what it is (you can get a much better roast for the same price in London). The restaurant setting is lovely and it has a very good atmosphere, and a good menu with lots of options and drinks. I did feel a little bit rushed as we had our table for 2 hours, were reminded of it several times and were told 30 mins into our booking that we only had an hour left (they needed it back ‘a bit before’ the 2 hour slot). Everything was fine timing wise it was just annoying being reminded so often.

We visited for lunch on a cold dreary Saturday. Very friendly staff and a dog friendly pub as well! The food was great (especially the cheeseboard) and the dog was very happy with her treats.

Been to this pub a couple of times before and enjoyed it. Sadly this visit was marred by poor customer service by the manager who made a misunderstanding about timings all my fault. She then proceeded to complain about me behind the open bar which my daughter overheard. Massively unprofessional and spoiled what was otherwise a nice afternoon with friends.

A very nice layout inside, but noisy when it gets busy. The halloumi burger was disgusting with too much tomato sauce and pickle and the halloumi was coated in breadcrumbs which seems unnecessary when it's served in a bun. The fish and chips were ok.

Was visiting area and had heard Hove Place was good for Sunday lunch. Bookjng for 12.30 and on entering place didn't look too busy. Staff were friendly. Choice of meal was roast beef. Beef was good. Roast potatoes, hard and on the cool side. Yorkshire pudding very large, excessive I would say, perhaps to detract from the disappointing veg and lack of gravy to go with the batter. A small jug of gravy wouldn't go amiss. Restaurant became busy so service slowed considerably considering empty tables on arrival. Perhaps it was a bad day @@but Hove Place just didn't live up to expectations.

We came here for our work Christmas do and we all had a fabulous time. The food was amazing, the drinks are very well priced and we even had a Carol group come inside and sing to us?! Great place, definitely recommend.

Ah Christmas day dinner what a treat 😳 NO AFRAID NOT 😕. Canapé mediocre at best . starters disappointing seemed like leftovers, not alone in my thoughts as spoke to other people who agreed , main course was a big let down fish so overcooked couldn't get it off the bone , OK it was replaced and was nice second time around, DESSERT was OK I think the kitchen needs to go back to basics and learn about timings and basic cooking skills. We were also give a cast iron pot of root vegetables with mains first time, oh my 😒 they must have been kept warm and put in oven as service went along, as it was Xmas day I was polite and didn't want to upset front of house staff, ordinarily I would have really kicked off, I do understand the organisation of these special days and events as I've been a chef for 40 years plus but I'm embarrassed for the kitchen staff who thought it was acceptable to serve this food? And a cheek to think it's OK to charge £135 for the privalige

I'd never been to Hove Place before, so had no idea what to expect. It was lovely! I met a group of Celebrant friends there for a pre Christmas drink, and it was cosy, warm and wood pannelled where we sat, a complete surprise (in a good way) it wasn't what I'd expected from the outside!
