Great service. Grace was lovely. She was very sweet and helpful and really friendly. Food was good, you get what you pay for.

My wife and I popped out for a £6 carvery, with a special voucher, on Bonfire Night. Lovely meal, with great service from Grace.

Great atmosphere great food and value . Have visited at different times of year and always enjoyed food and drinks here . Staff always friendly and very helpful too . All family enjoy it here . Table for 4 or 8 no problem . Thank you .

AVOID… shockingly bad. Rude, mentally vacant staff. Bereft of any customer skills once they have taken your money. Noticed how dirty and tired it is. Borderline squaler.

Lovely carvery and evening with family

I used to love the saltdean tavern it's really gone downhill since I was a kid I came with my partner about 2 months ago for a breakfast thr toast was cold and burnt, sausages were burnt just wasn't a great meal! We thought we would give it another try but this time we came for a roast dinner and safe to say I will be finding somewhere els to eat from now on staff when we arrived here moody and unhappy chef was unhappy and didn't Evan smile, was only carrots and peas for the vegetables that isn't a roast! The potatoes were vile and tasted frozen and rubbery so we didn't eat them thr only thing that tasted gorgeous was the gammon meat it was beautiful I usually don't leave bad reviews but was really disappointed with this service

Enjoyed our family carvery, Jasmin was our server doing a great job, very attentive, she was working on her own mostly, so we had to clear our table before sitting, but for the price overall a nice experience. We had to ask for all the sauces to be refilled, they definitely seemed short staffed. Thanks to Jasmin she made it a nice evening. Roasties could be crispier !

Not a nice experience. We had booked this carvery as the one at Withdean was closed. Arrived at 6pm welcomed and taken to our table. Ordered our food and drinks. The pizza arrived after ten minutes and was enjoyed by our son however the carving was a massive disappointment. The meat was fine but the vegetables were terrible especially the potatoes which were warm and chewy. Peas were dry and can’t comment on the cauliflower as the dish was empty. With only a few in the restaurant and at 6pm I would have thought that they would have plenty of vegetables. This was not like our previous visits. The person in front of me scooped out the remaining beef gravy so it was just an empty pan left. The staff ware friendly but the food was a let down.

Three of us went at 6pm. The staff were nice and welcoming. One pizza ordered and two traditional carvery’s. The pizza was nice and the Turkey and Gammon were fine however the vegetables were horrible. Potatoes looked nice however they were very chewy and either reheated of cooked and left standing. Peas and carrots were dry and warm. The meat gravy I had to scoop the last portion out of the pot which left it empty for the next person. Although the Yorkshire pudding looked good it was soft like a pancake. We visited this one as the carvery at Withdean is closed at the moment. We will not return and sooner wait for Withdean to reopen or go to The Stonehouse at Shoreham which is very good.

The staff were SO lovely and friendly, nothing was too much for them and the food was pretty yummy. Beautiful potatoes and beautiful meat. Have been to a few different carveries and only came to this one because the one we usually go to was closed but this might become our favourite

Very low moral about the staff and roast potatoes where dead even fresh ones cooked to death !! The vibe was not great and Guinness tasted awful !! I’ll try again in 10 years !! Note to big managers pay your staff more and improve moral happy staff = happy customers!!

Terrible told the waitress potatoes were horrible and she went do I want some more ? Customer service? Thats a joke never eating again worst food peacehaven is much better . Surely you tell someone the food isn't up to scratch they should apologise and tell the chef due to other people complaining ?

The carvery may be simple, but it comes at a simple price. As someone who usually prefers fine dining, I always make sure to take my grandparents here, as they absolutely love it. Usually the food is hot and fresh, and I always leave after eating a few kilos of veg. Grace and Matt were lovely and attentive, the beef was particularly tender. Of course it’s no five star restaurant, but you’re not paying a five star price!

My friend and myself visited for breakfast and we were thoroughly impressed by the choice of breakfast items and refill coffee all for a very reasonable price.The staff were friendly and helpful.. On the down side the car park was littered with rubbish and the interior of the pub was looking very tatty with peeling wallpaper and general paintwork looking shabby.. Could do with a facelift!

The Carvery was so dry and the 2 slices of beef I was given was so full of fat felt like I had chewing gum in my mouth seemed to me the chef who served me really didn't care about customer service. best thing about it was the dessert I would probably try again to get a better experience.

nice little pub and great value roast

Food was average for Stonehouse carvery. Been to many before. Service was the worst I've ever had waited 20 minutes for plates to be removed before our desserts, when it was wasn't that busy. Desserts were poor, rock hard pudding after being microwaved. Wouldn't return again.

We were made to leave today halfway through our meal due to a whole bunch of travellers disturbing the peace and police rudely asked us to leave immediately. We were there for my Grandads 70th birthday. A quiet family meal. It was so loud the time we did have there and then we were forcibly removed! I’d appreciate a refund!

Well the kids voted to come here ! , not my choice it was local and did set 2 course menu £11;49 . Tried using the order at table ap useless , use the staff . The place looks really sad , uncared for with peeling wall paper , sticky tables and menu flaking paint 😟 We ordered the carvery but should have checked the meats first a sad turkey no meat small piece of beef , and gammon , told no more freshly cooked meats would be served it was 6.30pm !!. Food was ok , unlimited ice cream machine was the real reason the kids wanted to come . Such a shame ,prime location with lots of potential sadly they don’t have clue . We won’t be returning.

I have been going to Saltdean tavern for a few years and I’ve always had a good experience. The prices are fair, the offers are good and the food, especially the Beyond burger is delicious and the staff are professional and friendly. There are also a decent amount of options for vegetarians and vegans.

Had a nice carvery with a friend. Was served by a lady named grace. She's very good at her job nice welcome and friendly. She's very attentive and let us know that their was groups booked and where the tables we were able to sit were. Processed our orders without any fuss. Checked and made sure all was good when passing the table. I hope that she's is not over looked for her service she provided. Best service I've had from a pub/restaurant in some time And looking at other reviews too she's a very good asset towards the business. Overall the night had a nice chilled atmosphere, the food was lovely. Thank you for your service again Grace, keep doing what you're doing. Will be back again soon.

The food was terrible. The vegetables had no taste. The staff were rude when my partner asked for a clean plate as there was still dried-up food on the supposedly clean plate. The next plate was also the same. The floor by my chair had food ground into the carpet.

Always nice and friendly staff both at the bar and carvery deck. Usually served by Jade/Grace at the bar. The attached car park is always full but inside is not, so don't be deceived even on a Sunday! (this is due to the beach and lido next door as it's a public car park not the pubs). On sunday main seating might be reserved/full but the bar/outside usually has seating available. Food is quite good for low price, the only issue is the roast potatoes can be a hit or miss as quality is not consistent. (Might be crispy dark one day, soft another, small or large.) However the rest of the food (meats, usual beef, turkey gammon, Sunday pork, veg carrots, beans, peas, cauliflower cheese, stuffing) always good and consistent. If anything running low (including gravy or sauces) just ask the carvery or any staff and it will normally be out in two mins with a fresh batch.

As somebody who frequents the Saltdean Tavern on a semi regular basis, I have had the opportunity to repeatedly meet much of the staff. Although I would say all the staff are pleasant and professional; there are two members of the service team who I have found particularly helpful and deserve a positive appraisal. They are Matt and Grace. I find them both to be very pleasant, not only with myself, but all the diners. They are friendly and helpful to a spectrum of people, of all age groups. They seem to be able to make light of occasional mishaps and miscommunication from let's say 'cantankerous' customers, with nothing seemingly to be a bother to them - I don't how they keep so patient and professional. Both Matt and Grace are foundational in keeping The Saltdean Tavern as an attractive place to enjoy one's meal.

Biased due to nostalgic memories, but its a very solid meetup spot for friends and drinks. Food is usually very competant, but sometimes can be quite slow. Service - the people are nice and approachable. Atmosphere is good. Seems to have an entire empty space directly attached to it though, which is odd?

I visit at least once a year when I visit my family in Saltdean. Food has always been good (particularly the Sunday breakfast), and atmosphere is always friendly. Well worth a visit.
