The Royal Sovereign in Brighton and Hove

Stopped in here for a drink on Friday evening with a couple of friends. Great drinks selections. Double up offers on spirits and staff were really fun and friendly. It was surprisingly quiet for a Friday night and I think this was due to some weird rule being enforced by the door staff. When we arrived there was a group of 6 or 7 women speaking to the bouncer who was telling them they couldn't come In due to being too big a group. They in no way looked like trouble and as I say the pub was pretty empty and had plenty of seats available so this seemed odd. Surely that's a judgement call situation which in this case was a pretty poor one IMO. In this economy I'm surprised that Brighton pubs are able to turn away groups of paying customers at 8pm on a Friday night. I think had there been a bit more of a vibe in there we would have stayed longer but instead we had one and moved on. Time to review your door policy I think guys as it's affecting your revenue

Had childs portion roast dinner today and have to say it was prob one worst roast dinners I've ever had .. I roast potatoe.. that was rock hard almost raw . Rock hard carrots . Beef that was full of fat . Truly awful .

@haliscobirriabrothers has moved in at the sovereign and they are a must visit. Tacos but not as you know it. The deep fried cheesy birria goodness is out of this world and the dunkin gravy is a revelation but if like me you need too end spice then ask for the hot sauce ….

Amazing Mexican food, so delicious and I’ll bring my friends here when they visit Brighton everytime!

Great hidden garden and filling portions, great atmosphere, and friendly faces, bartender knew what was good and very gave great recommendations. Had amazing Mexican food and great tacos 🌮 lots of vegan and gluten-free options and served at the table by the chef.

Such a lovely place with amazing mexican food, we had the pulled pork loaded fries with my partner and we couldn't get enough! Very large portions, all gluten-free and everything was served by the chef, such a funny guy! The staff was very friendly, and we got here in time for happy hour! We will be coming back for sure, 10/10!!!

Buena selección de cervezas en el grifo, El jardín está muy bien hecho y un montón de asientos para una zona tan pequeña. Las lámparas calefactadas para noches frías son una comodidad bienvenida. La comida fue suministrada por Halisco y era excelente. Recomendaría los tacos con una guarnición de pimientos padrón.

Came here for lunch recently, was absolutely amazing! Cheesy, meaty Mexican at its best! Good portion sizes for the prices and quick service too!

The food is unbelievable! So rich and tasty, especially the short rib birria tacos and the sweet potato fries and delicious and a big portion. Probably the best pub food in town!!! The bar and kitchen staff are also top notch.

Came in for a quiet drink and was swayed to have a bite by the delicious Mexican food menu on offer, Tacos were so nice and juicy and the birra dip was amazing, very reasonably priced and waiting time was minimal, will be coming back to eat with friends!

Good one, this one. Decent beer garden with more electrical outputs than Curry's so you can charge all your nonsense. Different and very pleasant range of IPAs.

Very fun food experience, customisable Birria menu from a local Mexican Restaurant which is almost too good! Highly recommend the pub is lovely, plenty of good drinking options and a secret suntrap garden ! :)

It's Friday early so don't expect a brilliant atmosphere in any pub. Nice pub and friendly staff BUT bloody cold in there

Well kept cask ale. Friendly welcoming staff. Niamh especially. Was a quiz night when we visited, which was very entertaining. Can't comment on the food, but smelt lovely.

It's a really nice atmosfere inside and outside, nice selection of beers with often live music.

Wowza!!! Birrailiant! Birri birri birri… Oi Oi Oi!!! Halisco (Mexican next door) has taken over the kitchen and it’s incredible! Great pub vibes with Mexican cuisine, what more could you want. Birria tacos, corn ribs and fried jalapeños were our top picks 👌🏽 Ahhhhhreeeebaaaaaaaaaa 🇲🇽

Watch out! I bought a round in there just after 7pm 10/1/24. First round around £25 second round (different lady, did not show me the amount on screen) £44, third round (First Lady) around £25! £44 for three singles and two pints! Feeling mugged!

Decent pub but did not have mulled wine or cider as billed. If you don't have it, sot advertise it!

Very cozy and friendly, unfortunately no original pub food

Didn't try the food, but found the pub atmosphere very warm and friendly - from both staff and regulars. Definitely a local vibe here, expect I'll be back even though I only have a few days here. Just a good, casual pub.

Pasamos a tomar unas cervezas después de cenar en Cibo y disfrutamos de la fabulosa Naomi Moon que estaba interpretando algunos covers acústicos selectos. El RS es en gran medida un pub tradicional y parece tener todas las bases cubiertas con un alto nivel. Yo diría que la edad promedio de un cliente el sábado por la noche que visitamos era de 35 años y eso no es algo malo. Dos pintas de Pravha llegaron a £ 12. 60, así que no es barato, pero tampoco una estafa. En resumen, una experiencia que vale la pena.

Der Pub liegt in der Nähe der Seafront und gehört wohl zu einem Hotel. Das angebotene Essen ist thailändisch, passt aber gut in den Pub. Und es ist sehr lecker. Vorneweg zum Knabbern gab es den Braised Pork Belly - gut gewürzt, kross und toll zum Bier. Danach das Red Curry with Duck, das leicht scharf war und gut gewürzt. Im Pub war am Abend Live-Musik und es war eine tolle Stimmung. Service und Preis sind völlig in Ordnung.

Went to watch the Euros and got kicked out because my friend's valid ID was "different". The ID was a genuine provisional license. This is upsetting.

Atmosphere was lovely with live music, the drinks were nice and we were served quickly. Bar staff did mix up one of our orders but it was an easy mistake. Only real complaint is that it's a bit expensive!

The worst food I ever had. I never leave negative reviews but this time I couldn’t help it. Honestly, I don’t understand how it’s possible to serve this kind of food. The burger was like a Tesco burger, my partner had Chicken roast, which was very close to the chicken served at the hospital and also the brownie was like a dry cake without taste (how is this possible for a dessert?!). The place was nice and the staff very kind and helpful, but guys, no, it’s not ok selling food like that. Yes, it’s a pub, but if you serve food, it can’t be like this.

A very welcoming feel pub, just off one of the main shopping streets, in amongst, what I would class the far east quarter for food. The beer was good and went down a treat. The evening we went there was live music, Which wasn't banging out the sound, you could still talk. Would go back there again.

They do amazing pad Thai and I visit it very often!

Would not return due to one barmaid. Visited yesterday evening to get together with the family, who we all haven’t seen together in a long time and thought coming to this pub would be a good. However one rude barmaid (short haired brunette no glasses black T-shirt and blue jeans, unfortunately did not get her name) was extremely rude to all that brought drinks within our group of 14. She was constantly asking for ID even though we had been checked at the door by the wonderful door lady. I understand that the bar needs to check to ensure that all are over age at the public house. However the way in which she went about it felt like we were under investigation by the police each time we ordered a round asking each drink orders who this was for and then asking them to come to the bar to show ID. She also mentions check 25 was easily visible behind the bar for all to see however after spending over 4 hours at the pub the poster was not visible for all to see. Yes it was on the lanyard however she had to turn hers around each time to check out ID to show this. Her attitude was poor and disrespectful to all that she served. We will not return whilst she is there... All other barman and women apologised for her behaviour as we were served so clearly they are aware of it. Shame as the rest of the evening was wonderful apart from this bar lady. Will not be returning......

My go to for a quiet drink in Brighton during the day and a busy friendly pub in the evening with live music and good food. Lovely staff. Plenty of space, inside and out.

Nice just off the centre grid pub. Always pleasant service, good beer range if a little too Molson Coors centric for my taste but locals including 360 makes up for it.

Really great pub with a gorgeous real fire. We visited on Boxing Day and enjoyed a delicious curry each. The kitchen were happy to prepare my yellow vegetable curry without chilli as I cannot have anything spicy. The kitchen were also very happy to accommodate vegan options. And the prices are good, too! The staff are very friendly and astute when it comes to 'Challenge 25' which is refreshing as so many places seem to serve seemingly 16 year olds unchallenged! Great selection of ales, wines and spirits with happy hour from 5-7pm Monday to Friday. We highly recommend and will be visiting again.

On my recent visit I found this place a little cold (not just the temperature). Staff feel like they dont want to be there or maybe it's the embarrassment of having to ask for £6.70 for a pint of Guinness? So many alternative stouts availabe localy at a more accessible price.

A lovely pub with a warm welcome. It's selling point for us is the Thai food served. No typical pub food here but delicious light tasty food ideal for lunch. Try ib the summer when the garden oasis is open such a little out of the way haunt. It is worth a try. Good value. Choice of 3 light dishes for £11.

First time visiting will definitely go again.

We fancied a Sunday lunch went there. £17 for some roast beef that was impossible to cut because it was practically raw. The presentation was disgusting: the raw beef twirled around a roast potato.The 3 roast potatoes weren't even roast potatoes...I don't know what they were, but they were hard. The gravy tasted of curry, which I hate. I ate one mouthful then walked out. Not an experience to be repeated.

Had a three day visit to Brighton and stumbled on this pub. From the outside it’s a traditional English pub, but the twist is that it serves great Thai food. They offer a lunch time menu for £6.99 which includes a starter and a main. The food and service is great. They also welcome pets. A big recommend for anyone visiting Brighton.

Spent 3 nights in brighton and spent all 3 nights in the Royal sovereign. Didn't eat so can't comment on food. Had a different singer each night and all three singers were great. Lots of people dancing and atmosphere was terrific. No trouble, just people having a great time. Bar staff were very attentive. Wished my local was this one! Will definitely be back next time we are in brighton. Thank you Royal sovereign for a great time.

Cheeky 0% bottled beer just before close on sunday, sat in beer/smoking out back.. Entrance is up few steps so may cause issue for some. Staff friendly, beer garden lively and well maintained. Can't comment/rate food as it was 30mins before closing on sunday & the bar man was good enough to let us grab round of drink..👍

Quirky pub just off the seafront in Brighton, Nice outdoor area and excellent Thai food for lunch at a very good price. Quiet at lunch time so good for business conversations.

The pork roast was disappointing _ the piece of meat was very small and the cracking was deep fried and tasted of old oil. The vegetables were boiled rather than roasted. The staff were friendly though , it's just a shame about the food!
