I loved this cute place with mismatched tea cups. the consistency and taste of cakes were a very pleasant change from all those dry and sugary victoria sponge cakes that has taken over the country.

I had the loveliest experience at Taj's Tea Parlour. The music, service, choice of teas and most of all the homemade cakes were outstanding. Cannot recommend it highly enough!

I love popping into Tajs tea parlour regularly as they do the most delicious, home baked cakes. recommend- Cup cakes with edible flowers- gorgeous! . The atmosphere is relaxed and you really feel you are away from all the crowds in the South Lanes. The staff are friendly and attentive and dressed in cool vintage style. All in all, charming place.

Me and my friend visited for the first time today. We were very impressed with the standard of the cakes and drinks, and the decor was lovely. However, when a customer had reported a slight accident of the teapot lid breaking, the staff treated her quite abruptly and when she left they were not discreet about expressing their feelings on the situation. It included calling her an idiot and I am putting this in kind words when she said it's a joke. She also called her customer annoying and was upset that she didn't leave a tip. She also was talking to another customer about this previous customer, again not quietly. I took one member of staff outside to discuss this with her and explained how unprofessional it was that she was talking about customers in that way so that other customers heard. I found this a disappointment and it will nt encourage me to return.

After a wonderful day in Brighton we popped in for a cup of tea and coffee....it's a lovely format in a nice location and they served a tasty scone. However, this was marred by the 30 minute wait for a cup of tea, an undrinkable cup of coffee and topped off with a scurrilous remark about my partner after she had expressed her dissatisfaction...must try harder would be my summary.

Our afternoon cream tea (£10 for 2) featured tasty scones baked onsite and a pot of English Breakfast served in china by cheerful, charming and friendly costumed staff. Lovely location overlooking a fountain, quaint decor, music of the 20s, 30s and 40s - we counted ourselves most fortunate to discover them before the weekend/seasonal crush, and left most pleasantly refreshed.

Nice to see a cafe in Dolphin square in the lanes, l hope it does as well as it deserves to. A bijou room with an eclectic mix of china tea cups and pots,Taj serves a good variety of teas and had a good selection of cakes on offer, even at 4.30. I was tempted by lemon sponge, and got a generous slice that l couldn't finish. Open til 6pm, so time for a cuppa before heading home after a hard day shopping!

I stumbled across this place whilst looking for a cafe to have some tea. We walked in and it looks all cute and nice. We asked for chocolate tea (teapot for 2), we were told they were out. We then asked for Jasmine tea (teapot for 2) and then, once again, they were out. Finally, we had to have different tea which was annoying but anyway. We then had a slice of cake to share. Whilst sitting there for a good half an hour, everyone who went to pay was asked if they had change and they were low on change.... When we went to pay, we were told they don't accept cards which is ridiculous?!?! Not only that, but after wanting to have tea for two (already charged extortionately at £4.10), we were charged for two single pots (£2.50 each). All in all, we paid £8.50 for two separate teas and a piece of cake which for me is ridiculous. We presented the lady with a £20 and she looked at us as if we'd done something wrong, wincing and asking us if we had anything smaller?! If I was paying for something that was 2.50, then fair enough but £8.50 and she had the cheek (after over charging us) to ask us for change?!

Such a lovely little cafe hidden away in Brighton. The homemade cakes are DELICIOUS. I loved it so much I asked Taj to host my hen do there and it was just perfect. She made us all cocktails, sandwiches and cakes based on our Mexican theme - tequila flavoured cakes - amazing! I'd definitely recommend this pop-up cafe to anyone looking for a unique vintage-inspired experience - and amazing homemade cakes of course! Can't wait to see what Taj does next either - she's one to watch!

Popped in today to get out of the cold and catch up with friends. A wide range of teas, overpriced at £2.50/£4.10 for a pot for 1 or 2. Although the cakes looked delicious, we didn't eat so I cannot rate. There was no atmosphere, I see what was trying to be achieved with mismatched crockery, quirky old decor and classical radio; however, the place seemed unfinished and failed to hit the mark. Also, no central heating so very cold on a winters day.

What a great find! Not at all stuffy like other tea rooms, totally charming & relaxing. Had the best organic smoked salmon & cream cheese sandwich with lovely fresh salad. Lovely artisan bread & like a meal, as made on the spot a bit more like an open sandwich. Followed with tea & cake. All baked on the premises by the wonderful & super friendly Taj. I plumped for a chocolate Bailey's bomb & wasn't disapointed. Light & fluffy with a hit of Bailey's in the middle! absolutely gorgeous. Choice of organic tea's in propper old china tea pots. This was the highlight of my day & I will be popping in again to get away from the hustle & bussle of the Xmas shopping. 5 stars loved it!

I visited Hope and Ruin solo whilst in Brighton and really liked my time there. Staff were very friendly throughout, nice range of drinks on tap and the food I had was amazing with so much flavour. The place in general has a great vibe to it aswell. One of my favourite places I've been to in Brighton already and if I come back again I'll happily visit once more
