Cafe Bella in Brighton and Hove

Ordered the largest Breakfast on the menu, very disappointed with size. One Slice of bacon, One Sausage, though did have 2 eggs, a hash brown, but No mushrooms which I thought was very poor in value. Ended up going to Morrisons to get a pasty to fill the gap it left!!! This is not a full English by any means. I have seen a picture on here that had 2 slices of bacon, maybe they just decide on the day who they like the look of.

This is the second day I came here hoping to eat. Left waiting like an idiot and nobody came to show me to a table. Yesterday I thought ok they were busy but two days in a row? Get a grip , if you run a business let your clients know they are welcome. Never again. Despicable service

Went in for a breakfast. Had the saver breakfast and was tasty and great value. Came with a hot drink for £9.90 On St James Street short walk from main centre. Worth a walk up the road as such a diverse area for other local businesses.

Decent here. Good breakfast, opened before the other cafes, got my biz. Recommended. Really friendly service to go with it!

Four of us visited for breakfast / brunch after Brighton Pride. We had an all day breakfast, two paninis and ham, egg and chips. The menu would have something for everyone. They were changing the menus to the full lunch time onwards selection when we were there and they had a good selection of roasts, grills, pastas etc Service was attentive, friendly and quick without being overly fussy. Recommend for a quick meal on a budget.

Situated on St. James's Street, just behind the sea front, Bella is a quaint, great value-for-money cafe offering all-day breakfasts, sandwiches and dinners. We visited during the busy Brighton Pride weekend, and the service was friendly, fast and efficient - and the food delicious. I had a fairly simple eggs and toast breakfast - the eggs were cooked perfectly and it was very tasty - and my partner had a ham and cheese panini, which came served with a very cute side salad. Great value for money, friendly staff, and great food - recommended.

What a lovely place. My family and I needed somewhere cheapish to eat and this did the trick. They didn't have egg and chips on the menu but were happy to oblige. My sons are connoisseurs when it comes to milkshakes and they declared theirs to be fantastic. One of my sons ordered spaghetti carbonara; it was enormous! We all got fifteen minutes peace and quiet while he ploughed his way through it. And my cup of tea hit the spot. Lovely staff, clean cafe, what a gem.

Ideal for having the typical English Breakfast! We chose the “Bella”, great and very generous.

My wife and I called in on Saturday 1st June and I was very pleased that we did. The two young lady waitresses were very bubbly and warm and had the balance of time and space whilst waiting for you to order perfectly. I ordered the rump steak, veg & chips meal. The chef took the time to approach our table and personally ask how I liked my steak done. "Well done" I said and well done it was. Apart from at home with my wife I have never had such a beautiful well done steak anywhere and the portion of meal was more than adequate. Would I recommend? Yes Would I call in again? Definitely Thank you to all the staff at Bella.

Amazing food and attentive service. Me and my brother in law came here for breakfast before our 20 mile walk. Our coffees were really good and high quality. We will make sure to come back when we are back in Brighton!

Milley is absolutely lovely! Makes the best coffee and always makes you feel better..... Absolute beam of joy and the local atmosphere is both wholesome and entertaining

What a great place to experience great food. The best Cheeseburger and chips in Brighton by a mile. The folk in the cafe are friendly happy and helpful. I highly recommend a visit. It's right opposite Morrisons. Chow!

Food and drinks came out quickly and are great. Staff helpful. Bit noisy in here for my liking, could do with some soft furnishings to help audibility.

I had a meal with friends here and I chose a chicken roast dinner. We had coffee and cake (plenty to choose from) for desert. It was truly delicious, authentic food for a reasonable price. It feels homely and the staff are very friendly, the service is excellent.

Mixture if Italian food and a traditional British cafe. Very sensibly priced, we found the staff friendly and working their backsides off. A busy place because it is popular. We got two full breakfasts delivered inside 5 minutes when the place was 2/3 full. Impressive. The meals were spot on and under a fiver. The coffee was a few degrees beyond hot, but that is the only negative I can think. A great place for decent service and reliable food. We'll be back.

Comprehensive menu. Spacious seating area and friendly service. Food is good value, and unpretentious. Nice atmosphere and a good place to have a nice lunch.

For a quiet dinner for the solo diner, it was ideal. Great portion of delicious Spaghetti Napoli served by friendly staff, the atmosphere was subdued only because it was absolutely torrential outside. There were perhaps half-a-dozen or so other diners, all of whom had dinners that looked lovely! Non-intrusive, warm, decor reminiscent of all good 90s caffs....! Very clean. Welcoming. Will come again!

Beautiful fish & chips - sift white fish and crunchy batter. I'm surprised that Google couldn't see it when I looked for fish ! Chip places.

AMAZING, DELICIOUS FOOD, FRIENDLY STAFF! Came in for breakfast with my friends on a weekend away. As soon as we walked in we where greeted with friendly smiles, we where seated straight away and our orders taken within minutes. Food options where great, and was pleasantly surprised with the portion sizes. Their sausages are amazing and loved the bacon too! Will definitely be returning! Thank you all to the lovely staff!

Lovely little cafe, wonderful friendly staff

This is cafe style/quality food. Poached eggs were actually steam basted eggs. Tasted OK though. The bread was basic thin white sliced. On toast they use margarine instead of butter. Latte was over milky. Service was efficient but I wouldn't describe it as hospitable. Horses for courses I guess. If you are expecting cafe food then it's OK for the price given it's location, but it's not what I was expecting. I'd rather pay an extra couple of quid for next level up personally.

Not good at all, coffee had no taste to speak of and breakfast was low quality particularly the sausages.

Used to be a favourite place. Had a sandwich which was on thick (toasting bread!) This was a cheese sandwich, so quite stodgey. Pleasant staff, good location.

Top spot for a good breakfast. They also have a licenced bar. Very quick and efficient. Lovely hot food served. Four stars only a reflection as it is basic (not posh) but great in all other ways. Lovely staff and is very popular.

Had a lovely brunch whilst visiting Brighton. Not my first time in this gem of a cafe, lovely staff/owners and great food. I had an omelette which was light fluffy and tasty. Recommended!

Friendly service and great prices

I would have taken pictures of my food but I devoured it too quickly. This is a very clean restaurant with a friendly helpful staff. My hot chocolate was big and creamy. Prices are reasonable and the location is walking distance of my hotel. I am glad I came here.

We visited this restaurant on a wet afternoon because we had a 40% offer voucher. The food is of course average chain restaurant food. We were shocked as to how downmarket Brighton has become with all its graffiti and sadly the restaurant is in an area just off the lanes which is subject to many roadworks which makes even disabled parking difficult. We had pasta shells with cheese sauce and chicken and bacon which was reminiscent of a ready meal. The garlic bread was nice because it was made with flatbread and not thick so easier to eat. The waitress was friendly. The tables were scruffy and needed revarnishing but the overall ambience reminded us of eating in Italy or France. Next time choose a booth as the wooden chairs are hard to sit on for a long time.

terrible terrible terrible!! I can’t explain how mean the staff was to me, so rude for no reason - a man and a blonde women that worked 23rd morning around 8:50 they laughed at me and made fun of me - genuinely made me so upset

We were welcomed by the owner close to closing time and was so pleased to have found this place. It really was the best fish and chips I've ever had! My son liked the experience so much that he asked if we could return to have breakfast, lunch and dinner :) Many thanks for your hospitality, we'll remember you on our next visit!

A rare saturday off so a road trip to Brighton... After walking around the City centre for a while taking in the heady scents of morocco's finest hash and weed that filled the streets, the munchies kicked in I guess and we stopped to brunch here at the Bella bar and restaurant. The Bella breakfast was my weapon of choice with a white coffee, just scraping in at under £10. The food was well presented and served with a smile. As usual the first thing to get eaten was the beans, which on this occasion were lukewarm at the most, a very cheap sausage was also served up that completely lacked texture and taste, the bacon was also lack lustre, while being cooked it was most definitely not crispy. The eggs and toast though were absolutely delicious. Would I dine here again on a visit to Brighton? Highly unlikely.

It was more of a cafe than a restaurant. I had fish and chips with peas and salad (odd having salad didn't need it). Enjoyed the meal. Partner had burger and chips which was like what you'd get at the burger van at the fairground! Mediocre. Waitress nice enough, but a bit rough with serving duties! Toilets were dirty and dryer broken. Wouldn't go back.

Lovely little place with great people. They made us feel very warm and comfortable as we were with a toddler baby. The food was pretty good, but of course their hospitality is what makes the place top notch. We had ordered the English breakfast and a cheese omelette which were both wonderful.

Used to be a Sunday Lunch regular but stopped about a year ago. I forget why. On Sunday last they had a board outside Roast Turkey @ £10.60. I fancied that. Brighton was packed that weekend - it being the Brighton Festival. Strangely this cafe was empty. Anyway I went in and sat down. Two women staff were there - in animated conversation. I was ignored. After about 10 minutes I went to the counter to ask if I could order. I was curtly told to sit down we'll come to you. OK - hmm I was beginning to realise why I'd stopped going here. Only when their private conversation had finished did the younger one come over to take my order. Her attitude was take it or leave it. I was beginning to realise why I was the only customer. The meal arrived and was kind of slammed on to the table. Whilst the 3 real turkey slices were OK, the vegetable portions were miniscule - all drowned in gravy. There was no cranberry sauce - we don't have that. Now I realised why I had stopped coming here - very small portions. It didn't take me long to clear the plate - apart from one worm-holed roast potato which should have been thrown out. Then I went to the counter to pay. Immediately £11.60 was rung up with the attitude that's the price and you're going to pay it. I suggested that she check the price on the board outside - which said £10.60. The woman reluctantly agreed - didn't bother to ring up that price - and gave me £3.40 change. I queried this and she said that was the change. She accused my of claiming that a £1 was missing. She obviously sensed that I wasn't leaving a tip. Eventually she reluctantly gave me a £1 to make up the correct change. I walked out. I will NOT patronise that place. No wonder it was empty of customers. BTW the area between it and Morrisons is full of drunks, drug addicts, and scruffy oiks. They are allowed into the cafe to use the toilets - hence their disgusting state - but they are also allowed to wander at will in and out of the kitchen.

Just what we were looking for. Was really hungry for a cooked vegetarian breakfast while my sister had a meat one. Reasonable prices. Lots of seating. Very friendly sraff. That meal set us up for hours. Proper nice cafe.

It was OK breakfast could be better

I went in a few weeks ago for a coffee and was impressed with service. I also lost my passport in their restaurant and 3 of their staff messaged me on facebook saying that they had it and they kept hold of it for weeks until I came in and collected it. I really appreciated this as they made no profit from keeping it for such a long time and in general was just a good deed. If you want a place for good coffee or outstanding lost property protection go here :)

Her service was so terrible. Put our food down on the table and ran away before we could ask her for anything more like sugar etc. She either had an issue with us specifically or just didn’t want to be there and was taking that out on us. Either way, 0 customer service skills. Went up to ask for a napkin but awkwardly stood there as she continued not to acknowledge my existence. The younger lady was quite helpful and pleasant to talk to and helped us out. Just wish all of our service was by her and not the older blonde. As I walked out I turned back to see if the older blonde was looking at me because I could sense her dislike towards us quite prominently and not to my surprise I was correct in feeling her laser eyes in the back of my head. We’ll come again. But we’ll specifically avoid asking her to do anything for us as it’s clearly an issue for her. Ps. There was a bug crawling around in the sugar but I was too scared to say anything in case she bit my head off.

Sunday late morning we stumbled upon this place and we sat down and ordered breakfasts and coffee. The coffee was hot and strong and the breakfast was excellent. Bacon sausage egg beans toast and all for under £6. Would highly recommend

We have kept using this restaurant over many years. It's a great place for an omelette or a burger. They even do roast dinners and breakfast. Some nice veggie options too

Get the club sandwich. If you do anything in your life, get this sandwich. This sandwich changed my life, fresh ingredients on white bread, now I’m usually a brown bread man, but this might have converted me, I’ve seen the light, the lord has appeared to me, in the shape of a club sandwich.

Great place in Kemptown to eat. Good selection for breakfast, half the price of the hotel! Friendly family run place which I have visited on a few occasions. Breakfast was superbly cooked and served quickly.

Lush breakfast, nice natural light and colour full place. Busy but handle the pressure really well. Fast table service and well mannered staff. My partner is picky as hell and she complains about everything but this place shut her up and made her smile. Thank you for filling out bellys on our last morning in Brighton before we head home to the Isle of Wight. X
