Sussex Yeoman in Brighton and Hove

A nice peaceful pub just 2 minutes from Brighton train station. The pub is spotless, including the toilets. 2 tvs on, and various mainstream programmes are selected on low volume. Our roast diners were generously portioned and obviously cooked to order. Good selection of beers and lagers available. Landlord and staff very friendly and welcoming. Will visit here again whenever in the area.

I went to the sussex yoeman on a wedneaday night then found out they do karoke which was great. The staff was really friendly and quick with our drinks despite how busy it was. Woulds defenfly return.

What has happened? This is now a sports pub serving average Sunday roast. Friendly welcoming staff, but completely different atmosphere and very limited menu. I assume ownership has changed hands.

Great variety of meals on the chalkboard - had a tough time choosing. Weekday night and it was crowded- one table left. One of those classic pubs where the kitchen is up stairs behind the bar. Pretty good - just not a 5.

We have been here because of a recommendation by a man who send us the right way to our B&B on Centurion Road. We asked for roasted lamb and beef. It was really good with a lot of vegetables. We enjoyed our dinner.

As the sign says come hungry as the food is great value for money . Daily special offers too . Service was friendly and efficient . Food was served hot , large portions and very reasonably priced

Only stopped for coffee,but,Sensed a very nice atmosphere,with lots of families enjoying sunday roasts!Will return soon,for a taste of the cuisine!!Certainly seems worth another visit!!Plenty of parking,and easy to find!!😃👍👍👍

Great staff who always make you feel welcome

The home made lamb burger with fries was excellent as was the beefburger, and all the other dishes that came from the kitchen looked good.What lets the place down is the decor and the toilets, all in bad need of decoration a coat of paint would be good, but having said that if the quality of food is more important to you than decor then give it a go

Well I would have liked to have enjoyed the food but 15 minutes of ringing out just after opening on the 29/01/23 and nobody to pick up the phone.

Went for my niece birthday to dinner , the staff were top notch service, I had Theo and server can't praise him enough with two large tables , and 6 kids to deal with everything was out fast , desserts was yummy aswell we have the mix up , highly recommend

A great little place to go grab a drink. Friendly environment, good staff and very clean. Located literally 1 minute walk from the train station which is always handy. It’s a nice and quiet place too (just be prepared to walk up a somewhat steep hill)

I've not been here in over 16 years, since I moved to Germany, but I have amazingly fond memories of it. The staff and food were the best. When lock down finally ends I'm planning on going back. Just looking at the photos I could taste the Sunday roast. Looking forward to seeing everyone again too. X

Quiet, friendly, down to earth place. Easy atmosphere. As of December 2020 and during pandemic times there is no longer a gastro kitchen but rather £3 microwave meals.

A nice pub just steps away from the station, yet it gives you the feeling of being just at your local pub. Lady behind the counter is more busy with her physical appearance and going for a smoke than being friendly and warm welcoming. Pub was recommended by our landlord but work a bit on welcoming non regular customers as well.

The best pub food in Brighton. While it can be a bit pricey here the food is of amazing quality and really generous portion sizes - well worth it and great value! The staff are friendly, the atmosphere is cozy and there is always a great selection of food and drinks on offer.

Visited for work Christmas party. Plenty of staff behind the bar so service was prompt. Despite it being small and cosy we were reserved a large table so had plenty of room. The table service was spot on and staff couldn’t have been more helpful. The food was fantastic, beautifully presented and great flavours. Portions are very generous too. Highly recommend and will definitely be returning.

Christmas lunch but server was curiously distant and humourless, even unfriendly. The Huntsman Pie was awful, not really a pie at all... quality always trumps quantity. All in all a bit of an odd experience.

Ale was great but Sunday lunch was a disappointment, served in a soup bowl and drowned in gravy.

Cramped tables with only inches between them (there is a limit to how many tables you can reasonably squeeze in), no welcome or customer service of any kind. Left before ordering rather than risk feeling uncomfortable and unwelcome for the whole meal. Very disappointing.

Al llegar, pedimos nuestra mesa (reservada por adelantado) en el bar y nos indicó una mesa entre dos mesas más grandes sin suficiente espacio en un lado para pasar (¿quizás 3 pulgadas?) Y lo mismo en el otro porque un cochecito estaba estacionado en el espacio. Nadie nos dio un menú o explicó cómo deberíamos ordenar (¿mesa o barra?). Después de esperar me levanté y pregunté cómo debíamos ordenar y me dieron un menú, pero aún no me dijeron dónde pedir. Estábamos tan cerca de la mesa a la izquierda que nos sentimos como si realmente estuviéramos en su mesa, lo cual era incómodo, demasiado cerca. Me levanté de nuevo (cada vez que tenía que mover el cochecito para que me dejara salir, lo que era un inconveniente para la mesa de la derecha) para preguntar si podíamos ordenar e incluso el miembro del personal preguntó si estábamos con la mesa de la izquierda. - Porque prácticamente no había espacio entre nosotros. Le pregunté si podíamos sentarnos en una mesa más tranquila con un poco más de espacio y me indicó una mesa al otro lado del grupo al lado de nosotros. El grupo me escuchó y pareció sorprendido, así que me disculpé y le expliqué que nos resultaría difícil tener nuestra propia conversación porque estábamos efectivamente todos sentados juntos para recibir caras en blanco. En este punto nos sentimos tan desagradables que nos fuimos sin comer. Me doy cuenta de que este es un pequeño pub, pero he comido aquí dos veces antes en las noches de lunes a viernes y estuvo bien. Todos los restaurantes / pubs intentan entrar en tantas mesas como pueden, pero esta falta de espacio es ridícula si ni siquiera puedes colocar a una persona de tamaño regular entre las mesas de lado. Tome una mesa y la gente tendrá que reservar con más anticipación. Recuerdo que la comida era buena de las otras veces que comí allí, pero no quería arriesgarme a sentirme incómoda durante toda la comida entre el personal y las otras mesas. Reservamos para una comida de Navidad. Todos los servidores salieron diciendo los nombres de las personas para las comidas, así que no hay necesidad de tratar de recordar lo que la gente había pedido.Las porciones para los platos principales eran realmente buenas, muchas verduras, así que no hay que ser cortés al comprar una patata más. El personal preguntó si queríamos pudines de inmediato y nos alegramos de esperar un poco, así que teníamos espacio para ellos.Nada era demasiado problema, galletas en la mesa, galletas extra de queso según lo solicitado. Estaban felices de dejarme pedir un budín que no estaba en el menú de Navidad (ya que no me gustaban los que tenía)Definitivamente volveremos! !

Lovely, light and airy decor, despite its intimate size. Friendly and capable staff providing great service. The food was delicious and the portions were huge, if you have a big appetite you will not leave hungry - my partner and I shared the fish and chips and were stuffed!

Lovely pub grub and staff happy to let us in out of cold even though we arrived a little early. Anywhere that pre salts AND peppers their chips is always going to be a winner in my book!

Friday night had the vegan mushroom risotto which is always good, followed by a great carrot, ginger and apricot tart with ice cream. Non vegan partner agreed both very good. He had a good chicken and leek pie. Great, friendly staff as always.

The food was incredible. They provided generous portions which made it good value for money. The only downside was that it is small and the food took a while to arrive. The menu changes from week to week

The roast was okay. However the best in Brighton? No not close. The veg needs more flavour for example add a little mint to the peas or honey to the carrots. The potatoes really wasn't crispy. I was satisfied and full but I can cook better at home, I pay to eat food that I cannot cook at home.

Great food, next to train station

The alcohol selection is well chosen. You might not have everything but what is there is picked with knowledge and taste. The food is a cut above, large portions with a home cooked feel to them. It can get a little claustrophobic when busy but after a few rums you won't mind so much.

Eaten here several times and it never disappoints! Venison, blue cheese and beet root burger and probably the best side salad you will ever get.

Came here with 3 other friends. We decided to have Sunday lunch late on a Sunday but all of our usual haunts were either out of meat or full. We phoned the Sussex Yeomans who sounded bemused on the phone but booked us in. We arrived and had a table by the door. The pub was laid out more like a cafe and it was a very middle-class mummy pub. We ordered our meals and the staff seemed a little defensive and off which we put to the fact that we were under the age of 30. And didn't have a cute jumper on like the other mums.The food came after some time and with a little sass from the server as well as knocking one of our forks on the floor by accident and not bringing another one while my friend's meal became cold. The Leg of lamb wasn't on the bone and was very chewy, If it had any seasoning it was very hard to taste so ended up being quite bland. The Yorkshire puddings were black on top and rock hard and There was also a lack of gravy.We all decided it really wasn't worth what we paid (£16.50 for the lamb).I think once I'm in my mid 30's and a dad with a trendy hip mum I might feel more welcomed for a pint. Don't think I'd eat in here again though.

Last night had the vegan burger which is always good, followed up with a superb vegan brownie and ice cream. Great, friendly staff.

Always super good for Sunday roasts but soooo good for the a la carte menu...Locally sourced, inventive menu and a stonkingly good Bloody Mary.. Fave place for a midweek supper... Advise booking!

Excellent Sunday roast. Been a few times now and very consistent. Make sure you book well in advance as it's always rammed. Roast was huge and beautifully cooked. Lots of lovely veg. No chance of eating dessert, which was a shame as they looked great too.

Came here with my mum, had some lovely house white wine. I had the cheese board, selection of 6 cheeses , all tasty and best quality. Served with chutneys , fresh bread and apple . Wonderful service and nice music .

We stayed 4 days in Brighton and asked a local where to get a traditional Sunday Roast. She recommended this Pub and also to book in advance. Very good advise!! You should do so too. It is quite a small Pub with only a few tables so if you want to get a table you better book in advance. On the other hand it is also a good sign for the quality if you have to book in advance.

Fantastic pub, excellent food and great service. Good beer selection too but the food is the real draw at the Yeoman, excellent menu and absolutely delicious! Been here a few times now and each visit has been consistently good, definitely one to book as it does get busy.

Sam and Tim are great members of staff. Came lunch for my family and it was very tasty, and excellent value for money.

Thankfully doesn't attract quite the trendy crowd you find nearer the sea (ie few people with shorts, beards and hats), Great food although when I went the beer wasn't great.

Please be warned that the Sussex Yeoman Hungry Horse pub is now charging for you to park in its PUB car park Seems they've entered into a contract with Brittania Parking and even disabled blue badge holders have to pay This is a disgusting move!

Cibo ottimo e abbondante, e non proprio leggero. Ho preso una bitter ale da bere, un venison burger (cacciagione, spesso cervo) molto abbondante ed impegnativo, ma decisamente soddisfacente; come antipasto abbiamo messo in mezzo delle alette di pollo fritte e una sorta di fish pie che sarebbero state degli ottimi main. C'è anche una buona selezione di scotch, non tantissime bottiglie ma non banali.

Visited for an impromptu pub lunch with the team and we were all not disappointed. We all opted to not actually drink so I can't speak to how the drinks are but the food was fantastic. They had a varied and fun menu that had the pub favourties and some unique eats. Plenty of options for veggie too. I had a sweet potato burger that came topped with beetroot and halloumi..YUMM!. The side salad was also so refreshing, cabbage, cucumber, radish, carrots, and so much more. The chips were also fresh and crispy. Only thing I would suggest would be a sauce with the burger as it's served on a ciabatta which is bit of drier bread. I would definitely recommend and would be back for lunch without a doubt.

Visitamos para un improvisado almuerzo de pub con el equipo y no nos decepcionó a todos. Todos optamos por no beber realmente, así que no puedo hablar de cómo son las bebidas, pero la comida fue fantástica. Tenían un menú variado y divertido que tenía las especialidades del pub y algunas comidas únicas. Un montón de opciones para vegetarianos también. Tuve una hamburguesa de patata dulce que vino rematada con remolacha y halloumi. . YUMM! . La ensalada también era muy refrescante, repollo, pepino, rábano, zanahorias y mucho más. Las patatas fritas también eran frescas y crujientes. Lo único que sugeriría sería una salsa con la hamburguesa ya que se sirve en una ciabatta que es un poco de pan más seco. Sin duda lo recomiendo y volvería para el almuerzo sin duda.

Popped in after reading the reviews. Thankfully they managed to find us a table as we did not book (you should). The food and service was fantastic. We had the chicken and beef roasts. Both were amazing and the portions are big, so go there hungry. Would deffo recommend this place, it was packed!

Nos detuvimos aquí después de un duro paseo por South Downs, tuvimos mucha suerte al entrar y las mesas eran gratis, creo que normalmente hay que reservar. El personal es muy amable, buen vino y cerveza, y ambos fuimos a la carne de venado asada, fue fantástico. Hubo excelentes roasties, un excelente yorkie y el venado fue preparado perfectamente, había montones de verduras en el plato y no pude terminar la mía. Si yo iba con mi esposa, probablemente sugeriría compartir porque había mucha comida que no podía terminar. Excelente asado de domingo, dos meses de la estación de Brighton

Outstanding service from ease of booking to a warm welcome on the day. The menu was varied with some unusual dishes and popular choices too. I was tempted by the vegetarian options but decided on pigeon as I like something different. All the food we ordered was delicious and beautifully presented and everything about our experience was positive. We met with family who had travelled a long way so needed a venue near the station; it could not have been a better choice had we travelled miles. The staff picked up it was a birthday celebration and we had a little candle on the desert.

The best meal we have ever had in Brighton and we are regular visitors. Tradition style corner pub with the most amazing food that is incredibly well priced. Staff really friendly and just the right balance of attentiveness. Dog friendly as well.

Whenever we are in Brighton midweek, Yeoman is our place for lunch. That salmon with crushed potatoes and capers was superb. It is my favourite dish to have! The others had fish and chips and they absolutely enjoyed it.

Went here for a birthday dinner with my two teenage sons and husband. Steaks were perfectly cooked with a large serving of chips and side salad which was fabulous!!! Will go back again for that. Highly recommend!!

Visited here as a family of six we were not dissapointed,wonderful service and great meals. The main roasts which come with Roasts Yorkshires and veg are generous and very tasty. Will return next time in Brighton to try their weekly menu.
