The unbelievably rude and verbally/physically abusive landlady, Hatt Eaton, was so unpleasant to our (booked) table of 5 South African and French friends during the South Africa v France World Cup Rugby Quarter-final, that in the end we all left and went to the pub next door. And this, because one of our male French companions dared to celebrate a bit too loudly for her liking when France scored a try. I mean, it was one of the most exciting first halves of any Rugby World Cup seen thus far! Mon Dieu, give us a break. Apparently, cheering is not allowed in this establishment that widely advertised their sports screenings and encouraged bookings "to avoid disappointment". Patrolling her pub like a menopausal prison warden, she pounced on me instead - a local resident of 23 years, sporting my Springbok beanie and definitely NOT celebrating at that stage - and grabbed both my arms while stood towering over me (still seated as we'd already been belligerently admonished, before kick-off, that standing, too, was against "house rules"!). Digging her nails into my flesh, she (literally) spat into my face when I questioned her physical attack with "my house, my rules!", followed by further obscenities aimed at intimidating me to leave her (as she called it) "Bravo Award-winning Best Local". Well, I guess that explains the bitchy "bravado" and delusions of grandeur but sadly also diminishes the authenticity and validity of said awards in general. Respect to the poor young bar staff, though; like little rabbits in headlights, it seems this wasn't a first for them. Bless, please save them, someone! Suffice to say, after this blatant display of xenophobia, there followed a Franco-South African exodus . . . We can recommend the Duke of Wellington next door, though! They welcomed us with open arms, a fantastic atmosphere and lively hospitality. (And apparently, according to some locals, it was a regular occurrence for casualties to limp in here from next door, as strangers, or foreigners for that matter, were regarded with suspicion at The Eddy . . . why, because there is more than meets the eye, as rumours might suggest? One of my companions, a nurse practitioner, did observe that the landlady was perhaps not high on life.) We enjoyed a nail-biting second half of a brilliant game here at the Duke and will be back. The Eddy, however . . . never! Seems a bit old Hatt after all that.

This pub has lots of potential but not whilst the current landlady is in charge. She is rude, unwelcoming and an utter control freak. Not sure why you put sports screens around if you can’t cheer for your team! Told you can cheer but you cheered for too long! Crikey talk about the fun police! She went on to say I don’t recognise you so you may not understand the rules! Rules? What about watching a game of football. Absolutely ridiculous! Only go here if you want to be treated with disrespect and told off like a naughty child! And go here if you don’t want to have fun!

My husband and I had a very similar experience with the Landlord on New Years day. Shouting at us from the moment we walked in the door - "I'm not serving anymore - it's up to me when I stop serving!" It was 8pm! We were absolutely gob smacked - thankfully next door was much more welcoming!

Absolutely horrible lady! After us being in the pub for over 45 minutes standing at the bar chatting with the staff and other customers. She (the owner) started shouting that we could only be there if we were seated. She said we had just walked past her from the street without asking to come in! We had been inside for 45 mins. We were just about to order another round. She was in my face and other customers. Saying it was a seated bar. Said it was her pub and she could make any rule she liked. To say that I think she is absolutely nuts is an understatement. Nice bar staff shame about the owner!!! AVOID

I arrived before they had opened. Once the doors were open I went in and was second to be served by a young girl who looked exactly like Nastassja Kinski did in 1980. She pulled two pints, then a third. The Landlord arrived, bent down, stuck his nose right over the glasses, and rejected two of the pints. In 45 years of drinking in pubs I have never seen a landlord cost himself money in the same way, and he deserves credit for it. Friendly pub, charismatic landlord, very clean place. Immaculately kept Harveys.

I went there last Friday with a group of about 20 people and we were made to feel incredibly welcome. The landlords went out of their way to make us feel welcome. We were celebrating the life of a friend who had passed and they were empathetic and warm. I don't recognise it from the negative reviews opposite though I Imagine tin foil hats were order of the day. I can only highly recommend this pub based on my personal experience and I'd happily visit again as would my friends

Our hen party had the best time at The Edinburgh Pub. The pub owner was so kind and warm - she welcomed us with open arms! She loved our group so much she even took a photo of us outside her pub and asked us to tag her to get the word out. When you arrive, ask for the pub owner - she will give you a free bottle of bubbles and a shot each. You don't even need to book you can just turn up :) I honestly can't tell you how lovely this woman was - I highly reccomend!

We have all lived through a recent pandemic and have had our own ways of dealing with it. However it would appear the bearded landlord of this pub along with various customers have a hostile attitude to some people who have different views on medical treatment.

5 of us sit down peacefully with our drinks at a table inside. We take a group photo of ourselves enjoying our drinks. I'm wearing a baseball cap with 'Make Britain Great Again' and one of my friends has a small 'Don't Jab Our Kids' placard. One of the regulars is glaring at my baseball cap and says "Oh they live amongst us! "Next thing I know the landlord has grabbed all our drinks, spilling beer everywhere, while repeatedly telling us to delete our photo and to "F**k Off"! Stay well away from this unwelcoming pub with its dangerous landlord

The landlord of this pub is an aggressive bully. A member of my family hired this space for an event and the whole party had to leave before the performers had finished because of this man’s behaviour towards a female member of our party. He was rude and abusive. I would advise anyone to go to any number of lovely pubs in the city but please for the sake of having a pleasant experience don’t go to this one.

We came here as a group of friends and sat on the outdoor tables. The owner walked past our group and hovered behind our female friend and leaned down and whispered in her ear that her label was sticking out of her halterneck top. He then proceeded to inappropriately touch her underarm/upper torso and put the label back in, which was extremely inappropriate and without consent. He then said “I’m surprised your friends didn't tell you” and as he realised we were all uncomfortable and offended by his behaviour he went “it was only a joke” as though we were meant to find it funny. A clear example of the subtle but disturbing every day sexual harassment women face. It’s also not acceptable to be that close to a stranger during a global pandemic. As we have another review speaking about an 18 year old girls experience of being slapped on the bum and verbally abused by the same owner, we will definitely NOT return and caution others about visiting this pub.

we are group of 18 year old girls on a holiday to Brighton, we entered the pub around 10 and an older man approached us (who we were not aware was the owner due to the fact he was drinking and standing with his friends) and asked to come for a drink outside, we declined the offer repeatedly and then he suddenly began yelling at us calling us ‘arrogant little c***** ’ and slapped one of us on the bum, we left quickly, very shaken up and confused, and he began yelling down the street and flipping us off. Later on in the night we returned to make a complaint and he shouted at us again from outside. His wife came outside and made us aware they were the owners, and told us the reason he verbally abused us and physically pushed us out the pub was because we made the error of not waiting outside the pub to be seated- this was a poor excuse given the fact that no person should be treated in the way we were- bystanders came to our defence and told the owner this was no way to treat young girls however he continued to verbally abuse us and was clearly intoxicated, one of our friends burst into tears and was told by the owner to ‘grow up’

Much like the previous post, we almost wish to keep it secret but it would be scandalous not to give the chef the recognition he deserves. Wow! Incredible, innovative, inexpensive Spanish food. This chef knows what he's doing. It gives most of the tapas restaurants in Brighton (and some in Spain) a run for their money. Wasn't very hungry so opted for 3 tapas between the two of us. More than enough. The cod (bacalao) was amazing with a beautiful charred skin and an alioli which was to die for. Beef skewers with a clever take on sauce vierge, again, outstanding and a very generous plate of padron peppers. 2 pints, a lovely bottle of Merlot and 3 tapas came in at under £50. Excellent value. Get there before the secret's out!

This is one of the most overpriced roast dinners ever eaten. The service was poor, very squashed tables and terrible food. The Yorkshire had the consistency of sponge pudding there was nothing light and fluffy about these rocks. Toasties looked like they had come out of the deep fat fryer. The meat was tough and veg was either burnt (cauliflower cheese) or cold. Apparently they have changed chef recently?I would go elsewhere.

Having spoken to the staff, this pub is under new management so bear that in mind when reading reviews. I’ve lived in Brighton 14 years and am always seeking out a great Sunday roast. Well I found it today. Quite a small venue, but all the more intimate. The pork done three ways was delicious, roasts crispy, veg fresh, great Yorkshire pud and a tasty jus. My friend had the beef which looked equally as good. I was so impressed I pushed the boat out ant tried the rhubarb crumble. No microwave here. Had to wait as it was properly backed. Crumble had wholenuts in the topping, crunchy and lush. It’s at the slightly higher end in price but well worth it. You need to book and it appears they do two sittings and you get a two hour slot. Was thinning out by 4 and room at the bar to carry on. Definitely be back.

A group of us went on Saturday evening to celebrate a friends birthday, based on the trip advisor reviews we were expecting something quite good. There was no one serving on the bar when we arrived and we had to wait a while to order drinks. When we sat down with the menus we felt rushed into placing our food orders, albeit gentle pressure. It was about 7:30 and a sign said the kitchen shut at 9:30. We had reserved a table so they knew we were coming. Football was on but the pub wasn't busy and when the football finished about 8pm most of the other customers left. The food was disappointing on the whole, there isn't a huge choice but there were enough options, we ordered a range of items. Unfortunately most of the dishes were not prepared well, the bread was dry, the burgers & halloumi were over cooked. The salad was over dressed and the chips were greasy and soggy. One or two of our group were happy with their meal but most of us were quite dissatisfied. I don't think any of us will be making a return visit.

The burger was also rock hard. The chips were disgusting. Other members of our party also did not enjoy their meal. I could not be bothered to complain just left most of the meal. I felt if we complained we would not get the proper customer service in dealing with a complaint. Would not recommend the food at all. Probably the worst burger I have ever had.

I came to the Edinburgh with friends on Sunday and had a duo roast of venison and beef - it was massive, but I was starving and for that amount of perfectly cooked meat it represented good value.Being Sunday, the football was on, but the volume and the crowd were unobtrusive - the atmosphere was very friendly without being boisterous. The food has improved immeasurably since the new management took over, with an inventive menu which is still offered in full even on Sundays where most local pubs only do roasts (which excludes my vegetarian girlfriend). Again... perfectly done with generous helpings.I would certainly recommend this pub to my family friends, hell yea! (YUM!)

Went here for a working lunch with colleagues and was blown away. I left feeling beyond bloated, but that's because the good was so good that I couldn't stop! We waited nearly an hour to receive our food but I overlooked it in the end. I returned with my partner due to this good experience and ordered the same dish however, it was an utter failure. Pictures uploaded! The no fish, fish and chips had no fish indeed but didn't have any halloumi either. Simply fried breadcrumbs. Great. The mushy peas were rancid re-heated paste. Needless to say I didn't touch them. To top it off, there was a hair hidden beneath the breadcrumbs. Thanks chef, great hygiene control. I will never return.

This lovely pub is tucked away on a side street, away from the crowds but very close to the station. It was a great find! Amazing roast dinner (salt beef), chatty staff, good music and a pleasant atmosphere. The portions were very generous and the food wasn't expensive. Would highly recommend this one.

Lovely atmosphere and great staff, close to the station but off the beaten track. The roast is delicious as are the nachos and fajitas. Portions are huge and it is great value for money, we will definitely be back!

After reading reviews on trip advisor and looking where the Gourmet Card could be used in Brighton-my wife and myself decided to try this pub.The pub was a 'local' with good ale(expensive for bitter at £3.90/pint) and good food-but most of the food was either very spicy or different types of burger! We had the 'Heart attack' burgers which were excellent-and good value at £9 for two-with gourmet society card.We do not normally eat burgers and they were not really what we wanted but we enjoyed eating them.

Came to watch a football match Sunday lunchtime. Nice pub and atmosphere. Beer seems a bit pricey- £4.20 for a Guinness. Had a roast which was just ok- chicken was just a breast with some bacon stuck on top, would usually expect a half roast chicken, and the veg and potatoes weren't great. Their wi-fi is absolutely shocking- you need to log in and then it logs you out two minutes later..

My husband and I have been shopping around for a new local for Sunday lunch since ours was put out of a business by the brewery that owns the property. I don't think the Eddy is going to be it. The roast selection did not include chicken, which is a favourite of mine. I got the lamb, which I often like and it was alright, but a bit fatty and the potatoes were undercooked. It came with some kind of sauerkraut, which tasted nice enough but didn't really go with a roast. There was a very large amount of some kind of orange mash, probably squash or similar. It was alright, but nothing to write home about. The ambience nice enough, but not quite a good enough roast to bring me back for Sunday lunch. Suitable for a pint though as the bar tender was very friendly and the drinks selection was reasonable.

I've been here several times in the past for both large staff Christmas dinners and dining with friends and had a great time. I was looking for somewhere for our staff Christmas dinner for 7 people and thought of The Eddy but was concerned about some of the recent reviews. I contacted the pub to discuss this as it really didn't seem in keeping with my previous experiences and they assured me that we would have a great time and that they had a different chef since the reviews. On arrival, we were greeted by smiling staff, our table was laid out beautifully with decorations, a mince pie & crackers and we were not only well looked after but the food was amazing!! The portions were massive, the food was really tasty and the price very reasonable - £22 for a 3 course meal. We didn't all eat the same thing but all of us agreed that the food was great and the pub was clean and comfortable.Off the beaten track so easily missed but worth a visit! A great time had by all :-)

We had heard about the pub from friends and went for a drink. Cosy simple pub with friendly & welcoming staff and customers, nice layout. We had a lovely time, decided to have some food later. Good main menu and delicious specials - great value for money! My partner had a Scotch egg later - even I tried. So tasty!... I am not even a big meat fan... Good atmosphere, seems to be more locals pub but that makes it welcoming. We had a great time, reasonable prices, out of the way from tourist areas and doesn't try to be something else. Going back for Sunday Roasts!

Last Sunday we wondered to Brighton and had a lovely walk around the not so touristy areas. We spotted this pub near the station and thought we would have lunch over there. We were so impressed from the word go. The staff are friendly and my other half thought the ales were excellent. We both decided to have the Beef, good choice for both of us. Portion sizes are great and really good value for money. Will definitely be back !

Popped for lunch on bank holiday Monday and was really impressed. The best pubs in Brighton are off the main drag from the station to the seafront - this is definitely worth a visit.

The Eddy is a fantastic local pub run by really friendly people. They deliver a delicious menu which is always fresh and great quality. You can watch the sport, get involved in a quiz and the weekends are busy with a really nice atmosphere and live music, then recovery has to start with the brilliant and generous Sunday lunches :-) This pub just keeps getting better, we consider ourselves very lucky it's our local!

Like all small pubs in Brighton it does look much from the outside and the inside is typical of that type of pub. The staff are young and knowledgeable as to what drinks they hold and are keen to help with your choice without being pushy. The menu is short which explains why the quality is great, the meal is a pleasure to eat

A very welcoming pub with a great atmosphere. The 'locals' told me it has new management; well they know how to run a brilliant all rounder! The food is excellent and the bar is a cut above the norm with it's varied choice of spirits and well kept beers.

The Sunday roast are worth every penny in quantity and taste. The roast beef is incredible and the veg to die for and I am not a big veg eater. The bar has new management and they are very friendly and customer focused. This pub is well worth a visit for a drink or food. They do also have a normal menu and Xmas menu.

I have been to the Eddy a lot in the last four or five months. So why does it rate five stars for me ? Well after a really good welcome from the staff you know it's a nice pub right away. The present owners have been in there about six months and have managed to create a really relaxing atmosphere. The place is quite eclectic in it's furnishing, which I like, but the icing on the Eddy cake is the food. I have had several different things, all good, and love the club sandwich however from what I've seen all the dishes look great and are obviously turned out by someone very skilled in the kitchen. Word of mouth though is about the fantastic Sunday roast which by all accounts is excellent, I can't vouch for that personally but have been told many times it's very good. I intend to rectify that and give it a go soon. There is good range of beers, lager, wine etc so no problem there and if you like sport you can watch without this being a "sport pub/bar". It doesn't take over. Nice atmosphere, great staff, good food what more can you ask for ?

Lovely cosy inviting atmosphere. Went in for a mocktail with my partner and they had a full menu of just mocktails, which is rare for a venue. They were reasonably priced and I got the dark and stormy mocktail. I find some mocktails can just be overpriced juice but this one was great. The ginger gave it the kick of an alcoholic cocktail - it was complex and a lovely slow sipper. I was super impressed and I recommend this place now to my alcohol free friend. They also had a no alcohol beer on tap!

Absolutely shocking avoid avoid avoid. We chose a salad bowl with chicken. A bit of iceberg lettuce tomato and pepper they ran out of chicken so we had turkey no dressing the most boring salad bowl I have ever had in my life at the grand cost of nearly £11. They need to go to spoons for some training.

Take your dogs, shut the baby gates and relax, as they play with other doggie customers and the owners dog. let them sit on the settees, and relax too
